HDMI adapter to mirror my I-phone on my TV

I have an I-phone 4s and I have purchased an HDMI adapter to mirror my I-phone on my TV but I get a message saying this is not supported on this device. I have recently updated my phone to the iOS 7.1 and I’m not sure if this is causing the issue. I have rebooted my phone by holding the buttons down until the apple logo comes on my screen but this has not made any difference. I used to get the same thing on my alarm but that never bothered me. This is a different story though. Any ideas or have I just been sold a dud?

I know all the answers you have given are correct. I am just saying that maybe Apple should consider something like this seeing as similar has already been done by competitors e.g Nokia on their N95 phone which is now 3-4 years old. It even has a smaller screen than my iphone!!

The iPhone 4 does not support mirroring.
However, you can still output video from supported Apps using the adapter. Apps such as the videos App, and the Phots App in slideshow mode will output video through the adapter.

  • My macbook pro no longer connects to my TV with the mini dvi to hdmi adapter. A while ago the computer fell down and hit the cable. How can I tell if the computer is working ok. Doesn't show mirroring any more.

My macbook pro no longer connects to my TV with the mini dvi to hdmi adapter. A while ago the computer fell down and hit the cable. How can I tell if the computer is working ok. Doesn't show mirroring any more. Was working while watching a movie but when I pulled it out from the computer and put it back in the system would no longer mirrorr the screen on the TV.

The best option is an appointment at an Apple store genius bar.  The evaluation will be for FREE!

Yeah, I'm having the same exact problem - It seems that the thunderbolt minidisplay port is only able to output the analog VGA signal, not the digital signal to support DVI and HDMI. This is a bug that came up after installing 10.7.1. I bought my macbook air with 10.7 on it, upgraded it to 10.7.1 as soon as I got it, so I have never been able to use hdmi or dvi with my macbook air. This is an extremely frustrating problem for me, I used HDMI on a daily basis with my PC. I have spent many hours at the genius bar running diagnostic tests so Apple can get as much information as possible to create a fix for this problem. I have been emailing tech support for 3 or so weeks now, they keep saying that they are working on a fix and it should be out soon, but 10.7.2 has come and gone and I still have no HDMI functionality with my MacBook Air!

  • Why does the hdmi adapter(purchased from apple for $40) no longer mirror my iPad 2?

Why does the hdmi adapter(purchased form Apple for $40) no longer mirror my ipad 2?  If ios6 prevents this, will they return my money?

Does this involve iPhoto in any way? I believe you need to post in a different forum - and since these are strictly uuser to user forums answers about what Apple does or will do are not likely nor reliaible - you need to contact Apple for Apple answers

  • Lightning HDMI Adapter not working with iOS 6.1.2

I have an iPhone 5 which was updated from 6.0.2 to 6.1.2 recently and the Lightning HDMI adapter stopped working altogether for video mirroring; was wondering if anyone has the same situation/any solution for this?
I also have an iPad retina generation which is at 6.1.2, and the Lightning HDMI adapter is not working for it as well.
I've tried replacing HDMI cables, rebooting the iPhone with the cable plugged in, and plugging out/in several times with the charger in/out. The adapter works, cause when I plug it in; I see the top bar flash for a bit... but no dice on the video mirroring to my TV.

I also have this problem and am very unhappy with the way Apple is handling it. Called today to enquire on when the fix will be available and was told it is a software issue that could be fixed if we paid $35.00 to talked through process on the phone. Highly disappointed with Apple, why should it cost me money for them to fix there own issue. Since they are aware of the issue the least they can do it posted the information for the fix online @ no charge.
If I wanted crap service I could have gotten a phone from anyone. Reconsidering purchasing a 5 on next upgrade.

  • Greetings, Question about Lightening to VGA/HDMi Adapter

Greetings. For those with experience with the Lightening to VGA or HDMI adapter, will whatevers being mirrored from the Iphone 5, still be visible on the Plasma TV if I put the phone on standby? I've an Iphone 5c in this case. Some guy at the apple store said I can only turn the brightness down to minimum. Unacceptable.

standby turn off the phone like closing the lid of a laptop it's used to when one is not using the phone it's only doing a minimum of actions such as being able to recieve calls and the likes
so yes it stops displaying the ios screen mirrored on the tv when you suspend the phone

  • Am i the only one with a HDMI adapter no longer working ?

