HDMI 2.0 firmware update?

With the release of their 2013 4k TV models, Toshiba promised an HDMI 2.0 update for free via firmware by the end of 2013. Seeing as the end is near, is this promise still a reality?
"Although these units are shipping with HDMI 1.4 level capability, Toshiba will also provide a free firmware upgrade to HDMI 2.0 level capability this December 2013 to support 4K 60fps content. 'Toshiba is leading the industry in 4K Ultra HD technology,' said Ramirez. 'While many brands are just getting started in Ultra HD, our CEVO 4K engine is second-generation technology. Now we are adding HDMI 2.0 level capability so users can enjoy our amazing picture quality with higher speed 60fps 4K content.'"

Ahh, I see the file is in fact there, just dated wrong.  Click on the firmware file update under drivers, even though it is dated September 2013.  The actual file is the newest update.
I applied it and it seems to have taken without any problems.  But unfortunately, Toshiba hasn't provided any test 4K content like other vendors or any means of getting 4K images or video onto the TV other than via a laptop with HDMI port that can output 4K.  If they could add a way to display 4K images via USB/SD/DLNA, that would be great!  As well as support for Youtube 4K streaming (the only place I've found 4K content that is ready to go).
Any word, Toshiba, on additional updates?  Or are you officially done with these TV's?

  • Why does my retina MBPro and the projector go blank, when connecting with HDMI? This worked fine until the latest OS and firmware update.

Connecting through HDMI worked fine, until the recent firmware update and the 10.7.5 OS update. Now, both retina display and projector dosplay go blank, with the screen coming back when unplugged from the projector.

    Clone your system.
    Never apply updates w/o one.
And yes there is a page with all the Apple Downloads to do manually and then you can keep it on hand. Same for the OS X Lion or ML installer - save them before running. Still on 10.6.8 so you have OS X 10.6 DVD.
Combo updates do not do any harm. There could be issues to the drive directory beforehand.
Mac Pro has been shipping with Lion since summer 2011, though you can even now still reinstall iwth 10.6.4+

  • Add firmware update to increase resolution to 4K

I would like to see a new firmware update that would increase my WDTV Live HUB's HDMI resolution to 4K and update codecs by adding new H.265 codec for HD and 4K/UHD resolutions.

Won't happen. HEVC support can not be added by way of a firmware upgrade.

  • Activation and Firmware update on ATV 3G failing

    Hi all,
I just purchased an ATV 3G and it is running 5.1. I actually just swapped the unit out where I had a 2G. (Moving the 2G to a vacation home)
So, I keep trying to update the FW and it kees failing. I've tried about 5 times. In each case:
The firmware downloads, It then goes to Step 1 preparing update. The progress bar completes on that Step and then I get a message that the Firmware update was not successful and it tells me how I can restart the unit.
When I go into Settings-General-About it shows the Activation as Failed (Skipped). I am hoping that this is related to the Firmware problem.
After these problems, I put my ATV 2G back and I was able to get it to update its firmware. (From 5.1.1)
After the 2G updated, I then put the 3G back and it failed again. (I used the same power, HDMI and ethernet cable for both, so it isn't a cabling problem)
I have no idea on how to troubleshoot these issues.
Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
If your problem persists get yourself a micro USB cable (sold separately), you can restore your Apple TV from iTunes:
Remove ALL cables from Apple TV. (if you don't you will not see Apple TV in the iTunes Source list)
Connect the micro USB cable to the Apple TV and to your computer.
Reconnect the power cable (only for Apple TV 3)
    Open iTunes.
Select your Apple TV in the Devices list, and then click Restore.

