HDMI wraparound (makes tons of sense)

Like it says above, when I hook up my iMac to the tv through mdp to hdmi and a hdmi cable the right edge appears on the left side of the screen and the image gets moved over so it fits ( I can't take a picture atm) uhhh then no sound but I know the iMac doesn't support sound through minidisplay port. Any help will be apreated but if you have questions, I'll answer as best I can.

i figured it out, i just turned off the overscanning

  • MacBook makes tones and won't start

I bought I new MacBook last week. But since yesterday I get kernel panics. And now it even won't start.
It makes tones after powering up. First there were three tones. But after I changed the memory modules, it makes 1 tone repeatedly.
Is my standard Apple memory broken?

But, if both chips work in the upper slot, then it really is the lower slot that's the problem. I don't think the hardware test that's running before the tones is capable of determining if it's the chip or the slot itself that's failed, only that the test that was supposed to go to the RAM chip has failed. Either way, it does need to be serviced. The search function is running again, here's the article about startup tones:

  • How to use hdmi converter make notebook video become high-definition

Yesterday, i bought a notebook. When i connect with my TV and watch video. it is not definition. I ask for my friend. he told me that get a hdmi converter from hdgenius.com and use hdmi converter make signal become hdmi,Then it will become high-definition and watch perfect video. It is OK ?

    Hey there SSaccio,
I'm having a little trouble determining exactly which system is yours. The site everymac.com has a list of all standard mac products and I don't see a 2.4 G5. So the info I'm going to give you is based on the 2.3 G5 duo.
    This model ( http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/powermacg5/stats/powermac_g5_2.3dp.html )
Has the ATI Radeon 9600 with 128 MB of DDR SDRAM occupies an 8X AGP Pro slot. Dual monitoring is supported with this card up to 1920x1200. So you might be good to go with what you have already. If you know that you don't have this card, then let me know what you have and I might be able to suggest something else.
    BTW
Graphics cards for Mac have a different card BIOS (or firmware, whatever it's called) than the PC versions. Therefore, you can't use a PC card in a Mac and viceversa, without reflashing it.
Nvidia, unlike ATI, does not sell their Mac cards as retail cards.
So if you don't have the ATI Radeon 9600 card then that's what you wanna get. It runs about $150-200
    Cheers

  • HT1444 Upgrading from 10.5.8 to 10.6 (or later) which later version makes the most sense?

For work-related remote-access using Citrix, I will need to upgrade from V10.5.8 to V10.6 (or a later version).  Which new version would make the most sense?

Since it's a 10.5 era issued machine and rather dated, the best OS X version is 10.6.3 via the white retail disks, call Apple Sales by phone and order it for $29.
10.6 will run your presently installed 10.5 software as 10.7 or 10.8 will not. Also 10.7 or 10.8 will slow your machine down to a crawl, so it doesn't make much sense to go there.
Since your machine is getting long in the tooth, it's got not that much longer to go, I would be considering a newer 10.8 or 10.9 machine (next summer) and ease yourself into in.
So 10.6 now, 10.8 or 10.9 on a new machine later.
Don't upgrade to 10.8 and don't worry about it, over 50% of OS X users are on 10.6 currently, (30% on 10.7) and about 5% on 10.8 just released.
Things to consider before upgrading OS X
Back up only your personal info off the machine to a external storage drive (not TimeMachine!), disconnet it. Stick the 10.6.3 disk in and run the updater.
    Most commonly used backup methods
If you need to wipe and install, (like if you have problems because your 10.5 is funkyed up)
How to erase and install Snow Leopard 10.6
Install your programs from fresh original sources and last hook up your storage drive and return files into same named accounts.

  • Preset management makes no logical sense...

