HDV 1080i50 or 1080i60?

Hi all!
Confused about media import and sequence settings.
In my Audio/Video Settings (in the Summary tab) I have the Sequence Preset set to HDV 1080i50, yet when the clip is imported, in the browser the Compressor shows HDV 1080i60. The sequence shows the same 1080i60 for the Compressor.
If am capturing HDV 1080i50 from my Canon HV20, should have the same 1080i50 preset for my sequence?
is there a major difference between the 50 and the 60?
thanks,
Gabster

Thanks a lot! That makes sense!
cheers!

  • Capturing HDV 1080i50 with Sony HVR-Z1U

Long winded question... hope someone can offer some insight.
The answer to this may have been posted earlier, but sifting through the topics, I couldn't find any relating. If someone could be so kind to link me to any related topics, that would be helpful.
I'm editing a project in Final Cut Pro 5.0.4 that is a mix of HDV and DV, but will be finishing the final product in HDV. I've edited the original project in regular DV, but am batch capturing in the HDV footage according my XML.
But I can't seem to connect the camera.
Easy Setup: HDV - 1080i50 gives me an error "Unable to locate the following external devices: HDV (1440 x 1080) 2 fps)"
Going into Audio/Visual Settings and setting Capture settings to HDV and Device control preset to HDV Firewire gives me an error "Unable to initialize capture device and device control" (or for any device control preset with the HDV Capture setting for that matter)
Any device control preset with "HDV - Apple intermediate codec" will give me an error with "Unable to initialize HDV deck. Please make sure a deck is connected and try again".
Camera: In/Out VCR mode is set to Auto, i.Link Converter is set to "Off", A/V->DV Out is set to on.
Camera is on and plugged in. I've tried plugging the firewire into different ports and have also tried various firewire cables. Sometimes the device is controllable, but all it does is play the tape, never gets around to capturing anything.
    .... sigh....
    Thanks in advance,

AIC is not going to work for recapture, AIC doesn't use the original timecode off the master tape. Make sure you setup HDV 50i and before connecting the firewire cables go into the camera vtr mode then menu, then rec in out and set the ilink convert to off for HDV. the Camera will show HDV lights. Then connect to the computer and open log and capture.

  • HDV 1080i50 to SD MASTER Workflow

    Hello all.
I am working now on a documentary, shot on Sony HDV 1080i50, 70 hours material, to be delivered in DIGIBETA PAL, and I am looking to the best approach to edit and finish it. Coming from the AVID World (yes, I confess...) and having worked not so much with FCP, I really need some help with this project. I will tell you what I do have in mind, and I kindly ask you to tell me if I am crazy or it makes some sense. I do have some specific questions as well. Thank you for your help. Here is my plan:
    1 – CAPTURE.
70 hours captured in DV (already have!) in order to monitor easyly and work without long GOP.
    2 – OFF LINE EDITING.
Normal documentary editing. I will zoom/resize the picture a lot. As I shoot in HDV and will deliver in SD PAL, I understand I have a big margin to zoom in an image without any quality loss when downsizing back to PAL. For instance, I only made one wide shot for the interviews. I will use this shot and then zoom the picture for a close up of the face... That is the main idea. How should I do these frame resizes, direct with FCP or should I use some special plug in?
    3 – ONLINE.
Recapture all material in the Sequence in HD. Now I do not know if I should do it on HDV (remember: we are going back to SD for output) or should I use one of the PRORES 422 Apple codecs. What do you think? All the frame resizes and picture effects will be kept on the recapture, or?
    4 – IMAGE FINISHING.
Do the colour correction and image finishing (with the HD material). Control and finish all the image movements, zooms and resizes. Apply effects, we do have to make some face blur and things like that. Should I do the colour correction on HD or should I make it once I have already downsized to SD, after step 5?
5 – RENDER TO SD FOR OUTPUT.
Here I do not know how to do it, but I want to convert my HD (HDV or PRORES 422) Sequence to an SD Uncompressed PAL 4:2:2 10bit Sequence. How do I do this? Here I do not have nay idea… Could you please help me? Will all the resizes and zoom be kept with the correct resolution when I downsize?
    6 – AUDIO FINISHING.
    Audio mixing and audio effects.
    7 – OUTPUT IN SD
Export of a Quicktime SD Uncompressed PAL 4:2:2 with 10bit and print to tape.
Should I export direct from FCP or use Compressor or something?
    That’s it!
Please, I would ask you to take some time an help me. If thewe is something that is not clear or you need more information, fell free to write me or post and I will answer as soon as I can. Thanks again.

