HDMI Audio issue with Samsung Plasma

Hi all,
I have a mid 2010 Mac Mini that I bought for my HTPC. I am unable to get the HDMI audio to work after trying a number of connection possibilities. Here's the setup -
Mac Mini to Samsung via HDMI cable (1.3a) in either HDMI port - no audio
Mac Mini to Samsung via HDMI cable currently working for my uverse service - no audio
Mac Mini to Insignia LCD via HDMI cable in either HDMI port- no audio
I thought it was hardware, so I made a genius appointment and took it in. They gave me a new mini. Same exact issue.
When I switch to SAMSUNG in the sound properties, it tells me "The selected device has no output controls"
Video works fine.
What am I doing wrong? Did I just get two bad boards? This is really freaking annoying.

I have the same issue... perfect image on a Samsung TV UE32EH5300, but no sound. I tried changing the input name to HDMI/PC (and tried all others) with no success.
Altough I noticed one rare thing. I opened Mountain Lion AudioMidi Configuration and selected the HDMI output. Can't move the volume controls because these are supposed to be controlled on the TV. But when clicking at the Speaker configuration and making a test for L/R speakers... each TV  speaker (connected by HDMI) reproduced statics.
THEN I'M CONFUSED!!!!... how can I hear sound produced by the computer but can't have the normal audio on HDMI???
Any help???

  • Vista 64, Latest Driver & X-Fi Elite Pro: Audio issue with Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 (Pes 20

Hi,i have formatted XP S.P.2 and now i'm using Vista Ultimate 64.I have got an X-Fi Elite Pro and i have installed all the applications using the CD-Rom.I updated the driver, Alchemy and Mediasource to the latest version. The system is totally clean and updated (I used Windows Update when i finished to install Vista and nothing was installed). I would like to know why i cannot play Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 like in XP: when i enter in the game i have a noise (looks like the noise of the needle in old gramophones...) and i cannot use the speakers (Creative ProGamer G500).If i turn the volume to 0 i can hear it too... i have to switch off the speakers or exit the game to delete it.Is it another bug I tried to uninstall and doing a new installation of the game but... no way men... Thanks p.s.After year and 4 months (release date of Vista) is it possible to have a decent driver... The Audio Quality in Vista Ultimate 64 bit is lower than in XP and the same wave files have distortion with the low and middle-high volume (60-70).
Problems that i have never had in XP... i cannot reinstall XP another time. I bought Vista in 2006 and i cannot use it till you'll release a good sw.
Have we to wait till 200 for a fuc.ing working driver

The problem is now official: other customers have problems with some games (Pes 2008 and Crysis in particular). I'll show u the main italian hw. forum. There is a thread of more than 500 pages just about Creative X-Fi: http://www.hwupgrade.it/forum/showth...42043&page=550 I would like to know if u test drivers before sharing... because i don't know what you did in more than year. You should meditate, people... I paid more than 400 $ for an Elite Pro and after year and 4 month i cannot install Vista 64 too for audio issues with mp3-wave files and Pes 2008 or Vista 32 bit for problems with Pes 2008. This is my latest Creative product, you can trust.

  • Sound / Audio issues with Google Chrome

    Hi guys,
I have this audio issue with a new Macbook Air (2013 base model).
When I stream audio / video (eg podcast, YouTube, NBATV) via Google Chrome, there is the static or clicking sound which you could hear both through the built in speakers and through the headset.
Brought it in to the Apple Store yesterday and they acknowledged the sound on Chrome.  HOWEVER when using Safari, this clicking / static sound is no longer audible.  I can probably record an audio clip to demo this further.  The genius concoluded that this is probably an issues with Chrome or codecs that its using rather than the actual laptop.  No replacements at this stage.
I have an old MBA 11” where this issue does NOT occur.
The hesitation in using Safari is Flash.  Some video streams such as NBATV, which I watch quite frequently use Flash. Chrome handles this quite well, with no separate installs required.
Has anyone else encountered this?  Not sure if I can pursue this issue further with Apple.