The Premiere Pro CC 2014 preset management makes no sense based on the aliasing of the original preset.
What is considered the norm with presets in most applications is having a custom bin/folder with a naming convention that follows the paradigm of the presets within.
Presets that are created within these folders should then be able to be copied and/or moved to any other preset bin/folder and the original can be renamed or deleted.
As it stands, you can only create a custom preset in the Presets root and then create a Custom Bin. Then you can drag/copy the preset from the Presets root to the Custom bin. However, you can't delete the original root preset as it will delete the copy in the Custom bin as well. This makes no sense as you end up with duplicates and defeats the purpose of preset management from the get go. Am I missing something or is this convolution intended.

  • Does using HDMI cables make a difference?

For this level of video quality, does it make a difference to use HDMI vs. just RCA?

For this level of video quality, does it make a
difference to use HDMI vs. just RCA?
The HDMI connection passes digital signals; the RCA (component) one passes analog signals. In theory, transferring the signals in the digital domain should yield higher quality video, all other things being equal.
This is because binary digital signals have only two values, on or off, while analog ones have a continuous range of them. Thus, digital transmissions are immune to signal degradations small compared to the 'all the way on' or 'all the way off' signal range, while analog ones are directly affected by them.
However, because HDMI is a multi-core connection (several conductors are in the cable), & it is desirable to make the cables thin, flexible, & easy to handle, it is more difficult & expensive to manufacture multi-core cables with these & the appropriate electrical characteristics compared to a set of conventional (single-core) cables intended for transmitting individual analog video components.
Since the electrical characteristics of the cores become increasingly important for passing high quality signals with increasing cable lengths, this generally isn't a concern for short cable runs like most people would use between Apple TV's & other HDMI devices co-located in one cabinet, but is a concern if (for example) the Apple TV must be connected by a long cable to a remote display across the room.
So basically, go with HDMI (or DVI) for short cable runs. For longer ones, consider both. Distance, cost, & cable space considerations will generally interact to determine which is best for you.

  • Will hdmi adaptor make all apps playable on my hdtv?

I don't have an ipad, but am thinking about getting one.  I want to be able to play all apps on my hdtv.  Apple indicates the hdmi adaptor will mirror your ipad.  Will this work with the hdmi adaptor?  Now, on my iphone 3gs, some apps like tlc and pbs will not play video.  Is this different on ipad with hd connector?  I am reading conflicting information.  Thanks.

    Sherrilynn57-
My Apple HDMI adapter works with a Vizio HDTV.  It even plays music in stereo.
But what do you mean by "play all apps"?  Mine shows the same thing on the TV as on my iPad's screen most of the time.  The exception is when a Videos video or a Photos slide show is playing.  Then, the show is on the TV but only the controls are on the iPad's screen.  How it works with other Apps may vary.
My only problem with the Apple HDMI adapter, is that the weight of the HDMI cable tends to pull the connector out of the iPad.  For many applications, using an AppleTV with AirPlay may be more convenient if you need to walk around while making a presentation.

  • Im trying to set my ipad back to its factory settings and in doing so Itunes seems to be unable to activate it. It says "We're sorry, we are unable to continue with your activation at this time" which makes no complete sense to me. Any thoughts?

I recently got this Ipad2 in hopes for a working device. I had originally stated it up by syncing it on my sisters pc but by doing so the app store on the Ipad automatically gave me her husbands Apple ID instead of my own. I'm well aware that by syncing with her Itunes library something like this may have come as a result of it. So, I took it home and tried reseting it to its factory settings so that I was able to put up my own Apple ID and download some fun and helpful apps. I connected it to my notebook and had Itunes reset it which made it download something that took more than half an hour to do. It had told me that once it was done downloading this it would automaticlly set the Ipad back to its original state. It did no such thing. Now im trying to start the thing up and Itunes keeps telling me its unable to do so at this time. If you have had a similar situation and know of a possible solution please respond to my question. Much appreciated.

  • CC Photography Programme - Does this make any commercial sense?

