HDMI stopped working

I have an envy dv7 with and a8. HDMI out was working just fine a few days ago and now it won't work at all. Something has changed. The notebook makes a noise acknowledging that the cable has been connected but the TV displays a message that says the resolution is not supported. I am trying to connect to my Samsung smart tv that I always have. Before today it would connect simply by plugging in the cable. This is VERY frustrating, please help.

Hi @tower1313
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I am happy to help you with your HDMI issue. Firstly can you post the full product number and the current operating system you are using?
How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?
Is the Windows Version on My Computer 32-bit or 64-bit?
Have you tried a different hdmi cable? It is possible that the cable or one of the connectors has gone bad.
Or have you tried your notebook and cable with a different external monitor?
However in the absence of those, you can look at these.
Connecting a TV or Monitor to your Windows 7 PC using HDMI
Connecting a Monitor, Projector or TV (Windows 8)
Resolving HDMI Display and Sound Issues (Windows 7 and Vista)
Let me know if this helps.

  • HDMI stopped working on my HD DVR yet AGAIN!

I've been a FiOS Internet customer for years now and I love it! However, it's been less than a month since I signed up for FiOS TV and I'm already repenting for it. I signed up because of the "superior" HD delivered via Fiber Optics etc. Yet from the first day, the technician warned me that the HDMI will not work because of a BUG in the motorola DVR and there is no solution for it. If it works, great, if not, sorry about your luck!
Well, day 2 and the HDMI stopped working, green screen on my 61" Panasonic LCD HDTV and all kinds of messages! FiOS TV support were lame, but they came back to replace the HD DVR. I come home to find the technician replace the box with a similar defective piece and hook up the system using component for video and composite for audio! HORRORS! The sound quality had degraded beyond recognition, and the picture quality on my large screen was noticably bad.
After many hours, and many phone calls with the tech support, I was assured that Verizon/Motorola was releasing a firmware upgrade that would fix the HDMI malfunction. I waited for April 14th, (the upgrade release date) but there was nothing different. Finally, they sent another technician with a "new and improved" box that would work! No such luck. He went on to prove that my HDMI cable that had worked flawlessly with DirecTV for 2 years, was faulty. So he replaced the HDMI cable, got the box to work and was off.
Well, 2 days later, back to square one. Green screen. HDMI integrity compromised message etc. By now I was so frustrated that I was ready to cancel the stinking "superior" HD from FiOS. More phone calls, no progress. This time round they had the nerve to tell me that my TV was defective and I should contact Panasonic to figure out why HDMI does not work! Talk about shifting blame from this faulty buggy DVR to a TV that has worked flawlessly for years with DirectTV and DVD players etc.
As I read this forum and others on the net, it seems that this issue has bugged customers since 2005! Pretty much every other DVR out there is either superior or has more hard disk space than the verizon motorola box! Has anyone else here had these issues? I've tried looking at the other threads, but the forum does not allow me to reply to those so I can't find if anyone has actually seen Verizon do anything about this defective DVR nonsense. I feel I've been cheated into paying top dollar for an obsolete piece of junk. Please help if you can. A very frustrated and sitting-on-the-fence customer!

Also, blaming Mototola for the issue is not the solution to the problem. If Verizon is using Motorola DVR's and charging it's customers for those boxes, then it's Verizon's problem. Verizon should push motorola to get their crap working. I'm not a motorola customer. I'm a FiOS TV customer. As far as I'm concerned it's Verizon that's supplying us defective DVR's and causing us heartburn over the issue. It's not our job to get mororola to fix the DVR, it's Verizon's job to do that.

  • HDMI stopped working - "compromised" - happened for the 2nd time

I have a Motorola set top box Model: QIP7232-P2.  I have an older Sony HDTV (circa 2004) with only one HDMI input.  I have 3 different things that use HDMI including the cable box.  When I got the 3rd, I bought a cheap HDMI switch off ebay and hooked it up to my TV
Shortly after I got my HDMI switch my previous set top box stopped working (no HDMI video, but had audio via HDMI, and component video still worked) and Verizon support didn't know what to do so they sent me a new box.
After that I blamed the switch and decided to just swap cables by hand instead.  Today I was swapping cables in and out again and the same thing happened.  An error message came up that said the HDMI was compromised and I should just use component cables.
I see this thread from 2009 which seems similar: http://forums.verizon.com/t5/FiOS-TV-Technical-Assistance/HDMI-stopped-working-on-my-HD-DVR-yet-AGAI...
Are people still having this problem, or is it because I have such an old TV?  Do newer TVs work better?
Rebooting and resetting the box doesn't seem to get it back into a working state.  Is there any way to get it back to a working state?  Am I stuck using component cables unless/until I replace the box, and then back in the same pit the next time a cable gets pulled out?

