HDMI out goes blank
I purchased a Samsung commercial signage TV for running videos and powerpoint shows in my tradeshow booth. When I connect my HP ProBook 4540 laptop via HDMI to this TV, everything looks perfect but only for about 10-20 seconds then the display goes blank and I have disconnect the HDMI cable to get my laptop screen to come back on. I can reconnect the cable and again the TV pops on, looks perfect, and blanks out after 10-20 seconds. I have tried mutiple HDMI cables, checked and rechecked the port settings. The resolution comes up correctly every time (1080x1920) and I've also verified that the TV works perfectly with other computers (i.e. my Win7 desktop). Why would my laptop cut signal to the HDMI port? Hauling my desktop around to trade shows is not an option! ThanksBelldog Oh, BTW. It's AMD Radeon graphics.....

Troubleshooting
If you encounter an issue using the Apple Digital AV Adapter or VGA Adapter:
Disconnect and reconnect the adapter from the iOS device and display.
Connect directly to the TV, projector, or external display using a known-good VGA or HDMI cable.
Remove any VGA or HDMI extension cables or converters.
Note that accessories that convert a VGA or HDMI signal to other video formats (DVI, Composite, Component) are not supported.
Ensure that you are using the latest version of iOS. Some Apple Digital AV Adapters require iOS 5.1 or later.
When using an Apple Digital AV Adapter manufactured before early 2012 with iPad (3rd generation), you may see the "This accessory is not supported" alert. Dismissing the alert will allow you to use the adapter.
For optimal performance, you may need to adjust the video resolution or settings for your display. If your display offers an "auto detect" or "factory default" setting, you may be able to use these options to optimize video resolution and display.

Wow, this reminds me of what happened with Mavericks 10.9.0 until 10.9.3 and later were released and fixed this problem.
My monitor is a Dell S2440L connected to my Mac mini late 2012 via an HDMI cable.
The monitor goes blank randomly and sometimes a snowy screen like you would see when watching a UHF
channel on an old CRT TV shows up when the video comes back on. This happens while in the OS.
I also have power management problems again with computer not sleeping properly and my Magic Mouse
being able to wake up the computer despite "Allow Bluetooth devices to wake this computer" being unchecked.
I also have Wake for network access, power nap and start up after power failure unchecked as well.
Computer sleep and display sleep are set to "never" as I always had it with Mavericks.
These problems occurred after shutting down my Mac and restarting it this morning.
I know using a VGA cable will fix it but I don't want to do that.
Sorry for sounding frustrated but I'm not alone. So many people are having the same issue
of HDMI video blanking out while in the OS.
I love the look of Yosemite but wish I was back with Mavericks 10.9.5 where everything worked
flawlessly and I really mean flawlessly. It was magical. Not a single problem.
I guess we have to wait for 10.10.2 or 10.10.3.
I don't want to go back to Mavericks but if my screen keeps blanking out then my computer is of
no use for work or multimedia.
I'm sorry about the rant.
If anyone has figured out a workaround until Apple can issue another point release, please let me know.
I already tried resetting the SMC and NVRAM several times to no avail.

I'm trying to hook up my Macbook Pro to my TV. I'm using the 'mini-display port to female HDMI" adapter. all i can see is my desktop background. no folders or icons and when i play a movie it goes blank.
Drag applications from your main desktop off the right side of the screen and they will appear on the TV. This is the extended desktop mode.

My Ipod touch will only work when plugged into an Itouch radio. When I take it out of the charger, it goes blank. The battery shows fully charged. It appears that the battery is no longer charging. What should I do?
Try a reset: Hold the home and power buttons at the same time until the Apple boot logo appears. No data will be lost. If that fails, the battery may have gone kaput.

PDF Preview kicks out to Acrobat 7 and Body Pages goes blank
Two problems, and I suspect they are related...
I just purchased and installed Acrobat 7 Professional with Adobe Designer.
FIRST--The PDF Preview in Designer automatically kicks the preview out to Acrobat 7 and does not preview in Designer. Why???
SECOND--When I click back to Body Pages, for no reason after a little while the workspace goes blank (back to sheer white). It takes about 5 seconds for that to happen--and it happens inconsistently. It seems strange.
Can anyone help???

