Hdmi computer to TV

I am trying to hook up my computer to TV. I get nothing. When I went in to best buy they hooked up and no problem. I think it is a setting on the TV but I am not sure. Computer is a gateway m-7334U Vista home premium 32 bit os. TV is insignia model NS-LCD42hd-09. Any help will be appreciated

Why? This thread, http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=953059&page=6 for example on page 5 or 6 or something lists several people with that model discussing that it does work and how they calibrated it to look better. Several list that they use vga to connect to computers.

  • My TV has a combined HDMI/DVI slot, and says I can't connect my TV and Mac. Is there anything I can buy to fix this?

I have been looking all over the net to see if there was something that I could buy to troubleshoot this problem, and I've had no luck with this. I'm running OSX on my 2007 iMac, and know what I would need to get to connect my computer to my TV. The only thing is, the TV has a combined HDMI/DVI. I looked on Samsungs website, and it said that because of this, I can't connect the 2. "
Many of Samsung's 2005 and 2006 model TVs have a combined HDMI/DVI input jack. You cannot use the combined HDMI/DVI jack to connect your 2005 or 2006 model Samsung TV to your computer's DVI video output jack. If your Samsung TV has an HDMI only jack, you cannot use the HDMI jack to connect your Samsung TV to your computer's DVI video output jack. Samsung's 2005 and 2006 TVs do not support DVI to HDMI computer video connections."
I am at a complete loss right now and have a feeling that there is nothing I can do about it. I do have the Roku connected to my TV, and bc I don't have the HDMI spot, we have to use the RGB slots to connect it. The Roku does have a HDMI slot to connect it to a TV with one, and even thought that maybe I could connect something to that to connect my computer to my TV. I've pretty much decided that if I can't get an answer in the Mac community, then there isn't going to be a way for me to connect the two. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks in advance!  - Patrick

You tv probably has 2 seperate inputs, DVI and HDMI. You will need one these adapters if you want to connect via HDMI however on a machine as old as yours neither the  HDMI or DVI will only output video, not audio.

  • Macbook Pro - Retina not recognizing HDMI

My third external monitor has a VGA and DVI port. I have a hdmi (computer) to dvi (monitor) cable that connects flawlessly on my old lenovo. Why might my new MBP - Retina not be registering or recognizing my third external via hdmi (it doesn't recognize alone either)?.
    Thanks!

Just wondering if you ever found a solution.  My mbp retina is not finding my iLok 1.  No green light. Max 5 won't authorize.

  • Can you set up an apple tv without a tv?

I want to use an Apple TV to stream audio to my "high end" stereo. I have read a lot about easy this is and how good the quality is. But, everything
I read about Apple TV says it requires an HDMI connection to a TV so you can set it up. I don't a have a TV near my stereo so I have a problem. I can set up
the Apple TV with my TV in another room, but will I lose the programming when I unplug it to move it to the stereo room. Or is there a way to hook it up
to the Apple TV with an IOS device or my Macbook Air so I can set it up without being connected to a TV?

Good info. I had no idea that headphone jacks were also mini-optical - even on MacBooks. Wasn't paying attention. An airport express would have been the best choice, but since I have the Apple TV already, getting an HDMI computer monitor (like a Samsung for $139) so I can set up the Apple TV may be the answer versus spending $100 for an AirportExpress and having a superfluous Apple TV.
    Thanks for your help.

    Some things I would check.
    1. Enough gap if hung on wall.
    2. If in cabinet make sure sufficient room for air flow.
    3. Not familiar with Hathway but if it is cable or satellite have them come and make sure it is earth grounded.
    4. Check settings and make sure it is not on Dynamic or some other Torch Mode as this can cause over heat.(Had a  plasma  TV panel go out in 22 months later found out that this caused short life).
    5. Make sure it is not in front of a window where direct sunlight comes in since heat will kill TV.
    6. Keep ventilation holes in TV clean.
    7. Make sure you are using a surge protector.
As you can see most causes of Motherboards are caused from heat. It can be other things like a loose connection but TV repair company should have checked this.

How do I connect my computer to my TV as a second moniter. I have a HP 610-1130a touch screen running windows 7.
It has 2 HDMI in ports.

Here are the specs for your HP TouchSmart 610-1130a Desktop Computer. You are correct in stating that it has 2 HDMI inputs... these inputs are used for connecting devices like XBox, PS3, DVD payer, Blu-Ray player, etc., so that you can watch/play them on your computer screen. Your computer, in fact, doesn't have a video output of any kind (VGA, DVI, HDMI, DisplayPort, etc.). You will need to purchase a USB-to-video adapter such as the EVGA UV Plus+ UV39 to use your TV as a monitor.
Please note that if you wish to "extend" your Windows "desktop" to your TV, you will need to disable the touchscreen as issues controlling the cursor will occur. If you wish to "copy" or "duplicate" the image on your computer to the TV, the touchscreen should function as normal.

Can anyone help me connect my Macbook Air to a SAMSUNG TV.  When I follow the basic instructions (Thunderbolt to HDMI connection) the screen on my computer goes grey and an error message appears inviting me to press any button to restart the Macbook.  When I do this nothing happens.  Only when I disconnect the computer from the TV does the Macbook allow me to login. The TV does not receive any signal from the Macbook even though I know the HDI port works fine.  Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?  Do I need to enable something on the Macbook?

