HDMI Settings with AppleTV 2.0

I just noticed that you can switch the HDMI output between 4 settings, (Auto, RGB High, RGB Low, Yc...((component basically))). Does anyone know which of these settings is the best to use? I'm using the ATV with a 720p LCD and didn't know if any of these settings would scramble my TV's brains. Thanks.

Following the AppleTV update I lost my stable 1080i HDMI signal and instead *now have a blinking / flashing screen* where the video feed goes black for 1 second and then the AppleTV comes on for 1/2 second, and repeats indefinitely. Now the HDMI out will not work at any resolution or setting.
I can operate the unit normally provided I can stand watching the blinking screen.
Tested the component (RGB) out and it works fine. Swapped out the Monster M1000 HDMI cable and reseated it. Cycled the TV (Dell W4200 42" Plasma), and powered down the AppleTV via standby... No luck.
Unit is brand new. Apple Support requested an exchange so they could study the unit.
The flashing TV is major bummer. Am concerned since I was going to get a Gefen 4x1 HDMI Switcher to manage my multiple HDMI inputs into the TV, however now that the update has rendered my HDMI wonky, I have to further research what hardware is compliant with AppleTV's HDMI port.

Hi all, I'm trying to connect my macbook pro to Sony Bravia tv using Kanex Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Cable with Audio Support , when connected to the HDMI on tv I get a picture of the mac screen saver ( the starburst ) no video/audio,any ideas? thanks, Derek

Dave I'm glad to say that it works perfectly but I'm embarrassed to say that my 12 year old nephew hooked it up in about 10 minutes.
If you have the Kanex Mini DisplayPort cable it will work, what confused me was changing the display settings in System Preferences,
and dragging the mac screen from the mac onto the tv. Sorry I cant be more helpful but you have the right cable now you need a 12 year old nephew.
    Good luck Derek

  • Z97M GAMING no hdmi signal with DVI converter

My monitor has VGA/DVI only (Samsung SyncMaster 213T), I have a HDMI to DVI converter in the DVI port, this works with the HDMI out from my laptop.
Am putting together a Z97M/4790K rig. I get no signal at the monitor from the Z97M's HDMI out, if I connect it to a TV I do get a signal.
Am using the same (short) HDMI cable and adaptor with both the laptop and the new Z79M, used the same cable to connect the Z79M to the TV.
So the cable and converter are good (they work with the laptop) and the Z79M HDMI port and cable are good with the TV.
Anyone have any idea why the Z97M HDMI output wont display on my monitor? (Any bios settings to make the HDMI signal more compatable?)

Yes, to be clear, there is no GPU. When I say the Z97M's HDMI out I mean the output from the Z97M motherboard. I have tried it with a second screen, the TV (it worked).
Logically one of two things must be happening... either the Z97M's HDMI signal isn't making it through the DVI/HDMI adaptor (when the laptop's signal is), or the monitor cannot process the Z97M's HDMI signal (when it can process the laptop's).
HDMI and DVI signals are the same, so the adaptor is just a plug converter ('square plug in round hole') and unlikely to be the issue, especially as it works with the laptop.
But both the monitor and laptop (which work together with HDMI and the DVI converter) are >5 years old. The Z97M is very new and could be it's HDMI output just isn't compatable in some way with the (relatively) old monitor.
Hence am wondering (for example) if there are any Z97M bios settings which might make it talk nicely to the old monitor.
Be interested to hear if anyone has had issues (or even success!) using the HDMI out with DVI monitors, especially old Samsung SyncMasters ?

