HDMI connection issues

I have a HP Pavilion Entertainment PC running windows 7. I have used the HDMI port to connect to my TV innumerable times but for some reason it randomly stopped working. Now when I connect the HDMI cable into the computer the TV will sometimes say connecting to signal but it rarely does and usually just says no signal. The laptop itself makes a noise when I plug the cable in and the screen goes black despite the fact that I have it set to "duplicate" screens. I have read countless discussions of people having this same problem and NONE of them have been resolved. I'm not suprised HP. But could you try?

Hi,
Please post the exact HP product number for your PC.
What operating system and you using?
What video card is in your PC?
Have you tried a different HDMI card?

  • You View and Sony Bravia HDMI connection issues

For what it is worth I though I would post a solution that has worked which solved compatability issues between some Sony Bravia TV's and YouView boxes.
I have used a YouView box with no problem via a SCART on an old TV
I invested in a Sony Bravia - installed today by John Lewis
The YouView was only recognised by the Bravia if it was switched on by the power switch - once on it bringing it out of standby via the remote and selecting the input on the Bravia would only lead to a Blank Screen on the Sony (it would also not swiitch automatically to the input the YouView was on).
Long discussion with Sony followed and Sony said "most" of their TV's would recognise YouView via HDMI - but some had "unexplained" compatability issues - when asked what I should do the Sony man said if this was important I should ask John Lewis to change the set.......
Helpful discussion with John Lewis support - I did not want to change the set and JL suggeted connecting the YouView to the Sony HDMI via an HDMI "switch" box - only connecting the YouView to the switch box. (It seems that the Sony will recognise the switch - but not the YouView directly....)
Bought a Switch from Maplin (HSW0501BN) - connected YouView to the switch and the switch to Sony Bravia TV via HDMI - and it works brilliantly.....
Turning the YouView on/off via the remote from standby changes the input source to the YouView on the Sony - and it has always been recognise by the Sony - no more blank screens.
A pain in the neck for a new TV - clearly a problem with some Sony Bravia TV's and YouView - it would be nice if both YouView (Humax) and Sony could talk together to fix it....
But for now it seems the intermediate switch gets over the issue.
I thought this was worth sharing in case anyone else has the same issue - I cannot say it will work for every-one - but it worked for me - thanks to John Lewis support.............
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi
    It's a SONY KD-55X-8505BBU  --  It's the "lo-spec" 4K model and works brilliantly.
The SONY man said "most" of their TV's work with YouView HDMI - but they have had some instances of incompatability and could do nothing about it.............
The YouView worked with the SONY - but it needed to be switched on and off for the HDMI to recognise it - I temporarily ran it through the SCART - which worked OK (to which the SONY man asked why I was concerned if it worked with a SCART!!!)
The advice from John Lewis was great - just connected the YouView HDMI to a HDMI switch box - and connected the swirch box to the SONY - it all works fine now.
It just seems that SONY are not aware (or are not prepared to tell you) the solution - and only higher level John Lewis staff are aware of this (the John Lewis installer was stumped).
Not sure anyone else will have the problem (although I have seen several reports of this on the web) - and I am happy with the solution - just wish the (paid for) installers knew - and that SONY knew/or were prepared to tell you (guess they did not want to be asked for the price of the HDMI to cure the "incompatability" problem).
I was so amazed at the poor response from SONY and I asked them to confirm that the call was recorded and took the recording number - needless to say John Lewis was not impressed with Sony telling me that the only solution was to send the set back to John Lewis  --  Sony have suffered a big drop in my estimation - although the TV is brilliant......

  • MINI DVI to HDMI Connection Issue

I have a July 2009 white macbook 2.13 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Mac OSX 10.5.8.
I have been trying to connect my laptop to a Sanyo 42in HDTV and a VIZIO 47in with no success. I purchased two different mini-DVI to HDMI cables(both with great reviews) and neither has worked. My laptop does pick up the signal from the TV and the TV does notice something has been picked up because it ocassionally flashes or says invlaid format. I have tried several different screen resolutions and have "Mirroring ON".
Any suggestions on what I can try to make this work?
I would really appreciate any help .. THANK YOU!

  • MBPro 13 retina: Display issue ater HDMI connection

    Hi,
I'm experiencing problems after HDMI connection to the TV.
After I wake my computer from sleep, the half of the screen shows garbage and I have to restart my computer.
    Anyone with this issue?

The 2.0 update will be available for you via the
    Apple > Software update
I do believe it is directly applicable to the 13" Retina line.

  • My Thunderbolt to HDMI connection isn't working anymore.

