HDMI to VGA for apple TV

I have a Proscan 4:3 TV that has a VGA input that I have used in the past.
For AppleTV I am using component input now and It works fine at 480i, albeit with lower quality than I would like.
Does anyone think that there is a way to get the 1080i through HDMI to drive my VGA input?
Thanks
Michael

i'm not aware of one off the top of my head, but if one does exist, it would surely be more expensive than the many Component Video to VGA transcoders that are out there.

could someone tell me which adapter micro HDMI to VGA is suitable for Nokia Lumia 2520 please?

Hi, melpa. Welcome to our community. There's no particular brand, but it should be HDMI-D. You may try checking the stores near your place for the price and availability.

  • HDMI CEC support for Apple TV

When will HDMI CEC support arrive Apple TV? HDMI CEC is a must have for every HDMI connected device. Apples TV remote is horrible and with only one remote the TV experience will be much better.

Yes, not much more to do than just tell Apple what we want. If you did find this thread in search of CEC support for the Apple TV? Please take the time to give Apple feedback, where you ask for this feature. Using this link:

  • Recommendations for an HDMI switch/hub for Apple TV 2012

This seems to be a sticky issue - and probably made worse by the release of the new Apple TV (March 2012) edition with 1080p.
I want to buy an HDMI switch/hub so I can plug three devices (Laptop/XBox 360/AppleTV) into my one free HDMI port - so I don't have to keep unplugging/re-plugging cables in.
I did some searching, and found a number of highly recommended HDMI switches/hubs including the Portta 3to1 switch (990 4+ star reviews), the Kinivo 5 port switch (267 4.5+ star reviews) and more.
However the naysayers in the reviews frequently comment on incompatibility / 'always on' behavior with Apple TV.
Having looked around the community here - it looks like the MonoPrice 5x1 switch used to be the favorite recommendation - but unless I'm reading the manufacturers specifications wrong - it doesn't support 1080p.
All I want is a decent quality switch that won't keep auto-switching to the wrong device.  I'm completely happy (and maybe, if the always on stories are true) if the switch has NO auto-switch capability and just has a remote or physical button.
    Thanks
    Adam

Thanks for the quick response Jon.  Hmm.  Your right, I tracked down the newest version of the device on monoprice.com and it does support 1080p and 3D.   I read several reviews that suggested otherwise - but must have been referring to an old model.  (One was on cnet.com)   There were other people in the community talking about 1080p issues as well.  Looks like the new model is called MonoPrice 5x1 Enhanced.

  • Apple TV - HDMI to VGA

I just bought an Apple TV 2 and am trying to hook it up to a VGA projector to Airplay stream my mirrored iPad. What is the best converter from HDMI to VGA?

There are certainly some that will defeat HDCP but strictly we're not supposed to mention them - in any case i've never used one so couldn't give a recommendation.
It's really frustrating - the paying customer gets their usage curtailed to prevent them copying - something I'm sure 99.9% of customers would not have the time or interest in doing - those who want to distribute illegal copies will find ways of doing so beyond the capability of home users as many of these outfits will be criminal groups with resources to match.  When you think about it why would a consumer want to waste time and energy producing an inferior lossy analogue copy of digital media which they would have to record in real time then potentially convert to an appropriate media format later.  No, in this day and age the person who wants an illegal copy will find a software solution to rip a disc, buy a pirated disc or get an illegal download.  Win, win, win for those who don't pay, but a hole in your wallet if you do pay and limited usage options.
In the days of vinyl audio I liked to own my albums - CDs have little similar value to me in their physical presentation and merely clutter - what we really need is for all the media companies to get together and offer subscription based eat as much as you can music/video/films/games via the internet at a REASONABLE monthly price.  Won't be perfect for all where internet is poor, but the studios are so behind the times when it comes to providing what the customer wants and can easily be delivered.

  • Philips or Samsung Monitor for late Mini? HDMI or VGA?