Hi. I own an Iphone 4 running ios 5.1.1. I used to be able to watch a video using my HDMI adapter when i was running ios 5.0.
But i recently wanted to use it and i saw it would not work at all !!! I was running ios 5.0.1. Then i thought i should update my iphone to make it work again, but in vain, my adapter seems to work no more... I of course tried to restore my iphone and checked my hdmi cable. Am i the only one or am i the choosen one like neo ? Thank you !

    first of all
apple don't read or write here so they will never "say anythign" here or read your posts
this is a user helping user forum only
you can get their ear using the feedback
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/
don't own the hdmi adapter but got the component and composite ones and they work fine with my iphone4 with latests os
what I would do if I was me
first step of troubleshooting would be to reboot the phone
    http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/assistant/phone/#section_1
second step then I would try another ios device that is supported with the device (of cause only iphone4s and ipad2 and up support mirror so for testing I use youtube as I know that support the tv out feature)
trying out the other ios device would rule out that the cable is damaged and you just happend to notice around the time you updated os
third step I would try other devices that use the pin30 cable to see if the connector in the iphone was damaged

  • Cannot Connect Imac 24" via mini dvi to HDMi adapter cable to Sony Bravia 3

    Hello Everyone,
I'm having the worst time in trying to connect the following:
    1. Imac 24" 3.06 dual with dvi connection
    2. Mini dvi to HDMI adapter (this mac with this connection was produced only for a short while!).
    3. 10' (foor) HDMI wire
    3. Sony Bravia 32" model KDL32L-5000 with 3 HDML connections
i.When I wire everything up, I keep getting"no signal" on my Sony Bravia TV.
ii. It doesn't matter whether I connect the HDMI wire to HDMI 1,2, or 3 on my Sony
iii. On my Imac Hard Drive>>Applications>>System Preferences>>Displays
all I get is a list of different resolutions. There is no mention or mirrors etc.
Nothing happens when I press "Gather Windows" or Detect Displays"
Can someone out there please help!!!!!
Can you also give any solution in very simple and small detailed steps!
    Thanks,
    Stacey Bindman
    Montreal

Majortrout, there is a major disconnect going on here.
    1. You are showing an Ebay link with a mini-DVI to HDMI adapter.
    2. You report that you have an Early '09 24" iMac.
    3. That iMac does not have a mini-DVI port. That iMac has a mini-DispayPort.
    4. You need a mini-DisplayPort to HDMI adapter.
It is physically impossible to attach the adapter to which you link at Ebay to your iMac. So you need to take a step back and figure out what you really have; which iMac, which adapter, etc.

  • HT4241 Mini DVI to HDMI adapter. Not gettint desktop to show on TV

I have the Apple mini to HDMI adapter. When I plug my late 2008 Mac 13" up to my TV, it doesn't show my desktop. It acts like a 2nd screen. I can drag stuff from my Mac desktop over to the TV. Is there a setting I am not finding I need to change?

You have the display set in Extended Desktop mode with the MacBook as the main screen. The Menu Bar and Dock will be on the MacBook display and your background screen on the TV but you can move the cursor onto the TV screen.
In System Preferences>Display on the MacBook screen there should be an Arrangement tab when you have the MacBook hooked up to the TV and both screens working. When you click the Arrangement tab do you see two monitors side by side? One of them will have a Menu Bar at the top. Just click on the Menu Bar and drag it to the second monitor. That will make the second monitor your main screen.
The TV will now have the Dock and Menu Bar and windows will open on it. But you can move the cursor to the MacBook screen and move windows from the TV over to the MacBook screen.
You can now use your MacBook in Clamshell Mode with a wired or Bluetooth keyboard and mouse.  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3131 When you disconnect from the TV your Menu Bar will automatically change back to the MacBook.
Or if you want to work on the MacBook screen while showing it on a TV you can check the Mirror Display box on the lower left hand side of the Arrangement tab under the two monitors box. That will give you the same screen at the same resolution on both the MacBook and the external monitor.

  • HDMI adapter does not work on IPad 2.  Not unique to this cable or to my ipad

I bought the apple branded HDMI adapter for my new IPad 2.  When I plug it in it will give me a black screen and will, at most, very very sporadically flash the ipad screen for about one second then go back to black.  Before assisting please read below to see what I have tried already:
I tried the cable on 2 different IPad2s and an original IPad.
I tried a different cable of the same design on 2 different IPad2s
I tried using both cables on two different tvs and using two different hdmi cables
    I also tried powering off
I also tried running for-sure-supposed-to-work apps (although the IPad2 should mirror so that was unnecessary too).
I took to the Apple Store and they had no clue what was going on either.  Anyone know if this adapter is just a defective product in general?  What other things can I do to put my IPad on the tv...it was a large part of why I bought it.

Don't know if this will help, but this is the procedure I use to get mine to work:
Insert HDMI cable into TV port.
With TV on, select input to HDMI port on the TV that the cable is connected to.
With the iPad in sleep mode attach adapter with HDMI cable and power adapter connected to iPad.
Turn iPad on (take out of sleep mode).
This works for me every time.
Also heard that a while ago Apple produced a batch of bad HDMI adapters.  This could have happened again or not all the bad ones got sent back.

