HDMI cable compatibility with Computer

Hi, I tried buying a Google Chromecast, it didn't work they said because it's Windows Vista. Then I bought an HDMI cable to connect my TV to my computer, that's what I heard to do. There is no connection to the computer for the HDMI cable. Is that because it's too old? Its about six years old. Will a new computer be compatible?

Laptop or Desktop.
If your computer has HDMI output it should project on the TV.
However, you need to extend your display to the TV.
If your on a laptop there may be a key on the keyboard, often a secondary function of an F# key, that you can press and extend your display.
Or, and I don't know how to get into it on Vista, you need to go into your display properties and extend the display to the TV.   Possibly a right click on your desktop.
and I am not certain how display properties look on Vista.
Do this with the hdmi cable plugged into your TV and computer.  In display properties if you only see one monitor there should be an option to add a second,  Then there should be an option to EXTEND the display.  You can either show the same thing on both displays or set it up as a second display.
I know Vista can support this.  I installed a GPU with an HDMI output on my fathers computer some years ago so he could watch Netfliix on his TV
Do a Google Search for
about tech display vista
The third hit when I did it is for online-tech-tips and it gives a good simple way to do this with pictures.

  • Is the old HP-IB on a ribbon cable compatable with the now standard GPIB?

I have found a HP61001A and associated 61016, 61014 etc test equipment. It uses a ribbon cable to interface. Would anyone know if this is compatable with the now standard GPIB? Could it be used with some form of "connection converter"? Many thanks for any help.

    Dave,
I recommend that you call HP to determine if the instrument is 488.1 compliant. If it is, then you can use GPIB boards (even 488.2 boards), but you must use 488.1 commands (such as ibwrt and ibrd). If the instrument is not 488.1 compliant, then you cannot use it with GPIB.
    I hope this helps.

  • Twinax cable compatibility with 2960X

    Hi,
I'm trying to connect WS-C2960X-48FPD-L with WS-C4500X-40X-ES via SFP-H10GB-ACU10M (Twinax cable). On 2960X I'm running  15.0(2)EX5 & on C4500X IOS XE 03.06.01.E, now where I use twinax cable on 2960X I get invalid gbic error and port gets error disabled please advise if I'm running the required image and why I'm getting this error.

    Hi,
You are running the required image on both devices.  Does it work if you use a fiber patch cord instead?

  • How do i get my surround sound to work with my laptop while using a hdmi cable for the video

I have a Sony surround sound  system hooked up that works great. My X-Box 360 works with it and I can get my HP G60 to play audio files through the surround sound system with a red and white audio jack plugged into the back of my surround sound receiver, the red and white audio cord goes to a 3.5mm headphone jack that i plug into the headphone plug on the front of my computer. The problem occurs when I hook my HDMI cable into my computer and connect it to my Samsung Flat screen, the HDMI sound takes over and wont allow the sound to go through the headphone jack. My tv does not have any audio output plugs, and my suround sound reciever doesnt have an HDMI input. Is there a setting on the computer that will allow me to over ride the HDMI sound and direct the sound through the head phones? or is there an app or tool that will allow my laptop to recognize my suround sound system plugged into my laptop? I have been to best buy, walmart, radio shack and even my local car audio store to ask about this issue and everyone has a different solution, and so far none of them have worked???????? sincerley frustrated! please help!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

    Hello JaeRoc48,
I understand that the sound is not working.
    Go to start.
    Type Sound.
    Select sound.
    Select speakers as default.
    Click OK.
Let me know how everything goes.

  • What display settings do i need to change to use hdmi cable with macbook pro

what display settings do i need to change to what tv and display my macbook pro with hdmi cable connected to computer.

Well, if it's 1080p TV, then go into System Preferences > Displays.
Sometimes you have to click on detect displays & a PreferencePane should appear on each display device for you to change the resolution.
Also decide if you want it mirrored, or extended. And also move the display to the correct position for extended so you are moving the mouse in the direction of the 2nd display being the TV.
Option + F1 = Brings Display preferences up immediately.
Command + F1 or F2 = from memory that's the shortcut to switch back & forth between mirroring & extended.

  • No audio through HDMI cable when listening to audio tracks but ok with vids

    Please Help!!
Ok I hooked up my HP to my Samsung 1080p hdtv through an HDMI cable. My computer displays fine on the TV, the visualizer in ITunes shows just fine, but the audio only comes out of the speakers on my laptop when playing a regular music track. When it plays one of the bonus music videos on the same album, audio and video both play. When I play the songs in any other interface, ie windows media player and HP quick play, audio tracks play fine through HDMI. So this has to be something with ITunes. Anyone know what the problem is?
    Thanks!

