HDMI, Headphone Jack, Ethernet port doesn't work after lightning strike

I have a Mac Mini mid 2011 model. After a recent thunder storm/lightning strike the ports mentioned doesn't work anymore. Do I have to replace the whole logic board to get it working again?  What are my options in fixing the mini? Luckily, I'm currently using a Thunderport to HDMI, a USB adapter for sound, and USB to Ethernet for internet. The mini still starts up as well as everything else, but those three ports were hit and are no longer responsive.
Any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately.   This is why I never leave my computer plugged in to power or electrical devices when I leave the house in any sort of unpredictable weather situation that may include lightning.   There is no surge protector that can protect against a direct lightning strike.

  • Airport Express Ethernet port doesn't work.

I bought my airport express little over a year ago, so the new one, and since then the ethernet port stopped working. The only way i can get it to work is by bending the eithernet cable a certain direction and holding it down, other than that it does not recognise there is even a CAT5 cable plugged up to it. Has anyone ever seen this or know what to do to fix it? I do not want to have to buy another.

This should not be much a problem, unless it's...... you guess it:
    The WAN Port!
If it is, does changing cables help?
If it really is the port and not the cables, I"d probably try to fix it manually myself, unless it's still under warranty.

  • Mini ethernet port no longer works after 10.5.5

After upgrading my Mac Pro, Mini and MBP to 10.5.5 everything is working fine except on my Mini the ethernet no longer establishes a connection, I've tried other cables and connections, but its suddenly dead; I was wondering if anyone else is experiencing this?

  • How do I use my ipod in the car without it constantly charging?  I have to use a docking cable into the USB port because the 3.5 mm to 3.5mm jack I bought doesn't work on the ipod.

How do I use my ipod in the car without it constantly charging?  I have to use a docking cable into the USB port because the 3.5mm to 3.5mm jack I bought doesn't work with the ipod (although it does work with an MP3 player).  My ipod is a 5th generation 80GB classic.

I know this is old - but did you ever get this working. Thinking of getting a 780 ti card and I have an older mac with the mini-displayport too.

  • Audio out port doesn't work well

Hi, I have a Macbook Pro 13-inch, Early 2011. Since I bought it I always use my Mac whit headphones, but since a month it only works well the left headphone. I think that the problem it was my headphones but no, because I used it on my phone and workes well. So i come to the conclusion that the audio out port doesn't work well. What you think? And what you recommend to me to fix this problem?

Probably still under warranty, but not for long. Take it to the Apple Store or AASP to have it checked ASAP.

  • My Apple TV is a useless brick now.  Ethernet port no longer works.

Not sure, but it seems after an update, my ethernet port does not work.  I can plug it into the PS3 and works fine.  I HAVE TO use WiFi now or my Apple TV is a useless piece of plastic that looks "oh so Apple Cool."  Yea, whatever Apple.  I have been using this same port for almost 2 years with no issue.
    thoughts?

It may well be a hardware failure but a few things to try:
Unplug from main for 5-10 mins and restart it.
Reset settings in the Settings menus.
Last resort - try to factory restore to current software using a microUSB cable to hook it up to a computer running iTunes.
Assume you don't have Apple care (even if you did I think it's only 2 years on AppleTVs anyway).

  • My ethernet port is not working

I recently had my macbook sent into the store to repair a bad logic board (fried in a thunderstorm) and over the past month I have noticed that my ethernet port wasn't working. Before the storms our router was acting up so I figured our maintenance was working. When I noticed the bandwidth slowing I checked my ethernet connection only to find I have been using wireless this whole time.
Now I'm not sure if the apple store technicians (it was actually shipped off site to be repaired) checked the ethernet port when I last sent it in because from my knowledge it was working before the storm and I had never checked it afterwards.. I really don't want to be charged another $200 to fix a problem that could have been fixed during the same time as my previous work order.
I also had a bad experience with their timely service, my macbook was there for about a week and a half with no progress on anything when it was supposed to be shipped off site and when it finally was shipped off site it took a matter of two days to be fixed. That would have been two weeks less than my month turn over for this repair.
Any help or suggestions on what I should do and how I should approach the apple store? I really do not want a repeat and cannot afford to turn my macbook taken from me as it is being used for my current job.
P.S. I have singled the ethernet port to my computer as I had used my dad's macbook on the same ethernet cord and his worked, mine did not.

