HDMI Port, Wrong Color Space, Here MIGHT be the best solution.

So, I've been searching the forums, and couldn't find the solution. Today I finally found the fix.
I had been trying to find a solution to this problem where a monitor is attached to HDMI and the Mac Mini [late 2012, 6,2] thinks it is a television and uses the wrong color space.
Doing some google-fu, I stumble across this site:
http://ireckon.net/2013/03/force-rgb-mode-in-mac-os-x-to-fix-the-picture-quality -of-an-external-monitor
I followed the fix, and bingo.. I can look at my monitor again without my eyes bleeding.
Thanks ireckon.net, you saved me.
PS... if this solution has already been found, Forgive the double post. It seems a lot of people are still looking for it.

Fantastic post, tip, find... thanks!

if you work with own recorded sounds you might wanna have a music program where you want to work with samples, steinberg has got very good ones (so they say)... but their really really ( ²) expensive(that's why almost no one haves them), magix haves good ones too bu their more for 'unprofessional' use, ableton haves really good ones too and they're not to difficult to use (if you know a bit of those programs you learn very quickly) and if you don't get them, there is a sort of manual built in it which explains and lets you do things to start (basics)
i hope this helped, btw stereo speakers are always better if you buy good ones (no pc speakers), but if you don't think you need them, don't buy them...
so again, i hope you have some ideas now

  • Possible to get the color space and resolution from the .eps file

    Hi all,
We have using the InDesign CS3 5.0.4, windows, javascript.  We need to get the color space and resolution of the graphics (.eps) file using scripting.
The properties of the image like (actualPpi and effectivePpi will return the value only for the .tiff. and .jpg etc) but it will not return the .eps file resolution values.
Kindly give me the suggesting for the decrepancies.

... open them programmatically in PhotoShop, read out resolution and color space ...
On opening them in Photoshop, it asks you "what resolution shall I use, and what color space shall I apply?"
A single EPS may contain any number of embedded bitmaps, with any horizontal and vertical resolution, and in any color space. You can use only a few of these with Illustrator -- and even only one at a time with Photoshop --, but other programs allow just about every possible combination.
Not to mention procedurally generated bitmaps, also possible with PostScript.

    Done. Thank you, Allan.
The sparse image article you sent a link to needs a little updating (or there's some variability in prompts (no password was required) with my OS and/or Disk Utility version), but it worked.
Phew! It would have been much more time consuming to use Time Machine to recover all my photos after repartitioning the drive.

  • Advice on what might be the best networked external hard drive to create my own cloud storage?

Anyone have any advice on what might be the best networked external hard drive to create my own cloud storage? That way I can have access to all my stored files, songs, pictures and most of all movies on lets say my laptop or iPad. Since there is not very much storage on the iPad. I want to be able to access my hundreds of movies that I have from in my home on my network or away from my home as long as I have an internet connection. I know there is a Seagate one and a Western digital one, does anyone else know of any others or have any advice on which is the best? A plus would be for an external storage device that I would be able to access my movies through my apple to tv? Please help been looking for almost a year and cant make up my mind on what product to buy for what I am trying to do and create my own personal cloud storage.

Or, I might have to do the old technique of using the Pen Tool in Illustrator and tracing over the filligree.
That's probably what I would do. If you're not well-practiced in Illustrator, this will be a good exercise. Just place the image you have, lock it down (either the object, or you can put it on it's own layer and lock the layer) and start with the pen tool.
Everyone probably has their own method, but I like to start by placing all the points I think I'll need as corner points (click, but don't drag to make the point curved). I then pick the Direct Selection tool (white arrow) and then the Convert Anchor Point tool. If you click on a point, you can drag it to be curved, but if you hold the Command key (on Mac OS) it will temporarily switch to the Direct Selection tool, which will allow you to move the point if necessary. Others would just make curved points as they go, but this is how I like to do it.
For the pointy shapes on the end, you could probably make one then rotate a copy. For the curvy parts in the middle, you may be able to make one and scale copies, or use the blend tool. As you go, you can switch the visibility of the placed graphic on and off to see how your creation looks on it's own, and when compared to the original.