  • Video/Sound delay with AppleTV on higher resolutions

I have a new Sony 55" RP SXRD HD TV (1080p max res), and just hooked up my AppleTV today. After syncing it with most of my video library and some of my music library, I tested the video appearance. My initial setting was 1080i, and I experienced major video/sound synchronization delays (similar to older DVD players where you'd hear what the person was saying 5-8 seconds before they said it on screen). This drove me nuts, so I switched down to 720p res, and while the movies played okay, the TV Shows and the Music Videos left much to be desired, and still had the same synchronization problems. To remove these issues, I finally changed the res down to 420p, but now, when I watch pretty much anything (photos, album art, TV Shows, Music Videos, and Movies), the resolution is horrible, and pixelates on my TV.
I'm trying to pinpoint this to find out if it's the TV, the connection (HDMI), or the AppleTV. Can anyone offer some advice on what to look for, what might cause this issue, and how I could fix it? Thanks so much in advance!

Sounds to me like it's a problem with upscaler. Does the Apple TV upscale? If it does, then it's the upscaler in the Apple TV and is probably a software problem that can be fixed with a firmware update. But it's weird that if it's a consistent problem with the Apple TV upscaler that these forums aren't just soaked in complaints about it. Could be only a problem with really large, say 46" or greater TVs -- that might explain the low number of complaints.
If the Apple TV doesn't upscale, then it's the upscaler in your HDTV. Prior to about six months ago, when all HDTVs got good upscaler chipsets, some HDTVs, especially the older, larger models, had absolute trash upscaler chipsets -- even the expensive quality brand models got some bad upscalers. All kinds of problems from all input sources, but not always with every device. How old is your HDTV?
For your sake, I hope it's an Apple TV upscaler problem with larger dimensioned HDTVs, as that Apple can fix for free with a firmware update. Next best choice is your terrible upscaler chipset in your HDTV supports firmware upgrades via USB or network cable and there is a firmware update out that fixes your HDTV's upscaler problems. Because the final, worst alternative, if there is no update for your HDTV available, or your model doesn't support firmware updates, it's the really bad option: drop another couple grand or more for a new HDTV of the same large dimensions.

  • Is a Samsung TX-P2734 TV compatible with AppleTV?

Is the Samsung TV model # TX-P2734 compatible with appleTV system? The online appleTV manual lists the TV picture quality (Enhanced definition or Hi-Def) and the resolution qualities that it is compatible with, but the Samsung TV manual I have does not list the TV's resolution or picture quality.

Thank you to AC for finding the correct TV on Line. And Thank you Jules for your reply. I went and bought the appleTV - the black one - anyway (figuring I'll work it out somehow. Even if I have to buy a new TV. This about doing apple FaceTime with my granddaughter.) and am now trying to route it through my Sony "Digital Audio/Video Control Center" multi-channel AV receiver model #STR-K900. The AppleTV transmitter has an HDMI port and an Optical Audio port. The Sony AV receiver has 2 HDMI input ports. I have tried the appleTv HDMI in both AV ports but am just getting a blue screen on my TV (telling me there is no input signal). Does the appleTv have to be connected directly into a TV rather than be routed through the AV receiver?

  • Toshiba Model 40E220U - Not HDMI friendly with my Wii U

My dad has a Toshiba HDTV (Model 40E220U) which is almost a year old from now. While it is HDMI-friendly with everything that is HDMI compatible, it is not being very friendly to my Wii U video game console, but only when it uses 1080p resolution graphics. When I play my Wii U at 1080i, it works perfectly fine.
The problem with my dad's TV is that when I use my Wii U at 1080p resolution, I sometimes get 2-second screen black outs, and some static lines that follow up with the black-out problem. I tried resetting the TV to factory settings to solve the problem, but it didn't work. I even updated the TV recently, but it still didn't make it Wii U-friendly.
To those of you who have a Wii U like me, are you facing this same problem? I also need Toshiba to know that our 40E220U TV model needs a new update to fix the problem I'm having with it. Thank you.

  • How do I transfer my MacBook Air to my wife so she can sync her iTunes account and other settings with her iPad Mini?

How do I transfer my MacBook Air to my wife so she can sync her iTunes account and other settings with her iPad Mini?