  • Lip Sync Problem AFTER LG Firmware Update on some HD Channels

I have an LG HDTV, model number 47LH90, and I'm experiencing lip sync issues even after they gave me a firmware update to solve the problem.
I've noticed the problem appears to be most prevalent on the History HD channel.  Most other channels seem fine now following the firmware update from LG.  Any reason why this is  happening?  I have a couple thoughts to add for Verizon personnel:
    1) The Motorola STB/DVR I have from Verizon let's me choose my output as 720p, 1080i, etc.  It would be nice if it would also allow a pass-through option to just be whatever input the feed is.  For example, sometimes I wonder if this issue is because the DVR is trying to take 1080i input to the STB and convert it to 720p output to the TV, which somehow changes data lengths and results in some lip sync issue.
    2) I have a PlayStation3 that I bought to use mainly as a Blu-Ray player.  The PlayStation Audio/Video to my TV using the HDMI cable works great, with no lip sync on Blu Rays, Hulu, games, etc.  I know this lip sync is sometimes more prevalent on LG TV's, but it would seem to me that if PlayStation's can produce lip sync-free content, surely FIOS can too.  Perhaps they could upgrade their hardware and use the latest standards.
    3) I'm using the same make/quality/length HDMI cables on my PlayStation3 and STB, HDMI 1.3a.
I would love to see some updates that address this issue as soon as possible.

We frequently have a similar/same problem but do not have a HDTV or programming. We have a  QIP6416-2 hooked up to a 12 year old Sony large screen TV (we won't buy a HDTV until Verizon gets a better, higher capacity DVR or until out contract is up and we can move on).  Often when we are watching a taped show (we tape almost everything) the sound and picture will get out of sync.  Think bad Japanese movie!  It makes me crazy as I read lips but my husband, although bothered, doesn't want to kill the DVR after a few minutes. We have found, by trial and error, that if we exit the show and then resume play the sound and picture return to normal. It also happens when we rewind on a currently playing show.  It happens almost every time I rewind a long ways (I do this when I watch 2 shows at once).  It is harder to get back in sync when this happens but it sometimes works if I watch and jump forward to be close to live and then jump between shows and only have to rewind a short ways.  I used to routinely watch 2 shows at once but now the aggravation factor makes me either tape everything or just not watch some shows I like.  I posted to let you know that it may not be the LG update and may be the DVR.  Try out my tricks when it happens, and if they work, I would blame the DVR.
Thanks for the suggestion.  My problem actually seems to go away when the show is recorded versus live, at least sometimes, but not always.  Although, I've found that stopping playback, then resuming, or similar behavior can help the problem as well.  I just want my TV to work without having to throw salt over my shoulder.

  • XG270HU firmware update

I just bought this monitor on the 27th from Acer Outlet as a refurb for $399.99, today Acer released a firmware update for the OD issue with FreeSync. Update 2nd July 2015 - Acer have confirmed a firmware update has now been made available to their service teams to address any issues people are facing with the activation of overdrive with FreeSync systems. The following statement was provided to us: "Customer service and experience are priorities for Acer. Customers owning an Acer XG270HU Monitor may potentially experience slower response times when connected  over DisplayPort to FreeSync compatible graphic cards of the PC. When connecting to PCs with other graphic cards or connection options there is no impact on the performance and response time. Customers which believe they are experiencing a potentially slower response time than normal, may contact the nearest Acer Service Center for a firmware update." I am wondering what I can do here, as I am using FreeSync and got the monitor specifically for that, but I have no idea if the monitor has already been updated as I just recieved it today, and I don't see any way to check the firmware myself, and I really don't want to have to send it off when I just got it today, but as I play a lot of shooters, that slow response time can be crucial. It has a 90 day manufacturer warranty, and I suppose I can take it to an Acer service center and have them do it? But I don't see any concrete listings on the Acer site to find such a center, and how much it would cost, if anything since under warranty. I am in Springfield, MO. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey, just for reference in the visual difference I'm seeing, here's too pictures I tried to awkwardly snap with my phone. The left is with HDMI at 60Hz, the right is DP at 60Hz and freesync enabled (although disabling freesync doesn't seem to change the ghosting). The trail the alien leaves is significantly worse with DP. I don't even preceive the ghosting that appears in the picture that I took when using HDMI, it looks fine in real-time. But the DP ghosting is very noticable in real-time, although when I'm running at 144Hz as opposed to 60Hz (as I did in this case for a more apples-to-apples comparison to HDMI), the ghosting effect is still there but not nearly as pronounced.