Gateway M675 with tons of power and RAMIt's a rare thing indeed when you can answer your own posts.
I did a "detect and repair" in Acrobat 7.0 Professional, which seemed to fix the problem.
I had loaded Acrobat Reader 7 after the initial install of Acrobat 7.0 Professional, and am wondering if that didn't cause the problem somehow.
Anyway, if anyone else has this problem, you might want to try the "detect and repair."
Let's hope the problem is fixed for good. :-) -
Macbook Pro 2011 DVI HDMI out does not work with TV when the power cable is connected
My Macbook Pro (Early 2011) DVI HDMI out does not work with TV when the power cable is connected. If get the blue screen and then can use the macbook but nothing is displayed on the TV. If i go into display I can see that there are two screens but nothing displayed on the TV. If i take the power cable out at this point the TV shows the second desktop as expected. If i then reconnect the cable, the screen flickers, as though it is being affected by the power cable, and the screen goes blank on the TV. Only if i remove the DVI cable do i get the blue screen again. If i remove the power cable and reconnect it will do it every single time, so i cannot see it being a TV issue or a minor glitch.
I have had this working previously but at the minute it seems to not be playing ball....any thoughts

HP2311x Goes blank/black when connected to my hp Pavilion HPE
Last month, my monitor started to go blank periodically and with increasing frequency. The system setup is:
Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit)
GeForce GT 530 video card
8 Gb RAM
Intel Core i7-2600 CPU @ 3.40 GHz
I have:
Cleaned the video card
Upgraded to the lastest GeForce driver
Updated the monitor driver
Factory reset the monitor
Changed the connector wire from DVI to HDMI
Connected another monitor to the HP Pavilion (works fine)
Connected the HP 2311x monitor to my Chromebook using HDMI (works fine)
Connected the monitor to my son's laptop (works fine)
The only time that the monitor goes blank/black periodically is when it is connected to the HP Pavilion HPE. A new monitor may solve the problem but as the monitor works with other computers I do not think that it is dead yet.
From the actions of the monitor it seems to switch off and then back on again.
Any ideas as to what to do to fix the issue?Hello @phil1001,

Problem with JFrame, it goes blank

My problem is with JFrame, when it's carrying operation which takes a bit of time, if somethhing goes on
top of the frame the frame goes blank, all the components vanished and when the operation is completed the components bacome visible. I dont know why this is happening,. The code is below, since my code is very complicated I am sending some code whcih shows the problem I have, when you press the button it execute's a for loop, whcih takes some time. If you minimize the frame and maximize again, you'll see what I mean.

}The reason this is happening is because your loop is so intensive that your program doesn't have time to refresh its JFrame. There is no great way to get past this stumbling block without decreasing the efficiency of your code. One possible solution is to call repaint() from within your loop, but of course this slows down your loop.

Does the iPhone 4S support HDMI- OUT via the digital AV adapter?
Does the 4S support HDMI ->OUT via the digital AV adapter or not? I read that it does (whether it be mirroring, YouTube video playback, movie playback, etc.) but I'm not having any luck. I recently tried my AV adapter (that I normally use with my iPad 2) but I get nothing. When I power cycle the phone after connecting the adapter, I get a error stating that the "accessory is not supported by iPhone". When I go to play a YouTube video, it shows up on the phone's screen for a second and then disappears. The LCD TV I am connected to never prompts me for the detection of a new HDMI device being connected" either, do I have no clue what's going on.
Any ideas? Thought?
Any help to solving this riddle once and for all would be appreciated.

I have the iPhone 4s, running 5.0.1 (9A405)
I have also experimented with sequence, and I see no particular order needed to make it work. Generally I get it all plugged in and then swipe the iPhone and in a few moments, the screen appears in mirroring mode. Then if I go to Videos I can play my clips with sound, or I can do Keynote presentations, etc.
So sorry to hear you're having trouble. I imagine you've already double-checked that you're seating it solidly in the dock connector and have a good, working HDMI cable. I am not sure what you mean in your original post about "powering up" the phone. It might also be some Verizon issue, though I don't know what that might be. Is your AV adaptor the Apple branded one? -
Can I use the HDMI Out on my macbook pro retina for audio without connecting a video device?
While the MBP has TOSLINK output from the headphone jack, TOSLINK does not have the bandwidth to carry the high resolution audio from many blu-rays and DVD-Audio disks. I would like to hook my MBP to an audio-only HDMI sink so I can pipe the multichannel output to my surround speaker setup.
My concern is that the MBP will get "confused" and do one of the following things - both of which are "bad":
1) It will decide that a video device is there, and put the desktop on the nonexistent HDMI display OR
2) It will decide to send no signal at all (no video, no audio) because it sees no video device.
Any thoughts on this?

But I want any movie video to remain unperterbed on my Thunderbolt display. And if I am not watching a movie and am just listening to multichannel FLACs or something, then I'd like to run the media player normally and have the usual desktop on my MBP or Thunderbolt display.
Any thoughts?

Not from Apple, you can go to the grey market if you choose but it is most likely that the only MB that will work is the one you already have.