    1.   I've used one of the HDMI switches in the past. It was highly rated on Amazon, and wasn't cheap.  It still  caused weird and unpredictable problems.  Unless you want to spend the money for a high quality switch, I would suggest not using them.  You may get lucky, but I don't trust them.
    2.  Turn both the TV and the source off before you remove or insert an HDMI cable.  There are some who say that's not necessary.  I prefer to be safe.

  • Macbook Air (mid 2012) Thunderbolt to HDMI Stopped working

    Hey Guys,
I have searched this issue and have found several threads some 50+ pages long but I could not find a soluition. I currently have a macbook air 13" mid 2012 model.
Problem: I was using a thunderbolt to HDMI cable to watch movies on my SONY Bravia tv and it was working fine one day and after I updated my software to mac OS X 10.7.5 it stopped working. All i get on my TV is "no signal" and the screen on my MBA starts to flash blue every now and then.
I took it into the genius bar and they plugged it in to their system and it seemed to work, so the guy said to get a new cord.
I ordered a new cord and tried it at home and its still not working. After searching the forums I see that alot of others seem to be having the same issues and I am pretty sure its related to a software issue seen in the thread below.
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3196192?start=75&tstart=0
Anyone have a similar issue and found a fix??

A new Mac is in warranty for 1 year from the date of purchase. Why not use it?
You may have to take the computer to the Apple store to have it checked out.
All hardware related issues should be brought to the attention of Apple.

  • Satellite P300-1FN TV - HDMI stopped working...

Dear Anybody who knows more than me about this, so around 6billion people...
I recetly purchased both a Toshiba 32'' plasma TV (regza i think) and Toshiba Satellite P300-1FN.
I also purchased a HDMI cable and have been watching filthy movies from my laptop on my phat 32'' TV for a couple of months now. Lovely stuff.
After around 1 month, the HDMI port 1 stopped working. It just wouldn't pick up any signal from the computer, so i remove the cable and placed it in the HDMI port 2 on the back of the TV. Worked fine. (so i guess it's not the cable at fault) Again for about a month, now that's stopped working too...DA-DA-DA-DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUM...
Before, when i plugged it into the computer, both screens would turn black for around 3 seconds while they adjust the resolution, then the same image would appear on both. Now when i plug it in, the computer screen just 'blinks' followed shortly by the message on the relative HDMI TV channel 'no video signal', if i remember correctly.
    WTF??
    Cheers, Allan.

    Hi
Please don't be mad on me but you must understand it is user-to-user forum and if someone can help will probably write something and try to help. There is no reason for comments like the last one.
Anyway, I have good experience with HDMI and connection to the TV. I have Satellite P200D and Satellite A300, both with HDMI port. I have used both of them with my BRAVIA LCD TV and it works properly. Brothers Satellite P300-1GL doesnt made problems either.
So it is not easy to say what is wrong there but I can say that this behaviour is definitely not normal.
In my opinion you should contact nearest Toshiba service and let them check your notebook.
What else you can do? Not much, just test it eventually with some other LCD TV to see if the same happen.
    Sorry for this late posting.
Lets see if someone else has some comment to this.

  • [SOLVED] Audio over HDMI stopped working? (Intel/i915)

My audio over HDMI was working fine until recently and I can't figure out what's stopped it from working... My configs haven't changed and aplay -D plughw:0,3 /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav gives no errors, but no sound can be heard. There are no errors/messages in dmesg either.
My graphics card uses the Intel i915 chipset (Asus laptop).

Yeah I checked and everything is fine... this is really weird!
I've tested audio over HDMI on windows, so I know it's not the cable/HDMI port. I've looked through my pacman.log (I tend to update daily) and the only thing I can see which could affect it is a kernel update and intel-dri. I tried downgrading those and re-tested, to no avail.
I also installed pulseaudio and pulseaudio-alsa before it stopped working. This could have broken it, but I've since uninstalled them and replaced /etc/asound.conf with my original, so that rules those out; unless there is something else that pulse could have broken?
    Cheers

  • HDMI stopped working on both my macs

Ive got two late 2012 mbp's. First, one of them stopped detecting external displays. My other mac worked perfectly fine with the same adapter.
So i took it to the local store and they tested the mac with other adapters and display combinations. They told me HDMI doesn't work at all.
THEN my other mac (which worked perfectly fine) stopped detecting external displays to. How can this be? Can a adapter or HDMI cable
    render a port useless?
    Please help.

