HDMI Sound Sync Problem

I've rented 5 movies and watched a couple of podcasts via Apple TV. In 5 of the 7 screenings, we've experienced problems with the sound failing to sync to the video. It's particularly bad with the Apple Keynotes. I have Apple TV connected via an HDMI cable to a Sony 1010 HD receiver, which is linked via HDMI to a Bravia 52" TV. I've tried direct hookup to the HDMI port on the TV and wound up with the same syncing problems. The receiver has a sync adjustment that I can use to get it close to sync but it's a pain and you have to stop watching the movie to **** around with it. Any suggestions?

I had an audio sync issue over HDMI when I had Settings / Audio & Video / Dolby Digital Out set to 'On' (which I had to do to get my receiver to detect the Dolby Digital Optical signal). Turning this setting to 'Auto' or off fixed my sync issues when using the HDMI audio stream.

  • Sound sync problem I don't understand

    Hi. First post.
I have video with audio from the camera captured into iMovie. I also have separate audio from the same event through a firewire mixer into garageband exported as aif. (One of these days I'll get it all working into final cut).
My goal is to use the "firewire" audio with the video track. The video has a 10 minute gap in the middle, but the audio is continuous.
So I synchronize at the beginning, no problem. I then cut the extra audio piece out of the middle, and synchronize the beginning of the second part, no problem.
The first part is in perfect sync, beginning to end. But the second part goes increasingly out of sync the further into the timeline we go. I don't understand why the first part remains in perfect sync, but after cutting a little, the second part can't be sync'd up with the video track. Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance,
    Howie

I am using Final Cut Express to do the editing.
The camera video/audio was captured from a Canon XHA1 in 4:3 SD mode into iMovie, and then exported to a quicktime movie, DV/DVCPRO-NTSC 48khz.
The "high quality audio" was captured via firewire into garageband, edited for levels on different tracks, then exported to itunes, then converted to aif, 48khz.
Both were imported into FCE. I rendered the audio for playback. I don't have any red lines in the sequence (I'm a beginner at FCE).
The out of sync problem was not part of the original video clip. It is with the external firewire audio BUT only with the second part of the video... i.e. the second video clip from iMovie. The iMovie capture had two clips, exported together into the single quicktime movie that was imported into FCE.
So maybe it has something to do with the two different video clips in iMovie... but I don't know what the difference could be.

  • Video-sound sync problem

I have the problem that the Canon EOS 5D Mark II does not sync video and audio from the start. The sound comes before the event. I have to adjust the audio channel by moving it forward when I edit in Premiere Pro CS5. Is it a bug in the software for the camera? I have firmware version 2.0.7. The result is the same whether I use the built-in microphone or a wireless connection. Maybe not a problem with Premiere. Have more than I have had this problem?

  • Sound sync problem - unsolvable?!

    Hi,
Quite a basic one I suppose: I'm editing a video source with a separately recorded sound source of the same event. The sound of the footage (HDV unfortunately) is 48kHz, while the separate source is 44.1kHz, so obviously if I sync them up at the beginning, before long they're out of sync again.
Is there any way around this? Can I transcode (if that's the right word) the 44.1 up to 48? Or should I work the other way around, bringing the 48 down to 44.1?
Is there a solution to this problem? It kind of buggers the entire project if I can't sort this out!
    Looking forward to your help,
    Steve

Common solution is to convert the 44k to 48, using iTunes, or you should also be able to do it in FCP...might depend on what format the 44kHz file is.
From FCP, you could do an 'Export as Aiff/16bit/48kHz', then import that file for use in the project.
I don't use the iTunes method enough to detail the process, but I remember that if I was using say...CD Audio (44kHz), I'd simply set iTunes preferences to automatically convert CD Audio to AIFF/48kHz...something like that.
    Hope that helps,
    K

