Hdv 1080i60 MOV file: all I get is audio, video is white

Greetings,
I received some hi-def video files from a guy who shot some footage for me. They are .mov files. Here's the FInder info for one of them:
Dimensions: 1440 x 1080
Codecs: HDV 1080i60, Integer (Big Endian), Timecode
Duration: 05:10
Channel count: 2
Total bit rate: 26,483
When I drag this clip into FCE, all I get is the audio. The video portion is solid white.
The clip plays correctly in VLC. How can I get it to play in FCE?
Thanks!
DM

Native HDV is not supported in FCE. The material needs to be converted to the Apple Intermediate Codec. Without knowing exactly how the material was captured using what application and platform it's impossible to say. If it was captured using Final Cut Pro, that application or Compressor will have to be used to convert the media.

If I 1) knew TeX well enough to fix it, and 2) could get the guy to answer the phone or email so as to give me the sourcecode or to fix it himself, I wouldn't have bothered figuring out that the thing could be fixed one page at a time by a) getting a copy of acrobat pro, b) figuring out how to turn on all of the extra toolkits, c) finding the edit object button in randomly named toolkit, d) right clicking on the chapter title and selecting the e) ever so obvious "delete clip" menu selection.
At this point I would absolutely love to never have to touch an adobe product again in my life, but my hand has been dealt and if I'm going to print the manual for a software library that we've spent a cumulative $70,000 for, I have to figure this out and I really don't want to have to hit [Page Down], [Ctrl] + [A], Right click, delete clip for >700 pages.
I felt certain that once I'd figured out how to shift the pages down using ghostscript so first two lines of each page weren't getting cut off in the printer non-printable region, and finally figured out this that a relatively simple scripting solution would be immediately apparant.  I mean, there are APIs for both applescript and javascript, but I'm mystified by how to get to the edit object feature from within them, much less how to tell that feature to delete clips for everything on a page.

when I try to download a pdf file all I get is a black screen

    Back up all data.
Triple-click the line of text below to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it as well, if it's present.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

I can't play MPEG4.avi, or any other, video  - all I get is "The video player has stopped working. Please relaunch".  Please tell me what to do.

I took the video in 2009.  I can't remember the camera model I took it with and the other information you request does not show up in the "i" panel in iPhoto.
My version of iPhoto 11 is 9.2.3.

  • Can't use HDV quicktime .mov files (captured in Final Cut Pro) on a mac at work) on my PC at home

    Hiya everyone!
I've taken some work home from the macs at work, but can't open it on my PC.
Footage was captured in FCP on a mac at work, HDV quicktime .mov, but won't open in the newest quicktime, windows media player and more importantly in Adobe After Effects CS3 or Premiere Pro CS3 on my PC at home.
When I try opening the files in quicktime, the screen is white, but the audio plays. They don't open in windows media player at all. When I try to import them into Premiere, I get a message reading, "Error Message, Codec missing or unavailable". But they import into After Effects, except they only play as white...
I've tried converting them into almost everything, and they often play (as .avi for example in the newest QT, WMP, Adobe Premiere and AE), but they increase A LOT in size and decrease A LOT in quality.
The HDV files that won't open read as:
    Source: *.mov
    Format: HDV 1080i50, 1920 x 1080, Millions 16-bit Integer (Little Endian), 48.000 kHz
    Movie FPS: 25.00
    Playing FPS: (Available when playing)
    Data Size: 69.53 MB
    Data Rate: 28.10 mbits/sec
    Current time: 00:00:01.64
    Duration: 00:00:20.76
    Normal size: 1920 x 1080
    Current size: 1920 x 1080
Anything smaller than 1920 x 1080 plays fine.
I've been all through google, and the adobe and apple sites, and the best I could find is here:

My problem is almost identical to these 2...
No one in the whole world seems to have an answer...
Does anyone here know how I can use the HDV files from the work macs on my PC at home?

As a rule of thumb, any CoDec associated with the Apple Pro applications is generally not available on Windows. This also includes their flavor of HDV. The only exception at this point is ProRes, for which they added a player component recently. So therefore this would have to be what you use for capture/ export from FCP. Apart from that you can of course always buy a capture card from Blackmagic or AJA with the benefit of the CoDecs being available cross-platform... Or you use a commercial software-only CoDec like Cineform.

HEy, I have been looking into this problem... i also wanted to play quicktime files using my pc... The last thing i tried was downloadiing these codecs
    1)apple pro res *for pc
    2)mpeg 2 codec for pc
I have HDV files captured on a Mac G5 they are 30p 720,
I think i am close to solving the problem because: before installing the codecs i couldn't see the video and only audio.. but now i open it and i can see the video partially... here are my screen captures....
anyone interested in getting this solved???,... i would also like some help in importing m2t files from VLC player to HDV split where they can be read and edited. Thank you.
Ultimately my goal is to be able to edit these HDV files directly and export them back out with good quality.. because my only editing choice right now is Windows movie maker.
this is an error i got from the HDV split program. Its supposed to read m2t files..