  • DVI HDMI adapter possible?

I need a mini DVI to HDMI adapter, but there appear to be several different shapes, etc.  What should I buy?

When you first hook it up it will probably have the display set in Extended Desktop mode. The Menu Bar and Dock will be on the MacBook display and yourbackground screen will be on the TV but you can move the cursor onto the TV screen.
In System Preferences>Display there should be an Arrangement tab when you have the MacBook hooked up to the TV and both screens working. When you click the Arrangement tab do you see two monitors side by side? One of them will have a Menu Bar at the top. Just click on the Menu Bar and drag it to the second monitor. That will make the second monitor your main screen. You can now use your MacBook in Clamshell Mode with a wired or Bluetooth keyboard and mouse.  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3131 When you disconnect from the TV your Menu Bar will automatically change back to the MacBook.
Or if you want to work on the MacBook screen while showing it on a TV you can check the Mirror Display box on the lower left hand side of the Arrangementtab under the two monitors box.
If you connect the MacBook using a Mini-DVI toHDMI adapter you will probably need to use external speakers or a stereo system for audio. The Mini-DVI to HDMI doesn't carry audio and there's no audio plugs on most TVs to work with HDMI since it's expecting audio with the HDMI.

  • Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter by Belkin for iMac 2009 failed to work

This is an SOS message. I have purchased another Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter and I have iMac (27-inc, Late 2009) running OS X Yosemite (Version 10.10.1).  I have carried out the connection of Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter to LG Plasma TV Screen, but there is no sign of any of the equipment reading or aware of the connection.  Is there anybody out there who can help me make it work?  Also, why is that Yosemite - System Preference, click on Displays does not contain - Arrangement?  I'll greatly appreciate any useful tips from the community or apple support team.

Eric has helped in providing in dept understanding around the subject matter, but unfortunately, it has not provided the solution to the problem.
The Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter when connected to the external Plasma TV screen, nothing happens.  The System Preferences was accessed -and the Displays monitor sign was clicked, but it only showed - Display/Colour, which according to the instructions / descriptions contain in the - Video Troubleshooting Internal and External Monitors literatures and video, there seems to be missing - Arrangement / or AirPlay from my OS X Yosemite version.
The above is the version of OS X Yosemite - showing on my *iMac when clicked on System Preferences, and as result I have not been able to make the Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter to LG Plasma TV Screen to work.
    My *iMac is -
    iMac (27-inch, Late 2009)
    iMac10,1
    (10.10.1)
    MB952XX/A
    Running OS X Yosemite
When the above image is compared with the following image below, there is definitely something missing and it’s probably affecting the Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter to work in my connection.
    Questions:
How can I make my iMac 10,1 (27-in, late 2009, currently running OS X Yosemite 10.10.1) to have the above AirPlay mirroring or Arrangement to activate the connection?
Are there other ways I can make the connection to work?
Is there any body who has a similar iMac specs and OS X Yosemite who has overcome connecting to external Plasma TV Screen?

  • HT4241 Mini dv to HDMI adapter

Over the last several months I have enjoyed showing my computers screen up on my nice HD television via a minidv to hdmi adapter I got off amazon.  The last few weeks, sometimes when I'd plug it in it would only show the default lion destop image (which is not my current wallpaper).  Anything I would open on the computer would not show on the TV, just the picture of a galaxy.  In the begining I would just restart my computer and it would work again. Now it's not going away. I have restarted my computer several times and reset the pram because I dont know any other troubleshooting steps other than that. Is there like a hotkey to show whats actually on my computer and thats just like a standby mode or something? Any help would be much appreciatted, Todd
p.s. also the time when it stopped working completly is after I got my display and battery replace from the applestore because they were having issues, not sure if that would really have anything to do with it though.

nevermind, I didnt have mirror displays checked in system preferences under displays. issue resolved.

  • Can i use the HDMI port and the Mini displayport to HDMI adapter simultaneously to switch between two displays?

I just bought a new Mac Mini and was hoping that i can connect my TV via the HDMI port and also connect a 19" monitor via the Minidispaly port to HDMI adapter or the Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter. This way i can pick between having the screen mirrored to my tv, or having the screen displayed at my desk.
    Is this possible?

Yes. Note the resolution via HDM is limited to
This model simultaneously supports 1920x1200 on an HDMI or a DVI display (using the included HDMI-to-DVI adapter) and2560x1600 on a Thunderbolt or Mini DisplayPort display or even a VGA display (with an optional Mini DisplayPort-to-VGA adapter, which is compatible with the Thunderbolt port).
