HDTV connection using vga---- compositve

Hi. I recently bought the mini-dvi to vga converter for my macbook to connect it to my television, and it works great. I just bought another HDTV however, and it does not have a vga input. After some research, I'd like to set up a connection between my mac and the tv using component rather than the popular hdmi (i've read some bad things). i'm looking into buying a vga to rca component cord to connect the two devices (plug in the mini-dvi to vga adapter into the mac, then connect the vga>rca cord from the adapter to the tv, and then of course buy a separate audio cord as well). does anyone know if my mac model (the black one) can support this type of configuration. i have an intel gma x3100 chipset card.

You would need to connect your mac using HDMI to do this you need two adapters:
http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB204G/A mini dvi to dvi
http://store.apple.com/us/product/TR842LL/A hdmi to dvi
or startech makes a single cable that converts mini dvi to HDMI
http://www.startech.com/item/MDVIHDMIMF-Mini-DVI-Adapter-to-HDMI.aspx if you use froogle to search for a low price you can find this cable for about 15 dollars. on amazon a similar cable is only 5 dollars.
It's important to note these cables do not transmit audio.

The OP specifically stated that he'd rather not use HDMI. What you are suggesting will theoretically work, however, it's hard to judge exact configurations, and the only way to find out for sure is to try it out. Your MacBook will support this, however some features such as display detection may not work with the component converter.
Hope this helps you!

To map the drive on your computer click on Start - RUN - type "\\192.168.1.1" and click ok... When prompted for Username and Password type "admin" and click ok... Now you will be able to see the folder which you have shared on  your router, right click on it and select "Map network drive" and click on finish.
Now it will map the drive on your computer and you should be able to transfer the file from your computer to the USB drive.

  • What to buy?  I want to close it up & use VGA TV screen

Can you tell me what to buy? I have a Mac OSX 10.5.8 Intel MacBook. I want to close the case and use a separate keyboard and my HDTV as a monitor. The TV has a VGA connector like this:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VGA_connector
There is a lot of contradictory advice on what to buy and I live in Japan so it's harder to get good advice. I'd be happy to hear from you.
By the way, if I close the case to the Macbook and connect to my TV I assume I can use the computer as normal if I have a keyboard. Am I right?

    Hi Deepest Forest,
In order to engage "clamshell mode" you'll also have to have a mouse connected, in addition to that keyboard. You can use either USB or Bluetooth, you just need to make sure that they're both connecting the same way (can't do a USB keyboard and Bluetooth mouse).
Does your TV not have a DVI or HDMI connection? VGA is usually an analog signal, whereas the machine is outputting a digital signal. There's the prospects of clarity loss.

  • Need solutions for PC to HDTV connection

Alright folks after searching around and not finding exactly what I'm looking for, it's time to post a new thread. I've been to multiple sites reading their information, watching their videos, trying what they say to do. No joy still. I have a question about connecting my bosses older computer to a new HDTV, the vision here is a room full of decision makers with my boss at his computer running a PowerPoint presentation, (so we can all see it without crowding around his desk) then we make decisions as a workgroup, looking at the HDTV from around the table. He also needs to have the PPT presentation on both his monitor, and the HDTV screen. Computer Specs: DELL Optiplex 760 Video Adapter: ATI Radeon HD 3450 w/DVI-D out, and 4 pin S-video out The video adapter DVI out has a splitter cable attached that connects via VGA connectors to two DELL monitors. The S-Video port is unused (I tried to connect this way but could not). HDTV Specs: The HDTV has S-Video in, HDMI x3, RCA, VGA x1. Cables available for use: 25' VGA w/audio 20' S-Video 4-pin Can we connect using current hardware or do we need to purchase extra hardware? What type of hardware? We have BestBuy stores # 763 and 852 at our disposal if materials need to be purchased.

There is no reason other than hardware failure for your S-Video not working.  Make sure that when your S-Video is connected, you change the PC's display to clone mode.  Right click anywhere on the desktop and click on the ATI Catalyst Control Center.  If it prompts you to choose between basic or advanced, choose advanced.  The menu to left should have a "Manage Displays" option or something similar.  You can set the monitors to clone from there.  If you do not have a Catalyst option after you right click, you can go into display properties then settings then Catalyst Control Center.
This is probably something you already know, but just in case... Make sure the TV's source is set to S-Video

  • Cannot use VGA output on my Satellite A100

I have Satellite A100 laptop and when I use the VGA output my monitor informs their is NO signal. I have checked my monitor and it does work.
What I would like to know since their is no signal output from my VGA does this also mean that the *S-Video* will not have any signal either?
I dont have a S-Video >> VGA adapter as present trying to save the cost of buying one if it does not work...

I really don't know what are you doing wrong?
Is your notebook connected with VGA cable or with some adapter to the VGA port on your notebook?
When monitor is connected please use FN+F5 key combination to switch between LCD display and connected monitor.
    Does this work?