Chrome shockwave flash plugin issue causing sound problems on the macbook:
Shockwave Flash 11.5 r31    (old version)
    Shockwave Flash 11.5 r502
    disabling r31 solved it.
Many people have checked their chrome plugins and found they had two plugins enabled. They disabled the older one and audio is perfect.
    -Go to chrome://plugins
-Click and expand +Details in the Upper Right
    -Check over the flash files.
    -One is version 11.3.31.222
-Disable the odd version and reload the flash content
For some reason, CHROME has allowed two flash plugins to be enabled at the same time, and clearly the older version is the one causing the problems.
go to "Chrome://plugins" tab. Click “Details” at the upper-right corner of the page.
Find “Shockwave Flash” listing for the integrated plug-in on the page and click the corresponding “Disable” button. To identify the integrated plug-in, see the table of plug-in filenames above.
Find the “Flash” (or “Shockwave Flash”) listing for the system plug-in on the page and click the corresponding “Enable” button. To identify the system plug-in, see the table of plug-in filenames above.
disabling Shockwave Flash 11.4 r31 resolved the problem for most people.
When people double checked: if they re-enable Shockwave Flash 11.4 r31, ....the distorted / broken audio happens again.
Hope that solves it for you

  • Facetime Audio Issues with Logitech Webcam

I have been experiencing audio issues with Facetime with my Apple Mac Mini A1283 and Logitech Webcam Pro 9000 ever since I upgraded to Mac OSX Yosemite 10.10.  The webcam worked fine before upgrading to OSX 10.10 and 10.10.1. During Facetime calls my the video works okay, but the audio makes me sound like "Alvin and the Chipmunks" and the other person on the receiving end sounds high pitched, as well.  Other apps work just fine (i.e. Skype), just Facetime.  I tried upgrading to 10.10.1, but the issue has yet to be resolved.  Apparently I am not the only one experiencing this issue.

  • Audio issues with HDMI connection

I just bought a toshiba 40l5200u (40'' 1080p) and I'm having issues with connecting my macbook pro to it with a HDMI cable. The picture looks fine and everything, but the audio is horrible. The bass specifically sounds terrible, very gravelly if that makes sense. Dialogue is usually fine, but when something loud, for example, happens in during a movie the audio (bass mostly) gets very distorted, scratchy, and just a pain to listen to. The audio sounds perfectly fine when I play a DVD through a dvd player, so it the speakers on the tv don't seem to be the problem.
I was originally using a "Cable Matters Gold Plated Premium Mini DisplayPort | Thunderbolt to HDMI Male to Male Cable in White 10 ft" (here's the Amazon link: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004CADYDO/ref=oh_details_o04_s01_i00?ie=UTF8&p sc=1). I thought the issue might be with the HDMI cable, so I recently bought a "PNY A-DM-HD-W01 Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter" (here's the Amazon link: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007B6YPAM/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&p sc=1) and another HDMI cable, "BlueRigger High Speed HDMI cable with Ethernet, Supports 3D and Audio Return" (here's the Amazon link: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003XM9774/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i01?ie=UTF8&p sc=1) but that didn't fix the problem at all.
What I can deduce is that the problem isn't with the tv's speakers. Other than that though I have no idea. Any suggestions on what to do? I would be very appreciative. Thanks.

It sounds like a software problem. Try updating your Flash software and your audio drivers.

  • HDMI Signal Issue with LG TV

Has anybody seen issues with ATV and LG LCD TVs ? Have mine hooked up to input source HDMI1 on the LG, but when switching to HDMI1 from DTV the LG shows "no signal". ATV is on, and switching the TV off/on again shows the ATV menu and all is well..just an annoyance really but would be good if it could be fixed. Have tried HDMI2 source and same issue occurs. I think its a TV issue not an ATV on. ATV running latest s/w update.

I will definitely wait for the apple tv updates, as always. But I thought I'd pass on this interesting piece of info that may only cloud up our deductions or offer potential solutions to people's woes ! For grins, a co-worker loaned me a DISH Network thick orange HDMI v1.3 cable to try out. So....when I got the NO SIGNAL on the AppleTV while hooked up to my LG 720p Plasma via HDMI1, I swapped to the new cable. I got a signal. The AppleTV screen saver was activated by that time. So, I put back the suspect cable...leaving the TV selected to HDMI1, NO SIGNAL. Hmmmm.....put back the orange cable....signal was back. Then, put back the suspect cable....NO SIGNAL. Then I tried my other known working HDMI cable (also a Philips SWV2432W/27 6ft which has been used on an LG BluRay player to LG TV via HDMI2. I had a signal. I put back the original suspect cable...NO SIGNAL. Wiggled it about 6 inches from the AppleTV connection and I had a flash on the screen and momentary video...then NO SIGNAL. I wiggled it a little more and had a signal that stayed. So...my conclusion....is that given this evidence....it is entirely possible I have a bad intermittent cable. So, tomorrow I head back to Fry's for a replacement cable.
On the other hand, I can honestly say that I wouldn't be surprised if the issue repeats, given that I really didn't get any extended viewing in while performing this experiment. But, the experiment and the "random no signals" I got a few days back before going strictly component, could totally be explained by a bad cable.
I'll let everyone know my results with the new cable.
Also...from what I've gather on those HDMI settings, under Video and Audio....I think the HDMI settings are strictly for color boost/subtraction, etc. I don't think I've read definitively that they are for handshaking.
If it is the cable, I can just hear Video Store Salesmen all over the world saying "Now you know why you need to buy the $50 HDMI cable!" <No, thanks, I'll stay with the reasonable less than $20 cables>

