Hdmi sound issue

I had to buy an Gefen HDMI Detective plus for my previous 2010 MacMini server with Snow Leopard in order to avoid the reseting of the audio output to the internal speakers every time I changed the video output from TV to projector or shutting down the TV set just to listen to music.
But I have the same issue with my brand-new 2011 MacMini Server with Lion OS, and the Detective Plus seems not working.
Again, I am starting to re-initiate the macmini when I want to change devices.
Has any one had the same issue?

  • HDMI sound issue on Satellite L500D-149 (with ATI HD3200)

    Hello,
I'm fighting with my issue for two days but I'm not able to resolve that... Maybe you will able to help me...
...I bought HDMI cable to connect my laptop to TV. I've got the video but no sound. I tried to re-install drivers -audio and video- from Toshiba, Realtek sites, also tried install AMD Catalyst (looks like ccc is not fully supported by my laptop) but no success... (maybe I've used incorrect drivers..)
...In sys tray I can see HDMI device as default so everything seems to be fine. However if I try to test HDMI device in "Control Panel/Sounds" I've got message: "Unable to play testing signal" or something like that..
...tried to find anything about Audio in BIOS but there is nothing about that.
I believe it's a driver issue but I'm not able?? to find the correct ones.
Adding few pictures how it looks like now (I have Slovak win so not all words are eng )

    FYI:
    TV: LG flatron m237wd
Laptop: Toshiba Satellite L500D-149 (with ATI HD3200)
    OS: win 7

Is nothing interesting there in "advanced settings.." ...
@as***: yes.. volume is OK on TV ;) ... and yes... When I play movies on TV, pic are OK but no sound.
It's really frustrating... I've reinstalled drivers many times and now I don't see HDMI Output in Realtek Manager and also have problem with voice generally. Today I had a pic on TV and sound was playing via Laptop (at least). I thought it's working somehow finally but when I tried to change display settings to "Extend desktop" I've lost sound. It was working with when was using cloned displays. So when I've change that, in sys tray I can see a message like "no output sound device is installed"... So I tried to change display settings back to original (cloned) but I have the same error now....only default windows sounds are played via laptop. Reboot of laptop didn't help. Have no idea why it was working for few mints...
do you know what drivers should I use? that are tested and working with this model?
    Update:
..I found out that the problem described above appears when HDMI output is recognized in Realtek Manager and is set as default output. So when I can find HDMI in realtek Manager, i have a message "no output sound device is installed" in sys tray.. however, default windows sound can still be played via laptop... If I could change default from HDMI to Speakers, I should have be able to play also movies sounds via Laptop... However, I can't change it... not sure why
    Update2:
.. ok.. when I disable HDMI driver in "Computer Management -> Device Management", all sounds are go thru Laptop... At least, I can have good pic on TV and sounds from laptop... However if you know how to make sounds play via TV as well I would be veeery happy ;)

  • Macbook Pro Retina, HDMI Sound issues

When I connect my macbook pro retina to my SONY TV via HDMI the picture works but I can't get any sound.  I went into the sound settings and selected SONY but it tells me the select a device has no output controls.

This happened to me the other day, with an LG TV. Although it's not en eegent solution, I found that unplugging the HDMI, turning the sound up on the laptop, then plugging it in again worked. Until Apple releases a fix for the OS, that's the only thing I've found to work.

  • Why does the hdmi sound out stop working once I start using eyetv?

I upgraded to Lion and now I have a few problems. I use the Elgato EyeTV to record television on my Mac Mini. I have been using it for a few years. Now once I watch something on my EyeTV the hdmi sound output stops working and I have to reboot to be able to hear audio from iTunes or anything other then EyeTV. Why is this happening and when will there be an update to fix it?

There were numerous audio issues with OSX 10.6.8 that
were carried over into Lion and not resolved.  Issues
with EyeTV was just one of them.  May want to check
the Snow Leopard forum for workarounds, if any for your case.

  • Mac mini 2011 HDMI audio issues

What are the known issues with HDMI audio with Lion and the new Mac minis?
I'm in the process of swapping out an older Mac mini that was connected to my home theater (Pioneer SC-05 reciever, Pioneer TV), with a new 2011 i5 Mac mini.  The old Mac required use of a minidisplay port to HDMI adapter, and a toslink adapter to get audio to receiver through an optical cable.  Previous setup was working fine, but with the new 2011 Mac mini swapped in with the direct HDMI connection to the Pioneer SC-05 receiver, I'm not getting 5.1 audio.  The video is fine and is being passed through to the TV, but the receiver is only doing dolby prologic audio, even though the movies are Dolby Digital 5.1.
I'm using Plex .934 on the Mac.  Audio on the Mac is set to HDMI.  Plex is set to Dolby (AC3) digital capable receiver, etc.

