Hi, I have a HD Camera and I need a HDMI Cable to connect to my macbook pro's software (Istopmotion). I'm not sure which one I need to connect the Camera.

No, you need an appropriate adaptor which you can purchase from Apple's Online Store. They also sell the Griffin adaptor that works with several types of video out ports on Macs.

  • Help using a mini display port to HDMI cable with MacBook Air and TV

Hi, Apple gurus. I need help setting up my MacBook Air to my Vizio TV using a mini display port to HDMI cable that I just purchased on Amazon.
And here's info about my MacBook Air:
In the Amazon reviews, someone posted the following how-tos, which aren't working for me:
    1. Plug in both ends, mini display port on your macbook and the HDMI on any available port on your LCD.
    2. Go to upper left Apple menu and scroll down to system preference. Or use your FINDER from the dock, go to applications, then system preference.
    3. Click on Displays
    4. Click on DETECT DISPLAY
    5. A similar screen pops up with name of your LCD, mine says SONY LCD, click on ARRANGEMENT
    6. Click the box that says MIRROR DISPLAYS.
    7. Go back into system preferences and go to SOUNDS which is located under HARDWARE.
    8. Click on OUTPUT, then select HDMI, which should be listed next to your LCD name.
I ran into trouble at step #4. My MacBook Air doesn't list the option of "detecting display." I do, however, have the box mentioned in step #6, "Show mirroring options in the menu bar when available."
Regarding step #8, HDMI didn't appear in the list — I only see "internal speakers."
So, what am I doing wrong? Or, did I buy the wrong cable?
Thanks in advance for your help!

Or you need to get an appropriate adaptor. The Griffin adaptor sold on Apple's Online Store will work with a standard HDMI cable.

  • I have just tried to connect my Mac book pro to an LG Plasma TV via an iWires Mini DisplayPort to HDMI cable. All I get on my TV is the Mac wallpaper and nothing else. I am missing something really silly, could anyone help please.

Hi there. I also bought an iWires mini Display port to HDMI cable and have an LG LED/LCD TV. I plugged it in to my MB Pro and followed the very small writing that came in the package and got both audio and video going. You need to change the audio settings from within System Preferences on your Mac to select your TV as the audio output.
My concern is the data latency - do you experience a delay between moving your mouse on the MBPro and the TV displaying the movement? It is only a fraction of a second, but certainly enough to be annoying, especially in a cable as expensive as the iWire.

  • New 13" Macbook Pro trying to connect to a Panasonic VIERA TC-L42U30 as second monitor. I've used multiple hdmi-thunderbolt/mini displayport adapters and multiple hdmi cables and still no success. The Macbook does not sense the second monitor (TV). Help?!

I've been a Mac since 2008, so I know my way around the system pretty well. This issue, however, has me stumped. I had an iMac until now and only now am I experiencing some difficulty with my new MacBook Pro. The model I have is the newest 13" Macbook Pro model and I'm trying to connect a Panasonic VIERA TC-L42U30 42" HDTV as a second monitor via the Thunderbolt port.
It worked the first two times and hasn't worked since, after 10-15 attempts with different configurations, turning things on n off, restarting the mac, unplugging the cables, adapters, TV, resetting the P RAM, etc... I've used multiple hdmi-thunderbolt/mini displayport adapters and multiple hdmi cables and still no success. No matter what I do, the Macbook does not sense the TV as a second monitor anymore.
I took the MacBook Pro to the Apple Store, and their "genius" there had it working fine with a DVI connection to a regular monitor. The Panasonic TV I have has HDMI connections and one VGA connection which does not support HD, but no DVI option. I want an HD connection to mirror or extend my MacBook Pro screen. At the Apple Store, they didn't have a Thunderbolt/Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter, so he could not try that out for me.
Anyone else have this configuration or another similar one with a Panasonic HDTV?
    Ideas? Suggestions? Anything?! Help!!
P.S. I'm running Mountain Lion, if that wasn't already obvious. Everything is up to date in my App Store as well.
    Thanks!