  • Is there a way to reverse a firmware update?

    Hi,
    I did the firmware update
MacBook Pro EFI Update 2.1 This update includes fixes that resolve an issue with Turbo Mode in Boot Camp, and improve performance and stability for graphics and Thunderbolt.
It had broken my thunderbolt HDMI output, Apple say they can do nothing until a fix eventually come out and another firmware update.
Is there any way i can reset my firmware to factory settings or install a older version to un-do the problems this update has caused?
    thanks

strange thing just happened, My HDMI thunderbolt cable dose not work with my samsung since the firmware update but it still works on other macs so it could not be the cable...
WELL just borrowed a friends cable and it now works perfectly, very strange and i can not explain it but try a new mini display to HDMI cable and it might just work for you too. :-)

  • Anybody heard anything about the 5D iii firmware update in April?

Has anybody heard any news about when the firmware update for the 5D3 with uncompressed HDMI out will be released? As far as I know, it was originally scheduled for release today (April 1st), but haven't heard any updates since October.
    Thanks.

The flash problem fix was announced much later and was set for late April.  The original April firmware release didn't give a date.

You're probably right that Canon will screw those of us waiting for the earlier announced enhancements and not release anything until the flash issue is resolved.  The problem with that is, if they insist on waiting for the flash fix before releasing the feature enhancement firmware, they could easily miss an April release if the problem ends up requiring more time to implement a solution...

  • PROMISE Pegasus firmware update ?

On the web-page [[http://www2.promise.com/support/download_view.aspx?rsn=1150&m=89&region=en-globa l]] there is a document [[Pegasus R4_R6_First Release Compatibility List v1.3]] which shows the only supported firmware for the disk [HDS723020BLA642] as being [MN0NB5C0]; however my R6 disks have firmware [MN6OA5C0].
QUESTION: given that the document recommends this firmware for good operations; how can I update the firmware of my R6 disks ?
    Notes:
    - I bought the PROMISE R6 together with the MacMini from the Apple-store
    - The Promise R6 is working very well, thank you
    - it is working so well, I will buy a second one with my new MacPro (whenever the MacPro comes out, don't ask me)
    - These are the disks that came with it (I have not changed the disks)
    - I have opened call Case No 20111205022957S with PROMISE support, and they replied:
"We do not have any update for the Pegasus systems. The disks that come with the pegasus are the only disks that are supported."

over the weekend I updated the Promise Utility to v3.16.0.77 (from 3.16.053) - the update is launched from the menu (auto-download and install). According to the ReadMe the new update has some minor fixes and a new service-report. The new report is saved as a HTML file hith lots of details about my storage; very interesting and useful to keep (compare with) for any future troubleshooting.
After the Promise Utility is updated, launching the self-update will offer a new firmware version (v 5.02.0000.69) for the promise TB array. Before installing the updated I did a full backup to tape- just in case; but the update went without a problem. I had an uneasy feeling, because my R6 holds close to 8TB of important data. The ReadMe mentions that the new firmware supports startup and shutdown detection - if the host is powered on or off. The new firmware also supports sleep of the host; including spindown of the disks. Now this is a very cool update ! (if only I could set the sleep time in the Promise Utility).
PS: I bought my 6xTB Pegasus R6 in August 2011; when it arrived 4 weeks later (11/2011) I installed the TB firmware update on my new MacMini. It has been rock solid from the beginning; among other things I have my iTunes library on the R6; my display is attached to the Mini using HDMI (with DVI converter cable). I can highly recommend it.

  • EFI Firmware Update 1.7

    I have 2.8 Ghz,16 gig Ram, Late 2014 Mini
My screen, on wake up from sleep, goes snow to black, snow to black, flash of color and then I get my normal screen. I have HDMI to HDMI. My Samsung monitor has a DVI and the HDMI connections, thunderbolts (2) on the Mini.
I read in support that a person there had better luck with Thunderbolt to DVI connection to the monitor.
I have the EFI Firmware update on my desktop but wonder first if that is not a repair or fix already accomplished for this computer. How do I discover the firmware I am using as the late 2012 required this firmware update. Does my machine require it to continue using HDMI or do I go to the thunderbolt DVI set up?