Backstory: There are two possible events that could be causing this
1: At some point I may have followed a ''Tinyurl' link that consquently lead me to a youtube video, to which youtube worked perfectly fine before hand, and this is where i witnessed the first crash. Theories into whether this link, previously stated, may have done something to my system have been thought about, but the fact that youtube still works on the latest Microsoft Internet Explorer seems to present the idea of a virus or an error redundant. I own the latest Macfee antivirus software and Ccleaner(running the registry check) and have run them complete with disc defragment and scan disc error recovery along with an additional malware scanner. Nothing seems to have come up on anything. After doing all this, my last resort was System restore and this seemed to solve the problem, mainly because i had an earlier version of firefox. therefore i resisted updating for aslong as possible whenever it told me to update. but the otherday i thought i'd risk it again thinking it may have been a problem alot of people have been having and it would of been fixed, but sadly it hasn't. this lead me to google the problem and was advised to start firefox on 'safe mode' as there may have been a confliction between add ons or plugins with youtube or some thing like that, but sadly that hasn't worked either. The plugins i had installed with it were the ones firefox has told me to get, or recommended and the only two addons i had on firefox was Adblock plus (fanboy subscrip) and Noscript.
Details of what actually happens: go to a youtube link, video loads for about 2 seconds(both video and audio), screen freezes, and flashes maybe once with some small lines across the bottom half of the screen horizontally towards the right corner, then the screen goes blank and makes my laptop dorment, but still running, thus I restart my system.
Sadly now when I system restore there isn't a point far back enough before this problem. So its either i downgrade(which seems to be the only option) or simply stop using firefox, as internet explorer works perfectly fine. however running firefox with no scrip and adblock plus is the ideal browser customisation, which is why this is rather annoying.
so number 1 was the tinyurl theory and i must admit i was abit foolish to follow such a random link, but whats happened has happened.
2: basically there is a major disfunction with the latest firefox that has to with the addons i have included onto firefox and this seems to be causing a terrible effect on my system.
in a nutshell: firefox worked perfectly before upgrading to the new firefox and before i followed this link, the rest of my system is completely normal and virus and error free or so it says, Other browsers seem to work also. safe mode does not cure the problem.
Running on a customised Dell laptop, which is pretty midrange-toprange and hasn't been active long, so it has the general HD video card thats included in all Studio 15 Dell laptops.

I just recently (within a week of this post) built a brand new desktop. I installed Windows 7 64-bit Home and had a clean install, no problems. Using IE downloaded an anti-virus program, and then, because it was the latest version, downloaded and installed Firefox 4.0. As I began to search the internet for other programs to install after about maybe 10-15 minutes my computer crashes. Blank screen (yet monitor was still receiving a signal from computer) and completely frozen (couldn't even change the caps and num lock on keyboard). I thought I perhaps forgot to reboot after an update so I did a manual reboot and it started up fine.
When ever I got on the internet (still using firefox) it would crash after anywhere between 5-15 minutes. Since I've had good experience with FF in the past I thought it must be either the drivers or a hardware problem. So in-between crashes I updated all the drivers. Still had the same problem. Took the computer to a friend who knows more about computers than I do, made sure all the drivers were updated, same problem. We thought that it might be a hardware problem (bad video card, chipset, overheating issues, etc.), but after my friend played around with my computer for a day he found that when he didn't start FF at all it worked fine, even after watching a movie, or going through a playlist on Youtube.
At the time of this posting I'm going to try to uninstall FF 4.0 and download and install FF 3.6.16 which is currently on my laptop and works like a dream. Hopefully that will do the trick, because I love using FF and would hate to have to switch to another browser. Hopefully Mozilla will work out the kinks with FF 4 so I can continue to use it.

I have a CC Photography License and tried loading the new Lightroom cc but it will not open (only flashes the welcome screen for a split second) then goes blank. I tried uninstalling it, rebooting, etc. several times and it will not work on my Mac with Yosemite. Please help!

When I am on a phone call and I double click the button to go to my home screen, then open another application (usually my calendar program, Calengoo), my screen goes blank and I am not able to return to either the app, the phone, or the home screen. If I am speaking to a person, if they hang up then I am back to the phone application. If I'm leaving a message, I am unable to return to the phone screen to end the call, and have to wait until the other phone hangs up. I'm also unable to switch back and forth to look at my calendar if I'm calling someone about scheduling. This has only started happening since the most recent iOs update. I run into situations similar to this about once per day during the work week, as I use my phone is this manner quite often. While not life altering it is quite frustrating. Can anyone here help me figure out a way to avoid this? If it helps, I have noticed a general downgrade in overall performance starting two system updates ago (apps opening more slowly, closing unexpectedly more often, etc.). I have an iPhone 3GS with the latest OS update.

You can check the notification settings for message.
Settings>Notification Center>Messages>Alert Style
It should be on Banners or Alerts.
Settings>Messages> Turn on Imessage and send as SMS and below that "Blocked" to check if you have any numbers block might be blocking the message.
You can also do a hard reset by holding power and home till it restarts and release after seeing the apple logo.

The screen goes blank when signing out of Yahoo Mail. There is no error message. This does not happen with Internet Explorer. Not much else to say.