  • Audio noise when using VGA   firewire

I am using a MBP 2010, purchased in August.  I am running ProTools and AbletonLive out to speakers through firewire via M-Audio Firewire 410 and/or through the Digi002 Mixer.  I have an external firewire hard drive that I have turned off during this problem, so it has not effect.
Additionally, I have an extra monitor connected via VGA to a miniDisplayPort>VGA connector.  When I plug this into the MBP I receive a lot of unwanted noise out of the speakers.  I have tried to unplug the power source to the MBP and the problem continues.  I have the option of trying a miniDisplayPort>DVI connector to the extra monitor, however I have to purchase that connector.
Has anyone encountered this problem?  Any suggestions on how to remedy it?  It is really difficult to do any audio work with the awful noise in the speakers, and while I can do with just the MBP monitor, it is nice to have a second monitor.
    Thanks

I have been dealing with this exact problem for years!
The noise is now doing my head in and I'd love to get it fixed.
Another thread: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/1807161?start=0&tstart=0 suggested using a ground loop isolator. However, they were dealing with RCA connectors.
I am using a Fast Track MAudio Ultra 8r, with my Mac Book.
So I'm sure I could isolate the noise between the speaker and the sound card - but I would need to use XLR or TRS, which the thread also warns against using such a device.
(I used to own a Berhinger hum destroyer.
It worked a little, but not only did it seem make the signal sound thin, it also had Berhinger written on it.)
Both my HP w1907v display and my MAudio card are plugged into the same power supply.
(As are you, I'm converting mac minidisplay port to VGA.)
I'm starting to think it might have something to do with the cheap monitor.
What kind of monitor are you using?
Is it sharing the power source with the Digi 002?
Does the noise you hear also get affected by mouse movement?
Maybe you've found a solution already!?
If so I'd be very grateful to hear about it.

  • Hide Password - While connected to VGA or Airplay

iPads are great for displaying presentations, but logging into services while presenting is a security concern.
Since iOS was created, you have been able to see the user type their password on the keyboard and the last letter they have typed in the password field on a connected display or projector. You even can see when people type in pin codes. This is big security concern for us, since faculty have to login to services while they present in class. I'm surprised that these isn't a way to mask your passwords and pin codes while connected to VGA or airplay. It seems like common sense to me that if iPads are going to be seriously used for business and educational presentations, that this feature should at least be added to configurator.
Also, to those of you that think we should type faster, not everyone can type quickly on a touch screen. We see instructors slowly pecking in passwords and it's keeping us from recommending anything that requires a login. Touch ID sounds interesting but these iPads are shared with several faculty and are left in the classroom.
Does anyone else agree that we need this feature?

I agree completely.  If Apple can override 3-rd party keyboards when passwords being entered then they could certainly also prevent the display of password characters when projecting from iOS.  I have found myself disconnecting the VGA cable or using the projector remote to "blank" the screen when entering passwords.  As presenting from iOS devices becomes more popular they should really address this.
we should all submit official feedback to request a solution in a future iOS update:  https://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html

  • RetinaDisplay MBP not displaying correctly connected to VGA Projector

I am not sure if this is a Mountain Lion issue or Retina MBP issue
    New MBP.
hooked it up to a VGA projector tonight ( Apple store folk told me to use the same minidisplayport adapter I used with my older MBP which did  fit the Thunderbolt port.
Monitor and Mac saw each other but my MBP did not project correct resolution or dimensions
MBP still seemed to think it was connected to my 27" monitor at home.
Is this an adapter issue? a MBP issue? a Mountain Lion issue
    Something was amiss
    Any ideas?

Doesn't work that way with the Retina display
    a)  I never had to select a resolution previously when connecting a VGA projector. My previous Mac auto adjusted its resolution
    b) The preference does not allow choices of resolution as in the past
Look at how differnt this preference is
If I chose Scaled I get a few choices of larger or smaler text.
There may be some options in the main menu bar which Ineed to look at when connecting a monitor ( based on some other posts elsewhere in this Apple discussion area.Dunno... I am sure I am overlookign something  but the old auto adjust is gone, I think

  • Quad+Geforce 7800 GT, can't connect 2 VGA monitors

DVI connectors, on the card, are too close to fit two DVI to VGA adaptor cables.
Apple supplies a DVI extender that is a little thinner but the female do not match the DVI to VGA plug.
On the male DVI to VGA adapter there are 4 pins more not present in the DVI adapter, so that connection it's not allowed. What's goin on?
Apple tech help. How can we connect 2 VGA monitors?
    eri

Eraldo - I had the same problem as you. Apple even sent me a new DVI-DVI extender cable but that one also had the small slotted pin receptacle that was too small for any of my DVI-VGA adapters. We finally found one that the extender DID fit, and that was the DVI connector that connects to my main display, a 20" Cinema. So the solution was to use the extender cable on my Cinema cable (on port 1) and use the other DVI-VGA or whatever connectors on port #2, straight into the Mac without the extension.