You can change the account shortname to whatever you wish to use.
As you can see from my example above. Once you click on the Create User button a new account will be created.
She will need to get her own Apple ID setup so when she starts with iTunes she can open her own iTunes account unless you both want to share the use of the same Apple ID. This can create a bit of confusion if you have your own iPads or iPhones or iPods. As you have discovered it's pretty much one iDevice with one Apple ID.
As for the iTunes library that becomes a more complicated issue.

  • Any Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter with audio for macbook pro mid 2009

connecting MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2009) to Hisense TV with audio?!?!!?
    hello everyone.
if anyone is familar with successfully getting the older macbook pros that dont support audio out to stream and preform digital audio on a TV or has any helpful information that will get me familiar with trying to successfully stream audio and visual. and can PLEASE HELP ME in any way to understand what they know and teach me how to solve my problem id really appreciate it.
i want to connect my MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2009) to my Hisense LED LCD TV, ModelNumber:40H3E  and getting digital audio sound from my TV as well as video, but have no clue on how or where to even start to successfully pairing the two and getting sound.
I own a MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2009) this MacBook model doesnt support an HDMI port. My MacBooks model has the Mini Displayport which supports video out but does not support audio out. Can someone help me by telling me exactly which Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter with audio will support my model MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2009) and exactly what HDMI wire do i need to buy that will successfully preform digital audio and sadisfying quality visual through TV?
i have NO expierence with the proccess have NO knowledge about any of this or these Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapters with audio. i have no idea what kind of adapter and HDMI cord to buy that will give me sound from my tv for my type of macbook. '
im not familar AT ALL with any of this so i hope me giving you my MacBook Pros make and model and my TV's model number will be enough information for someone to help me.
just please give me anything you can on this topic
    thank you so much,

With a 2009 MacBook Pro, you need to use two connections to your TV: one for video and another one for audio.  The miniDisplayPort on the 2009 models does not support audio, so you need a separate audio cable:
miniDisplayPort adapter for video - I use the Apple miniDisplayport-DVI adapter + a DVI-HDMI cable like this one
audio cable for audio - use a 3.5mm male stereo-to-2xRCA male cable like this one
Connect the miniDisplayport adapter + DVI/HDMI cable to your MacBook Pro's miniDisplayPort output and the HDMI input on your TV
Connect the audio cable to your MacBook Pro's audio out and your TV's audio in
The only potential gotcha is if your Hisense TV requires audio via the HDMI cable when you use an HDMI cable.  The H3e user manual is unclear about this.

  • How can I play music on my macbook pro (OSX Lion) through a Pioneer receiver. I've connected them with a mini display port to HDMI cable with audio support bought at the Apple Store, but there's no sound coming through. thanks

How can I play music on my macbook pro (OSX Lion) through a Pioneer receiver? I've connected them with a mini display port to HDMI cable with audio support bought at the Apple Store, but there's no sound coming through. There are 4 HDMI-in ports on the receiver - BD, DVD, DVR/BDR and audio. In my system preferences for sound, the receiver doesn't show up as an output option. Can anyone please advise. (ps, this is my first time posting a question, so I hope I can find your answers!) thanks, JP downunder

For sound, try the audio output port and connecting to the RCA  audio input ports on your Pioneer receiver.  Use something like this:

    Which TV do you have.
You may wish to try the following:
Press and hold the menu and the up button simultaneously on the remote for six seconds, the Apple TV should then begin to cycle through the various resolutions available to it at 20 second intervals.. If you see a picture appear up on your screen, use the remote to scroll down to the OK option and select it.

  • How do I get to settings with a non-functioning home button - iPod touch5

My daughter dropped her iPod touch (gen. 5) and now the home button is not responsive.  It will not 'click'.  It is not stuck, it seems to have lost a piece under the home button and now is very loose and constantly down.  I am trying to use the 'home button app/screen setting' but I can't get to the settings screen because her iPod is in an app that I can't shut down.  There is no way to go 'home' or to 'settings' with out the home button.

Without the Home button being functional enough to access Settings and to turn on the Accessibility function which could provide an on-screen Home button, there is not much you can do.
Take it in to get it repaired.
