HDR Rendering is a mess
Hi there,
Hoping someone can help - I'm trying to use Photomatrix Pro to do some HDR shots & it used to work until i upgraded to iPhoto 09.
Ever since then all i get is a blurry bunch of greyish lines
Can anyone help?
Does iPhoto 11 help or resolve this issue (as i do a fair bit of HDR & haven't been able to for a while & its VERY frustrating)
many thanks
Rich
You'll need to give us some more details. How are you using Photomatrix Pro with iPhoto? Where are you getting this "blurry bunch of greyish lines"?

Mac Pro, graphics and 3d HDR rendering, is the GPU the bottleneck?
We purchased a Mac Pro, 2x2.66, gForce 7300, 2 GB ram, and is has been a beauty.
When we do our standard 3d rendering, Activity monitor would cap at 400% usage for Vectorworks (rendering/modeling) which I saw a 4 cores X 100%. Great!!
Then I started using HDRI technology to render our models, and now I am noticing that the core do not max out, and each only reaches about 75% mac, so that totals about 300% in Activity Monitor. All 4 cores are processing, but not @ 100 %. There are no other apps running, and once I take away the HDRI info, they jump up to 100%
THis makes me think there is a bottle neck now, which I am assuming is the GPU, as i believe the HDRI is very GUP intensive.
Is this correct? Is my new computer getting bogged down by the GPU? Is there a way to see what the GPU processor is doing, like Activity Monitor shows for the CPUs? single image rendering time jumped from 2 min, to close to 20 min.
Thanks for your input.

Mac Pro 2.66 Ghz Mac OS X (10.4.7)Rendering in FP16 or FP32 is a lot more computationally expensive, so the card is probably still working before the driver gets the signal to process the next chunk. That lag translates to less CPU usage in between operations of some type.
If you are doing this professionally the Quadro card may be appealing and justifiable. I may be wrong, but I thought I read at one point the floating-point precision is higher in the Quadro drivers which is another bonus (better quality rendering).
While it seems like there's an inefficiency here (why aren't my CPU's maxed!) the real test and issue is speed. Benchmark the two and use that as your metric to find bottlenecks. CPU usage fluctuations when rendering can sometimes just be unoptimized code in the drivers or shaders.
Good luck. -
Rendering of tab row and pages is totally messed up when I add/remove/scroll through tabs
After upgrading to 4b9 from 4b8, the rendering is totally messed up, whenever I add, remove or simply scroll through the tab row (if I'm calling it correctly). The tab row basically disappears and at least 5 seconds to come back, while lots of flashing and buggy behavior. During this time the rendering of the main page is also messed up.
After it finishes rendering, the main page could still be in a bad state. At which I have to switch tabs or scroll the main page, to force a re-draw of the main page, to get the rendering looking correct.
The only clue I have is that I have lots and lots of tabs open. And it looks like when I'm on the first few tabs it doesn't happen as badly.. This worked perfectly on 4b8.I'm sorry to hear that you have so many issues. What version of Firefox were you using before?
The double title bar issue has been identified as an issue with the Tax Mix Plus extension but it doesn't affect everyone, it's an interaction with something else (not exactly clear what, although Norton Toolbar was mentioned in one thread).
There is a new version available that you could try. If Firefox is stable enough to do it...
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons > "gear" icon > Check for Updates
If your beta version won't update, you could try installing [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/tab-mix-plus/ from the add-ons site].
More generally, could I suggest disabling as many extensions as you can live without for 24 hours, and re-enable them gradually? This should help isolate interactions between them. As you know, you can do that here:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons > Extensions category
Finally, regarding your old session, if you haven't closed Firefox, you might find a sessionstore.bak file in your profile folder that contains your old session. To easily access that folder, try
Help > Troubleshooting Information > "Show Folder" button
Grab a copy of that file and save it somewhere outside the folder because it is overwritten when you close Firefox. Got to run, but if you find one with an appropriate date, someone can help you restore it. -
3D Rendering - The lines are too light
I've just reinstalled Acrobat 7.0 Standard onto this computer and now whenever I convert a 3D rendering into a pdf the drawings lines are so faint they are barely visible. The border and the text are fine, just the rendering itself is messed up. I know there is a setting somewhere to fix this but I just can't figure it out. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Under the printer properties of the Adobe PDF printer, select the layout tab, Advanced options. Change the print quality to 300 or 600 dpi, not the default 1200.