  • How to connect apple tv when the hdmi port on my tv is connected to the hdmi modem

I just got at&t uverse tv service.  The modem is connected to the hdmi port on my tv.  I bought a 4 in 1 out hdmi connector box, but don't know if this will work.  I've tried plugging the apple tv into one of the in ports, but I can't get it to work.  I've tried plugging both the modem and the tv into the out box and other components into the in ports, but it hasn't worked.
Has anyone ever run into this problem where the tv hdmi port is used and apple tv requires an hdmi port?
    thanks,
    Joan

I use this device as my 4 splitter and i get connection all devices working then after a few hours i get an error. can i get some direction on how to place each device on this one splitter? the Uverse box and TV only has one HDMI plugs, I put the TV HDMI from TV input to splitter Output, then I put Uverse cable in port 1 on the splitter, then appletv in port3.
I need some direction if you can provide any.

  • HP Envy 17 1050e HDMI port broken - do I have to replace the whole motherboard?

The HDMI port on my hp envy one day just fell out - I assume it has been pulled or pushed too hard. It looks like the ports are directly connected to the motherboard, can I somehow just stick it on again or buy it as a separate part or do I have replace the whole motherboard to make it work again? Any instructions are very wellcome!
    Thanks!

You need to bring that to a computer shop that has someone with a soldering station and good soldering skills.  The will also have to ascertain how much damage was done to the mother board.  Those things just don't fall out.  It have to be ripped out. If the pins just sheared, a new piece could be soldered back in after they unsolder the parts of the pins left behind.  If the mother board is damaged in that area, you may not be able to use HDMI. It will depend on them being able to repair the broken traces and you would have to be in a good shop for them to do that.  That may be time to search eBay.

  • (New to C# here) What is the best way to return false in a function if it cannot be executed successfully?

In Javascript or PHP you can have a function that could return, for example, a string in case of success and false in case of failure.
I've noticed (in the few days I've been learning C#) that you need to define a type of value that the function will return, so you need to return that type of value but in case of failure you can't return false.
What is the best way to achieve this behavior and is there an example I can see?
    Thank you in advance,
    Juan

Juan, be aware that returning null won't work with value types, such as an int, which can't be null. You'd have to use a nullable value type. A nullable int would be declared with a "?", such as:
    int? someOtherFunction(int param)
    if(something goes great)
    return param * 42;
    return null;
And you have to use it like this:
    int? result = someOtherFunction(666);
if (result != null) // you can also use result.HasValue
// it worked, do something with the result
// if you're doing math with the result, no problem
    int x = result * 2;
// but if you're assigning it to another an int, you need to use this syntax
    int y = result.Value;
Before nullable value types came along, for a method that returned an int, I'd use a value of something that wouldn't normally be returned by that method to indicate failure, such as a -1.
    ~~Bonnie DeWitt [C# MVP]
That's something very very important to keep in mind. Can save you from a lot of headaches!
So if you have an int function and it might return NULL, if you are doing Math with the return value you can use it directly, but if you're assigning it to another variable you have to use .Value?
    Thanks

  • If zen Micro had more space it would b the best mp3 player ev

if the Zen Micro had more space... it would THE best mp3 player EVER... HANDS DOWN!... hint hint
I want the Zen Touch...(my bday is tomorrow)...and I am getting the FM remote thingy too. I would have bought the Zen Micro but I have 20.4 gigs of music which I am compressing right now....5 gigs is too limiting. I would LOVE it if the Zen Micro had more space! Only then would I get rid of my Touch.....

The Zen Micro uses a different type of storage to the Zen Touch, unfortunately at the moment the sizes of the storage media don't allow for something as small as the Micro to store 20GB. The Zen Touch uses a hard-dri've.
Thanks for the comments though, I'll be sure to pass them on.

  • Editor here, what's the best format to use for iMovie?

Hi all.  I edit professionally, using Final Cut among other products.  I haven't touched iMovie since...I can't remember when.
We have a client who is going to be using some of our footage for a project they will be editing themselves, using some version (unknown at present) of iMovie.
Assuming their computer is new, and they have a fairly current version of iMovie HD, what's the best format to transcode our original files to?  I could always default to DV anamorphic, but would rather give them HD files.
    Thanks for your help.

If they have a current Mac and are on iMovie 11 (current) or iMovie 8 or 9, give them Apple Intermediate Codec.
This works well for HD files.
Other formats that would work: Motion JPEG-A, Apple Animation Codec, h.264, DV, HDV.
ProRes 422 will only work in iMovie if your client has Final Cut Pro installed on the same machine (and thus has the necessary components).

  • My goal is to backup my pictures and movies and then delete them from my computer to open up more space. What's the best way to do this?