  • IdeaTab A2107 Movie sound sync problems

Hi Guys, I have just bought the Ideatab 2107a, and first impressions its a well built device. However I have downloaded 2 differen tmovies from google play to see how the run as I will want to watch them on a forthcoming flight, but when I tried it the sound is about 15 -20 seconds out of sync making film unwatchable. Any suggestions welcomed.
I am using the standard google Play Movies v 2.4.14. I have downloaded same films on to my 10" Motorola Xoom and there are no problems..........Help !.......and thanks in advance

    Hi Terry,
I contacted Lenovo and agree they are as much use as a chocolate teapot (  I doubt they would even understand that!)
I have now installed MX Player 1.7.17 and found that this works well with streamed video.
I have other 10" devices for business use, and this 2107 was just going to be used as a convenient device for watching movies on flights and quick check of emails etc, and to be honest the build quality size and price ticked the boxes especially with 3G
I Find it really sad however that the complete lack of customer care and support from an IBM company.
I also have totally redundant icons for Lenovo APP shop which cannot be installed....future support ?......not likely !!

  • 24fps and 25fps on one timeline. Separate sound sync problems?

I'm editing in CS3. Most of the footage is in 25fps. But some in 24fps by accident. I have a way of changing the 24fps footage into 25fps but will this cause problems syncing sound, which was recorded separately?

Well, there's a couple of way, but from what people have said, the easiest way is to increase the duration of the 24fps footage by 4% to bring it to 25fps. Otherwise, people have suggested that some of the newer versions of premiere pro will sort the problem out automatically by matching whatever frame rate to the sequence pre-set.
Also, why is it necessary to match the frame rate of the clips ? Does it affect the editing process or the final product in any way ?

  • HDV exports have new sound sync problem in Quick Time

    Hi
I'm on FCP 5.1.4. Prior to a few weeks ago, I've had no issue with exporting HDV files and playing on QuickTime. Now, regardless of the Quicktime Conversion I use, the exported video lags the sound. I went back to old projects and exported. Same thing. All the clips play fine in FCP. QuickTime is 7.5. I've read elsewhere people have had to downgrade to prior versions of QT. Anyone have a similar problem or have an idea what the root cause might be?
Specs of captured footage (pretty normal)
    Capture video: 1440x1080
    Copressor: HDV108060i
    Video Rate: 29.97
    Audeo: 48hz
Hope we can get some help here because I know others have the problem--and like me--are dead in the water on projects.
    Thanks,
    Phil

Figured out a solution. For those of you who have equipment/software similar to mine, FCP 5.4.1, IMAC G5 and QT 7.5. My project had multiple layered soundtracks. Sending to QT with any kind of compression didn't work. I wanted to ultimately get to an IPOD format. Here's what I did:
    Export project as self-contained movie.
Open QT (don't just click on the file - it'll launch FCP).
Open the reference file you just made.
It'll open, but probably stutter because size of raw file; doesn't matter.
    Stop QT from playing.
Choose Export; then any file type you want that's smaller.
    I chose IPOD.
    Works flawlessly.

  • Strange sound/sync problem after encoding in CS4

Hi guys and gals, wonder if anyone can help me out on this one?
I'm running PPro CS4 on a purpose-built matrox rtx2 system, working mostly from DVCAM.
I've done a complete edit, cutting various interview soundbites over  music to make a testimonial montage. After doing the complete audio mix,  everything sounds fine and dandy when I preview it after rendering. The  problem occurs when I output the film using AME to a variety of  different formats. Where previously I had precise edits on the timeline,  the audio cuts sound to be a couple of frames out. For example, one cut  occurs just after the line 'ideal product for our needs' and sounds  exactly as it should on the timeline, but on the outputted file it  sounds like he says 'ideal product for our nee...'
Same thing occasionally happens on music mixes, when I cut to the beat  to use different sections of the backing track and crossfade through, it  sounds fine on the timeline but then after I output the file then cuts  the sound off the beat and the music sounds like it goes slightly out of  time on the transition.
I've even tried rendering it out as a wav file, but that doesn't work either.
Is it something I'm doing wrong? I've checked and it's all 48k sound  (and if it was a sample rate issue I assume it would appear on the  timeline as well). Or is it another to add to the long list of problems  we've had with the matrox setup?
Any help will be greatly appreciated!
    Cheers,
    Kev