I am back to Mac and Apple. I owned several iMac, then left Apple for Windows, but I am definetely back to Mac now! I bought the Mini i7 2.3ghz, but still need a monitor. I don't have enough money for the Apple Monitor.
I have seen two option: The Philips 248C3LHSB (moda 24 inch) and the S22B150 Sync Master Samsung VGA.
Any owner of these monitors? Also it is better to connect to HDMI or VGA with the HDMI/VGA cable that is included with the MINI.
I will receive my mini on Friday need helps
    Thanks! Happy 2013

HDMI would work would be my thinking.
I have an LG monitor with TV-style tuner.  That way the "display unit" takes image processing load off of the Mac like a "just monitor" does, but has all inputs required for TV viewing.
Most TVs I think do far less image processing (just input plug conversion) and leave much of the image processing to the Mac's graphics card, making for a less-pleasant viewing experience.
But then I may be dead wrong on that last point and others are free to enlighten me so I can know more.

  • Notable quality difference for same screen connected via HDMI or VGA

I have created the following topic:
    https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=1386998
in which I was trying to get help for a strange color anomaly on my screen.
Finally I found out that when I connect with VGA, this color anomaly doesn't occur.
I wonder why the VGA cable is working better than the HDMI?
I'd like to use HDMI because of sound.
But I'll stick to VGA for now as long as I can avoid issues...
Any idea why the HDMI cable is failing me?
    The cable is new
(I think I also tried another cable, and I think I had the same issues, but not sure anymore).

Hi thanks for the response! Unfortunately the unit had to be RTB (Which took ages) and they said they had to swap out the board!
The support wasn't too bad initially but failed to advise it was heading from the UK to Germany for repairs - after a number of weeks it just turned up with no prior information. In fairness it has resolved the issue. I have Windows 8.1 and it works a charm for my uses - Media centre and some mid level video editing and have been fine just boosting the RAM to 8GB. While the SSD would be a nice option as I have 1TB internal and ext HDs on USB 3 it hasn't been a neccesity as performance for the majority is great! The only thing I'd have liked would be a juicier graphics card! I had a few issues with LAN and WLAN but managed to get this working (Its something to do with the compatability of the drivers with the graphics card and windows 8 - simply uninstalled the new driver and hunted down the original! Now for the most part the system is great! Good luck as you shouldn't have to use an older OS just to have it working!

  • Hdmi to vga connection using apple tv-2

how can we connect apple tv-2 to a vga projector? what should we use?
can we use an hdmi to vga adapter sold separately?

A compliant converter wouldn't confirm it was connected to an HDCP compliant device and the Apple TV wouldn't send the movie (or send the "HDCP is not supported" message).
A converter that is not compliant would confirm (circumvent protection) it was connected to an HDCP compliant device and the Apple TV would be fooled into sending the movie.

The model 7,1 is actually the Mid 2010 MacBook and is the only MacBook with a Mini DisplayPort that sends audio along with the video, Here's some Mini DisplayPort to HDMI with audio adapters from Amazon.

  • Which sort of HDMI cableis recommended for connecting Apple TV to aTelevision?  Does it need to be a normal HDMI cable or one which support Ethernet capabilities?

Which sort of HDMI cableis recommended for connecting Apple TV to aTelevision?  Does it need to be a normal HDMI cable? or one which supports Ethernet capabilities?

no need to go for an expensive HDMI cable as Varjak Paw rightly suggests.
Pretty much all of them come with 1.4 standard these days.
The difference in price is made by additional shielding and material used for the wire - hardly ever needed at home installations - unless you get interference from other devices.
    on the other note.
one HDMI in your TV is obviously not ideal as well as using HDMI splitter or hub - but it should work.
Also I know cases that some LG TV models do not work with Apple TV - which was confirmed by LG technical support.
Those are rare cases and i do not want to worry you at this stage.

  • Does apple tv work with hdmi to VGA hd15 cable?

I have a Phillips tv and there is no hdmi to hdmi connection. But there is a VGA 15 input. Does apple tv work with it? I seem to be getting a black screen.

I tried hard. Four different manufacturers, including Belkin, none of HDMI to VGA works with rMBP. However, all of them work with other sources, like Dell notebook.
HDMI directly from rMBP to HDMI intput works fine.

my tv does not have hdmi, it has componet. Is there an adapter for apple tv to go from hdmi to componet?

It could be that it's too old. I have the same problem. Apple has a HDMI to DVI adapter, if you have a DVI input, which is how I connect my Apple TV. But if not here's an adapter for you.
