Hdmi cable no longer functions
I have a 27" iMac, under Lion my hdmi cable no longer functions. I have a 27" iMac. Any ideas on how to fix this?

It looks like you have already done most of the steps in the article but one that would be especially relevant would be resetting the resolution.
Start by resetting the Mac's parameter RAM. If the display does not come up, was previously set to an unsupported resolution, and still results in no video:
Start up in Safe Mode.
From the Apple () menu, choose System Preferences.
Choose Displays from the View menu to open the preferences pane.
Select any resolution and refresh rate that your display supports.
Restart your computer
If this does not result in your display working with your MacBook Pro, I would suggest isolating your issue by trying the MacBook Pro and cable with a different HDMI display.

Anyway, with the introduction of ios 8.x, apple stopped supporting older a/v cables. You need to get the latest a/v cable with the correct firmware. There is a little chip in the a/v cable. go to the apple store. Buy a new cable. Verify the cable works in the store.

Restore to factory settings by loading the latest version of ios that your machine will support:
Do a full backup of your device. Twice is best -- cloud and computer.

Since upgrading the IOS 8 on my IPad 2 I can longer get a full screen on my TV when connected with an HDMI cable. anything I should change in my settings? Right now my iPad is mirrored on the TV with a black box all around the edge
I have reached the same conclusion in the mean time. I have done a bit of investgation in to other grahics cards and am seeing some that show SPDIF connections from the card to the mother board. I was not familar with SPDIF but it did a little bit of sluething. It is of course a digitally enconded voice. I am guessing that in that case the mother board ( assuming it supports this hardware option) would use this output and be able to translate that digital audio to its other audio outputs. That is a lot of guessing of course. I think my "solution" might be a whole new desktop - a rather drastic course of action! I was in the proceess of getting ready to upgrade this machine anyway with a new graphics card (which I will now return), go to Win 7, and maybe even a new digital TV reciever, and I don't want to throw good money after bad anyway.

When using HDMI to HDMI cable the Master Sound Control is locked.

There are two ways to 'solve' this.
Alter the volume before sending the digital signal down the HDMI connection, this means the signal is no longer exactly as it was originally. Apple's current (apparent) view is that this should be done at the end i.e. playback device not at the originating (Mac) end so as to minimise the number of devices making changes to the signal. Basically 'volume' is the amplitude of a an analogue wave form. (Where else do you think the term 'amp' comes from.)
Not to alter the volume of the signal at the Mac end but instead to send a signal down the HDMI cable to tell the end i.e. playback device to alter the volume, this uses a standard called CEC (Consumer Electronics Control), unfortunately at the moment no Macs support this standard - it has to be supported at a hardware level so a simple Apple software upgrade to implement this is not possible. I have previously logged an official enhancement request for this with Apple - the more people who do this the more likely it is to be added, since now all Macs include HDMI it might happen at some point.

Hi i upgraded from lion to mountain lion to day on my mini mac,Since the upgrade i am no longer getting sound through my HDMI cable which was working fine on lion Checked the midi audio settings and system preferences to out on HDMi nothing no sound whats so ever.Any one any ideas?
I use a samsung TV for my monitor via HDMI.Tried all the system Audi setting nothing .Head phone and internal speakers are fine.Similar issue; Audio was working fine on Lion, now not on Mountain Lion. Have a Macbook Pro early 2011 with AMD Radeon HD 6750M, connected by thunderbolt through a Lacie LBD to a mini-displayport to HDMI adapter (n.b. same problem when not going through the LBD) to a Pioneer VSX 521 AV receiver. For me when I go into audio Midi settings all the volume sliders for the displayport device are greyed out and at zero. But when I click 'configure speakers', it's able to send out the test signals to each speaker. Part of the problem could be that I'm not getting the option to put out 6channel sound, only 2 or 8 channel. Since my system is Dolby 5.1, and I only have 6 speakers, I would have expected the 6ch option to be available. But I imagine there's more to it than that. Elsewhere someone has suggested playing with Remote Interactive over HD on an Onkyo device; I'll see if there's something similar on the Pioneer that can be changed. Any other suggestions welcome.

Dr. Bott Mini DisplayPort to HDMI cable doesn't work.
I'm trying to connect my MacBook (mid 2010) with my tv and I can't get it working properly. I have the HDMI cable, and the mini display port to the HDMI cable. When I connect the computer to the tv, the computer screen turns light blue like it is about to synchronize, but the tv screen remains black. After a moment, 2 boxes appear on my tv screen. One says "HDMI1: and the other "no signal detected".
I've tried with "detect displays", I've tried connecting to all the HDMI ports I have on my TV, I've tried basically everything but it still doesn't work.