I have updated my computer this morning, it didn't change anything regarding the ethernet port. I also logged onto my windows through bootcamp and ran ipconfig. When I look into the ethernet option it says "media disconnected" could this mean the port is simply loose? or would there be a different sentence there if it was actually damaged. When I went under profiler though it did not say no ethernet ports are found but just listed off the usual numbers.
I'm tempted to reset my SMC but I want to make sure it will have no side effects on my computer, I really hope I can talk to the apple store because I'm really sick of their service to me.
I'm going to ramble for a bit but I feel like I got taken advantage of because I cannot be pushy or rude to others even in inconvenience. It was ~$100 for the repair service which isn't terrible and ~$130 for a new logic board togehter I ended up paying just under $300 for the complete repair which on it's own is not horrible either. However my computer was stuck in their system for a little over a month, it took 1 week to get the diagnosis which from there it should have been shipped off site to be repaired (and if followed how much time it took later on I would have been two days until I had my computer back) however every time I checked the status and called in the genius' replied it has been shipped off site so the status will not update until a repair has been finished. after a week of bombarding people at the apple store with phone calls asking how my computer is doing I finally got a call saying "it has been a week since we have heard from you about your computer, would you like for it to be repaired?". This was unbelievable all of my phone calls did not go through (was around 20 or so multiple ones in a day) and I wasted a week just to find my computer was basically lost in their store. Finally it was shipped off and repaired and sent back to me. When I brought this up to the manager in store she simply stated that there was no confirmation to repair the computer until I answered that phone call over a week later, which is absolutely ridiculous.
I received no other help from that point and ended up paying the full bill (which wasn't my purpose but still..) and I refuse to be treated like that again when it was supposed to be a somewhat simple procedure.
    end rant.
Anyway, I really hope this works because I do not feel like repeating this event nor paying another ~100 service fee for something that could have been repaired during the same time.

  • I updated to 10.4.7 and now my left USB port doesn't work

    Hi all,
I ran Software Update just a second ago, installing an update to MacOS (PowerPC), ITunes, and QuickTime. After the install and the restart, my left USB port is no longer working. It was working immediately before the install.
I have verified that the peripheral that was not working in the left port works just fine in the right one. I have also confirmed that a peripheral that was working previously in the right USB port doesn't work when attached to the left one.
Therefor, I am led to believe that the problem lies in the left USB port. The only thing that has changed is the updater which ran moments ago, and again, the left USB port was working just fine prior to the install.
Has anybody else experienced this problem and knows of a fix/patch/anything I can do?

  • [Solved] Network doesn't work after hibernate?

Hello!  This is my first legit Linux install so excuse me if I'm a bit slow.  I installed Arch last night and everything went smoothly.  However, after I tested out hibernate on my machine, the network doesn't seem to work.  Just prior to the hibernate, I installed Pidgin and Skype but they worked alright, so I think that the hibernate caused a problem on eth0.
I have an Asus P8Z68-V Pro motherboard with an Intel 82579V Gigabit Ethernet Controller that's using the e1000e driver.  Running "dmesg | grep e1000e" says that it is up.
I'm not entirely clear here, but from reading, I think that I have several ways of connecting to the network, including network, dhcpcd, networkmanager, and wicd.  I am using wicd so I did the following (or at least I think I am only using wicd):
    #rc.d stop network
    #rc.d stop dhcpcd
    #rc.d stop networkmanager
Similarly, I put a ! in front of network in rc.conf:
    # /etc/rc.conf - Main Configuration for Arch Linux
    # LOCALIZATION
    # LOCALE: available languages can be listed with the 'locale -a' command
    # DAEMON_LOCALE: If set to 'yes', use $LOCALE as the locale during daemon
    # startup and during the boot process. If set to 'no', the C locale is used.
    # HARDWARECLOCK: set to "", "UTC" or "localtime", any other value will result
    # in the hardware clock being left untouched (useful for virtualization)
    # Note: Using "localtime" is discouraged, using "" makes hwclock fall back
    # to the value in /var/lib/hwclock/adjfile
    # TIMEZONE: timezones are found in /usr/share/zoneinfo
    # Note: if unset, the value in /etc/localtime is used unchanged