    An update...
I downloaded Apple's (rather large!) list of software updates today, and I was finally able to recognize my iPod again. I did a restore using the iPod updater from 06-2006, and all seemed to work OK. (I'm afraid to try the new one again!)
Then I tried to re-load my music library from iTunes, and got stuck. It froze up after a while and wouldn't go any further.
When I disconnected my iPod from my computer, I find 2 podcasts and nothing else, though iTunes told me it had transferred 600+ songs. Those 2 podcasts do play fine, and the basic iPod software all seems to be intact.
So -- anyone get through this connection problem and have any ideas to share??

  • I have an Apple MacBook Pro with 2 USB ports and a MiniDisplay Port. I also have an HDTV with a HDMI port. How can I use the TV as a display without any tethering wires between my computer and the TV?

I have an Apple MacBook Pro with 2 USB ports and a MiniDisplay Port. I also have an HDTV with a HDMI port. How can I use the TV as a display without any tethering wires between my computer and the TV? I have a MiniDisplay Port to VGA adapter, but there are two issues with it: The new display doesn't have a VGA port, and even if it did, I wouldn't want to have my mac constantly attached to the display by a cable. I was looking for a way to use the TV as a display without any wires. Is there some type of bluetooth setup I could use? Please let me know if you have any suggestions.

As I wrote above, I think you should look into the Apple TV yourself. The best place to find information about what it can and can't do and to ask your own specific questions is probably in the Apple TV forum, here:

  • I used an HDMI cable to connect my MacBook Pro and my TV, however, my computer won't recognize that my TV is connected. What do I need to do to be able to watch a movie from my Mac on my TV screen?

My Macbook doesn't have an HDMI port, so I bought a converter. So I now I have my HDMI connected to my Mac and my TV. The problem is, I can't figure out how to make my computer screen show up on my TV. Do I need to download different software or update something? Or is it as easy as changing a setting?
When I go to my display settings, my computer screen shows up as an option, but my TV does not. I don't think my computer is reading it is connected. Please help me.
I will openly admit that I don't know very much about computers, so if you can help me, please break your explaination down for me. This is the info for my Mac:
    I have a Macbook Pro 13-inch,
    Mid 2010 OS X
    Version 10.9.3
Processor 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Memory 4GB 1067 MHz DDR3
    Graphics NVIDIA GeForce 320M 256MB

I am assuming that you are using a Mini Display to HDMI converter and then a HDMI cable.
Have you opened System Preferences>Displays and selected Detect Displays?
    Ciao.

  • I have a Samsung HD TV and I purchased a Mini Display port to HDMI Adapter today. For some strange reason I get no display on my HD tv. I even tried switching a few HDMI cables and nothing popped up. I made sure my computer was updated. Help pls

I have a Samsung HD TV and I purchased a Mini Display port to HDMI Adapter today. For some strange reason I get no display on my HD tv. I even tried switching a few HDMI cables and nothing popped up. I made sure my computer performed all software updates, and I even tried calling Apple Support. They just told me to keep trying different hdmi cables and see if anything pops up. Does anybody know what the problem is? My HDMI cable is from "rocketfish" also my display port is too.

You may have the screen refresh rate set higher than the TV is generally able to track reliably. It may be able to get there most times, but occasionally loses sync because it is out of its nominal range.
I suggest you sit down with the manual for the TV and find out what resolutions at what refresh rates it intends to support through VGA, and make sure your screen settings are near (or below) those limits.

  • My macbook pro no longer connects to my tv through HDMI my computer screen flashes blue but my tv does nothing! could someone please help!!

    pretty pretty please!!

    Hello ,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
Please follow the steps below to troubleshoot having no display on the external display.
No video or no signal, image distortion, "snow," or flickering
    Check connections
When using an external display be sure to check the following:
If you're using an Apple notebook, confirm the AC power cable or adapter is securely connected to the computer and the cable providing power to the display is also secure. It is always good to have your notebook connected to AC power when an external display is in use.
Confirm display adapters are fully seated in their respective connections and that they are supported models and for the computer and display. Refer to these articles to assist you with adapter compatibility and further configuration information:
    Monitor and Display Adapter Table
About Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapters
Apple Mini DisplayPort adapters: Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
Thunderbolt ports and displays: Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
Remove all display cable extenders, KVM switches, or other like devices and retest to determine if the issue is resolved.
Try unplugging the video adapter or cable and then plug it back in.
If more than one video adapter is in use (or "daisy-chained"), troubleshoot by using only one adapter.
Example: A mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter connected to a DVI to HDMI adapter is an unsupported configuration because there is a series of adapters in use.
If available, try using a different display and or adapter (or use a different connector by using DVI instead of VGA, for instance).
    Reset the system
You can reset the Mac's parameter RAM and SMC.
    Reset the resolution
Start by resetting the Mac's parameter RAM. If the display does not come up, was previously set to an unsupported resolution, and still results in no video:
    Start up in Safe Mode.
From the Apple () menu, choose System Preferences.
Choose Displays from the View menu to open the preferences pane.
Select any resolution and refresh rate that your display supports.
    Restart your computer.

    Take care,

I had been streaming tv with my MacBookPro 10.7.5 for several years using a cord from the mini port to the HDMI plug on the TV. Suddenly it stopped working. My computer otherwise works fine but there is my computer screen image is no longer being transmitted to the tv. The tv is black. I have it on the correct input.
I tried restarting the computer with the cord attached. Thanks in advance.

Test the cord on another external display or test with another cord.
