HDMI - Port/cord advice needed

Ok - I have a new Dynex HD TV. I want to connect my Macbook Pro (Early 2011, Mountain Lion) to it, but am questioning myself on the purchase to make...
After doing some research I see that this requires connecting from the Thunderbolt using HDMI - My question is:
If I buy a cord that can go straight from the Thunderbolt to my TV like this one: http://www.amazon.com/HDE®-Mini-Display-Adapter-Cable/dp/B009K62HQ0/ref=pd_cp_pc _3
Do I really need a port like this: http://www.amazon.com/Tera-Grand-DisplayPort-Thunderbolt-Microsoft/dp/B006FKPLFS /ref=pd_sim_e_6
Or is the port an absolute necessity? Anything I'm missing? Thanks.

So there is no need for the port - just the cord...
Correct. The port is built in to your MBP. Th MDP end of the cable plugs into the port on your MBP, with the HDMI end plugging into your TV. Enjoy.

This is from Mumbai, India....Requirement of multiple HDMI port in TV is must, the same was not informed while selling the product to me....
Struggling for last 10 days to get convertor or splitter for using both cable tv and apple tv same time...now whenever I wanted to use Apple tv I have to manually switch the cable as my Tv has only one HDMI PORT.  This will really defeat the concept of Apple Tv product.
When enquired with the seller, it is informed to me that, this is the first time they are getting such issues...
Specifically when the products are marketed here, I expected apple would have considered or visualised the user issues in advance..
Accessories like converter, splitter, switcher etc if being launched along with Apple Tv product....it would have helped the customer like me...

hdmi splitters often have issues following the hdcp http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-bandwidth_Digital_Content_Protection

  • Mini dvi to hdmi cord and need audio

I have bought the mini DVi to HDMI cord and have no audio. I've researched and just wondered exactly which cord I need to buy. I've read so many but I really want a simply solution.

If you connect the MacBook using a Mini-DVI to HDMI adapter you will probably need to use external speakers or a 3.5mm stereo headphone jack to RCA sound plugs connected to a stereo system for audio if your TV doesn't have separate RCA input plugs for audio with the HDMI plug. The Mini-DVI to HDMI doesn't carry audio and there're no audio plugs on most TVs to work with HDMI since it's expecting audio with the HDMI. No MacBook carries audio unless you have the Mid 2010 model 7,1 with the Mini DisplayPort.

  • Videocard to boot windows giving priority to the hdmi port, i need to DispayPort

    Hello!
Yesterday bought a video card (N660 TF 2GD5/OC) and found such problem:
Go to the video card connected:
My TV: Samsung is connected via HDMI and my monitor: Dell is connected via DisplayPort
Video card to boot windows giving priority to the hdmi port. My tv I have to constantly keep it turned on to use the BIOS of the motherboard.
After loading windows become a priority monitor - as it should be. And to boot the operating system - my TV and I constantly have to turn it on in order to see the download PC.
Need a priority on my monitor. What do I do? Thank you very much for your earlier for the help!

Yes, IF you picked the right partition, as in the Boot Camp partition. If everything is done right you should be able to boot into the Mac side.
If you already booted into Windows and are at the point of installing the Boot Camp Drivers your already done installing Windows! Yea! All you need to do is just install the drivers and everything should work normal.
The Windows partition and the Mac partition are seen as two different HD's now as far as the computer knows.
You can use the Boot Camp control panel in Windows to boot into the Mac side and the Startup Disk in System Preferences on the Mac to switch to Windows. If you can't then press and hold down the Option key untill you get the boot screen.

  • Can Apple TV be used on a HDTV without HDMI port? If yes, what is needed for setting up?

I have a Sony wega HDTV, and it does not have HDMI port, does anyone know if I can use Apple TV on it? If so, how is it set up?

Current AppleTVs require a TV with HDMI.
You may find some dubious adapters out there which purport to convert to other formats.
If your Tv has VGA in and an audio input you might want to look at:

  • Am picking up radio signals through my HDMI port?

I have created a "home theater" experience in my living room, and all was well until yesterday...  I have an Epson 705HD projector hooked up to my MacBook Pro using the HDMI port.  For audio I use a Y-cable to connect my computer to my Sony stereo receiver.  This was a sweet setup and worked perfectly, but yesterday in the middle of watching a movie I started noticing a quiet (but noticable and annoying) radio signal coming through the stereo.  Seems like this only happens when I have all the components plugged in together...  Now I'm trying to troubleshoot which product is the root cause of the audio interference.
    - I don't hear the radio signal when I have just my laptop plugged into the stereo (HDMI port isn't in use)
    - I don't hear the radio signal when I everything plugged in except the stereo (I use headphones for audio, opposed to the stereo)
    - I hear the radio signal when I touch the HDMI chord to the comporter's HDMI port when the stereo is plugged in
I want to blame everything on the Sony receiver since that's the cheapest thing to replace.  Could it be the HDMI chord?  Something broke in the projector?  Perhaps my computer's HDMI port is messed up from too much plugging/unpluggin?
What's weird is this just started happening, never heard any static/radio noise before.  Help/solutions would be greatly appreciated.