    Fantin,
Not the exact answer to your question but hopefully helpful.
My workflow with HDV is as follows:
-Capture as HDV (same data rate as DV so might as well)
-Do a basic picture edit, avoiding anything fancy (long render times with long GOP as you know)
-Use Media manager to up convert to DVCProHD
-Apply all my dissolves, effects etc.
    -Do sound mix in FCP
-Use FCP and Color to grade
-Export to SD DVD using Compressor via FCP timeline.
    or you could presumably
-Drop onto tape using a Kona or Blacmagic card
Don't think you'll get any better quality going 10 bit uncompressed if you're starting with HDV - might as well stick with DVCProHD.
In terms of zooming into HDV footage to achieve a good quality SD frame, Im not sure the method above would accommodate that. I've always done this in the past by dropping my HDV footage directly into an SD timeline and then zooming from there - this might mean of course that you'll need to export you're entire project as DV50 Anamorphic and then replace the zoomed in wide shots onto that.
I suspect if you just zoom into the HDV on a HDV or ProRes timeline this wouldn't translate well in SD.

  • Compressor settings for HDV 1080i50?

    hi,
i have to export 1h30 of HDV 1080i50 to make it play on a dvd.
could you, please give me some suggestions how to make this?

ok...this is my first use of this kind of material and i don't know witch compressor settings i could use.is it possible to burn an HD DVD with my imac or i can use a SD DVD preserving a maximum quality? the answer will determinate the compressor settings i could use... for know i have tried, the last 4 days, to use H.264 so it can fit into a sd dvd (changing the average bit rate) but after more than 24h the encoding process is 1/4 of the entire video...and i've stopped it. i don't know if it's a normal to take soo much time or if i'm making a mistake doing it.so please, help

  • Displaying HDV 1080i50 .mov file in FCE captured with Final Cut Pro

    Hi
I cannot display (in Final Cut Express) a clip in a .mov file that contains HDV 1080i50. The file was created on a different Mac computer running Final Cut Pro. The source was a Sony Z1 camera. No hardware card was used.
I get the error message in FCE - "Codec not found. You may be using a compression type without the corresponding hardware card"
Can Final Cut Express work with HDV 1080i50 created from FCP?

You didn't say what format the video was, but you can use MPEG Streamclip to convert that video to something that works in FCE.
The important thing is that you'll want to match the settings you convert this video to so that it matches your timeline settings. This will make everything much easier to work with and eliminates the need to constantly render the timeline.
Do you have other content you are going to be working with in addition to just this one clip? If it's just this one clip, you will probably want to use the "Easy Setup" settings of HD, AVCHD-Applie Intermediate Codec 1920x1080i50. You'll want to use MPEG StreamClip to convert that video to matching settings -- specifically tell it to convert to AIC (Apple Intermediate Codec). If you have other media/clips you're working with in addition to this one, you'll then need to decide what format you want to use for the timeline and Easy Setup. If you post those details, we can try to help out.

  • Captured on the DVX-100 what happens when I export it to HDV-1080i50

I Captured footage on the DVX-100, what happens when I export it to HDV-1080i50.
    Is it then considered HD?

The short answer is "yes, BUT…"
DVX-100 is a DV camera, thus it only captures DV. You can export your DV sequence to whatever format you desire, like HDV (a consumer-level version of HD), but that doesn't mean it will look as good as footage natively shot in HD. You gain no quality at all, in fact you lose quality due to scaling the footage up from the DV to HDV framesize. There are workflows for upconverting your DV footage to HDV or HD posted all over this forum and elsewhere on the Net. A quick search should give you some insight into the process.