    Kev,
Could it be that the preview of the timeline is inaccurate as opposed to the outputted file?
Let's check this out. First, is there a red line above your Clips in the Timeline, just below the Timeline Ruler? If so, hit Enter to Render those Clips for smoothest playback. Note: Audio can need Rendering too. Does this help?
If not, set the WAB (Work Area Bar) over a small section of the Timeline, though one that exhibits the OOS issue. Export to your desired format/CODEC and test. Do you get OOS in the Export?
For a bit more on Rendering, see this ARTICLE.
For a look at the WAB, see below:
    Good luck, and please report,

  • HDMI sound output problem with gtx670

    Hello again!
I have recently purchased a brand new Samsung TA550 LED monitor to use with my Mac Pro desktop. My Pro posesses a GTX 670 graphics card with (obviously) an HDMI output channel. The thing is, when i plug the hdmi cable on the card and on the monitor and configure the monitor for the appropriate video settings, there is no audio. Then I go to the system preferences ----- sound------ output, and there are no options for hdmi or my tv/monitor.
Does anyone know whats goin on?
    Thanks

It is flashed? or it is a straight PC card. And while there is support (you probably want to check other threads and sites and wait a day to upgrade to 10.8.3) some PC cards will not act and behave the same as say under Windows.
I would contact MacVidCards (ebay and MacRumors forum) and see if he can flash it or knows more.

  • Sound Sync Problems

Ok, I'm editing a project at the moment.
I was using two different cameras to film it, and a mini disc player to record the sound. It was a music concert and I had a direct input from the microphone into the mini disc player.
Now that I am editing it, I've put the sound from the mini disc over the video. It starts off fine and in sync, but by the end of the first act, about 25 mins on, the sound is out of sync by about 2 seconds. I can only assume this is because either the camera or the mini disc was recording faster or slower than the other one.
Does anyone know how I can correct this?
    Thanks
    Chris C

Another possibility is to measure the length of the video clip (right click the video clip in the timeline and read its Duration value in the contextual menu itself) and then open the Speed dialog for the audio clip (select the audio clip and Modify/Speed) and apply the new length to its Duration field; the audio clip length will fit the new duration. Obviously: 1. you can do the reverse (read the audio duration and apply it to the video portion), 2. for this procedure to work the video and audio clips must be unlinked (but probably they already are since they are coming from different sources).

  • Sound Sync Problem

I have a problem that I have not found in the forums so am posting...
I have created a project in Motion and exported to a QT file. I noticed that in the QT version that about 3/4 of the way thru the sound timing is off - by about 2 seconds or more...
When I return to the original project the timing is right on the money.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks,
    Tim

    Hi Peter,
So you are saying export just the video then create a new project and add the video back into that?
Not sure I understand what you are suggesting...
    Thanks,
    Tim

  • HT1338 When will Apple fix the sound sync problem in PhotoBooth video?

    Suggestions online are
    (1) reboot with cmd/opt/p/r  This is not a solution but a temporary fix, a sign that Mountain Lion is not working well!
    (2) reset the sound config in Audio settings.  This works briefly, again a temporary fix.
Isn't it time that Mountain Lion was working?

so that means.. from itunes..or not from itunes?
sounds like 3rd party music then..
SO i would delete them from the itunes library and re add them to the itunes library.
TO test this out you should delete ONE SONG or ONE ALBUM and test that ONE SONG or ONE ALBUM only to see if they sync to the device..
are you using a windows or mac? Updated itunes?
    need details on the Configuration...

