HDR-SR11 AVCHD 1080i exporting - but its interlaced... hmmm??

I've been having but issues with this format from the start.... is it just me or is this one of the worst possible bloody formats ever?
I use cs5
so now i export the footage in its native size and resolution and it comes out interlaced
i've tried exporting in mpeg, wav, avi flash etc
this is a north american camera shot on default functions
apparently i'm a noob ....i just dont get this
i've edited p2, 5d2 footage no problems....
anyone care to chime in to tell me what stupid stuff i'm either doing or not doing.. .
thanks

So... what's the question? If you start with interlaced footage, and export to the same thing, it'll be interlaced.

  • Sony HDR-SR11 /AVCHD/NON-INTEL MAC/HELP

I have called both sony and apple tech support and both offered little help today.
I have a Sony HDR-SR11 that I shot some HD content with. The computer registers that the camera is there as an external HDD. Sony's FAQ suggested that I save the AVCHD file to my HDD and it should work....NOPE
I hooked it up to a PC and installed the software it comes with and I was able to view my files but not export them into a normal format.
I have 2 sets of files one set is .m2t and the other is .mts both say they are Unix Executable files..***!
I have a Power MAc G5 running Leopard and Final Cut Pro 6 I ran the software update and it says that as of today 100% up to date yet it says that FCP should be 6.0.2 mine says 6.0
Apple support said that it may not even work on a non-intel Mac.....HELP
anyone get this to work, supposedly Imovie work s with it but the files are grayed out in the menus for imovie so I dunno all I know is I need this footage off the camera ASAP.
    Thanks

I came here actually looking for a different solution and not the one I'm about to say... but I will tell you that the new iMovie will import the video straight off the camera (in either 960x540 or 1920x1080). It's not ideal, but it works.
In fact, I'm doing so right now, but I came here hoping there might be news of a new fix so that FCP will import it directly (it will not, log & capture will not do it, just so others are clear on this).
That said, the video off the camera looks very nice. I'm still happy with the camera, even if I do have to do one hoop jump before I can edit.

  • IMovie '08 7.1.4 breaks Sony HDR-SR11 AVCHD Import

Back in August I upgraded to iMovie 7.1.4 and I can no longer import files from my Sony HDR-SR11 AHCHD. IMovie recognized the camera, opens the import window, begins the import but at the end of the import the following message appears in a dialog box "An Error Occurred During Import: There was a problem importing 1 of 1 clips from your camera. Please review the imported movies carefully." No movie loads. Has anyone else had and resolved this problem? Oddly, when I upgraded to Final Cut Express 4.01 the same problem occurred so I use FCE 4.0 instead. I am really interested in determining why these upgrades broke the import with my camera.

I was using Sony HRD-SR12E and facing same problem "An Error Occurred During Import" when importing long clips. Problem solved with directly connect the USB2 into my InterBased iMac. Thanks!

  • Ingesting avchd from sony hdr-sr11-Editing 1080i 60 need a workflow

    Hello all,
So I have successfully ingested some test shots into fcp for a cousins wedding that i am shooting in a couple of weeks. The footage looks great once transcoded to apple pro res 422. I do have a few questions.
    1) In the log and transfer window do I need to check remove pulldown? I though this was for progressive mode
    2) Should I edit in a native 1440x1080i 29.97 sequence? then render and export that sequence?
    3) Do I need to worry about deinterlacing issues?
I have monitored it out through my canopus and it looks terrible. Alot of jagged edges. I have tried the deinterlace filter. No go. I looks fine on my monitor though?
    3) I will be mastering to SD/DVD
    4) Once complete, do I render out a reference quicktime apple pro res import that into compressor
then import that into studio pro? What is the best way to downconvert this final locked sequence?
    5) What would be a good workflow? I do plan on doing some after effects work for this.
I have searched all over for a workflow and everyone seems to have their own opinion.
    Anyone?
    thanks in advance,
    darryl

No. It doesn't work. The Log & Transfer window still shows "downmixing to stereo"!
I have also read in the Apple HD Users Manual that ALL AVCHD 5.1 surround sound will be DOWNMIXED to Stereo. Why they would do it is only they know! G H U !

I am trying to export my project to an avi file, but its only exporting the audio, help? I can open the avi file but there is not video. I am choosing uncompressed avi, 1080x720 frame rate 29.97, what can i do?

The above was a quote and AME is not necessary.  From the Timeline selected Ctrl-M brings up the Export window.  There select "AVI" and under Video Codec below select "None"

  • FCPX final product has been exported but it is choppy and seems like its missing frames

