HDMI Failure?

I live between Spain and Germany and travel with my Mac Mini between the two countries.
In Germany I use a Full HD monitor, direct HDMI connection btwn my Mini and the Monitor.
In Spain, I use an EIZO display which only has VGA option, so I use to the converter (HDMI to VGA) and both connections have worked flawlessly until today.
I arrived in Spain and plugged into the EIZO monitor as always, using the same cable and adapter as I always have.
No signal being received by EIZO.  I see that the Mini detects the display, but EIZO reports no signal being received.
Checked both cable and monitor separately and both are working perfectly independent of the Mini.
Thanks ahead of time for your help.

Hey, I have the same problem too. It is making me angry. Both my thunderbolt outputs work, but the hdmi freezes both screens. I then have to shut the computer off by holding the power button and re-boot. Have you found a solution? I NEED my hdmi port. Please get back to me. Thanks!

  • HDMI failure on MacBook Pro Retina Display

When I connect my MacBook Pro Retina Display (late Aug 2012) with HDMI cable to my HD TV their both screens turn blue and the Mac needs reboot. I used that same TV with my 3 yo MacBook Pro to watch over the HDMI (with some extra cabling) and it was fine. Why is it happening this now with the New Retina dispaly?

  • Dolby Digital over HDMI failure

I am connected to my Onkyo AV receiver through HDMI and when I first turn my receiver on it displays Dolby Digital but as soon as I start netflix DD goes away. I have tried setting DD "on" and "auto" in apple tv settings.  Anyone having any luck with DD?

Ok... I found out that the dolby digital over HDMI issue is no fault of AppleTV. Most content from Netflix is not broadcast in Dolby.  A good movie that is in DD is "The Warriors Way". You'll even see the Dolby icon at the main movie menu.

  • HDMI Output Failure on 2-Mini's After 10.9.3 Update

I have two separate (Late 2012, OS X 10.8) Mini's that are both (2.6 GHz Intel Core i7, 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3) that have been hooked-up to identical Flanders Scientific professional HD monitors via HDMI cables from the computer output to HDMI / DVI adapters into the monitor input and they have worked flawlessly in that configuration since purchase in July of last year. THAT IS UNTIL, I made the stupid mistake of installing OS X 10.9.3 ---
I updated both Mini-A and Mini-B within a few minutes of eachother while they remained online and wired to the monitors in that identical configuration. Mini-A was the first to complete the download and install of 10.9.3 and when it rebooted, the display image did not return. Subsequently, a few minutes later, Mini-B completed the download, install and reboot with the identical result of missing display image.
    Monitor info:
    2 x Flanders Scientific LM-2140W, 1920x1080, 10 bit, switchable multi-input (2 x HD/SDI, YPbPr & RGB Component, 1 x SD/SDI, DVI-I / DVI-A / DVI-D switchable YPbPr / Limited RGB / Full RGB)
Needless to say, I have been fiddle-f***ing around trying to resolve the issue for more than a week to no avail. The HDMI output signal is no longer present on both computers and the only way to feed a signal to a monitor is now via the thunderbolt / mini-display port output using a Mini-Display Portt to DVI-I or DVI-D adapter at the computer to DVI cable into the monitor.
    Troubleshooting Procedure included.
PRAM / NVRAM / SMC Reset (no change)
    Alternate Cables (no change)
    Alternate Monitors (no change)
Alternate Computers running OS X 10.8.5 via HDMI wiring schema as before (image on both monitors)
I'm no GENIUS, but I do have a modecum of experience with troubleshooting this kind of stuff and I am 100% confident that OS X 10.9.3 has caused this problem. Now, who wants to tell me how to fix it before my warranty runs out in 45 days.

So to be clear, this issue occurs on any input with the Denon Receiver.  Occurs from both HDMI out and MiniDisplay Port out.  Goes away when we reinstall the OS and update it to 10.9.2.  Comes back as soon as we update to 10.9.3.
    Cheers

Have you been able to use the Mac Mini directly attached to the plasma/LCD/projector with out going through the Denon AVR? Even with 10.9.3 installed?
I have a Pioneer AVR and I have the Mac attached via a HDMI to HDMI and all is working for me. Can your Denon do some upscaling? Some AVR, like my VSX-53 can change the scaling of the input video. Meaning if I still had my Apple TV 2 which outputs 720P only, can be upscaled in my AVR to 1080i or 1080P or even 24fps. Heck, I could even plug in an old style Red, White, Yellow cable and upscale it to 1080P and output it HDMI.
I am wondering if your Denon is able to do that and it might be set wrong. Check the owners manual for such settings. Even the plasma/LCD/project could be doing the upscaling too. So check that too.

  • 62HM84 HDMI port failure?

On my 62HM84, the HDMI port has stopped working after about six years.  It's not the cable, as I've tested that.  When connected to my Comcast receiver, if I change the input to HDMI I get a picture for about three seconds and then the screen goes blank, but the audio continues.  If I connect the HDMI to another component, I get no image or a similar occurrence.
Anyone know if there is anything I can try to remedy this, or is the port shot?  If so, how much will this run me?

