HDMI from laptop to Television

Hello,
I have an HP pavillon dm4 and have tried to connect it a television via an HDMI cable. I have done this in the past and have never had any trouble. Recently, I plugged it in and the sound will not work, on anything. I can play a song or video and there is no sound coming from my laptop or my television. I have tried everything from going to the control panel and setting the default sound to the tv and trying to switch back to my laptop speakers, none of which seem to work. Please help!!!!

Please Help! HDMI sound playing from laptop and NOT the TV

Synopsis: Installed Windows 8.1 on new SSD on my Toshiba P75-A7200. I stalled all the drivers from Toshiba website. Everything works except now my HDMI audio does not play on TV play from laptop. I reinstalled the original v. of Intel HD Graphics 4600 and Conexant Smart Audio HD drivers. I also looked in the volume control panel and sound playback options looking for HDMI setting with no luck. Has anyone encountered this? OR have an idea how to get my audio working with HDMI cable to TV?
I checked different HDMI cables to be sure it wasn't a bad cable.

If you're determined to set things right, you can always restore the hard disk to its original out-of-the-box contents using Toshiba recovery media and upgrade to Windows 8.1 this way
If you failed to create recovery media, obtain it from Toshiba. Scroll down to Get Recovery Media here

Sky Go HDMI error from Laptop to TV

Bought a laptop with Win 8 two weeks ago.Sky Go worked fine on it INCLUDING using HDMI cable to Samsung TV. However, have upgraded laptop to Win 10. Now HDMI insertion stops Sky Go. Usual errors t 6030 or 6035 with c 4110's.Have tried ALL suggestions on here and elsewhere, but still HDMI connection fails; still works without HDMI cable connected. NOTE that old Windows 7 64bit PC with HDMI output on motherboard STILL works fine using HDMI cable.So WHY does laptop fail to work with Win 10, but worked fine with Win 8? AND old Windows 7 works fine?If Sky in conspiracy with Silverlight are blocking HDMI then they are making a big mistake as the PC/laptop industry are moving to put HDMI on these devices as a permanent output because it carries everything (audio in particular which DVI does not), can carry 4K, and many PC and laptop users now buy TV's as monitors to free up wall and room space, especially in bedrooms. Few if any TV's comes with DVI inputs.Almost all new dedicated PC monitors come with an HDMI input, and users want to use them to enhance modern game visuals.So Sky, is this a temporary Win 10 problem, or are you stupidly blocking outputs that are going to upset and arienate all your FEE PAYING CUSTOMERS?Sky, you must unblock HDMI now, otherwise the negative publicity that users like me will cause will force you to eventually, and I'm going to get Which? The Consumers Association involved. We are entitled to use HDMI from PC to PC monitor or TV as monitors. Sky are acting against current hardware trends.There is no licence breach as Sky Go and/or Extra allows 2 or 4 devices.

It's been a while since I started this thread, and in that time a pattern has emerged. This might assist others. There is a pattern of HDMI problems that occur after ANY update happens. As someone mentioned earlier (thank you) there is also HDCP, that can have sync issues. I have had problems after Windows Updates, Silverlight updates, Windows 10 upgrade and Firefox updates, but they now always go away. The consistent recovery proceedure seems to be:-Make sure the HDMI cable is NOT plugged into the laptop or PC;-Make sure all instals are done;-Shutdown the laptop/PC completely and remove power, AFTER restarting your laptop/PC after any updates;-Switch off your TV at the wall, switch off the laptop/PC at the wall and wait 10 seconds (arbitrary number, just to make sure all the transformers are empty of power);-Switch on the power to TV, THEN laptop/PC;-Switch on TV;-Reboot laptop/PC, login and wait for all startup items to run;-Connect HDMI cable to the laptop/PC;-Try SkyGo. If the above fails, remove HDMI cable from laptop/PC, leave laptop/PC on for a while, then try the whole above procedure again.Works for me. Longest I had to wait was 1 hour, so faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar.

Black display after disconnecting HDMI from TV

I usually connect my Macbook pro to my TV using HDMI cable, the problem is when i finish, and disconnect the HDMI from my laptop i get a black screen but the laptop is still running, and i cant do anything except hitting the power button to shut it down and turn it on again.

So I was able to get my computer to open in safe mode...did some searching on the support site, and found this fix which I decided to try, as the symptoms were all the same as my issue. Which, by the way, seems to be from an update, rather than the TV cause that I thought it was!

Start computer holding up COMMAND + S (puts you into single user mode)
In the prompt enter: mount –uw / then hit return (please note spaces in command)
Enter: cd /Library/Preferences then hit return (please note spaces AND the Capital L and P – it is case sensitive)
Enter: mv com.apple.loginwindow.plist com.apple.loginwindow.plist.old (please note spaces) then hit return
Enter: Reboot then hit return
Once the computer restarts tap the trackpad (so you see the cursor) then enter the first letter of the username, which would be a in my case (it is best to use the administrator account) then hit ENTER
Now enter in the password , then press enter