Camera Raw Photoshop CS2 & Bridge Parsing Problem
I am having an issue with Photoshop CS2. I am trying to work on a .tiff file that I have used the HDR automate tool from. The HDR renders files in 32-bit and therefor I render back to 16-bit once I have compressed the files and save as a .tiff file.
I then use bridge to try and open the .tiff file and the camera raw file is shaded grey. I also have tried opening in PS CS2 and this message comes up when I try and force Camera Raw to Open..."Could not complete your request because the file-format module cannot parse the file".
PS will open the tiff file on a compressed version and not in the Camera Raw Function.
I have read numerous posts on this kind of problem and people say to update your camera raw plu-in and I have done that and am having the same problem.
Any suggestions I would very much appreciate it.Hi Patrick,
You need CR 4.x and Ps CS3 in order to open non-camera raw TIFFs. -
Hello,
About a month ago I purchased the Geforce 4 Ti4800Se, it’s fantastic, and just recently I’ve been getting urges to overclock it’s core speed of 275Mhz, and it’s 554Mhz DDR RAM Speed. So first I researched if it’d be a smart thing to do, I came across this article from ‘Extreme Overclockers.com’ that said,
“The MSI Ti4800SE comes at a stock speed of 275 MHz Core & 550 MHz (DDR) Memory. I was able to overclock this card to a maximum of 315 MHz Core & 685 MHz Memory without any artifacting. This is about 15MHz core & 100MHz memory more than I was able to get with the Ti4200-8X. As always, your results may vary on what you can overclock your card to. I haven't removed the stock heatsink yet to see how well thermal compound is applied, so I might be able to squeeze a few more MHz out of the core.”
Having read that I decided to overclock my card to 300Mhz, and 567Mhz for the Memory. It’s very easy to overclock, the core settings for both the RAM & GPU are in the MSI Display properties lol. So what I’m asking is, does anyone else have a Ti4800Se, and do you overclock yours? Does anybody have an opinion on whether my overclocking is ok, or dangerous?

ZZZZZZZZZ..... oh.... hi there......Question:
I have a G4 Mirrored super drive and a 17in Apple Display. I purchased these new back in 2002.
When I put this display in sleep mode... it won't wake up. It won't ever wake up! I've screamed at it, shook-it, given it a bottle of NoDoz, and thrown a bucket of water in it's face....and it just lays there.
Only way to get it to wake up, is to turn off the computer, then reboot.
Any answers? Upgrading the OS has never made any difference either.
I am on 10.4.9
Also, the USB ports on the back have on occasion, stopped working; but all I do to correct that -- is turn off the whole system, UNPLUG the Apple Display from the computer, then plug it back in, reboot, and then the ports work fine(but it doesn't fix the sleeping problem).
Thanks for any help!

Rip Van Winkle wakes up from DW 3.0
For years I have been doing my funky little web pages for
myself and for a few friends.
All that time, I've been using Dreamweaver 3.0 without a
problem.
My computer with Dreamweaver 3.0 crashed, so I decided to
download a trial copy of DW CS3.
My downloading DW CS3 is like Rip Van Winkle sleeping 20
years then awakening to a different world.
Rip Van Winkle has an immediate problem. I use a mixture of
CSS style sheets and ordinary HTML sizing (i.e., I designate the
size of the font to be "3" or "4" -- etc.)
With DW 3.0, what rendered in DW 3.0 was close enough to what
rendered in IE and Firefox to be usable (actually it was very
similar).
But with DW CS3, what renders is all messed up -- but still
renders correctly in IE and DW 3.0. The HTML font-sizes are all out
of whack with the CSS style text lines.
Is there some toggle I can hit (or something!) to make my
pages that rendered correctly in DW 3.0 render correctly in DW CS3?
Thanks in advance.Let's see one of your pages, please.

Hopefully some can help me out here.
I've got a HDR rendered file, saved as PSD and tiff. No matter what file i choose, if i click File -> Print, nothing happens.
I can see the cursor go arround for 2 sec as if it's buisy, then nothing. No screen where i can put in all the print settings whatsoever.
I also made a "test" copy of the file, without result.
All other files i can print like it should. I'm really flabbergasted here.
I restarted Photoshop, used the 64 and 32 version, restarted PC.
Could anyone please shine some light on this?@ Dave. Also thanks to you for your effort.
The dafault printer on my system is allready another as the printer i use for printing photo's.
So i indeed made another, new file (please see my respons above) what did the trick.
btw: when saving the original PSD towards tiff, the picture was completaly corrupted: colours gone, a black part on 1/4 or the right edge, lines all over the picture)
(i tried to upload the file here, bud .psd or .tiff is not allowed, and i can not save the file in another format any more, so i can not show it)
So in all: problem itself not solved, case for printing the file is.
Edit: i made some file changes so im now able to show you the corrupted result. -
Watermarking DNxHD36 QT leads to black movie
Hi,
I am trying to watermark a bunch of QTs (AVID DNxHD36 1080P 24) but as soon as I set a filter for this the result is a black QT. Actually you see the first frame correctly which then smoothly fades to black and the rest of the film will stay black with the text burn-in I've set.
This happens with any other filter as well.
The preview monitor shows everything is fine but the rendered QT is messed up.
A friend tried on a different system with Compressor 3. Same result.
Any ideas? This renders this "pro" app pretty much useless for me.
Thanks!
(Using Compressor 4.0.7, AVID DNxHD codecs are installed)Yes, this is still an issue with the latest version of Compressor. It's been like this for a while and is very frusterating. But there are a couple ways around this.
One, if you paste an empty text track in the Quicktime movie with Quicktime Pro 7 and then save it (saves instantly, no rendering) and bring that movie in to Compressor it will work with the timecode and text burn in filter. Here is a thread that discusses how to do this:
http://community.avid.com/forums/p/94827/569550.aspx
(See the 9th and 10th posts in that thread for instructions.)
And two, instead of doing the burn ins in Compressor I use this app Toki TC. Here's a blog post I did on using this with Compressor if it suits your needs.

