HDMI Extender/No Signal

I've had an MSI HD 7770 since 11/2012 working just fine over 2 hdmi extenders from my basement to my living room. One goes to my TV the other to a monitor.
Yesterday they stopped working.
Video card works fine when hooked to a monitor directly using just one hdmi cable.
Video card still detects both my TV and Monitor in Catalyst but both display no signal.
Xbox and Bluray player works fine over extender
Right now I removed the card and am able to use the onboard graphics card over the extender
Any ideas? Support says they will test the card using one local monitor and it will test fine that way so they will send it back to me.
Thanks for any help
Rick

Just incase anyone else has this issue I thought I'd let you know that I found a work around
I ended up getting this to work by buying one of these:
hxxp://www.ebay.com/itm/Mini-HDMI-Surge-Protector-Protection-Against-ESD-Power-Surge-5V-Power-Booster-/310823624915?pt=US_Surge_Protectors_Power_Strips&hash=item485e8820d3
It only works when I hook up a USB cable to provide extra power to the HDMI signal.
Still not sure why it worked for 2 years and quit all of a sudden.

  • I have an airport extreme and express, if I use the extreme as a base station connected to my old router can I use the express to extend the signal while also creating a new network that only I can use?

I have an airport extreme and express, if I use the extreme as a base station connected to my old router can I use the express to extend the signal while also creating a new network that only I can use? Essentially having two wifi connection off the same network? If so how do I set this up?

Extending using a wireless connection always results in a performance compromise.
If the Express is going to extend using a wireless connection, then the Express will need to be located about half way between the AirPort Extreme and the general area where you need more wireless coverage. The more that you have line-of-sight between the Extreme and Express, the better the network will operate.
Remember......the Express can only "extend" the quality and signal speed that it receives, so it needs to be located where it can get a very good signal from the Extreme. Although Apple cleverly uses the term "extend", a more accurate term for the Express would be "repeater".
If the Express will extend by connecting to the Extreme using a permanent, wired Ethernet cable connection......highly recommended for best performance.....then the Express can be located exactly where you need more wireless coverage. There is no signal loss at all through the Ethernet cable, so the Express gets a full speed signal no matter where it might be located.
Post back to let us know which way to you want to go.

  • Can my Airport Express be used to extend the signal for an iPad2

I am using a Linksys wired router as the beginning of my home network. There is an ethernet cable running from it through a wall to the Xbox 360 and an Airport Express serving as the base for the wireless network. I have an iBook on the other side of the wall and about 10 feet and an iMac about 20 feet with one wall in between. These two have some fluctuation in their signal but only between 4 bars and 3. I just got an iPad 2 and it is causing me grief because it struggles to maintain a connection just another 10 feet from the iBook. If I put it next to the iMac when it has full 4 bars the iPad gets maybe 2. The iPad has full bars if next to the router. That kind of defeats the purpose of buying an iPad. So, my question is how to rearrange the network so the iPad is happy in the living room where I mostly use it. I had considered moving the iMac and using it as a base station to free the Airport Express for other duty but where I want to move it is further away from the living room. Right now the Airport is wired to the router. Is this necessary for it to be a part of the network? I know I can use it to get music from iTunes to speakers but would that placement also work as a wireless extender? Would just buying another router for the Xbox location and putting the Airport there also be a better solution?

ladybastet, let's clean up some terminology. You should designate only one router for your network. At present that is the Linksys. Your wireless access point is the Express, and it gets its network connection from the Linksys. Is that correct?
If I put it next to the iMac when it has full 4 bars the iPad gets maybe 2. The iPad has full bars if next to the router.
Now that you know your Linksys is the router, is the above correct? Unless the Linksys is also a wireless access point, the iPad's proximity to it will not matter. Only its proximity to the device creating the wireless network is a factor. In your case, I believe that is the Express.
There is an ethernet cable running from it through a wall to the Xbox 360 and an Airport Express serving as the base for the wireless network.
I'm not sure I understand. Is one Ethernet cable going to two places? What is it connected to, precisely?
Right now the Airport is wired to the router. Is this necessary for it to be a part of the network?
In the case of a wired router, yes.
I'm wondering if you have things configured properly, particularly if you have configured the iMac to share its network connection over AirPort. I'm even wondering if your iPad has unintentionally joined a neighbor's wireless network.
I had considered moving the iMac and using it as a base station to free the Airport Express for other duty but where I want to move it is further away from the living room.
Using the iMac to share a wired Ethernet connection to create its own wireless network is certainly possible, but it is less than ideal. For one, the iMac would have to be powered on all the time.
You do not need or want another router.
It is impossible for me to be certain of your network environment (meaning, the size and configuration of your home, the proximity of competing wireless networks, the number of network devices, and the potential for interference) but you might be better off replacing the wired Linksys router with an AirPort Extreme. That would give you the ability to create a "roaming network" or to use your Express to extend the Extreme's wireless network. I think this would be the easiest solution, but given the uncertainly of your description this expense may not be necessary.
Much of my confusion stems from your original question: "Can my Airport Express be used to extend the signal for an iPad2" - the quick answer is yes, but a prerequisite question is, "what signal?" The only "signal" I can determine that may be relevant is the one created by the Express. Once we have the terminology fixed, perhaps we can fix what's wrong with your network.