Wouldn't you know it, just figured it out. You have to make sure that itunes is not loaded before hooking up the HDMI cable. So,
    turn off itunes,
    hook up the HDMI cable,
(go to sound [control panel] and make sure that HDMI has the checkmark next to it),
    load itunes,
    enjoy.

  • HT200197 the colour on my apple tv is not right. itsshowing every thing in a grean and purple colour. i have restarted apple tv and changed the hdmi cable but the problem stiil persists

the colour on my apple tv is not right. the only colours are black white green and purple. i have retatrted my apple tv and chenged the HDMI cable all with no success.
any suggestions of what else i can try?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
If your problem persists get yourself a micro USB cable (sold separately), you can restore your Apple TV from iTunes:
Remove ALL cables from Apple TV. (if you don't you will not see Apple TV in the iTunes Source list)
Connect the micro USB cable to the Apple TV and to your computer.
Reconnect the power cable (only for Apple TV 3)
    Open iTunes.
Select your Apple TV in the Devices list, and then click Restore.
(You may already have a micro USB cable if you have a camera or other digital device)
If this doesn't help, try it on another TV, if the problem persists you possibly have a failed unit.

  • Hdmi cable problems

So about a 2 months ago I bought an hdmi cable, along with the cable adapters to hook up your macbook to the tv. It worked very well initially but lately when I've been hooking it up (I use it to watch netflix on the tv) it will disconnect and give me some snowball or just go to black. This happens for about 30 seconds and it goes back to normal. I've tried restarting the computer. I'm beginning to think that there is a problem with a wire inside of the cable. Has anyone had this experience? Or is there any thing I can do to fix this? Idk if this helps but I have a 2011 MacBook Pro.

    Hi,
What is the model/product of your "HP Envy 23 Touchsmart PC". Normally the HDMI port is for input only (you can connect a games console to it such as XBox, PS3 ..) but no TV, this won't work. If you wish to connect to a TV, you need to use a USB to HDMI converter or USB video card with HDMI out. You can find model/product of your machine at the back.
    Regards.

  • I have a dynex 32" lcd tv and a pavilion dv6 and cant view the laptop on the tv using hdmi cables

trying to view netfilx my computer has windows 7 when i plug in the hdmi cable in the computer screen goes black and there is no signal on tv

I'm having the exact same problem.  I have a Pavilion dv6 running Windows 7, and I have a Dynex TV I was planning to use as an external monitor.  The HDMI cable didn't work; as soon as I connected the computer to the TV using the cable, the computer screen went gray and no further commands would work.  TV said 'No signal'.  Did you ever resolve your problem?  Should I try a VGA cable?
Note that I connected the same tv to a different computer using the same HDMI cable and *SNAP* it came on instantly.

  • IMAC 8.1 IS IT COMPATABLE WITH MINI ADAPTOR TO HDMI CABLE TO TV?

I have a imac 8.1 running 10.6.8, Im tryint to get the picture and sound to the Tv for viewing and screen sharing. I have the Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adaptor to the HDMI Cable but cannot get it to work as when i go to system preferences, Display, I cannot find appearances.   Cananyone help me, I was told I have the correct accessories but cannot get it to work, the Tv is new and has the correct HDMI connections, Thanks Paula

I looked up "iMac 8.1" on everymac.com and it indicates this model has a DVI output, not a miniDisplayPort output.  Are you sure you are using the correct adapter?
Also, your TV has to be set to the same HDMI input that you connected to your iMac.  If its set to a different input, the Mac will not "see" your TV.   (eg, if your iMac is connected to the TV's HDMI-1 input, on the TV you must select the HDMI-1 input).    Note, also, that some TVs only support computer connections on certain inputs.  Check the manual for instructions on this.  (On my Sony Bravia HDTV, the manual is explicit that computers need to be connected to HDMI-4, for reasons not explained.)

  • How do i use my HDMI cable with my macbook pro?

  • How to connect macbook pro to panasonic tv with hdmi cable

How to connect macbook pro to panasonic hd tv with hdmi cable

    Hi m,
It depends which MPB you have and the inputs on the TV. The following assumes your TV has an HDMI input which will work with a computer.
This is if your MBP is from April 2010 or newer:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4241
First connect the adapter to the MBP and the HDMI cable from the adapter to the TV, then go to System Preferences > Sound > Output > select HDMI.
Or if your MBP is older than that and you have a Mini DisplayPort, you can use something like this: http://eshop.macsales.com/item/NewerTech/CBLMDPHDMID/
If it's older than that, for video you need a DVI or mini DVI to HDMI or whatever input your TV has. For audio, you need a 3.5mm stereo mini plug to RCA or optical (Toslink), depending on what audio input your TV has.