The Problem:  FCP X .mov finished product is choppy in its play back (i checked through different programs, itunes, vlc, windows media player, QT, Also different computer platforms and operating systems. same choppy playback) so its a problem on FCPX's rendering etc.
What I know:  The input file is a ripped DVD I own thats been handbraked to mp4.  Its a clean rip and convert, I can play it through any media player on any platform/OS and its very smooth just like the DVD.
My project settings are for SD DVD video.  They are NTSC SD, 720x480 DV Anamorphic and 23.98p fps settings.  During the editing process
I have not touched the video so all those setting are default or should be anyways.
The only things i can think of now out of the ordinary are:
                           1. The settings of DV Anamorphic, should it just be 720x480 DV or 720x480 in the settings for resolution- I don't know what DV or anamorphic                            means.
                           2. The mp4 file input (the harry potter dvd rip) is resolution 720x360.  Does that factor in?
                           3. This is FCP X the trial version.  I dont know if that changes anything.
Background Info:  I'm taking the harry potter DVD and matching it with the audio from Brad Neely's soundtracks.  The timing is perfect, the sound is ok.  Now I was hoping the finished product would be good to go, but its not.
Any idea of why the FCP X output file is choppy (like its missing a few frames here and there and skips from frame to frame so its not smooth) when watching the final product?
    system specs:
                           Mac OS X (10.7.4)
                           2.5 GHz Intel Core i5
                           4GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Any help is greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

i also forgot to add that in some places there is a green screen for a brief second.

  • AVCHD (1080i) to DVD

    Hi friends!
I´ve record with Sony cameras a wedding. The file format was AVCHD 1080i.
I need to deliver to the client a Bluray and a DVD with the same content.
Using the Premiere and Encore Cs6 the Bluray has a very good quality.
I have edit in Premiere using AVCHD and then I am sending it through Dynamic Link to Encore ( I am using the same procedure for Bluray and DVD).
The problem is when I ask Encore to transcode and generate a DVD disc, the quality is below the worst VHS tape.
I have tryed to use diferents export settings, but I am not so sure about the right configuration to reach the higest quality.
Apart from CS6 is there anything better to improve the DVD quality?
Is it possible to use Dual Layers DVD in order to improve the quality?
    Thank you very much,
    Rog.

When you export from a PPro AVCHD timeline to MPEG2-DVD you are changing the resolution to SD
The tutorial list in message #3 http://forums.adobe.com/message/2276578 may help
Yes, but there is more to it than this.
When you render from AVCHD 1080i to MPEG-2 DVD, you are not only changing the resolution from a sort of HD (to my way of thinking, nothing that is interlaced should ever be described as "High Definition" as there is far more to it than the pixel count) you are also going down to an extremely lossy form of SD.
Personally, I would always split the 2 tasks & scale to SD first (interim 10-bit) and then encode that to MPEG-2. It seems to get better results.
I would first render from PPro as a 10-bit uncompressed quicktime (Aja codec or similar) or a lossless AVI such as Lagarith, and then run that to MPEG-2.
As the source & the final are both interlaced great care must also be taken to maintain the correct field order, or there may be a very nasty artefact issue.

  • Sony HDR SR11 Questions

I recently bought the Voltaic converting software so I could convert and edit my clips in FCP 5.0.4 and have finished my edit, but I was wondering what is the best way to export this movie and get HD quality out of the footage that I filmed on my Sony HDR SR11?
Exporting the project to .mov clearly isn't HD quality. Is there anyway to export my project in a way that will be closer to HD quality?
This is my first time to use any type of HD camera.
    Thanks

If you Control-Click the Sequence in the Browser it will open the Sequence Settings window where you can modify the settings to match your clip settings.
After you have done that it might be a good idea to double-click one of the clips in your sequence to load it into the Viewer. Check the Motion tab to see if any distortion has been applied to your clip. If it has, you can remove it there. Then Cmd-C to copy this clip, select ALL the clips in your sequence and Alt-V to bring up the Paste Attributes window. Make sure "Distort" is checked and click "OK". This will undistort all your clips.
To work in HD I would recommend using [Toast 9|www.roxio.com] to convert your AVCHD files to a format which can be edited on your Mac. You'll need to confirm Toast is compatible with your Mac. [Voltaic|www.shedworx.com] can also be used but Toast is much faster and offers more conversion options.

  • Exporting graphics over interlaced futage

I would realy aprishiate your help on this one!!
And sory for my poor english.
working on pc p5q deluxe core2quad 8gb ram vista 64
    After effects cs4
Im working on 1920:1080 50i square pixels uper field first futage and I aplied some graphics in after effects. But when I render it in same interlace resolution and import (interpretate futage) the futage looks good but graphics like text and every other element drown in after effects looks in poor resolution. I have to deliver interlaced futage and i tryed everything I could think of with no resoults.
befour rendering I render preview and everything looks perfect, but when I render it(1920:1080, sqere picsel, uper field first, TIFF sequence, same as the footage) and import renderd sequence back on top of layers to compare, the footage looks perfect but graphics look 5% blured.
Is it posibile that only a part of the same, renderd footage is previewed incorectly ??
I always interpretate futage as it is captured or renderd.
Delivery metod is a little tricky too, I have to export to editors interlaced footage so they could put it in their project and further down the line they will send whole film to the laboratory so they can deinterlace everything together and transfer it to 35mm so even if it looks good on interlaced monitor will it look the same on the film??
    plese help!!