This seems crazy economics from Adobe. Because I am an educator you offered me and I accepted a reduced price on Photoshop. This wasn't because you value my work with young people it was because I might open their eyes to Adobe products. Now because of this you won't let me buy the CC Photography Programme subscription. I and many other would have bought the original subscription offer if we could afford it. Clearly only about 700K users could do so until recently. Now you offer the CC PP as a 'reward' to existing customers. You don't have to go to Harvard BS to know that in retail there are no rewards, only incentives disguised as rewards. You want as many people as possible to sign up. It matters not one bit what anyone did, had or bought before. All that matters is what they WILL spend and for how long. I want to subscribe, I want to give you $9..99 a month, every month until I die or go blind. You won't let me do that and my only other alternative is to walk away. Adobe is turning profit away for no good reason. PLEASE if anyone reading this has any power to influence, try to convening marketing not to turn good loyal customers' money away. For Adobe it may not add up to a whole hill of beans but every little helps.

As "Beverly (Adobe staff)" states here, are you part of the automatic migration? Or maybe it does not apply to educational offers?

  • " IF 1 = 2 ", what make this condition sense here?

    Hello Gurus,
I have a excerpt from function module used for sap bw extraction from generic datasource.
    CASE i_dsource.
    WHEN 'ZMOZ_DELTA_OPEW'.
    WHEN OTHERS. IF 1 = 2. MESSAGE e009(r3). ENDIF.
for "  IF 1 = 2. MESSAGE e009(r3). ENDIF",  condition "IF 1 = 2" is always false, so I suppose statement after this condition will not be excuted, so what does this conditional statement really mean putting here?
    Many thanks

    Hi,
One reason i could think off is, usually we don't directlt throw the error messages in BW extraction FMs, BAPIs etc. Collect the messages into return tab and show at the end. But if some one wants to know where exactly the message is coming from, probably they could search with this message ID and number ( Where used list from SE91) and can easily find instead of debugging the entire code.
Also, many times messages are logged to message log using standard FMs insted of displaying on the screen. Here also same thing applies.
You can see similar condition in smartforms also. But here we have another reason. SF doesn't have versions. So if some noded needs to be commented, then placing the node condition 1 = 2 is the best option. If we delete the node and if you want to check in future about what nodes you had, its not possible without above logic unless you download and store the XML file.
    Thanks,
    VInod.

  • Trade in or refi remaining? which makes more financial sense?

So, 3 years ago when I had to get a car, I had to take out a 10% interest loan.  I had just started rebuilding and still had alot of work to do but had to get a vehicle.  so now, my credit is repaired, we just closed on a house, and I have been thinking about this loan.  I have 24 months left at payments of $X/mo.  When I use the refi calculators, even using a 2.5%-3% rate for 24 months, there is maybe $5/mo difference.  So I think Ive already paid the interest hit.      Or, I could trade it in, get maybe $2,000 trade-in after current note and have a $100/mo less payment but then I owe for another 4-5 years.   So would you guys just continue to pay it off?  or trade in?:  I dont see how refinancing would benefit me (unless I take it out for a longer term and I REFUSE to pay on a car 6 years!)    I drive a 2009 nissan maxima with 75K miles

Which is a more financially viable option? Spent
~$130 on Tiger and the newest iLife and keep my PB
for another year and a half, or upgrade to a Macbook
and sell that in 18 months?

You would already sell a new Macbook in 18 months ? That's real fast. My Pismo is six years old and my Powermac 4 1/2 years. I won't be buying a new Macbook to replace the two until Q4 of 2007. I'm not criticising, it just surprises me that you consider the life span of a Macbook only to be 18 months. Or did I misinterpret your post ?
    G4/800 QS - G3/400 Pismo PB Mac OS X (10.3.9)
Edit : sorry, I did actually misinterpret your post (read it too fast, I think). Personally, I believe it's a waste of money buying a new Macbook now if you're going to sell it in 1 1/2 years. It'll have lost a lot of its value. As I've said before, my Pismo is six years old and it'll have to serve me for another year at least.