Let me know if any of this works for you. -
Mac Pro Info:2x2.66 GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon

It says my mac pro (2006-2007) model had PCIe slots, but it doesn't mention PCI 2.0 slots. i'm looking to upgrade my video card to one of the better ones for this computer. currently i have a radeon x1900 XT 512 card. it can get clunky at times. I've been reading a lot about the Radeon HD5770, but it says it works with PCI 2.0. i've been reading that a lot of people that currently have the x1900 XT upgrade to the HD5770. but I don't want to buy an incompatible one. I just did that on my RAM and had to return it.
Does anyone know if this card will work? and will both mini display ports work as well?
or do you have a better suggestion for an upgrade?
i don't do a whole lot of gaming, but i like having a junky desktop with 30 browser windows open and 10 other programs open at the same time. i would like a card that is good for that. thanks again!OpenGL 3.2 support15

OpenCL 1.1 was ratified by the Khronos Group on 14 June 2010 - "Hello, that is full two years ago." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenCL#cite_note-11
OpenCL 1.2 On 15 November 2011, the Khronos Group announced the OpenCL 1.2 specification,[13] which added significant functionality over the previous versions in terms of performance and features for parallel programming. Most notable features include:
Device partitioning: the ability to partition a device into sub-devices so that work assignments can be allocated to individual compute units. This is useful for reserving areas of the device to reduce latency for time-critical tasks.
Separate compilation and linking of objects: the functionality to compile OpenCL into external libraries for inclusion into other programs.
Enhanced image support: 1.2 adds support for 1D images and 1D/2D image arrays. Furthermore, the OpenGL sharing extensions now allow for OpenGL 1D textures and 1D/2D texture arrays to be used to create OpenCL images.

Audio got out of sync somehow...
Hello everyone,
I have been working on a piece of footage for a few hours now, editing a master clip down into around 20 sub clips, and everything was going fine up until a few minutes ago. The audio is completely out of sync and even out of order. It's not just a few seconds fast or slow; the audio is jumping around to completely different times in the master clip. I don't know why this happened, and I can't figure out a way around it.
The master clip plays accurately outside of Premiere 5.5 in QuickTime, VLC and Windows Media Player. I have tried copying and renaming the master clip and the replacing the damaged file inside of premiere with the differently named file, but that doesn't do any good. I opened up an auto save file from way before this issue arose and that is also messed up. I've restarted Premiere and all that stuff... nothing helps. I've even rendered out a small clip to see if it renders okay, still messed up.
This problem seems to only affect the sub clips from this particular master file, the other master files and their respective sub clips work just fine... And I can’t recall for sure what I was doing just before this happened. I think I was messing with the opacity of a sub clip or something… This happened once before on a real small project, but I’ve spent a lot of time on this one and I would hate to loose it all.
Any ideas on what I can do to salvage the clips? If there is a way to export the sub clip info and put it inside a new project or something… I don’t know… This is about the 20th video I’ve edited on this hardware with only one occurrence of this nature happening before.

File capure and export to DVD render problems
So.....
I do quite a few simple videos every week that require to be imported from minidv and then slightly cut, some transitions added and then exported to MPEG-2 to go to dvd via DVDsp.
My problem is that any video that I import from tape, needs some kind of rendering that sometimes messes things up.
Sometimes it will need to render audio which gives me some absurd time estimate like 58hours or something so I always cancel it right after it starts but the audio gets messed. Either the right track is out of phase from the left, presumebally just a couple ms off, or one channel gets out of sync by 10-30 minutes. I have been told before to empty the render files and that works until it asks me to rerender and then its back to the same thing.
Please Help

PowerMac G5 Dual 2.5Ghz 2Gigs Ram 1.8TB Mac OS X (10.4.6) FCP 5Ok so I tried it this weekend. Everything is fine and synced after the initial log and capture using the same settings i have been. Once I add transitions and need to export as MPEG2 it wants to render the video, understandable, then it wants to render the audio for something like 57hours so i always cancel that. At that point, the right track is, i think, just slightly behind of the left track causing a phase cancelation kind of sound. So I turn down one track and im fine since it was recorded in mono only.
Then after I export my compressed H.264 verion for the web is where it places audio from about halfway through over the audio on the left track at the beginning. I have a copy of the video on my website for you to look at. http://cpctecharts.com/video/right.mov <-the correct one. and the bad one. <a class="jive-link-external-small" href="http://">http://cpctecharts.com/video/bad.mov