I've had my MacBook Pro for about a year now (2.4 GHz i5), and I've been using a Thunderbolt to HDMI adaptor to connect to my Sharp 32" LCD with no problems since I bought it...until this week when I updated all my software/OS.  Now, I can connect, the displays prefs see the monitor, but all I get is black.  No sound either...even though the sound prefs recognize the HDMI connection.
I know the problem isn't the cable.  It used to work, and it still actually connects this same laptop to my projector...but it won't display on my TV anymore. I even get sound on my projector.  It works like my TV used to.  The problem started with the update, so I want to know what changed...and when Apple plans on fixing it.  These are not cheap computers...I am kind of embarassed that I have to use my gf's $350 Acer to play Netflix on our TV when I have this multimedia monster gathering dust.
This problem is extremely frustrating, and I've been doing some research on it.  It seems like quite the problem for a lot of people!  There are multiple unresolved discussions on here about it (some of them over 40 pages long!) and I can't really believe Apple isn't dealing with this.  It's been years now since this started happening, I guess.
We're mac users...we need multiple displays, and we need this stuff to keep working when we update!  That's why we've made Apple into the richest corporation in the world.  Step up superstars...fix this!
Again (just to be clear) I know the problem isn't the cable, so don't tell me to go get a different one, or that it's the issue.  Me and my gf basically wore out Netflix with this very laptop and cable up until this week, and I've never had an issue with it..ever, until this update (to OS 10.7.5).  Everything is in good shape, and if the laptop/computer is still feeding to my projector just fine...there's something else going on here, and I think a lot of people would love to know what it is.  I am not the only person this is happening to, and it's been years since people have been begging Apple to fix this!
I hope that Apple looks into this and puts these discussions to rest.  There are a lot of them!  Do a search!  The "More Like This" box on the right here is FULL of very similar UNRESOLVED discussions.  This should be a priority.  You've all made enough money off us...now make your stuff work like it's supposed to and close these threads!

No, I am a media professional who uses his MacBook Pro to connect to external monitors, and needs to continue to do so.  I don't want Apple TV.  I want my laptop to work again, like it's supposed to.  Like it used to.
I have a demonstration this week at work that requires me to plug into an LCD screen and I am hoping to have this resolved by then.  I am trying to convince my department to buy a Retina Mac and thousands of dollars worth of video software for live shows, and if I can't make it work, then I can't exactly convince them (or myself) to buy what I have been researching.
Again, I don't want wireless video or Apple TV.  I don't want to buy any more stuff.  I want to know why my Thunderbolt to HDMI cable stopped working after my update, and how to fix it...preferably before this meeting.

  • HDMI connection no longer works after Windows 8 download

    Hello,
I have a HP Touchsmart tm2t Notebook and was using an HDMI cord to connect to a television since I bought the computer in 2010. A few months back, I downloaded Windows 8 and ever since then, the HDMI connection to the TV no longer works. I've tried the troubleshooting steps that I could find and nothing seems to work. Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance!

  • MacBook Pro does not sense external monitor (Panasonic HDTV in my case) via thunderbolt-HDMI connection...Is update 10.8.3 helping anyone?

My MacBook Pro (newest model in 2013 so far) does not sense external monitor (Panasonic HDTV in my case) via thunderbolt-HDMI connection...Is update 10.8.3 helping anyone else who has this issue? I returned my multiple HDMI adapters after figuring out it had to be an Apple issue n not the adapters so I can't check it myself now.
    Thanks!

I have late 2012 MBP 13" and connect to my Panasonic Plasma correctly.
But using the same cable, can't connect to an LG 47LM6200, the MBP detects the TV, the screen blinks blue, but the TV shows "no sinal detected" message.

I would suggest you visit an Apple dealer, preferably an Apple Store if there's one in your city, and ask for assistance in determining what you need. The questions and issues you bring up are rather complex to address in a technical support forum and would be better addressed in person where you and the salesperson can ask questions back and forth to arrive at the optimal setup.

  • HDMI CONNECTION

I just purchased a mac mini. Problem that I am having is that I am getting an image through the HDMI connection. I use a LCD tv as a monitor with a HDMI imput. It will work through the thunderbolt port with my mini display to vga adapter. Do I have to buy a new adapter to fix the issue. I assumed that this would work through the port with no issues.
Can someone help me on this?

I'm sorry, I mistyped... I do have a HDMI cable, and I connected it to my mac mini before turning it on for the first time and making sure that my LCD TV was on the right input and I did not get a signal at all. I have recently ordered a mini display to HDMI connector to to use with the thunderbolt port. It would not work with the HDMI cable connected directly to the computer and the tv.
I thought that Apple and Intel had corrected this problem.

  • My TV does not have an HDMI connect

Are there converters available that would allow me to connect an AppleTV to an older TV without an HDMI connection?

There are hardware converters that will convert HDMI to various other types of output, however there are some issues with doing so that you should be aware of.
    HDCP
HDCP compliant converters will not allow you to watch HDCP protected content such as that from the iTunes Store. Non compliant converters exist but we cannot discuss them under the Terms of Use for these communities.
    Resolution and aspect ratio
I'm not aware of any converters that will scale the output from the Apple TV, any TV or projector which is used will need to be widescreen and support resolutions of 720p.