Hi All, I have the new 2011 macmini to replace the 2010 version. I had issues with HDMI sound as well, but it turns out the issue lies in having AND the HDMI cable in AND a toslink/headphones cable.
In the 2010 version you could select the Sound output to go via HDMI or Analog.
In the 2011 version (if you have plugged-in a cable in the headphones) the HDMI sound output is impossible to choose. It is only selectable when you have unplugged the headphones cable. So what is the use of the Output settings if you cannot select anything if you have more than 1 output.....
The guy form AppleCare told me this is a firmware bug that 'should' be solved.....
When I unplug the headphones and start a movie in Movist, I have DTS and DD. With VLC it does not work, but that has to do with the upgrade to Lion (see the VLC forum).
I assume the firmware upgrade will come soon otherwise I will be VERY dissapointed in Apple quality this time and will certainly stop buying new Apple gadgets when they come out. As this was the reason why I switched from Microsoft to Apple......

  • Apple TV after upgrade only video no sound issue.

So I had no issues with ATV until yesterday(10/25/2013) when I updated ATV with the latest update .Since then , whenever I play a video on my iphone 5S and airplay it , the video plays well on the TV  but there is no audio at all  . I tried changing the Dolby setting s and the Audio Output settings , but it doesn't seem to work .
Never had this issue earlier .
Only restarting Apple TV and my Router seems to solve this issue for now .
Is there any fix for this issue.

    Hi @31danny
I understand that one of your notebooks is not playing sound using HDMI, using all the same hardware. Also that you have performed some of the standard checks. I am happy to assist with this.
As to why the one is working and the other is not, is impossible to say yet. Like any complex device, there are small variations between the components, and in some cases that can result in differences between how one performs versus the other. So no two pieces of hardware will be exactly the same.
Anyway, I would recommend you check through this page and since you have already done many of the things within, I would look to the options further down, and start with the hard reset:

Let me know if those steps help at all, and if not, any other information you can provide.

  • ATV2 Sound Issues - known workaround?

    Hi there
I'm also having still some sound issues with my Apple TV 2 (using latest firmware and iTunes Release running on a Mac mini Server)
The ATV2 is connected by HDMI and Toslink to a DENON receiver. I do have a library of movies converted from DVD using Handbrake with standard Apple TV 2 preset. This was including a AAC Prologic Stereo downmix audio track and usually a AC-3 passthrough 5.1 suround audio track. Since the 4.4 updates i don't have Dolby Digital sound anymore and optical output is only working when disconnect HDMI.
With the older firmware 4.3 i did not had any problem!
I found this workaround to reenable Dolby Digital Sound output:
1.) Go to the audio track selection menue by pressing select button, switch to audio selection menue switch manually to the second audo track still having stereo downmix (should be the AC-3 track.
2.) Repeat procedure to switch back to the first audio track -> ATV switches AC-3 to HDMI output!
This works on all my handbrake coded movies including aac stereo and ac-3 5.1 audio tracks. It has to be repeated when changing movie.
This is clearly a newly introduced software bug, please fix it!
    Thanks

Well fact is, that all movies have correct sound AAC and AC-3 tracks using handbrake 0.95 standard Apple TV 2 preset. None of these movies had any issues with previous ATV2 4.3 firmware releases.
Furthermore the Issue can be corrected by simply switching audio track selector in ATV2 twice novadays!!!
While investigating the problem I had also the idea of some mistakes in the movies itself. So i used Subler and mediainfo to check the video files. Then used Quicktime, iTunes and VLC to examine content and could really not see any problem with m4v files.
VLC can correctly switch audio track because it can decode AC-3 DD 5.1 streams internally.
Quicktime locks like decoding both audio stream simultanously (has no switch to select) causes strange echo.
iTunes shows the two audio streams in menue but won't let you switch to dolby digital (greyed out) implies, that it neither can passthrough nor decode AC-3 DD 5.1 tracks.
I also saw, that with the 4.3 firmware i could have sent DD 5.1 to the optical output, even with connected HDMI cable, which is definitely not the case anymore.
    Still need to be fixed!

  • Lenovo Yoga 2 Windows no hdmi sound

Hello,i have a little problem with my Yoga.If i connect my Yoga with my TV via hdmi, i have no sound (screen works)I hve this problem under Win 8.1 and also with Win 10.Under Sound Options is only the Speaker (Intel SST Audio Device) availabel. Nothing with HDMi Sound or Digital sound.Right Click - deaktivated devices is set.I have checkt the HDMI Cable,it is ok.There is no sound. just video. An driver update doesnt solved the problem.I hope anybody can help me.sorry for my bad english.Best regards H.

You can run some tests from here to check if its a motherboard connection problem -
    http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/lenovodiagnosticsolutions/downloads
Could be that just a wire is loose inside the laptop, As you say you are a intermediate/advanced PC user, you can open it up and check for loose connections. Here is the manual link -
    http://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles_pub/lenovo_yoga_2_pro_hmm.pdf
Lenovo's warranty can be extended, i believe if you were having issues, you should have extended it. Sorry about the laptop condition now.
My suggestion is to take a look inside and see if it seems like a fixable problem. If not, buy and use external speakers.
I am sure there are no manufacturers who would fix a laptop without being paid if it is no longer in warranty (and problems can happen with any laptop)