You may be having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you should make sure it's not coming from one of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. To do that easily and cleanly, run Firefox in [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode safe mode] and select ''Disable all add-ons''. If the problem disappears, you know it's from an add-on. Screen Goes Blank, Hard Drive Stuck, Cannot Re-Install, or recover
I have somewhat a bizzar problem that even with several years of IT experience I seam not to be able to figure it out. I thought I toss it our here at Toshiba community in hopes of people's collective experience shedding some lights on my problem.
I hava a 3 year old Toshiba Sattellite A305D with updated BIOS to version 2.10. It came with Windows Vista Home 32bit and I had upgraded it to Windows 7 64-bit last Christmas. It was working fine till last month that I started getting sporadic blank screens. Here is the symptome with details: screen goes blank, backlight it on, but there is no content on screen. At this time the Hard Disk Drive activity light is steady lit. Initially the problem happened intermitently and sometimes it fixed itself after few minutes and screen would come back on, but when it started to happen more often, I started to look for some troubleshooting. Some people suggested that blank screen could be due to bad lid close button being stuck or Windows power management's CPU power being set to 5%. I have tried cleaning the lid button and fixing power management but no luck. Then, I tried re-installing Windows from DVD, screen never went blank till after the first few steps of setup to the point that it says "Extracting Windows Files". At this time I started to think this is a hardware issue. I took out the RAM, I installed it on my MacBook Pro and used it for few days, and I had no problem. I even diagnosed them with Windows Memory Checker in the list of Recovery Options and no problem was detected. So, the next suspecious thing was the video card or display inverter. I tried connecting the laptop to an external monitor to test the screen's inverter, and same thing happened and external monitor went blank. I used Windows Recovery options and left it on that screen over night and nothing happened so I concluded the video card is fine. Next, I had turned off the Wifi and Lan, but nothing seamed to change, so I concluded those are OK as well. My last coclusion was that the hard drive is bad. I took the drive out and coonected it to my Desktop PC and ran disk utiility scan to check for bad sectors and none was detected. So, I thought the drive might be totally broken. I went to local electronics store and bought a brand new HITACHI SATA II drive and installed it. At first same thing happened so I gave up. Since I didn't have the recovery disks, I ordered recovery disks from Toshiba and tried that. Save thing happend and as soon as it started copying files, it blanked out. OK. So this time I ran a different recovery option and formatted the entire hard disk and zeroed out all sectors. That took approximately 3 days to finish for a 500GB brand new hard drive. Seams a long time.After that I could install Windows 7 64-bit from scratch up to the end. However, things got gorry again when I started installing Updates and driver packages. I had read about some problems with ATI drivers and Catalyst software with .NET updates, so I did not install any driver from update site and made sure all .NET updates are installed. I had to install the updates slowly chosing a few at a time. Otherwise same thing would happen. I got stuck to the point that I could not update anything. Windows files seamed to be corrupt and turning on/off Windows Features in controll panel was blank, so I had to re-install again. I did Re-install successfully using the upgrade option. This time I installed .NET updates first before any other updates. Then I started downloading all Toshiba drivers. Aazingly, the laptop worked for few ours without the symptom. I managed to install most of the drivers and updates including Value Added Package, HDD/DVD Rom Patch, Registry Patch, Sound, Modem, Atheros Wireless, and Catalyst. Up till now things were ok. Then I ran Toshiba Hardware update patch, and things got really messed up. Windows never booted again and symptoms showed right after boot tried to load WIndows. I tried recovery options but System restore kept getting errors too and I could not restore any more. Since Windows 7 Install and Windows Vistal recovery to Factory Default from recovery disk did not work, I thought maybe I should try Windows XP. So, I got a hold of my old Windows XP CD-ROM and I took a stab at it. Everything went fine till it started to copy windows files. This time symptom was different. I got one of those XP Blue Screen of deaths saying Hard Drive is bad and I must run chdsk /F. So, I concluded HDD is the problem. Ran CHDSK and no problem. I formated the drive again using DISKPART and the problem still exists. This is a brand new hard drive. What is the problem?Please include your full model number when posting problems on the forums. It can be found on the bottom of your laptop. "A305D" is only partial.
That's quite the problem. How often was it doing this? At some steps in your diagnosing, it seemed to get better, but I wonder if it was actually (temporarily) fixed, or if it didn't occur by chance.
Unfortunately I don't have an answer for you. Normally I'd suggest you get it serviced, but then you'd also be throwing more money at a three year old notebook when clearly you're knowledgeable yourself.
Hopefully someone in the community will have some suggestions. I have noticed that some people shy away from posts with large paragraphs of text. (I'm not saying that's correct, but it happens.) I'd suggest putting some bullet points at the top summarizing. If you feel like doing that, you can edit your message.