Restarting eth0 through wicd-cli still did not work.  I also tried resuscitating the network via instructions on the configure network page before trying to focus solely on wicd.
I found a few similar problems on the forums by searching "wicd hibernate" and tried several solutions but they did not work.  Several problems seem to be that the network doesn't work after a suspend because I guess the stuff in RAM did not get saved?  But people were able to restart the network by running "/usr/lib/wicd/autoconnect.py" and I wasn't able to get this to work.  As a final effort, I added "resume" into mkinitcpio.conf and placed the machine into sleep again to see if it may magically reset something but of course this did not happen .
    mkinitcpio.conf:
    # vim:set ft=sh
    # MODULES
    # The following modules are loaded before any boot hooks are
    # run. Advanced users may wish to specify all system modules
    # in this array. For instance:
    # MODULES="piix ide_disk reiserfs"
    MODULES=""
    # BINARIES
    # This setting includes any additional binaries a given user may
    # wish into the CPIO image. This is run first, so it may be used to
    # override the actual binaries used in a given hook.
    # (Existing files are NOT overwritten if already added)
    # BINARIES are dependency parsed, so you may safely ignore libraries
    BINARIES=""
    # FILES
    # This setting is similar to BINARIES above, however, files are added
    # as-is and are not parsed in any way. This is useful for config files.
    # Some users may wish to include modprobe.conf for custom module options
    # like so:
    # FILES="/etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf"
    FILES=""
    # HOOKS
    # This is the most important setting in this file. The HOOKS control the
    # modules and scripts added to the image, and what happens at boot time.
    # Order is important, and it is recommended that you do not change the
    # order in which HOOKS are added. Run 'mkinitcpio -H <hook name>' for
    # help on a given hook.
    # 'base' is _required_ unless you know precisely what you are doing.
    # 'udev' is _required_ in order to automatically load modules
    # 'filesystems' is _required_ unless you specify your fs modules in MODULES

    ## This setup specifies all modules in the MODULES setting above.
    ## No raid, lvm2, or encrypted root is needed.

    ## This setup will autodetect all modules for your system and should

    # HOOKS="base udev autodetect pata scsi sata filesystems"
    ## This is identical to the above, except the old ide subsystem is
    ## used for IDE devices instead of the new pata subsystem.
    # HOOKS="base udev autodetect ide scsi sata filesystems"
    ## This setup will generate a 'full' image which supports most systems.
    ## No autodetection is done.
    # HOOKS="base udev pata scsi sata usb filesystems"

Is wicd causing these problems or did I configure something else improperly?  Would appreciate any help to get eth0 up again!

Ok, I think I've made some progress!  Hibernate definitely affects my network connection.  Could this be a kernel 3.0 problem?
I noticed that ifconfig showed eth0 without an inet addr, just an inet6 addr for the longest time.  e1000e seemed to be loading up ok.  I'm not certain here, but I think that meant the dhcp settings didn't stick, or something along those lines.
Trying to use dhcpcd like the instructions here did not work.  By some chance, one attempt did work and while it did, I downloaded and installed dhclient.  After that one successful attempt, renewing the DHCP lease via dhcpcd did not work again.
Luckily though, I found that running "dhclient eth0" worked.  My DHCP settings seemed to have somehow gotten messed up after my initial, problematic hibernate to the point where none would stick, even after a reboot.  Manually typing in "dhclient eth0" would get eth0 working, so I decided to add it to the bottom of /etc/rc.local, like in the example on the networking page.
Now, eth0 works after a boot.  However, after the daemons load up during the boot process, my computer takes a long time to get to the login prompt (this is relatively speaking, since I am on a SSD and the boot process used to be blazing fast before).  I'm pretty sure it's because I added "dhclient eth0" to /etc/rc.local.
I should say that even with these changes, after a hibernate, my eth0 still does not work and if it weren't for the edit to /etc/rc.local, eth0's inet settings would still not stick after a reboot (that is to say, the hibernate does do something to my network settings).
Is this the correct/most efficient way to fix my DHCP problem?  Can I fix my "eth0 after hibernate" issue?  Also, can I make my DHCP settings boot up without changes to /etc/rc.local so that I can get a fast boot again (still not sure how it was able to work before without my edit)?

  • IMac - Display doesn´t work after restart

My iMac 21 Display doesn´t work after restart. If I turn it off and 1 hour later I want use it again the iMac shows the white screen with the mac logo and then the display goes off. I connected an external display to check if the iMac was ON and with the external display I can login and do everything but the iMac Display doesn´t work .
If I turn it off and wait 3 or 4 hours  and then turn it back on the display works OK.
This is very strange behavior I have spent hours and hours trying to fine the solution or a similar issue but nothing so I am looking help here at apple.com
BTW When I bougth the iMac 21 there were some spots over the display so the display was replaced by the provider. The warranty has expired by now.

To tell you the truth, I don't know if they have to repalce the LCD panel or what they do for a bad backlight. In this reality of block or assembly replacement it probably involves repalcing the panel and not the backlight component. Don't know what it would cost. You'd have to ask that of a service center.

    Why????

After IOS update, you first have to use passcode.
    Passcode is needed when
    After restarting your iPhone 5s
When more than 48 hours have elapsed from the last time you unlocked your iPhone 5s
To enter the Touch ID & Passcode setting