Thank you so much four reply, I tried with OpenGL rendering on and off but the problem is still there
and I watched it on interlaced monitor, it looked little better but not perfect. But I realy think that the problem is in my work flow so I made this smaller and much simpler project where I get the same kind of defect and maybe you could tell me where I made mistake??
-open new project make new comp(dv pal sqere picsel) and make one text leyer(I wrote "test" with big futura bold font, white font against black bg).
then animate text, I applied expresion to rotation time*120. Add to render queue and go to render settings and set field render to upper field first
quality best resolution full ofcourse, and in otput module chouse TIff sequence and render it.
Then I imported renderd tiffs, interpreted them as upper field first and edges of the text look like they lost a half of resolution horisontaly.
..ok, if its my monitor than i shuld be able to deinterlace that and see a normal picture right??
Add that new comp to render queue and export with same settings just change upper fild to no field. and again i get the same problem vith edges.
obviesly i make some mistake in that proces but if that same proces works great with captured interlaced futage why do I get this problems with grphics made in after efeects and how do you combine those two(interlaced fotage and AE graphics) and export them as same interlaced footage??
Is that the right way of interlacing the graphics made in after efeects??
and Thank you once again, I will appreciate any thoughts and help on the subject.

  • FCE and Sony HDR-SR11

Does anyone know if FCE supports Sony's new HDR-SR11?

I can't see why not. I just got a MAC on Tuesday and have FCE 4, and I am using a Sony HDR-SR8, the older model (got it just last August), and it works just fine. Don't know why they discontinued the model but looking at the new models HDR-SR11 and SR12, they both use the AVCHD technology so they should work fine with FCE 4.

  • OneStep asking for firewire connection-my Sony HDR-SR11 doesn't have firewire port. Help.

The question says it all.  I wanted to use OneStep to move all my home movies to a DVD, but iDVD is asking me to connect via firewire and my video camera-a Sony HDR-SR11-doesn't have a firewire port.  I don't want to go through the extra step of importing into imovie because that will take a ton of time.  Any other suggestions?

Only 2 options that come to mind. The first is to do a one step from a movie (as opposed to a one step from from the camera) within the file menu in iDvd. And yes, you will have to export first from the video editing app (iMovie / FCP) prior to using iDvd's One Step. No way to avoid this when using apple's iLife.
The other option is to use a hardware approach; something like Sony's Dvdirect that requires no PC and burns directly to DvD-R at the touch of one button. Menus aren't as nice as iDvd's but the quality is very good. Try ebay if this option appeals to you. I picked up one for about the same price as iLife software.
Hope this helps but if not just come on back.

  • Log and transfer from HDR-SR11 Sony

    Dear All,
I am trying to import a video from a HD CAMERA HDR-SR11, but the size of the imported video is too heavy, I am getting 1GIGA per minute. Does anyone know how to reduce the file size during the importing process, perhaps reducing the quality?
    The format that I am getting is Apple ProRes 422, 1440 x 1080 (1920 x 1080), Millions
    16-bit Integer (Little Endian), Stereo (L R), 48.000 kHz.
    Thanks a lot for helping.
    All the best,
    Nicko
Message was edited by: San Nickolasito

Shouldn't be the same size of the file in the camera?
    Hey Nicko,
No mate. The camera format is a heavily compressed MPEG4 variant (AVCHD). This is a modern acquisition format, and not a camera native edit format supported directly within FCP. The AVCHD support offered by FCP is through Log and Transfer which transcodes the files to a more edit friendly format that you can work with. The choices at present are AIC and ProRes. You could recompress them again if you wanted to a more compressed (smaller) format, but you'd lose time and quality, and disc space is cheap these days.

  • HDV exports cause overlayed interlaced frames

Recently we've started shooting with a Canon XH A1 in 1080/50i. We capture as HDV and the footage looks stunning in FCP. But when we export (tried various formats and codecs) the resulting movie have every frame being a combination of its two interlaced frames - not sure if thats the right way to describe it, but the following still shows it pretty well.
    http://www.fatsand.com/videos/DoubleFrames_Test_v1still.jpg
The following video shows it too. THe first half is a clip exported normally, the second half is the same clip but de-interlaced in FCP - which works fine.

But I don't want to have to de-interlace all my footage, otherwise I might as well have shot in 25p!
Anyone else have this issue - I can't see what else I can do in FCP, but should I be doing something else during capture or even when filming?
    Thanks

  • Importing movies from Sony Handycam HDR-SR11 into iMovie HD 6.0.3

I am unable to open the .MTS clips in iMovie HD 6.0.3 that I've copied to my hard drive via a USB connection from the HDR-SR11. This would be my first time attempting to use iMovie and have troubleshooted to no avail. I am unable to find a clear answer as to whether the movies from this model Sony camcorder would work with my current version of iMovie. Would I need to upgrade and purchase iLife '09?

Hi swimnfred7 - welcome to the forum!
.MTS files are AVCHD- based - a form of MPEG format. iMovie HD needs .dv formatted material, imported into iMovie via a firewire connection. It may be possible to convert your files to .dv (not certain about that) using:
    MPEG StreamClip (free):
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/video/mpegstreamclip.html
    Apple MPEG2 PlayBack ($20):
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2/
It may be that you will instead need to use the latest imovie variant - iMovie 09.
I'm sure others will help you out here.