    Hi There,
I have had the exact same issue but with a projector.
The issue lies with Mountian Lion 10.8.2.
I tried many a combination with no luck to get HDMI working.
Took my mac into the apple store and came to the conclusion it was the software, so I asked them to install 10.8 onto it (this is destructive so a backup is a must)
Bought my macbook home and voila, now displaying through my projector.
There is a small graphics update after 10.8.1 which seems to be the cause.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks.

  • HT4241 i am trying to connect a hdmi cable to my mac book air i hit source list but not is showing on my tv  can somone help me to fix it

i connect a mini display port to my HDMI cable but all i am seeing to the TV is the screen saver on the main screen i am unable to view videos on my tv  can any one help

It's possible the TV doesn;t support the same rersolution as before.
Does the LED flicker when you press remote keys?
If so try holding menu and up arrow together for 6 seconds to cycle display resolutions.
If possible try a different HDMI cable/HDMI port.
If all fails you may need to do a restore as described here:

Cannot display the screen of my macbook on TV. OS is Lion 10.7.2. The Macbook is connected to the TV is over HDMI cable.  TV shows only the backgroud picture of the Lion OS and reacts even to mission control. Do you have any suggestions for help ?

You have the display set in Extended Desktop mode. In System Preferences>Display on the MacBook screen there should be an Arrangement tab when you have the MacBook hooked up to the TV and both screens working. When you click the Arrangement tab do you see two monitors side by side? One of them will have a Menu Bar at the top. Just click on the Menu Bar and drag it to the second monitor. That will make the second monitor your main screen. You can now use your MacBook in Clamshell Mode with a wired or Bluetooth keyboard and mouse.  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3131 When you disconnect from the TV your Menu Bar will automatically change back to the MacBook.
Or if you want to work on the MacBook screen while showing it on a TV you can check the Mirror Display box on the lower left hand side of the Arrangement tab under the two monitors box.

  • I have a Samsung HD TV and I purchased a Mini Display port to HDMI Adapter today. For some strange reason I get no display on my HD tv. I even tried switching a few HDMI cables and nothing popped up. I made sure my computer was updated. Help pls

I have a Samsung HD TV and I purchased a Mini Display port to HDMI Adapter today. For some strange reason I get no display on my HD tv. I even tried switching a few HDMI cables and nothing popped up. I made sure my computer performed all software updates, and I even tried calling Apple Support. They just told me to keep trying different hdmi cables and see if anything pops up. Does anybody know what the problem is? My HDMI cable is from "rocketfish" also my display port is too.

You may have the screen refresh rate set higher than the TV is generally able to track reliably. It may be able to get there most times, but occasionally loses sync because it is out of its nominal range.
I suggest you sit down with the manual for the TV and find out what resolutions at what refresh rates it intends to support through VGA, and make sure your screen settings are near (or below) those limits.

I always suggest going to monoprice.com for cheap priced and good quality cables, adapters, aother videio/audio realated hardware.years.
    Example:
Mini DisplayPort | Thunderbolt® to HDMI® Adapter w/ Audio Support
You can search for the cable of desired length there as well.
Been using monoprice for years.   Excellent source for this kind of stuff.

  • Apple tv asks me for my password for iTunes which I enter. it then asks for a password for the password! help.....also, do I need a special HDMI cable for Apple TV?

maybe I am getting mixed up - probably should be entering Apple ID first - then password. funny thing is that I had iTunes home sharing running on TV yesterday!

You enter the Apple ID first. No special HDMI cable, any will do.

  • HDMI cables do not work on my AppleTV

i tried connecting my apple tv to my Marantz projector via HDMI cable, and its not finding it. it just says "signal not found." my component cables work just fine on it, but no-go on HDMI. and i know the HDMI cable works fine because i've used it on my PS3 and Xbox 360. i've read a few threads that talk about 1.3 or 2.0 HDMI cables, or using an HDMI switch, but before i spend money on either (which could possibly be expensive) i would rather know how to fix it. can anyone help me?

like i said, everything seems fine because my blu-ray and HD DVD players both work fine, and they use regular HDMI cables

  • How to connect a MBP to a BENQ external monitor using a HDMI cable and a HDMI to mini display adapter?