  • Sync problem converting videos with SU

Hi there. I have owned my Creative Zen Vision:m 30gig player for about 2 weeks now. So far I have really come to love this device. I have learned how to put album art on all my favourite albums with ?Album Art Downloader? and I am using Media Monkey to manage and sync my mp3 files from my pc to my Vision:m. I have even loaded all my photos onto the player and bought the accessories pack so that I can hook it up to my television ? it works perfectly.
My last challenge (so far) was to figure out how to make this video thing work as I have about 00 videos which I have downloaded from Google video via a plugin for Mozilla Firefox called ?Video Downloader ?. The videos from Google video are encoded into something called a .flv file. I have done A LOT of reading here and other places on how to convert the various formats into formats the player can understand. Apparently the program ?Super? is THE thing for converting almost anything into well anything. I tried it and found out I could select ALL of my videos and select a common setting for them all to be encoded into. My first reaction?. sweeeeeet! The videos did not seem to have lost much quality and when I loaded them to the player, it would play them nicely? or so I thought.
It did however slowly but inevitably become clear to me that despite my most fierce attempts of denial? there was a sync problem with the audio. Not a huge annoyance but still an annoyance, something which I knew I couldn?t li've with. I therefore rushed to the program and tried to shuffle the settings a bit, changed the codecs changed the containers but nothing would work. The sound sync problem would still be there, lurking. The problem was also present when converting high quality xvid movies.
This is where my creativity and patience has come to an end. This is where I give up and crawl to you begging for help. I in order for you to help me, I will try to help YOU recreate my scenario.
I have a video, perhaps a little morbid, where the sync problem is very obvious after you have converted it with super, here is the link http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-7233445036972827652
I use a plugin for Firefox to download videos from Youtube, Google video, etc. called ?Video Downloader?, here?s the link
    https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/2390/
The settings I use for Super are the following:
Output Container: Avi (For Pocket Pc)
    Output Video Codec: Mpeg4
    Video Scale Size: 320*240
    Frame/Sec: 25
    Bitrate: 336
    Hi Quality: ?Checked?
    Stretch It: ?Checked?
    Sampling Freq: 22050
    Bitrate kbps: 28
Ok if you manage to download the clip from google video (easy) AND convert with Super into a format fitting for the Zen Vision:m without the sync problem? well my joy will break any ?happy-meter? out there
Ps. I did actually find a way to fix the sync problem, I checked the ?Directshow? for the ffmpeg but the picture was sort of lagging and looking REALLY ugly so that actually created a problem much worse than the previous one.
Thank you for your time and patience

I am not sure I can help you but I do have one pice of information. The sync problems arise from converting to the wrong frame rate. If you can choose the frame rate for the videos you convert to then you can test different rates and find the right rate. Keep in mind that there is currently no way to determine the approiate frome rate without teting it.

  • Sync problems with ATV per HDMI and optical out

Have some sync problems with ATV (actual), TV is connected via HDMI, sound goes over optical cable into DAC (Rega) and then to the amplifier, when using only TV-sound everything is fine, switching to the external speakers brings up a little delay, around 1/10 second. Any chance to fix this?
    Yogi

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
I believe this delay is caused by the DAC, I don't think there is anything you can do about this.

This is actually the peer support forum for Toshiba USA. While you are still welcome here, yours would appear to be Toshiba Europe model, perhaps from Hungry. In the future, you may want to consider using the Toshiba Europe Forum.
Given your problem, I would try to reload your latest Toshiba supplied display driver, as it is this driver which handles HDMI sound. While we are at it, let's reload your Intel Chipset Utility as well. Download these two drivers, these are .zip files, so you will have to extract the .exe files and double click on the .exe files to install, rebooting after installing each one, in this order:
    Intel Chipset Utility
    AMD Display Driver
After the second reboot, test your HDMI sound again.
Please let us know what happens. Good luck.