The beginning of this article says how to determine the currently version of the EFI and SMC too
EFI and SMC firmware updates for Intel-based Macs - Apple Support
However, EFI 1.7 is for the late 2012 Mac Mini
    https://support.apple.com/kb/DL1616?viewlocale=en_AU&locale=en_AU
I know of no firmware updates for the late 2014 Mac Min
Yes, Thunderbolt (Mini displayport) to DVI is better than HDMI

  • Thunderbolt firmware update failed!

    My config: Early 2011 MB Pro 13" 2.7 GHz i7 / OSX 10.7.1 Build 11B26
Last week I installed "Thunderbold Firmware Update version 1.0" on my brand new MB Pro.
It was connected to power, the update started, rebooted and showed the progress dialog while installing. So far so good. Almost at 100%, the progressbar stoped moving for at least an hour!!
At that point i discovered that a mobile HD was still connected to my MB (stupid off course during FW updates) and I disconnected it in the hope it would solve the pause. I waited again for at least half an hour and finally decided (was forced, against all advise) to reboot my MB.
The next boot, was a scary one :-). While everything seemed to work at first glace, I discoverd that my external displays did not work anymore. When using my minidisplay->VGA converter, no displays are detected. When using my minidisplay->HDMI displays are detected but giving "no signal". I've tried at three diverent screens that are all working on my (older) mac mini using the same adapters + cables.
Anybody experienced the same problem so far? I called with Apple Care but they "only" could advise me the SMC and PRAM/NVRAM resets. None of them helped. I also tried to install the thunderbolt fw-update by hand but a "Your computer's thunderbold port does not need this update" message is shown. The software updater shows that the system is fully up to date.
When looking at my system report the following is shown for my thunderbolt:
    ====
    MacBook Pro:
      Vendor Name:    Apple, Inc.
      Device Name:    MacBook Pro
      UID:    0x0001000A1B402220
      Firmware Version:    22.1
      Port:
      Status:    No devices connected
      Link Status:    7
      Port Micro Firmware Version:    FFFF.FF.FF
    ====
The FFFF.FF.FF worries me a bit. Anyone knows what is shown after a successful update? Any known tricks maybe to force the FW-update again or skip back to the previous version?
I desperately need my external big screen again for software-dev.
    Thanks in advance.
    Kind regards, David (Netherlands)

I did it on my 2011 MBPro on Aug. 24.
It normally causes no problems to run a FW update if you check first, that there are NO external devices connected during FW update and the charger is connected and powered.
If it fails under this circumstances, it's mostly a hardware fault causing that. For that do it while your system is still under warranty.
Anyway, you can also try to roll back a failed firmware update.
    See: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2213
Sooner or later you must have it as a precondition for a upgrade or to get different hardware to work.
Note also that the next Thunderbolt FW update is rolled out now.

  • Macbook4,1 10.6.8 and firmware update - what went wrong?