  • Upgrade to udev 177-3 caused sound issue

My upgrade to udev 177-3 resulted in sound issue. Now during kernel load as soon as udev loads it blacks out the screen for a few sec and then a I hear click noise in right speaker and and after udev is loaded I continuously get a hissing noise in one of the speaker(right). I have tried removing snd_hda_intel module and reinstalling module but it does not change anything. Interesting thing is the speaker that has the noise works when I play something. volume in the other speaker is very low and almost I can't hear anything on that. This is happening from early morning today after I upgraded to udev 177-3. Anybody experienced similarr issue or know how to solve this?
Although the upgrade went through without any error, I see following errors in errors.log

uograded to udev 178 and kernel 3.2.1-2 but I still hear noise in one speaker and no sound on the other speaker of headphone. Noise starts at the time of udev load during kernel load. Looked through many postings of forum but could not make any progress. Uninstalled pulseaudio, unloaded snd_hda_intel and reloaded but it did not make any difference... any ideas or direction?

  • HP Pavilion dv6 Windows 7 Beats Audio Sound issue

    Hi-
I am using HP Pavilion dv6 with Windows 7 and has Beats Audio installed. It is about 9-10 months old Couple of times in the last few months, the sound just screached and then the volume on the speakers went down tremendously. I have-
    1. Confirmed that the latest drivers are in place
    2. Confirmed that all audio setting options are set right
    3. Confirmed that the device is working correctly (Through device manager)
2-3 weeks after the first such instance, the sound came back normal without any setting changes. Now I am facing the same issue-
    1. Sound is very low on- Speaker, headphones and HDMI output
    2. Sound is very low on- Skype, Yahoo messenger
It appears to be an hardware issue- if anyone has encountered such issue or know of any potential solutions, please share it.

Thanks for getting back to me with that information!
I've got a couple of things for you to try.
First, try updating to the latest BIOS version F.1C. Download and install F.1C. Your computer will restart on its own during the installation. Allow it to restart and test it for sound issues. If you are still having the problem, move on to the second option.
2nd Option You have the latest audio driver version 6.10.6381.0 installed. There are two versions listed on your driver page which means some units may work better with one version or the other. Don't make any changes to the BIOS version you just installed, but roll back to the earlier audio driver version.
    To do this:
    Open Device Manager
Expand Sound, video and game controllers
    Double-click on IDT HD Audio
    Click the Driver tab
If the 'Rollback' button is enabled, click that and restart the computer.
If the 'Rollback' button is not enabled, click Uninstall, do not restart the computer
Download and install 6.10.6345.0 offered on this link and restart
Let me know the results when you get a chance

  • Fixed my sound issues in KDE (no sound except for system events)

First, I'd like to say that I am by no means an expert and what I have below represents nearly a week of installing/reinstalling arch and trying various things to get my sound working correctly in KDE. In fact, yesterday I decided that I was just going to use mint because, even though I don't like it, at least the sound worked for me. I did decide to give it one more try this morning and finally was successful.
My system has an AMD A8-3850 processor, which I never would have bought if I had known all of the compatibility issues I would end up having with it. My problem was that I would hear event sounds in KDE (such as the start up sound) but I would get no sound within my browsers and flash and probably elsewhere. Also, even though I was hearing the system sounds, kmix showed my volume at 0% and that my device was muted. Trying to select the device in kmix didn't accomplish anything at all. Because of this, I had a feeling that the problem was that my sound was defaulting to my HDMI sound, which turned out to be right.
I'll try to be as brief as I can about the process I followed.
The first thing I did was get asoundconf from the AUR. I was then able to set my non-HDMI sound card as the default.
    johnr@bitstorm ~ % asoundconf list
    Names of available sound cards:
    Generic
    Generic_1
    johnr@bitstorm ~ % asoundconf set-default-card Generic_1
    johnr@bitstorm ~ %
From that point, I installed PulseAudio and worked my way through the PulseAudio page on the arch wiki. After which, I was able to bring up the PulseAudio Volume Control (pvaucontrol) and turn off my HDMI sound all together.
Still, my sound did not work, though. After some searching I came to this page: http://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Softwar … ktops/KDE/ which basically said that my kmix wasn't compiled with with pulse audio support. After a search for kmix on the AUR, I came to this package: kdemultimedia-kmix-git
After installing that, I reboot and all is right with the world... or at least my sound in KDE.
So that's it. I am sorry if this is poorly written, I do not write things like this very often. I was so happy, though, that I was actually able to fix it and I did want to share since I imagine that I am not the only one to have this problem.

    Hi @shayanaijaz
    Thank you for your reply.
Here is a link to HP Notebook PCs - No Sound from the Speakers (Windows 7).  You can skip any steps you have previously done.
If after installing the original drivers from the recovery manager you still have an issue with the sound, I suggest you do a recovery back to factory.
HP PCs - Performing an HP system recovery (Windows 7)
During the recovery you will see an option to backup your personal files to prevent data loss.
HP PCs - Restoring Files that were Backed Up Using HP Recovery Manager (Windows 7)
You could also test the audio card just to rule that possibility out.
HP Notebook PCs - Testing for Hardware Failures (Windows 7, Vista)
My last suggestion is to contact HP support for assistance.
Please call our technical support at 800 474 6836. If you live outside the US/Canada Region, please click the link below to get a support number for your region.