  • Speed of a shape style

This seems like it should be be easy but I have been racking my brain for awhile. I have created a straight line and change the shape style to one of the light streaks. The streak has it's own built in write on behavior. How can I adjust the speed of the streak? For this purpose I can't adjust the length. Adjusting the length of time, applying the drag behavior, and various options in the Shape tabs have left me scratching my head with no change in results. I'm looking at speed it up. Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Thomas

Thanks Mark, that makes tons of sense now. I completely missed the key frame indicator in the gradient.
BTW, I'm using this on a mock up I created from your first Motion video. I'm using the clip from the Green Screen tutorial clip since it has the same qualities as our footage. I'm hoping to pick up second
Ripple Training DVD soon. Looks great!

  • Why does the Retina Screen on MBPR2013 make a Weird Flash when I have a External Display via HDMI hooked up?

I just bought a new 2013 early MACBOOK PRO RETINA.  When i have an external Display hooked up via the HDMI port, I noitce when I wake the computer UP it has a Different type OF QUICK FLASH that comes up than when there is nothing hooked up so I don't know if that makes sense to anyone, but its very disturbing to me, it makes me wonder if there is something wrong with the HDMI PORT ?????   Has anyone else experienced this or knows if this is NORMAL behavior of the new RETINA displays or the HDMI port makes it FLASH weird upon WAKE UP???   I have unplugged the HDMI and when I do the SCREEN comes up normally it just blinks on.  But when HDMI is used its light lightening stike.  Don't know  how else to explain it, maybe i need to do a video and Post a video.

One more disturbing thing.  When the screen on my MBP goes black and I check the system preferences for "Displays", the MacBook Pro display is not presented as an existing display.  Only the still-functioning Apple 20" Cinema Display.
    Where did it go??

  • Syncing tones to iphone makes me erase my phone.

So I've followed this https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3792, and when i go to sync my tones, I get a message saying "This phone is already synced with another itunes library, do you want to erase this iPhone and sync with this itunes library?"
This makes absolutely no sense to me because I've never even used another itunes to sync with. It's always been on this computer.

It is good practice to always store numbers in contacts with the area code. There is no harm in dialing the area codes even if you live in an area that still uses 7-digit dialing. And, it prevents issues when you travel.

  • Which Mac Pro? More cores=slower speeds? And most of us know the speed matters or FPU for music and I don't understand the faster is for the least amount of procs. And while I get the whole rendering thing and why it makes sense.

Which Mac Pro? More cores=slower speeds? And most of us know the speed matters or FPU for music and I don't understand the faster is for the least amount of procs. And while I get the whole rendering thing and why it makes sense.
The above is what the bar says. It's been a while and wondered, maybe Apple changed the format for forums. Then got this nice big blank canvas to air my concerns. Went to school for Computer Science, BSEE, even worked at Analog Devices in Newton Massachusetts, where they make something for apple.
The bottom line is fast CPU = more FPU = more headroom and still can't figure out why the more cores= the slower it gets unless it's to get us in to a 6 core then come out with faster cores down the road or a newer Mac that uses the GPU. Also. Few. I'm the guy who said a few years ago Mac has an FCP that looks like iMovie on Steroids. Having said that I called the campus one day to ask them something and while I used to work for Apple, I think she thought I still did as she asked me, "HOW ARE THE 32 CORES/1DYE COMING ALONG? Not wanting to embarrass her I said fine, fine and then hung up.  Makes the most sense as I never quite got the 2,6,12 cores when for years everything from memory to CPU's have been, in sets of 2 to the 2nd power.  2,4,8,16,32,64,120,256,512, 1024, 2048,4196,8192, 72,768.  Wow. W-O-W and will be using whatever I get with Apollo Quad.
Peace to all and hope someone can point us in THE RIGHT DIRECTION.  THANK YOU