    Hi!!
My Toshiba 46HM84 DLP HDMI was working fine until I got the message the from WOW cable ,(DuPage county, Il) ,that my TV does not support HDMI and use PBY (color streaming). They broadcast a message and then sent a signal and the picture appears briefly (I am using WOW DVR) and thne it drops. My two son’s have newer HD TV’s same cable, same house, same WOW service, no problems. Manual (p15) states that to reset HDMI turn TV on first and then DVR and turn off TV first and then DVR – never had to worry before and still does not work. Could DVR signal have been upgraded and I can’t  handle it?? Bad DVR (happened before)??

  • Yet another failed HDMI to TV failure ?

.....like many others on here my HDMI out to TV suddenly stopped working.. OK 3 days ago..now .. dead as a duck...
Tried everything .... no luck... Eventually got a NO FIX NO FEE guy in .. spent 3.5 hours (yes).. went away totally baffled.. (NO FEE)... What the hell is up with this damned thing... Feel like chucking it out and getting another make...?

    Hi @advid ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have looked into your issue about your HP Pavilion g6 Notebook  and connecting a monitor or TV with an HDMI Cord.
Here is a general document on troubleshooting issues with the HDMI connection.
With the HDMI cable connected have you restarted the Notebook?
Have you tried a different cable?
    Hope this is helpful.
    Thanks.

  • Q700 HDMI Port Failure

Just bought a Q700 tower...  set it up and everything was working great for about 5 days.  Had success connecting LCD monitor using HDMI port, but when starting-up on day 5 the screen went blank, and haven't been able to get it working again.
Am connected now using VGA cable, but obviously want funcationality of the HDMI port back.
Have verified the monitor and HDMI cable are good by connecting to PS3.
Have updated display adapter drivers to latest version on Lenovo site.
    Any other ideas?

    Update:
This Issue has not been resolved, but the best I can figure is that there is some sort of pairing that occurs between my monitor (Samsung 2463UW) and the Q700.
Occasionally (approx. once per week), when initially starting up, or restarting, or waking the PC up after being in Sleep mode, the HDMI output doesn't work.  The display first goes 'snowy', then cuts to black as described above.
I can bring functionality back by disconnecting the PC and hooking it up to my TV (Sharp Aquos) with a different HDMI cable.  But that's only half the solution - I also have to connect my PS3 to the Samsung monitor.  Doing only one of these steps does not fix the problem.
In effect, it seems like I have to pair both the monitor and the Q700 with another device to reset the connections before they will work together again.
Does this sound familiar, or in anyway logical to anybody?  Maybe it's some sort of ground-loop causing the issue?  I feel like I'm grasping at straws here...

  • Apple TV (atv) no sound via optical or analog BUT sound through HDMI

    Hi all,
This is my first post into the forums. I spent some time searching for problems with Apple TV audio and as a result I think I already know the answer to my question, but would appreciate a second opinion.
My Apple TV is about 1.5 years old (no AppleCare) and has been working fine up until last week. I am using two audio connections:
    1) HDMI to the TV (with tiny speakers)
    2) digital optical out to the receiver (with bigger speakers... receiver has no HDMI input)
We've been watching videos (youtube, etc) through the TV speakers (over HDMI) for a while, because we we had to keep things very quiet in our apartment. Then one day we wanted to watch a movie, so we turned on the receiver... to the overwhelming sound of silence.
Rebooted repeatedly times, pulled the power cord out, let it cool off, etc etc. Tried a restart via the diagnostic menu... still no output over optical. I tried analog... no sound there, either. I swapped out RCA cables for the analog connections, tested it with a CD player so I know that the cables are good, and the ports on the receiver are good.
So after all that troubleshooting, audio works over HDMI, but not optical or analog.
Then I pulled out the digital optical cord and looked into the port. Sounds silly, but usually there's a red light on when the ATV is on, right? (or for any device with digital optical connections, for that matter). There was no light. I looked at the end of the optical cable, which was still hooked up to my receiver. The tip of the cable was definitely lit up.
So... my guess is that somewhere within the logic board, there's some sort of component failure on the optical/analog outputs. Has anyone had this happen to them?
    Now, regarding options:
I read one post in the forum that says the repair cost is approx 2/3 the cost of a new unit... ATV retails on the Apple web site for $229, which pegs the repair price at approx $151. Does that sound right to others? Having taken a look at the teardown guides, I'm sure this will be a "replace the logic board" repair, which will probably be one of the most expensive options.
    Thanks very much!