Let's say I let time machine backup my computer, then I delete most of my pictures (that are now backed up) to make room on my laptop's hard drive. The next time Time Machine backs up my computer will it overwrite the old backup with what it currently sees on my computer? Will it loose all of those pictures, because they're no longer on my laptop?

Yes eventually or sooner by large changes to your boot drive.

  • Is "remote access" is the best solution here?

    Dear;Helpers
    1st .. Thanks you anyway
that's my Topology in the figure

    Required:
To access the local website  from the tow Ranges.
    Suggestion:
To enable “remote access” for IIS (the local site) , so we can visit it on the Internet, or whatever the solution.
    Note: Static IP is Supplied.
i know i can do it, if you helped me ..
    need the steps..
A friend advised me to make a "remote desktop" instead of "enable routing & remote access"
    could i?
    Thanks all anyway

    Hi,
Based on the figure you provided, I would like to know if the 192.168.3.0 network is a branch office in different location.
->To enable “remote access” for IIS (the local site), so we can visit it on the Internet.
If computers of the 192.168.3.0 network want to access the local website in 192.168.2.0 network through Internet, you should set up VPN connection. If you want to use remote desktop connection, the remote clients also need to connect to the 192.168.2.0 network
through Internet at first. And if the remote access clients connect to the 192.168.2.0 network through VPN, it can access the local site without other operation.

  • Photoshop wrong color with every screenshot

    hi,
i'm using ps cc 2014, and have the problem that every time i make a screenshot from photoshop, the colors get pale. the same problem occurs even in illustrator. the color settings in photoshop and illustrator are the same.
System is a Win 7 64 Bit. the problem only occur in Adobe Tools. thx for help!

    Hi guys, your'e great!
the problem seems to be that the wrong color space was assigned to the display, and all the files from photoshop and illustrator have no color space assigned. first i add the sRGB IEC61966-2.1 to the display, and set this as default profile. sorry all dialogs are german :-)
    no changes here
for photoshop i changed the settings as shown:
in illustrator are the settings now:
now, each time i open a file (PNG, etc.) in photoshop or illustrator, i have to assign the sRGB color space manually, but then, there is no color shift when i do screenshots an paste them back. after assigning the sRGB colorspace to the display inside the windows colormangement, it works fine in photoshop, but not in illustrator. After changing the settings for illustrator as shown above and assigning the sRGB colorspace manually to the file when opening, then it works fine in illustrator.
thanks for your help, you saved my day!!!

  • MPB 17" and what Adobe RGB color space coverage I might expect from it

    Hello,
I am photographer and currently PC user. However, I plan to dive to the Mac’s world.
Before I become a Mac user, I have few questions.
Now I think about MacBook Pro 17”, i7 2.66MHz, 8GB RAM, 500 GB 7200rpm HDD and antiglare screen.
I plan to use additional monitor for photo editing.
I did search on google about *NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M* and *Adobe RGB color space* it covers, however, it gave me no results related to Mac. The only information about this card and Adobe colors I found is that Sony Vaio use this graphic card and in some forums, one say it covers 98% and in other 100% of Adobe color space which made me wonder what type of screen Vaio have.
    - is MacBook Pro 17” good for photo editing?
    - what % of AdobeRGB color space I might expect from it on my external screen or what % of sRGB colors space it delivers?
    - Is it possible to calibrate Mac’s native screen and external one, use both at the time and have different profiles on each?
    - Tell me anything that would stop me thinking about MBP for photo editing?
Thank you for your time reading this and hope to find the answers here.

You should consider posting your questions in the Pro Application section for Aperture. You will bump into more photographers there than you will here. But I will make an attempt at answers:
    whats about Adobe color space?
No, the MBP screen will not encompass the Adobe Color Space. In fact, few desktop monitors are capable of this.
does the native MBP screen display full color range the video card is able to produce...
There really is no limit to the color extremes, which define a color space, as established by a graphics card. So your question is not a well formed question. An old ATI Rage card with 8-bit output would reveal the same color gamut as would the NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M connected to the same display. The gamut is determined by the attached display, not the graphics card.
...or connecting external monitor to it’s mini display port would bring much wider color range to my eyes?
Yes, certainly the potential for that exists. Notebook screens are usually a compromise and can't be expected to compete with a high-end desktop display in many categories, including color gamut. But whether it would bring a "much wider color range to" your eyes is hard to say. It depends on what type of external display is in use.