Macbook 4,1 2008 2.4Ghz (not unibody). I recently reformatted my hard drive and reinstalled 10.6 from the Retail DVD and all seemed to go well. The MB was working fine up to that point. I then set up the MB (network, date and time, etc.) and repaired permissions.
I then checked Software Update and downloaded and installed the recommended updates to 10.6.8.
Again, all seemed to go fine. System booted and I repaired Permissions again. I went to the Apple web site, a couple of other web sites, and Software Update found another update to install: Firmware. Though I don't remember what version.
I clicked OK and it installed.
Upon reboot, it seemed to install okay.
But then I left the Macbook and it went into Sleep.
I didn't come back to it again until the next day.
When I pressed a key to wake it, I got what I now know is the screen that appears after you wake it from SAFE SLEEP. As per this Apple KB article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1757.
And this is where the problems started.
After the MB woke to the Safe Sleep screen, which shows the desktop a little "out of focus", the progress bars started filling in from left to right, BUT before they completed, the screen went BLACK.
And it has had a problem with black screen ever since. I can boot the MB from internal or external HD or from DVD, and it seems to boot fine. Boot chime, Apple logo, spinning wheel, then at the point where it pauses, blue screen, then goes to desktop, instead the screen goes black.
It finishes booting, but seems to go into Sleep.
I can wake it by pressing a key, but the screen either comes on and goes black again after 10 seconds, or I get the Safe Sleep wake screen, and then it goes black after 10 seconds.
And at boot or when waking the MB, the front LED flashes 5 times. There are no error beeps.
I've tried changing RAM, but problems remain.
So what's all this? Any ideas?
The display doesn't seem dead, as it works to boot and wake. The MB works fine with external monitor.
It's weird, but I can't think of anything apart from the Firmware update. The problems started right after installing it.
Unfortunately, this model of Macbook doesn't have a Firmware Restoration image to download and burn to CD. It is the ONLY Mac at this point that doesn't have this!
I called Apple support and even bought the 49 Euro Pay Per Incident service, which proved to be the same as throwing 49 Euro out the window. The only "technical" support they provided was to Reset the SMC, which you can find out about FOR FREE at the Apple website. And which I'd done anyway. I'd also reinstalled the MacOS. Don't want to beef too much, but sheesh, you've already got a Macbook that might need costly repairs, and they make you pay 49 Euro BEFORE they even ask you about the problem and what you've done to try to solve it. I'm tempted to say "ripoff". I mean, if all they can offer you is the advice to reset the SMC - which Apple offers for free at their website - then that's pretty poor service for 49 Euro, to say the least.
Apart from the wasted 49 Euro, I'm pretty peeved about the Firmware update (or so it seems) wrecking a perfectly working 2008 Macbook. I don't know how to convince Apple of this, but I'm certainly going to try.

    Thanks for the reply.
Re. the Displays setting, the Macbook display isn't recognized and mirroring isn't an available option.
I've scoured the net and the idea of replacing the PRAM battery may be something to try. I read a post by a guy with a Macbook logic board screwed up by a Firmware update, which he solved by replacing the PRAM battery, as when you disconnect it you reset the logic board.
    Which capacitor?
No luck so far with talking to Apple. I will try to get hold of someone a little more tech savvy and/or in a position of authority, as it seems that the Firmware is the culprit. Obviously a million other things could go wrong with a Macbook, but given the timing here it looks like the Firmware. Firmware updates can and occasionally do screw up a computer, as most manufacturers will warn you before you apply the update: PC makers, printer makers, etc. And they probably warn you that it's all your responsibility if anything goes wrong. But re. the Apple Firmware update:
    1) it came thru Software Update
    2) there was no warning
    3) to make things worse, there's no Firmware Restoration image that I can burn to a CD to reflash the logic board: this is the only Apple computer that doesn't have a Firmware Restoration option
I'll try to get thru to a manager and convince him/her that the firmware may have been the cause.
Do you think an authorized Apple tech might have access to some way to do a firmware restoration? Something not avaiable to mere mortals? Because if not, the only solution looks like a new logic board.

  • New symptoms since latest firmware update

OK I have a 1tb sky hd box which hasn't had any really annoying issues up until the new firmware update (the one with the new Kids tile which is annoying in its own right).  Anyway, I have been watching the cricket on SS2 and every so often when they break for a short advert between overs I've lost sound when it tries to revert to DD5.1 after switching from 2.0 on the adverts.  I have to change channel and back again to get the sound back.    Also, for the first time, my planner was showing empty today so I had to do a planner rebuild which solved the issue.  Still, at least they  seem to have solved the sound dropout issue.  So just heads up for anyone else with a 1tb box who experiences the same issues.

    (Quoting Karl Petersen here:)
There's a bug in iMovie 6 that makes it impossible to re-edit (Update) photo clips previously imported with the Ken Burns checkbox ON. The source photo, normally stored in the Media folder of the project, is (inappropriately) discarded when you empty the iMovie trash. The clips Update as black clips and the preview is usually black too, if I recall.
The workaround is to 1) drag the photo from the iMovie trash to the iMovie Clips pane; or 2) never empty the iMovie trash.