  • Sony X85C - Bravia Sync Issue with Samsung Homecinema and WD Live Box

Hello  I purchased the 2015 4k Sony TV X85c line, its the 55" with Model Nr: KD55X8507C (silver bezel). The latest Android TV version from mid July is installed and the TV is working fine - except for the interaction with my 2 other components:- a Western Digital Live streaming player box- a Samsung Homecinema HT-D6750W  I knew i could run into problems when mixing up brands, but the issue now is really bugging me: The Samsung homecinema is connected via the HDMI 4 ARC to the Sony TV. The Westen Digital is connected to the homecinema. All devices are HDMI CEC compatible, thus on the Sony I can see the other devices and even control them with the Sony remote - which "concept wise" is really neat, but something is failing.  It seems that the Sony trys constantly to switch between audio system (Samsung) and its own TV speakers when choosing how to deliver the sound. This somehow interfers with the menu dialogs of the Sony. As soon as I connect the Samsung Homecinema and go into the display menu to change image settings / modes it the menu will crash after some seconds (it just fades away). This does not happen when the homecinema is not connected, but then of course im missing the sound of my homecinema.  So there seems to be a certain interference and I assume it could be because of the constant audio switching between TV and audio system. I already tried to deactivate all HDMI-CEC features on the devices, but for the Sony TV's bravia sync its impossible to deactivate fully (the menu is just greyed and "on").  I'm getting some new and state of the art HDMI cables later this day, maybe this will bring a positive effect. Anyone experiences something similiar with the X85C range of products? Is there a way to handle it? ThanksAndre / xenom0rph

I "solved" the problem: Bravia Sync does not seem to be compatible with HDMI CEC / Anynet of the Samsung homecinema. I deactivated all HDMI CEC features on the samsung player and the WD TV Live box, and then the deactivation of bravia sync was possible on the TV. After that the issue with the menu crashes was gone. Now i try to get digital audio with optical to the samsung player. So i connected optical out from the Sony TV to the optical in of the player. There are different settings to be made in the sonys audio menu now which I'm still not sure what to do. It has different compression modes for the audio (auto 1, auto 2, pcm). PCM seems to work for most digital audio content, but i fear DTS is not supported by the Sony. I tried the XBMC Kodi Android App on the Sony TV and got digital audio on some movies, but not all of em....not sure if its an app or TV problem.  Oh well..for the moment i stay with the WD live streaming box which supports all audio formats and is connected via HDMI to the player, but its just a very slow cpu in there, so it would be cool to use the more powerful TV as streaming player.

  • HDMI Audio Problems with HPEnvy

    Hi,
When I connect the HDMI port to an Elgato Game Capture Card, there is video, but no audio. Examining the audio options, the HDMI audio driver is not even loaded.
I have the latest drivers, and in fact, when connecting to other devidces (such as a Samsung TV or audio enabled monitor) using the HDMI port, the audio works fine, and the HDMI HD audio driver is available in the audio menus.
I know that some people on other windows 8.1 platforms have been able to do this, but not me.  I would  love a solution.
Currently, I am using the audio from the earphone port, but the sound is less good than I would like, and of course there is an additional rats nest of cables this way.
Thanks so much for any help.
    Best,
    Scott

  • HP Pavilion dv9218tx Notebook PC and HDMI audio problem with Sony TV and Windows 7

Sound does not come through with the HDMI connection and, on investigation, there is no HDMI audio driver/option.
Noting that there seemed to be an issue with windows 7 and HDMI audio which is addressed by updating the BIOS and the connexant sound driver I have done so to no effect.
The Sony TV is recognised as a standard monitor in the devices for graphics but not for audio
Suggestions as to why HDMI does not appear - including as a disabled service - and what to do t get is available?