Haha, may have been logic board issues? Are they connected to the same power outlet? It could have fried the ports

  • Windows 7 HDMI stops working after login in normal boot. Safe modes work

Hi guys, I have a problem and I am a complete dummie at this. (Sorry in advance for bad english and hardware/software knowlegde.)
Here's what happened: Yesterday evning I turned off my PC after playing my games. Today when I got home from work my PC looses HDMI connection after "STARTING WINDOWS" screen. That's when my monitor says "No Synch" which means it cant detect a HDMI. I have to hold in off button and restart and then i get to this black classic screen where I can choose Safemode etc. and Normaly. Turns out I can enter safe mode and HDMI works, but i've tried normaly many times and it wont work!
So I've been reading all day and haven't found any working solution(lowering my resolution etc.) So it was suggested that I needed to u-innstall my video drivers and get them again. Or even get older versions first and then installing new ones along with the latest windows update. My problem is that I have no idea what video card I have and in safe mode I can't see it in CONTOL PANEL display settings either.
I'm playing on a little **bleep** tv monitor JWC something btw.
So I'm stuck not knowing what video drivers I need and where to get them, if that's even the problem to beginn with?
I hope someone out there are smarter than me, haha! Thanks Guys!

I'm sorry I thought you were using a notebook and the monitor was your 2nd display device... So it's your primary display, right? And safe mode works...I don't know then. Is there any auto adjustment button on monitor or similar function in monitor's menu?

  • HDMI stops working on Satellite L750

    Hi there.
Will be happy if someone can help with this issue.
I connected my Satellite L750, PSK2YA-04K010 with Windows 7 sp1, (64 bit) to my TV today using a brand new HDMI cable. It worked fine for a while and then the display on the TV went dead. I could still manage to get the display on the laptop to work.
I used Fn + F5 to see if I can trouble get it back to life but it did not work. After a long struggle, I just could not get the TV to work again with HDMI.
I checked to see if I have all the latest drivers and all seem OK. I re-installed the nVidia video drivers and then tested it again. Same thing happened. It work for a while and then died on me again.
I noticed that I have a version 1.5 BIOS but can't find a site where it lists the latest BIOS update.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers
    Hein

    Hi Xaver
Thank you very much for your email. Yes, I did try another HDMI port. The TV has 3 x HDMI ports but the same thing happend on the other port.
The strange thing is that it works fine for a while. For example, I would use the FN+F5 to display a video clip on my laptop display and also on the TV display together. This will work for about 10 min and then the TV display goes black and will refuse to come back to display the output on the TV screen. I have noticed that the NVIDEA Control Panel will only show one display is connected after when this happens. Usually it will show both displays when I start off in the NVIDEA Control Panel.
The laptop display will continue to play the video on its display even after the TV display has gone black.
I have turned the TV on/off to see if the display comes back but no luck. I am pretty convinced that it will work for a few minutes if I reinstall the NVIDEA driver again (This is the latest driver on the Toshiba website).
I have looked at the 'Service Station' program and this program claims that there are no updates required.
Would be nice to know where I can find the latest BIOS upgrade for this model laptop.
    Thanks again.

  • Hdmi sound on my mac mini has stopped working after I upgraded the OS

I just upgraded the iOS on my Core i5 Mac mini to 10.8.5 and my hdmi sound on my monitor stopped working. I have tried rebooting and adjusting the Audio midi settings and nothing seems to work. I know the mac mini speakers are working and the monitors speakers are working. What do I try next?

Resetting the NVRAM / PRAM, as per > About NVRAM and PRAM
    1. Shut down the computer.
    2. Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    3. Turn on the computer.
    4. Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.

  • MiniDP to HDMI: Sound stopped working

    Hi everyone,
I have a Macbook Pro and a Mini Display Port to HDMI cable and the sound output just stopped working. I used it last night and it worked perfectly. Now it recognizes that it's connected to my TV, and the display is fine, but when I go to System Prefs > Sound > Output and choose the TV, nothing happens (the sounds stops on my laptop, but nothing comes out from the TV). I've tried it with two different TVs (and I've used it with both of them multiple times before), but nothing worked. I'm planning to try it out with a friend's Macbook Pro to see if there's any difference, but in the meantime, any ideas?

I have found a workaround. I seems like if I unplugg the headphone jack, which is normally connected to my stereo, I can select HDMI as sound output in system preferences. It really makes no sense, I hope they fix this in the next release.