Reminds me of my grad school days in Rochester, NY, when vinyl was the source of all music. I had a decent stereo system for an impoverished student, but imagine my surprise when I learned, and not gently, that the phono cartridge in my turntable was perfectly attuned to receive the radio frequency used by the Rochester public transit bus dispatcher, whose signal was very strong indeed. I might be grooving along to Jefferson Starship, the Grateful Dead or Pink Floyd, gently ratlling the windows throughout our apartment and adjoining houses, puffing on a little of this or a little of that, when without warning I would be jolted out of my chair and across the room by an ear-shattering interjection of static-laden and distorted verbiage about the University Avenue local D bus, whose driver had just been vomited on my a drunk and needed advice about how to handle it. It was a real mood-spoiler for me. I replaced my phonograph cartridge and the problem was solved

  • Where is my HDMI port?

Hello, I was looking to buy a HDMI cable so I can connect my MacBook pro to my HDTV so I can use my wacom tablet with my TV. Well I quickly noticed that there was no HDMI port. So I looked it up and saw that I should buy a DVI to HDMI cable. Well it didn't look like I had a DVI port either. I looked it up again and it looks like possibly a Mini DisplayPort. I am not positive on this though because the symbol next to it is different than mine. The one next to the Mini DisplayPort in all of the pictures looks like a square with lines on each side, while mine looks like a lightning bolt with an arrow at the end. So I got on apple support to see what the lightning bolt with an arrow port was called, or if it was the same thing and the symbol has just changed. I entered my serial number to make sure I pulled up the right manual. It told me I have a MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2012), so I pulled up the user manual ( http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/MacBook_Pro_Retina_QuickStart.pdf ) and zoomed in on the ports. This looks nothing like my computer. I bought it in august so it shouldn't be old. But these pictures show a HDMI port. On my MacBook Pro I have ports on the left, and a CD slot on the right. So I thought maybe it was the wrong manual so I went to my desktop to apple > about this mac > more info > support > user manual. This brought me to the same manual. What happened to the HDMI port? What is the port with the lightning bolt arrow? What kind of cable do I need to connect it to my HDTV? I'm just so confused now. Thanks a bunch for your help!

Only Retina Display MacBook Pros have HDMI Ports. The reason the MacBook Pro in the manual looked different is because it was a Retina Display MacBook Pro and you have the Mid 2012 15-inch MacBook Pro (Non-Retina). The port with the lightning bolt next to it is the Thunderbolt Port. I actually just bought a Thunderbolt to HDMI cord to connect my Mid 2012 13-inch MacBook Pro to my HDTV and it works perfectly! You have the non-retina MacBook Pro like me so you need this cord: http://www.ebay.com/itm/6-Thunderbolt-Mini-Display-Port-to-HDMI-Cable-for-MacBoo k-Pro-13-inch-MC374LL-A-/310432403148?pt=US_Video_Cables_Adapters&hash=item48473 68ecc

  • How can I connect my 3gen apple tv with HDMI to my bush LCD32TV022HD which does not have an HDMI port but does have 1)S-Video I/P, 2)Video I/P, 3) L

How can I connect my 3gen apple tv with HDMI to my BUSH LCD32TV022HD
This does not have an HDMI port but does have:-
    1) S-Video I/P,
    2) Video I/P,
    3) Audio Input (Left & Right)
    4) Audio In jack (for VGA and DVI source)
    5) DVI input
    6) VGA input

    Welcome to the Apple community.
The Apple TV doesn't officially support a DVI connection, however you may be able to get it to work. You will first need to check that your TV supports either 720p or 1080p as well as HDCP. If you are able to get the video working over the DVI connection, you may also require a DAC in order to connect with Apple TV's optical audio output to the TVs audio imput.
You may well wish to make sure that the DVI connection works before spending any money on a DAC..

  • HDMI port not working on my 760GM Mainboard

I think the problem is the PCI Express GeoForce 8400 Video Card is turning off my 760GM mainboard integrated HDMI port.  Is there a way to work around this or do I need to replace the card with one that had an HDMI port in it?

    >> Posting Guide <<
If you have a separate video card installed you will not have any output from any onboard video ports. You can try a DVI/HDMI adapter or get a card that has HDMI port.

    Hi @Almsoussi ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have looked into your issue about your HP Pavilion g6 Notebook  and connecting a monitor or TV with an HDMI Cord. The HDMI is just acting like a projector and should not make a difference which graphics card you are using.
Here is a link to troubleshoot the connection with the monitor with the HDMI connection.
    Hope this helps you.
    Thanks.

  • HT1586 Is it possible to connect my Apple TV to a TV withouth an HDMI port

I have just bought an Apple TV but my TV does not have a HDMI port - can i use it on this TV and if so what connectors do i need?

Hi @kateaird.Welcome to Apple Support Communities, and congratulation on your new Apple TV.
Unfortunately the latest generations of Apple TV only output video through an HDMI port. While the first generation also had component video and RCA stereo audio ports, they were removed in the second generation.
However, there are HDMI to 3RCA 3-RCA Video Component converter which you can purchase, to connect your Apple TV to a TV that does not have HDMI port.
    I hope that helps.

  • How do I connect my 27" iMac to the HDMI port of my LCD TV ?

How do I connect my 27"iMac to the HDMI Port of my LCD TV ?

    I have the 22" imac
beside it I have an 24" dell monitor
I used a miniDisplayport->DVi converter in the TB port of the imac
thats the best performance because DVI like Displayport are both digital interfaces
    same deal with hdmi really
so you need a miniDisplayport to dvi or hdmi depending on the inputs on your tv
and a cable and thats it