    Hello everyone,
Thanks for posting on the HP Forums!
I will definitely assist you with lack of sound issues. Before anything else is done, please make sure you try every step in this thread: Troubleshooting Guide: Audio does not Work after a Certain Period of Time
If every step does not help, please provide the following information:
    1. The computer's model number. If you require assistance locating this information, please reference this website: Guide to finding your notebook product number
    2. The computer's operating system. If you require assistance locating this information, please reference this website to determine your Windows operating system.
    3. Does this occur on certain programs, or all programs?
    4. Have you installed any new software or drivers on this computer, before the issue appeared?
    5. What steps have been attempted from my first post on this thread, and what were the results?
Additionally, if the issue just began occurring, I would perform a system restore. I want you to bring the computer back to the earliest restore point possible, in an attempt to dodge whatever caused the issue. Here is a document on how to perform a System Restore: System Restore
Either way, let me know what happens. Thanks!

I've yet to get HDMI audio output to work correctly. I've tried the advice to use aplay -l to find my card/device number, but my output seems different from every other one I've seen online. To my knowledge, I have the proprietary NVIDIA drivers installed correctly.

i had the same problem the device you need to use is propably 9 install alsa-utils if you havent and run alsamixer then select the Nvidia device and check if all 4 of them are unmuted (the last three will probably be muted...)
You can unmute them with M after that test the devices again with aplay

  • HDMI Audio Issue/Radeon Grapics Card [Solved]

    Hello All,
New user to Arch, been using linux for a little while longer. I'm trying to set my HDMI out as default output, but cannot seem to make it work. I've tried the wiki, forums, and websearches, but none of the methods (and variations thereof) seem to work for me. The hw must work, for I am listening to music as I type via HDMI, but I must go into VLC>Audio Output>HDMI. So if someone could help me out, walk me through it, I would appreciate it very much. I'll post some info below, sorry in advance if it's not everything needed. If you want to assume I am a complete n00b/idiot, I will not be offended. Thanks in advance!

OK, I think I've got a resolution. I used a combination of several wikis to get it right, mainly:
    ALSA-Gentoo Wiki
    ALSA-Arch Wiki
    ATI#HDMI Audio-Arch Wiki
    Kernel Parameters-Arch Wiki
I searched a number of other pages I don't remember right now, but these were the most helpful as I recall. I again added "radeon.audio=1" to /etc/default/grub per the "Kernel Parameters" and "ATI#HDMI Audio" Arch Wikis. I then modeled  my ~/.asoundrc to match the Gentoo Wiki example, with a slight tweak to fit my hardware. That file now looks like this:
    GNU nano 2.2.6 File: ~/.asoundrc
    pcm.!hdmi {
    type hw
    card 0
    device 3
    pcm.!default {
    type plug
    slave {
    pcm "hdmi"
It's been a few days, with rebooting everyday, and so far so good. Audio programs (eg. VLC) and flash content are working just fine. However, speaker-test & aplay -D give no errors and the scripts run, but no audio is actuallly produced. ??? Is this a problem, or can I continue to ignore it?
Anyways I consider this pretty much resolved, and hope this helps anyone else with this issue. Cheers!!!

  • Mac mini 2011 HDMI audio issues

What are the known issues with HDMI audio with Lion and the new Mac minis?
I'm in the process of swapping out an older Mac mini that was connected to my home theater (Pioneer SC-05 reciever, Pioneer TV), with a new 2011 i5 Mac mini.  The old Mac required use of a minidisplay port to HDMI adapter, and a toslink adapter to get audio to receiver through an optical cable.  Previous setup was working fine, but with the new 2011 Mac mini swapped in with the direct HDMI connection to the Pioneer SC-05 receiver, I'm not getting 5.1 audio.  The video is fine and is being passed through to the TV, but the receiver is only doing dolby prologic audio, even though the movies are Dolby Digital 5.1.
I'm using Plex .934 on the Mac.  Audio on the Mac is set to HDMI.  Plex is set to Dolby (AC3) digital capable receiver, etc.

Hi All, I have the new 2011 macmini to replace the 2010 version. I had issues with HDMI sound as well, but it turns out the issue lies in having AND the HDMI cable in AND a toslink/headphones cable.
In the 2010 version you could select the Sound output to go via HDMI or Analog.
In the 2011 version (if you have plugged-in a cable in the headphones) the HDMI sound output is impossible to choose. It is only selectable when you have unplugged the headphones cable. So what is the use of the Output settings if you cannot select anything if you have more than 1 output.....
The guy form AppleCare told me this is a firmware bug that 'should' be solved.....
When I unplug the headphones and start a movie in Movist, I have DTS and DD. With VLC it does not work, but that has to do with the upgrade to Lion (see the VLC forum).
I assume the firmware upgrade will come soon otherwise I will be VERY dissapointed in Apple quality this time and will certainly stop buying new Apple gadgets when they come out. As this was the reason why I switched from Microsoft to Apple......