  • HDV video is 1080i60, FCP exports as 1080i50?

Exporting my 1080i60 project using the FCP basic "qucktime export" shows up as a 1080i50 file when played in QT. Also encodes to a PAL DVD format when using Compressor. The "easy setup" menu shows the proj as 1080i60.
Edit: I also checked the imported HDV video in QT and the "Item Properties" for FCP. They both show up as 1080i60. The camera I am using is a HDR HC1 1080i60.

go to the compressor type column in the browser and compare your footage and sequence settings. make sure they all match.

  • HDV video is 1080i60, FCE exports as 1080i50?

Select the sequence in the browser and go to item properties. What exactly does it say? What export function are you using?

  • HDV 1080i50 - urgent guidance and help required.

    Hi guys,
I need to send a 129 minutes HDV feature (with a few DVD Pro and Targa frames) project that i have just finished editing to:
    1) SD DVD
    2) HD DVD
    3) Master Digital(Hard Disk)
    4) Master Digital to Tape.
    The project is as follows;
    Captured footage: HDV 1080 i50
Some additional footage is in Targa and DVCPro file formats.
    Frame Size: 1440 x1080 @ 25 fps
    AIFF Audio 48Khz / 16 bit.
The Sequence and Compressor codec is set to ProRes 422(HQ) and all else to 'BEST'.
I have, so far, exported the entire nested project from FCP as a self contained Quicktime movie and the file size is 24.5GB. The result gave me lots of interlacing errors showing all over. The DVCPro and Targa data(video) didn't show).
I haven't used compressor before (except for the web)and was hoping for some guidance from you all on which settings to use for the above four options.
Also, if I need to print to film later, since the video is interlaced, is it going to cause problems?
Does Compressor de-interlace or do I 'select all' in FCP and hit de-interlace?
    Thanks,
    Himayath.

The same thing happened to me today. Did you find any help? I am about to order a DC in board and try that. Hopefully it's not the logic board. Any help is really appreciated! Thanks, Chris

  • Problem displaying HDV 1080i50

In the viewer I'm experiencing a strange problem - video at the start of clips looks terribly pixelated and blocky, and sometimes it appears that the first frame is not from that clip but from earlier on, until you play and then it corrects itself.
I've tried changing the playback video quality settings but the problem persists. When I render and export the footage there are no problems, it's only happening in the view for some reason.
    Can anybody please help?

Anyone? This is driving me crazy. It seems to be getting worse. It will now only play one or two frame before freezing the image, and that is a mess of blocky pixels.

  • How to watch HDV 1080i50, Integer (Big Endian), Timecode, QT exp. from FCP

    Hi,
i have the above named files but cant watch them at all. They are exported from FCPro to QT; i only have FCpro 4.1 which does not open or import the files. I cant find any ways to watch these files, but need to open and extract stills from them. Audio is played, but only black screen. I tried perian etc, nothing openes the files correctly. Thanks

Sorry, you either going to need FCP 5 or 6 to work with these videos.

    Hi,
I've just bought the Mpeg-2 module for QuickTime for Windows, I've installed it and it does not work.
It cannot read .mov files with codec HDV 1080i50.
I can hear the sound, but I cannot watch the video.
Please, may somebody help me ?
    Thanks
    Mario

How to read a .mov file with the HDV codec on my PC ?
The file has been edited using Final Cut Pro on a Mac.
I have to edit the titles and realise the DVD authoring, but I cannot use it.
I've bought the module after reading on the Apple website that the module could read this kind of file on QuickTime Pro.
Any idea to read it on a PC?
    Thanks

  • 1080i50 HDV footage question

I need to encode some HDV 1080i50 footage to .m2v for a DVD release, which I have been asked to supply as a progressive encode.
Would it be best to run it through Cinema Tools to make it progressive before running it through Compressor for the encode?
Can somebody advise me of the best way to achieve this?

The best quality conversion would be to use Compressor,
with Frame Controls activated. Set Output fields
to Progressive and experiment to see whether you
can use the Deinterlace menu set to Better,
or if you need to go with Best (which takes a looooong time).