My TV is a fairly new Samsung, and everything else is working fine, I don't know why this won't function. It's frustrating me.
Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.When I have this problem, it is because my Macbook Pro is using "Integrated" graphics vs the "Descrete" graphics. I control this via the gfxCardStatus menubar utility.
You could also try reseting the smc controller

I will be using a HDMI cable to connect an Apple TV box and a Comcast cable TV box to my TV. My TV has only one HDMI port.
To do this I will need a 2x1 HDMI splitter or a 2x1 HDMI auto switch (preferred).
?Is there any Apple TV HDMI port voltage?
When using a HDMI auto switch to connect two devices to a HDMI TV, the
Auto switch cable box only works for components that do not output continuous voltage over HDMI port when turned off.

I'm trying to find out if I can hook up my iPod touch 4th gen. iOS 5.0.1 to my HDTV with an HDMI cable and have it mirror what I do on the iPod Touch like mirroring videos for example. I need to find out and if so, how?
You can only output content to your TV if the App you are using supports the TV Out functionality. Mirroring is not supported on the iPod Touch.
If you still want to output content from your iPod to your TV, make sure you have the right cables as described here.

HDMI monitor no longer working after 10.9.3
While rebooting/upgrading to 10.9.3 the external HDMI monitor connected to my macbook pro '13
started "flashing" as in "detecting the display" similar to when you plug in the hdmi cable with the system running.
I'm not able to do anything unless I unplug the HDMI since it keeps retrying to "detect the display".
If I open the "display" in the settings panel I see between a "flash" and another that the monitor is detected but looks like it keeps "swiching on/off"
checked the monitor with another laptop and everything works, so the problem seems to be related to the 10.9.3 upgradefrom the logs

After a recent iTunes update attempt iTunes no longer functions and the airport extreme base station is not accessable on our computer. We still have wifi but cannot access the base station software.
Thanks for the reply. I appreciate the response. I tried that approach this evening and it didn't work for me. (Technically it worked for me, when I was hardwired into my base station, but would not work for me wirelessly, which is my main issue.)
Again, using the approach you recommended works only if I have my ethernet cable attached to the LAN port so my computer is communicating directly to the base station through the hard wire. I am able to scan for my base station and make setting adjustments normally this way too.
As soon as I disconnect from the LAN port and try to go wireless is where I run into problems. The Base Station's wireless network I created is available to choose in the top right corner of the monitor with all of the other available wireless devices/networks -- but the network I created does not have access to the internet. I am also unable to configure my Base Station wirelessly. When my Airport Utility tries to scan for the Base Station and Network, it cannot find any Apple Wireless Device. It's like the Wireless Network in my base station is not sending out a signal.
Is there a way to resolve this issue? -
Using Mini DisplayPort to HDMI cable
Using a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Cable from a 2010 MacBook Air is playing up, making it practically unusable. Essentially what happens is that when connecting a television set using a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Cable the picture is perfect but no longer than 30 seconds at a time before the picture 'goes to sleep'. Is there a setting I need to change? There must be a setting that I can change which I haven't worked out yet. Thanks in advance for your help

ATI 5770 1GB Video Card For Mac Pro dvi hdmi cable
I am sending video signal over a 50FT HDMI To DVI from my Mac Pro (3,1) via ATI 5770 1GB Video Card For Mac Pro (5.0 GT/s) (181062917108) and I cannot get a constant signal to my TV. The signal stays on for a few seconds or several hours or my TV (Samsung) says there is no signal or I get just a gray static screen.
I never had a problem before with my previous video card the 512MB nVidia GeForce 8800GT with a 25ft long cable. Hi I have a hp hdx 16t laptop, hooked it up to philips 52 inch LED tv via an hdmi cable and get video on tv but no audio. Only sound from laptop, My tv is set to computer hdmi 1 and all drivers up tp date. I have goolged numerous solutions and none have worked. If anybody has the time, a solution would be just great.. jd.If you have the the video drivers installed for your notebook's chipset and the discrete video module then you should see something similar to the folowing image. This is on my loaner HP Pavilion dv7-4180ea. When I connect the notebook to my Philips HDTV the operating system switches to HDMI audio after I direct the video to the TV with the function keys on the notebook.

I'm using one that is thicker than what I usually use and when I hooked it up (I have a Belkin HDMI adapter), my computer would no longer go into sleep mode as it usually does. I rebooted the computer and the sleep mode works fine now when it's not hooked up the the monitor, but I'm wondering if the type of cable or thickness matters to the performance of the computer or if it can cause any other glitches?
not as far as I know. Maybe shielding, but from what I understand, it either works or it doesn't, that goes for expensive or cheap HDMI cables. Maybe the Belkin HDMI adapter doesn't support sleep mode. Oh well, not a deal-breaker, hopefully. Maybe you got a bum cable? Maybe you have to mess around with your display options?

Users have multiple AFP connections on server?
Our server is running 10.6.7 and in Server Admin under AFP connection we are noticing users with multiple connections to server. The settings are enabled to "disconnect users after they are idle" for 60 minutes and also "allow to sleep for 4 hours"