    Cubehead wrote:
I have the same exact setup as you. Fortunately for me, mine works well. I can't speak to the ATV replacement option, but I do have a suggestion. On my Denon receiver, I have to assign the optical input from the ATV to the receiver (it does not happen automatically).
Good advice...but I'd assumed they'd had it working successfully before.
This may sound simplistic, but just checking to see if you ever went through that process. Also, just curious to see if this setup ever worked for you. In reading your post, it sounds like this is the first time you had ever used your receiver with the ATV.

  • I am trying to connect my HDTV to my MacBook Pro using a Mini Display Port to HDMI and the TV seems to not be receiving any signal. Is there something wrong with my TV or Adapter?

Whenever I connect the minidisplay port to the HDMI cable, my MacBook Pro screen turns blue for a moment and then nothing shows on my HDTV. I have tried to "detect displays" with each resolution listed, but none seem to work with my tv. Is there any way to fix this issue?

I keep saying this over and over, in the hope that people who do a search will find it.  Apple cannot possibly test for or be reponsible for the bazillion combinations of adapter, cables, and TV's out there.  The only monitors that are 100% guaranteed to work with the MacBook Pro are the Cinema Displays and Thunderbolt Displays, because, they're made by Apple.  They're expensive, but they work perfectly.
My guess is that you bought a cheap MDP to HDMI cable, or have a defective one.  From my reading of these boards over the past few months, cheap cables have a high failure rate.  And the regular priced ones have only a slightly less of one.  Try a new one.  Make sure you do not damage the Thunderbolt port.

  • Mini display port to HDMI - negative picture issue

I bought a new Macbook Pro 13,3 inch laptop last week and added a 120 GB ssd and 8 GB of RAM. I'm loving it!
Something I'm not loving however is the issue with the Mini Display Port / Thunderbolt when connecting with a MDP-HDMI adaptor. I watch a lot of movies and so hooking the computer up to my Sony BRAVIA 46 inch TV is quite important. Everytime I do the picture and sound are great! For about 5 minutes... then the picture goes "negative" you know that turqoise look?? Like a negative image. The sound is still there, the picture is just affected. To remedy I have to turn the tv off and restart the movie. Very annoying doing this ever 4-5 minutes!!
Is there a fix of some sort? Apple should really release an update for this.
    Thanks!

sounds more like a hardware failure.
Try a different monitor to see if the problem persists, in which case that would point to a bad video card... or try a different source with your monitor(another computer), and if the problem persists, that would indicate a problem with the monitor

  • I just ran a software update for Java and MacBook Pro SMC, now my Mini Display Port to HDMI TV is not working. The TV is flickering. The Mac Display is fine.

I was just watching / streaming TV off Safari on my actual TV.
I'm using a Mini-Display Port to HDMI cable for the connection to the external display.
Software update popped-up and said there was an update for Java and for SMC.
I ran the update and upon the computer restarting, my external display (my TV) is no longer working. It is now flickering.
It won't work in Mirroring or set up as an extended display.
I've reset SMC / PRAM / Safe Mode / Even restored from a Time Machine backup (From before the updates were done).
    What could it be?!

  • Is HDCP protection always on when using Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter?

I'm trying to capture my MacBook Air (2010) desktop for use in a Podcast.
So I purchased a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter and plugged that into a HDMI capture card on another machine.
Unfortunately it keeps telling me the stream is protected and it won't display anything.
I've tried my 2010 iMac and 2011 Mac Mini too, but they all produce the same issue.
If i plug them directly into a TV instead then they display fine, but not when connected to the capture card.
A windows based laptop with HDMI out works fine as does a DVD player. But when I attempt to play a cop protected DVD - then the HDCP kicks in and the picture is blocked.
Does anyone know if there is a way to display just the Lion Desktop without invoking HDCP protection?
    Thanks in Advance
    Anthony

Is the failure repeatable? If not, I would forget that it happened once and move on. It had something to do with pages moving in and out of the registers. S**t happens.

  • Hdmi adapter not working after upgrade to iOS 8

My Hdmi adapter (orig. Apple) is not working anymore after upgrade to iOS 8, is there any solution.

The IOS 8 update has nothing to do with the failure of the device. I have a HDMI adapter and it has worked fine through IOS 6, IOS 7 and IOS 8.
You may want to restart your device by holding the home and power button until the Apple logo appears. If the adapter still fails to work you need to determine if the adapter has failed or the port on your device has failed. Best solution is to go to the Apple store with the device and the adapter. If your adapter has failed it may be under warranty if you still have the sales receipt. If the port on your device is bad then the Apple store will be able to provide you with options.

  • HDMI monitor no longer working after 10.9.3

While rebooting/upgrading to 10.9.3 the external HDMI monitor connected to my macbook pro '13
started "flashing" as in "detecting the display" similar to when you plug in the hdmi cable with the system running.
I'm not able to do anything unless I unplug the HDMI since it keeps retrying to "detect the display".
If I open the "display" in the settings panel I see between a "flash" and another that the monitor is detected but looks like it keeps "swiching on/off"
checked the monitor with another laptop and everything works, so the problem seems to be related to the 10.9.3 upgrade