  • Audio issues with ASUS G750JX

    Hey Arch,
I'm having a bit of trouble with my audio and was hoping you guys could assist me with it/simplify it.
Incase no one reads all the way to the bottom, basically I'm wondering if theres a way of just using one audio system and not having to worry about the other.
Volume levels won't save no matter what I've tried so far, plus everytime the laptop gets turned on, the headphones level which controls speakers is set to 0
"HDA Intel PCH (Alsa mixer)" "Headphone" controls Bass, "Speaker" controls speakers, "PCM" controls something else as sound gets quieter when it's lowered.
If I plug headphones in, everything gets muted, although after unmuting audio is played through the headphones, however when the headphones are unpluged, the audio mutes again until I manually unmute each stream.
I'm unsure which programs use which audio system, be it Alsa mixer or PulseAudio
Gmusicbrowser - audio is controlled both by itself and by Alsa/Pulse it seems
Vlc - similar but seems to match what both Alsa and Pulse show
I've tried setting them to just use one audio system but it doesnt seem to work.
Below are what come up in the xfce4-mixer
    HDA Intel PCH (Alsa mixer)*
    HDA NVidia (Alsa mixer)
Playback: GK106 HDMI Audio Controller Digitial Stereo (HDMI) (PulseAudio Mixer)
Playback: Built-in Audio Analog Stereo (PulseAudio Mixer)*
*Both seem to control audio, "HDA Intel PCH (Alsa mixer)" master "somewhat mirrors" what "Playback: Built-in Audio Analog Stereo (PulseAudio Mixer)" does. Eg "Master" is lowered in "HDA Intel PCH (Alsa mixer)" it gets lowered in "Playback: Built-in Audio Analog Stereo (PulseAudio Mixer)" but doesnt exactly match it
    $lspci |grep Audio
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 8 Series/C220 Series Chipset High Definition Audio Controller (rev 05)
01:00.1 Audio device: NVIDIA Corporation GK106 HDMI Audio Controller (rev a1)
The following are packages installed relating to Alsa or Pulseaudio
    multilib/lib32-libpulse
    multilib/lib32-alsa-lib
    extra/libao
    extra/libcanberra-pulse
    extra/libpulse
    extra/pulseaudio
    extra/pulseaudio-alsa
    extra/alsa-lib
    extra/alsa-plugins
    extra/alsa-utils
    extra/zita-alsa-pcmi
*multilib packages are primarily due to having skype (don't think I've installed anything else from multilib)
I'm set to get updates from testing and community-testing
Side note - if anyone knows how to get the XF86Backlight keys working (for the actual backlight) that would be cool, currently i control the backlight with the xfce4 power manager plugin.
Thanks to who ever is able to help.

Oh man, this is driving me nuts. First I was having the loud "pop" in the speakers, apparently the sound subsystem going to sleep to save power, heavily discussed in these forums. I applied the 10.4.10v1.1 update and these loud "pops" seemed to have gone away, but what still remains is a soft "scratch" sound before and after almost every time the computer makes sound. Includes interface sounds in the finder, quicktime movies, almost everything. It seems to only happen on my line out, and the loudness of the "scratches" is constant regardless of the mac's volume setting.
I am mostly making music with this thing, so the scratches coming out of my studio monitor speakers is very annoying. Any idea, any workarounds, please help.

  • Audio Issues with MacBook Pro (Late 2008)

I am seeing an occasional issue with my MacBook Pro (Late 2008). The Audio will go out... and instead you will just hear static-like clicking sounds when and audio even happens. For example... when you have the up/down volume notification on... and you change the audio volume.. you hear clicks. Or... when you open up a file that has audio.. you will hear the static-like click when the audio starts to try to play.
The work around per-se is to completely shutdown and turn the notebook back on. A simple restart does not seem to fix it... it looks like the system needs to have a bit of energy drain first. Which... worries me that this is a hardware issue and not a driver issue.
Wondering how many others are seeing this???

I went to and Apple Support Center last week and I asked some questions about audio because my MBP was having troubles too. The tech told me audio issues are very frequent on these machines and sometimes you have to change a part of the soundcard. He also added you have to bring the MBP to a support center if you're having the problem several times - in my case I'm waiting the next "crash" since I had only 2 issues so far... If you're under warranty go for a check up and see if it really needs assistance. Goodbye
