HDMI hook-up

I have the TX2 and I want to know how -or if it is worth it- I can go about hooking my laptop to my HDTV.  I see a VGA port on the laptop but no actual HDMI port.  Is there an accessory that I can buy to make the connection that is not that expensive?

Hi Scalien,
I'm sure you could find some kind of adapter that would allow you to hook your laptop up to an HDMI port via your VGA.  However, the quality of the connection would be limited by the VGA technology and likely wouldn't look that good.  Does the TV have VGA or DVI input?  Those might be easier to connect.

  • Why does the Retina Screen on MBPR2013 make a Weird Flash when I have a External Display via HDMI hooked up?

I just bought a new 2013 early MACBOOK PRO RETINA.  When i have an external Display hooked up via the HDMI port, I noitce when I wake the computer UP it has a Different type OF QUICK FLASH that comes up than when there is nothing hooked up so I don't know if that makes sense to anyone, but its very disturbing to me, it makes me wonder if there is something wrong with the HDMI PORT ?????   Has anyone else experienced this or knows if this is NORMAL behavior of the new RETINA displays or the HDMI port makes it FLASH weird upon WAKE UP???   I have unplugged the HDMI and when I do the SCREEN comes up normally it just blinks on.  But when HDMI is used its light lightening stike.  Don't know  how else to explain it, maybe i need to do a video and Post a video.

One more disturbing thing.  When the screen on my MBP goes black and I check the system preferences for "Displays", the MacBook Pro display is not presented as an existing display.  Only the still-functioning Apple 20" Cinema Display.
    Where did it go??

  • HT4241 HDMI hooked in, picture great, but no sound?

I have an hdmi cable hooked up from my mac to the tv. I can get picture but I cannot get sound. Can someone tell me if there is a setting I need to change and where is it?

    Mary,
What year is your MBP? Prior to 2010 they didn't carry audio over HDMI. You can get around it by using a separate cable from your headphone jack to audio in on the TV.

  • MINI PORT TO HDMI HOOKING UP MAC TO TV

When I connected my mac to my TV using a mini port to hdmi cable I did not see my computer screen view on the TV but instead I saw apples default screen saver (the galaxy shot).  I can move pages off my computer to the right and it slides it into the TV shot as if my screen extends out to the right where I can only see it on the TV.  How do I change it to view on the TV exactly what I see on the computer?

Well through lots of trial and error I finally figured it out.  System Preferences > Displays > Arraingement > check the box that says "mirror displays"  I only hope this helps someone else from a long fustrating night.

  • I do not have a HDMI hook up

I just purchased an Apple TV.  Since my TV is older, it does not have an HDMI hookup.  What can I do?

Unless there is a cable box that can act as an HDMI switch, the answer is no.
(Cable box HDMI connections are usually output only not inputs to show signals through their other outputs).

  • Hdmi hook up to onkyo 906 problems

Has anyone figured out a way to use their Apple TV with an Onkyo 906 reciever (using HDMI).  THe receiver is set up to accept the HDMI in but I only get a blue screen, no menu.  I get audio beeps when I press the remote but no video.  Cables and ATV work fine directly into another TV, but not throught the Onkyo 906.  The HDMI inputs work fine with all other devices.

I got mine around 2 months ago.. I'm using HDMI and I don't remember any issues setting it up..  The only issue i had was using SKY TV with 5.1 sound.. i.e. having the picture through HDMI and the audio through optical, But i sorted that too.
    Hope this helps,
    Mort..

  • Trying to stream netflix from iPad to tv...not working...have av and hdmi hooked up...?????

trying to stream netflix from iPad to tv, but not working...settings in iPad, or something?

Sorry, totally missed that. Can you give some information about what is happening when you plug your iPad to the TV?
For example, does normal mirroring work (i.e., do you see your iPad home screen on the TV when you plug it)? Does any application other than netflix (be it a game or another streaming application) work? Do you get an error? Does it just show a white/black/blank screen on your iPad and TV?

  • Can't get MAC MINI HDMI to consistently display on TV monitor

My new MAC mini is connected to a new HD Samsung TV. Initially had problem showing HD movies because I had Mini connected via VGA. Purchased appropriate connection for HDMI and HD movies show great, for a while. Appears that sometimes zhen the mini sleeps, monitor doesn't see mini with HDMI connection. When I switch back to VGA, the monitor once again sees the mini. Recently HDMI was working great until I downloaded updated software, and now once again monitor doesn't see HDMI, only sees moni when I reconnect via VGA. I've checked all connections many times and can't find the issue. Looking for any assistance.
    THANKS

Update: Got the HDMI working again. Since I couldn't see mini mac with HDMI, hooked up VGA and restarted. While mac mini was restarting, changed connection to HDMI and low and behold, the monitor saw the mini in HDMI. Don't know if that's the optimum way.... but it worked.

  • Mini Displayport to HDMI Adapter Problems!!!

Okay so I have a MacBook Pro running OS X version 10.5.8.
2.4 GHz intel core 2 duo
And I recently got a Phillips flat screen tv with HDMI hook ups.
So naturally I wanted to connect my Mac.
So I went to Best Buy and purchased the Rocketfish mini displayport to HDMI adapter.
However upon connecting everything to my computer, nothing happened.
No picture came up on my tv, no sound, no change at all.
My computer doesn't even say there's a device connected.
Is there some sort of steps to setting it up?
I was under the impression I'd just have to plug it in and it would work.
Do I need to get another adapter?
    Please help!
    Thank you!