  • Extend Wireless Signal -TimeCapsule 500GB + 2 Express 2009 - Not Work !!

    Hi
In my home, I use a Time Capsule first gen 500GB as Router Acess Point. Attached to it, I have 1 PC Desk(Wired), 1 Playstation3/PSP (Wireless), 1 Brigde Wifi used in my SKY Decoder, 2 Iphone (one Classic and one 3GS), 1 IPAD, 2 Macbook White 2008 and 1 AppleTV 2G.
My Home has many rooms and walls are trick, which reduces the signal. To improve the signal, I bought 2 Airport Express, but never worked properly.
When I put The express to Extends the signal, my macbook stops the TimeMachine Backup, my PS3 don´t logs on network and my And my browsing speed drops dramatically, but the sign of the signal is full.
I use the TimeCapsule as MIX WIFI (802.11N-b/g 2.4ghz), because most of the equipment working in G ( Iphones, PS3, Sky, PSP).
    The configs on TC ( Criate a Wireless Network - WIFI b/g/n 2.4Ghz - Allow it to be expanded - channel 2 - WPA/WPA2 Personal - SSD WIFILNK_N)
The confis on Express 1 and 2 ( Extend a Wireles Network - Same SSID on TC - Allow wifi client - WPA/WPA2 Personal with same Key)
I don´t know what I'm doing wrong, because I tried all modes and settings in Express WDS and Deny Wifi Client Connection)and have the same problem.
I don´t try to put all in True WIFI N (2.4 or 5ghz) because the others equipments.
My last attempt is to share this problem here...

    Welcome to Apple's discussion groups.
What some people do wrong with network extension is to put the extending device too far from the main station. Try moving them to a point half way between the main station and the remote client.
When I put The express to Extends the signal, my macbook stops the TimeMachine Backup, my PS3 don´t logs on network and my And my browsing speed drops dramatically, but the sign of the signal is full.
That menu bar icon just shows you a rough indication of the signal from the nearest access point but doesn't reflect overall throughput. If you hold down an "option" key when you pull down that menu bar icon, you'll see a value for "RSSI", which is a better indicator of the signal strength.
Use the advice in this thread on the Time Capsule to investigate the signal and noise levels that each AirPort Express sees:

I don't know what you mean by "True WiFi".

  • Is it possible to wirelessly extend a signal from my Airport Express A1264 to my basement without sacrificing speed?

I have a Mac, using OS X, version 10.8.4.  My Airport Express A1264 has worked very well.  However,
we would like to extend a signal to our basement for PS 3 and movies.  I am sure it would be better
using ethernet, but that will not be possible.  Is there a way to do it without sacrificing speed, and
if so, what would I need to do?  Thanks.

Is there a way to do it without sacrificing speed,
No, not using wireless to extend.
The reason.....the wireless signal loses speed and strength the further that it moves away from a wireless router....and/or....it encounters any obstruction(s) in the signal path.
So, the wireless signal has probably already lost a good deal of strength and speed at the point where you add an AirPort Express. The Express can only extend the quality of signal and speed that it receives. In simple terms, the Express cannot make a slow signal go faster.
You lose no speed in a wire up to 100 meters. Easy to understand why this is a much better way to extend a network.
You can certainly try the wireless approach first....it might be OK....but if not, you will need to run the wire to obtain the performance that you need.
A wire guy can probably do this more quickly and less expensively than you might think. Whatever the cost might be, it will be best investment that you can make if you desire reliable wireless network performance.

  • Using express to extend extrene signal, can I use a secont express to extend first express (extending extrene)signal even further

I'm extending the signal of Airport Extreme with an Airport Express. However, I still need to to extend signal even further.
Can I use another Airport Express to extend the signal of the firts Aiport Express even further which is already extending the signal of Airport Extreme?
In other words, Airport Extreme connected to Airport Express extending signal, then another Airport Express extending signal from first Airport Express.

    Bob,
Thanks for answer this... I am trying to figure out how to do something in my home and thought you might be able to answer this for me.  I have a house that has wired ethernet thruout.  I have a  dual t1 line coming into a wired router (that provides internet access) going into a switch.  Plugged into the switch are all the ethernet lines running thruout the house and a wireless apple time capsule.  I have 3 other apple extreme base stations that I want to plug into the wired ethernet connections thruout the house and have all of them use the same base network... Right now when I go thru the wizard it sets them up to connect via the wireless signal, which is great if they are within range of the time capsule, but the second I move one of them to another area of the house that is outside this range, they "appear" to be working (green light) but are actually not connecting to the time capsule, whether or not I plug them into the ethernet jack or not....  I can assign each one of them a separate static IP address that allows each of them to reach the internet but then I will have 4 wireless networks rather than just one... Hopefully, I explained this well... Any suggestions?
    Thanks!
    Jim

Yes, if you plan to connect the AirPort Extreme back to the Motorola modem/router using a permanent wired Ethernet cable connection.
No, if you were planning to have the AirPort Extreme extend the Motorola signal wirelesssly.