Hi, I have just bought a brand new HDMI cable and HDMI to minidisplay adapter  and tried to connect my Macbook Pro up. The external display knows it is there but it is not getting any signal. I have tried on another TV and it also says no signal and I also tried using another Mac but it still didn't work.
    Can anyone help?

In some versions of Mac OS X, with the Displays pane open, holding the Option key will show the detect displays button in the lower right.
I am using OS X Mavericks. Where did the Detect Displays button go?
You can find the Detect Displays button in the Displays section of System Preferences. Once there, press and hold the Option key to see the Detect Displays button in the lower-right corner. You can click this button to manually detect another display.
Another technique is to sleep and wake your computer, which will send the detect display sequence as well.

Yesterday I connected my MBP (late 2013) with a SCEPTRE TV using an HDMI cable and it worked perfectly.

I didn't touch the set up in any way so nothing changed physically.

  • Hello.  My 1st Generation Apple TV with HDMI cable does not turn on.  Its a used model purchased on eBay.  I've checked and ensured that the electrical plug works.  Is there anyway to manually check to see if the unit turns on or do I have a defective uni

Hope I'm using this forum right.  I purchased a 1st Generation Apple TV on eBay.  Unfortunately, I cannot get it to turn on.  I have another Apple TV (1st Generation) that works flawlessly on another TV.  So I tried to use the new unit on this TV with same electrical cord and HDMI cable.  No luck.  It would not turn on.  So I do not know if I have a defective unit or if there's another method of turning on the Apple TV.  Again:
    1.  I double checked and it was on the correct HDMI setting (the other Apple TV worked on it) and used the same cable
    2.  I double checked that the electrical was correct - again, the other Apple TV worked correct.
Any suggestions on fixing this would be most appreciated.
    Thank you

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
A good indication would be the status light to begin with, it should flash rapidly on start up and then settle down (assuming the status light is working-they have a habit of fading)
The other thing you could try is cycling the resolutions in case the previous user has left it on a setting that your TV doesn't support.
Press and hold both the 'menu' and '+' on the Apple Remote for about 6 seconds.
Press '+'or '-' on the Apple Remote to cycle through the display resolutions.
Pause a couple of seconds after each press for the Apple TV to accept your selection.
When Apple TV reaches an acceptable display resolution and “If you can see the Apple logo, select OK” appears on your TV screen, press 'select' .
If that doesn't help, I fear the Apple TV is defective.

First, make sure your TV is tuned to display the correct input signal. Most TVs have several inputs (multiple HDMIs, cable connections, RCA etc) so double-check that you're using the correct one - HDMI1, HDMI2 or whatever is written next to the port.
I assume that you have a mini-Displayport to HDMI adaptor? If you open displays preferences, first tick the box that says "show display preferences in menu bar" then locate the menu and click Detect Displays. See if that helps.

  • I used an HDMI cable to connect my MacBook Pro and my TV, however, my computer won't recognize that my TV is connected. What do I need to do to be able to watch a movie from my Mac on my TV screen?

My Macbook doesn't have an HDMI port, so I bought a converter. So I now I have my HDMI connected to my Mac and my TV. The problem is, I can't figure out how to make my computer screen show up on my TV. Do I need to download different software or update something? Or is it as easy as changing a setting?
When I go to my display settings, my computer screen shows up as an option, but my TV does not. I don't think my computer is reading it is connected. Please help me.
I will openly admit that I don't know very much about computers, so if you can help me, please break your explaination down for me. This is the info for my Mac:
    I have a Macbook Pro 13-inch,
    Mid 2010 OS X
    Version 10.9.3
Processor 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Memory 4GB 1067 MHz DDR3
    Graphics NVIDIA GeForce 320M 256MB

I am assuming that you are using a Mini Display to HDMI converter and then a HDMI cable.
Have you opened System Preferences>Displays and selected Detect Displays?
    Ciao.