Took the MBP to the apple store. The display port works fine.
Embarassingly the tech pointed out the USB plug on the adaptor which I hadn't connected thinking it would be for another peripheral. Hey presto it worked!
    Red faced thanks!

  • Is there a way to have audio only come through the optic cable and video come only through HDMI on Apple TV 3rd Gen?

I currently have a digital optic cable hook up from my Apple TV 3 to my receiver and a HDMI hook up from my Apple TV 3to my flat screen. The audio is coming out of my TV speakers and receiver at the same time. I was wonder if there was a way to switch the audio output from the Apple TV 3 to the digital optic cable and only have video come out of the HDMI? I really only plan on using my receiver for the audio for my Apple TV 3. I know that I can just mute the TV but I wanted to know if there was a way to switch the feed. Thanks

There is an option on my TV but if I do that I lose all my audio on the TV. I have 3 HDMI ports on my Flat Screen. One is for my cable, one is for my PS3 (BTW the PS3 has an option to switch the audio feed so it will come out of the digital optic cable and leave video for the HDMI), and the last one is for my Apple TV 3. If I switch to external speakers I will lose my audio for the cable. I was hoping there was a way to switch the audio feed on the Apple TV 3.

  • Why did my external HD monitor go blank after working fine while hooked up to a new MacBook Pro?

Why did my external HD monitor go blank after working fine while hooked up to a new MacBook Pro? I have the Moshi adapter and HDMI hooked up to the 27 inch monitor. It was working fine and when I came back after lunch the monitor was blank but the MacBook Pro screen was fine. Could it be the adapter?

could be, try powering down the mac, with the exmonitor connected and see if it is recognized

  • Msi gt70 2PE integrated HD 4600 graphics HDMI port does not appear to work.

    Hi guys,
I have the GT70 2PE with integrated hd 4600 graphics and with a dedicated nvidia geforce gtx 880m card. The HDMI output does not appear to work.
I'm tech savvy and cannot figure this out for the life of me. have tried nearly everything.
lets start from the low level troubleshooting done:
    - plugged in the HDMI cable from a working computer that has HDMI hooked up to it. This did not make a difference from the new cable I bought for hooking up my TV to my laptop.
    - booted the laptop up and do not see a duplicate screen outputting via HDMI, all my video cards in my PC's I've built prior have always shown the HDMI output as a duplicate screen when I had a monitor hooked onto a PC. This makes me believe the HDMI port may be disabled/broken as there is no HDMI output at POST. Only the laptop monitor displays output.
In Windows 8.1 I've installed the latest 4600 drivers and nvidia 880m beta drivers.(even though installing nvidia drivers shouldn't matter since I've read the HDMI output is tied to the 4600 integrated graphics chip, also if during POST the HDMI output never showed up on my TV, then installing the latest intel graphics drivers shouldn't have made a difference either, which it didnt make a difference).
I've tried disabling the integrated graphics card then re-enabling it, as noted on the intel forums. - does nothing.
    what I've ruled out:
-HDMI cable issues = no issues due to other PC's and devices working with the cables. All cable tests are direct connect to the TV, no intermediary devices such as hdmi splitters etc.
-BIOS has zero options for graphics card options.
Any ideas before i RMA this laptop? I'm at a loss.

  • Which is better for AUDIO: HDMI or the Digital Optical Fiber Optic Toslink Audio Cable?

Is there a difference in Audio performance between your standard HDMI hook up (for my Blue Ray Player) or adding the Digital Optical Fiber Optic Toslink Audio Cable. Which will sound better????
    Please help...
    Thank you for your time!!!

Well that is huge debate here. My opinion is HDMI cables are WAY over priced for what they are. Do not be lead to believe you have to have a 100 dollar hdmi cable, I think 50 is crazy high myself. My only concern is getting one so cheap that it might have poor connections or not last. Also if you run it in a wall it has to be rated for that.
I have a Rocketfish cable and it works fine. My guess would be the dynex cables are fine too. And if your not buying it from Best Buy there are other options as well.
Something else to keep in mind as well. If you only have one HDMI device and you hook it up to your reciever using HDMI you will need two cables for one device. The one that runs to the Reciever and then the one from the reciever to the tv. If you use an Optical cable you only need the one HDMI cable. Run the HDMI cable from the blu ray to the tv, and the optical line from the player to the reciever. This will give you 5.1 dolby or dts through the reciever and also sound through the tv since HDMI carries sound as well as video.
But if money (for cables) was not an issue the HDMI cable supposedly can offer the best sound quality of the two.

  • Do they make usb to hdmi cords?

I want to hook my macbook up to stream on my flat creen tv. My mac does not have a hdmi hook up.  Do they make usb to hdmi cords?

If you connect the MacBook using a MiniDVI/HDMI adapter you will probably need to use external speakers or a stereo system for audio. The Mini-DVI/HDMI doesn't carry audio and there's no audio plugs on most TVs to work with HDMI since it's expecting audio with the HDMI.
If your TV has a DVI plug you can use a Mini-DVI/DVI adapter. The TV will have RCA audio plugs for use with the DVI.
    http://store.apple.com/us/search?find=Mini-DVI+to+DVI&mco=MTA4MzI5MDI
The Mini-DVI adapters are for Pre 2008 MacBooks. The newer ones use Mini Display Port adapters. Go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. When System Profiler comes up check the Model Identifier. Post that number back here and we can tell you which adapter to use.