I cannot get my Macbook Pro to display on my LG TV when using an HDMI/mini port connection. I have checked the input and re-connected all of the cords, restarted the computer, etc. and I still see a "No Signal" sign jumping around my television screen.
I am updated to the most recent software (OS X 10.8.2) as well.

  • Wireless range extender or signal booster for Mac OS 10.9 ?

Hi, I have a new iMac 21.5 in, running OS 10.9.5. I have tons of storage capacity, 8 GB memory, and its very fast.
    I have two questions:
1.the little one is, why does this message pop up sometimes on this site:
" ! You are not allowed to create or update this content." ? When that happens, I see no explanation to help me fix the problem!
    2. The bigger question I have is:
can anyone suggest a device I can purchase that would strengthen my land's wireless signal so i have decent internet?
I am renting one of 13 cottages on a small parcel of land, and mine is the last in a string of renters all sharing the same wireless signal! So I get the last dregs after everyone else's gaming, streaming, etc etc.
It would need to have a working driver for Mac OS 10.9 available for it, as I am currently running 10.9.5, and would like to continue upgrading the OS software whenever it comes available.
I know hardly anything about how all that internet config stuff works, and I don't even know exactly what i should be looking for— extender? booster? adapter? etc….
But I need something soon, as right now my hands are tied, and I can only do anything at all on my old windows PC!
    Thanks for any advice!!

Extending a bad signal will give you a bad signal.
If the cottages share electrical power you could try powerline adaptors. Otherwise run cables.

  • HDMI Receiver no Signal

    Hello!
I purchased a MAC Mini to run PLEX Media Server! Everything works great till I turn off my receiver then the screen doesn't display and receiver says "No Signal".
    My Setup is as follows:
MAC Mini <--HDMI--> Onkyo Receiver <--HDMI--> Samsung TV
Mini OS Version - 10.8.2 (I don't recall seeing this issue in 10.8.0, but I'd need to confirm that again).
Harmony remote, with PLEX configured to accept the remote commands from the Harmony.
When I hit "All Off" the TV and the Onkyo power off, and all is good!  On the MAC Mini, I'm now unable to get to my iTunes library from my iPhone (Remote App), and I'm unable to get on the Mini via VNC (I have VNC enabled).  I am however able to SSH into the Mini during this time and issue commands, etc.  When I power on the receiver (to use the mini), the receiver reads "No Signal" and the only way for me to get the screen to come back is to reload the Mini, sometimes even pulling the power cord.  If I leave the receiver on, all is good and the Mini runs as expected.
It seems to be something when the Mini loses its signal from the receiver causes something bad to happen to it.  I can switch between sources on the Receiver, but as soon as I turn it off is when I need to walk up and reboot the mini.
Is there another version of OS X that I can run that may not see this issue (Lion, Snow Leopard, etc)??
Any help with this will be greatly appreciative.
    Dave

    Hi,
I tried everything. When I change the resolution to 1080i or 720p it works and I can see the screen on my TV via the Yamaha 2065. But when I change to 1080p. There is no signal.
But I have other 1080p devices as well. My PS3 is working fine on any port. But not the MacMini.
In looked in the setup of the Yamaha Receiver and there is no option to change the mode to Pass-Trough.
But due to the fact, that the PS3 is working with any HDMI Port it should be fine.
But when I connect the MACMini directly to my Samsung TV, 1080p is fine. So, the cable and the settings are fine.

  • HDMI display: no signal

I am trying HDMI for the first time. I have a DVI splitter connected to the Mini and a VGA cable going to one display, which works fine. Today, I got a DVI to HDMI cable and connected it to my projector. I turned off the LCD display and turned on the projector. It said "no signal." Do I need to restart the Mac? Is there a reason that VGA works and HDMI not? The projector also has a VGA connector and that also works fine with the Mini.

I am happy to say to the problem is solved. The projector was set on "auto" for computer input. So, it should have detected that the VGA cable was no longer connected, but the HDMI cable was. It failed to do that. By forcing it to look at the HDMI input, it worked. The Mini correctly identified the projector and set the resolution correctly. Now, I just have to try the splitter and see if that will work.
    Thanks for the help.

  • Connection to TV via Thunderbolt and HDMI lost - no signal

Hi, I used to connect my Macbook Pro to my Samsung TV using a Thunderbolt adaptor and HDMI lead. This worked well for several months. I can't think of anything I changed, however the TV no longer detects a signal.
    I am running OS X 10.8.4.
The message from the TV is "No Signal. Check connected device's power, cable connection, and source selection".
Initially, when I plug in the thunderbolt adaptor to the Macbook (which is connected to the HDMI and TV), the Macbook screen goes blue for a couple of seconds and the "display mirroring" icon appears, but the TV give the No signal message.
I would be grateful for help. I feel that this must be a software issue.
    Many thanks
    Mark.