  • DVI HDMI connections

Is it possible to have both the DVI and HDMI connected at the same time?       If I connect both the desktop will show but no icons. If I disconnect one of the connections then I get the icons to show
    Thanks
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Source Control - Selects the video input signal.
DVI Selects DVI as the video input signal.
HDMI Selects HDMI as the video input signal.
VGA Selects VGA as the video input signal.
Default Source - Selects the default or primary video input signal when the monitor is connected to two active and valid video sources. The monitor will automatically determine the video format.
Auto Switch Source - Turns the system's automatic video signal input to On or Off.
"Auto Switch Source" is designed to be used when you have multiple sources connected to the monitor and wish to use one of them at a time. Example... you connect a HDTV tuner to HDMI and a computer to DVI. Turn on the computer and the monitor displays the computer output. Turn off the computer and turn on the HDTV tuner and the monitor automatically adjusts and display the tuner output.
If both sources are on the "Default Source" option selects which input to display based on its setting.
"Source Control" is for manually selecting a source.

  • Sony RPLCD TV not accepting HDMI connection from AppleTV

I have a rear projection LCD Sony KDF-55wf655 TV and have had it for years. I had my ATV hooked up to the TV through an HDMI switch in my AV closet. All was good, everything worked perfectly. I then decided to move my components out of the closet and under the TV. So now I have everything connected, just close to the TV. I cannot get the Sony TV to display the output from the ATV over HDMI. I connect the ATV via component and it works great. I take the ATV upstairs to my plasma and HDMI works great. I tried resetting the ATV to factory settings, didn't work. I tried resetting the Sony TV, didn't work. I tried unplugging and replugging everything in every order, didn't work. I'm not sure what else to do, but it seems it's something in the Sony TV not allowing the HDMI connection now...but why? What can I try? I'm desperate.

Anyone have any ideas I can try? Still would love to get HDMI working from my appletv on this one set. My Panasonic plasma has no issues playing HDMI from my ATV.

  • Intermittent "HDCP isn't supported by your HDMI connection" message

I downloaded a movie with the new Apple TV 2.0, and every once in a while, the screen will go black with a message stating that "HDCP isn't supported by your HDMI connection. This content requires HDCP for playback. Use the component video connection to watch this content.". Not only is this not the case, but it happens very happenstance.
Is this happening to anyone else? If not, does anyone have any ideas as to why, or better yet, to solve it?
On another note- the fact that you can use the Apple TV for AirTunes now, freaking rocks.

I found this on Denon site:
    http://ca.denon.com/2082.asp
Unfortunately, it basically says that it is not the receiver's fault (what a surprise!)
    Quote:
"This is not a fault of the receiver. Recently set top box manufacturers have become aware of this issue. It has been found that the U-code information appears to be the problem which is part of Annex A of the repeater conformity specifications of the HDMI protocol. Some set top receiver manufacturers have already implemented firmware changes to their units while others are in the process of updating their units. If a set top receiver being used is having problems passing HDMI video signal through an A/V receiver, contact the manufacturer of the set top receiver to see if an update is available."
So I'm taking this to mean that my receiver is very picky about the HDMI protocol, and the ATV isn't quite conforming to it. Maybe other brands of receivers are passing the signal?
I suspect I probably won't have much choice for now but to either connect the ATV to the Denon using component cables and an optical cable for 5.1, or use HMDI directly to the TV for video and an optical cable for 5.1 audio.

  • HDMI Signal Issue

I don't understand why these issues keep recurring?
After the the 12/1 handshake resolution i figured that the Samsung / Motorola HDMI issues were resolved but now I cannot get a signal with the HDMI connection and have to use component connection. And even with the component connection everytime I turn on the TV I have to change the video settings from 4:3 480p to 1080i each time.
Can this be an issue with the cable wire? the stb? or handshake? either way it is very frustrating.
Please help!!!!!!!. I love the service but I only switched over in October and I have been through (1) HD DVR box already and now this issue.

    Hey Retiredme,
My Samsung is 5 years old it is the Model HLP6163W. I checked the Samsung website but at this time there are no updates.
The strange thing is that after the 12/1 firware update blew out my 1st HD DVR it was working fine with the HDMI cables with the exception that I had to reset my video settings from 720p to 1080i.
Then a little over a week ago while the TV was on the screen just went blank and I was unable to get a signal, I then replaced the HDMI cables, which worked for 5 minutes then I got no signal again. I then changed out the HDMI to the component cables. It works but now everytime I power up the TV I have to change the video settings from 480p to 1080i. And I also cannot use my surround sound due to the component cables take up the left & right audio inputs and the optical connection does not work on either the stb or the Yamaha reciever.
Oh the joy of electronics. Thanks for letting me ramble.