  • Displaying HDV 1080i50 .mov file in FCE captured with Final Cut Pro

    Hi
I cannot display (in Final Cut Express) a clip in a .mov file that contains HDV 1080i50. The file was created on a different Mac computer running Final Cut Pro. The source was a Sony Z1 camera. No hardware card was used.
I get the error message in FCE - "Codec not found. You may be using a compression type without the corresponding hardware card"
Can Final Cut Express work with HDV 1080i50 created from FCP?

You didn't say what format the video was, but you can use MPEG Streamclip to convert that video to something that works in FCE.
The important thing is that you'll want to match the settings you convert this video to so that it matches your timeline settings. This will make everything much easier to work with and eliminates the need to constantly render the timeline.
Do you have other content you are going to be working with in addition to just this one clip? If it's just this one clip, you will probably want to use the "Easy Setup" settings of HD, AVCHD-Applie Intermediate Codec 1920x1080i50. You'll want to use MPEG StreamClip to convert that video to matching settings -- specifically tell it to convert to AIC (Apple Intermediate Codec). If you have other media/clips you're working with in addition to this one, you'll then need to decide what format you want to use for the timeline and Easy Setup. If you post those details, we can try to help out.

  • A mov file plays in 'Get Info' preview, but not in Quicktime

I recorded a talk to web cam yesterday using Quicktime Pro and edited out the overlong pauses and fluffs to produce a series of .mov clips. Today I copied and pasted the clips into one .mov file in Quicktime Pro. The first 12 clips were fine.
The 13th clip opened as if it was audio only, but when played did not give any sound. An examination of the movie properties window showed about 3 minutes of audio and video, but neither were selected and could not be selected. When I tried to extract the video thinking I could then reassemble the file, I got a message saying that one of my raw clips was missing. The file was saved as self-contained and is about 7 MBytes. When it opens with the appearance of an audio file the last part of the clip I pasted in is highlighted as if selected; this corresponds to the file it is asking for.
Now I had deleted my raw data as my hard drive is nearly full and I was getting warnings to that effect. But as the files had been saved as self-contained rather than reference, this should surely not be a problem.
The strange thing is that if I select the .mov file and do a 'get info' then I can play the audio and video perfectly in the 'get info' preview plan, up until that final part corresponding to the missing file.
It looks like I have to do the last bit once more, but how can I keep the rest of it? I've tried deleting the final part and re-saving, but it still opens with the appearance of an audio file (which is silent when I play it). I can at least listen to what I said in the first recording, but it would be good to be able to keep the part that plays in 'get info'.
Any ideas of how I can get to it?
    Any ideas.

    Solution found.
I simply created a new .mov file and changed its name to the raw file that Quicktime told me was missing when I tried to open my edited clip.
The edited clip now opens and I've been able to delete the final portion (which appears selected when the clip opens) and save the rest, which plays fine.
This seems to have been a problem because in this particular clip I left the final portion I pasted in selected when I saved the file, even though I saved is as self-contained, not a reference file.

  • Published a Mov File and I get a Quicktime Symbol with a ? What can i do?

I published a site with iWeb with a .Mov file in it about 20 seconds long. When it finished publishing, i checked out the website and instead of the video playing, i see a QUICKTIME symbol with a (?) question mark on it. what can i do to make this work. should i format the .Mov file to avi, mpeg-4 or another? help me guys, pls. thanks.

It's not an iWeb issue. Rather a QuickTime one.
Your original movie is 29,1MB (rather large for 20 seconds) and 960x540 pixels and Apple Intermediate Codec.
It is displayed on your webpage as 772x450 (not proportionally).
When I scale it to 800x450 (proportionally) and export it to QuickTime as h.264 and Faststart it only is 709kB.
About 1/40th. And hardly any noticeable loss of quality.
Lately there's an influx of videoprofessionals who have difficulty putting their movies on the web. Perhaps some masterclasses would be in order.
I'm not a professional, but I think I know a trick or two:

  • *.mov files play on ipad without audio

I have recently transferred some *.mov files from my PC to iPad. These files play perfectly well on PC in both Quicktime Player and Windows Media Player. However, when I try to play them on iPad, I get video only (no sound). I have latest versions of all softwares so cannot figure out why iPad is not playing audio of only these files. I had some old *.mov files on my iPad which play perfectly well (both video and audio) so how can I fix this problem.

I had some WMV files which I had converted to *.MOV using AVS Video Converter. I have compared the properties of old *.MOV files which play on iPad perfectly well (using QuickTime Player) with the properties of the newly-transferred files and they are exactly the same in every aspect. Is it possible that because of low memory (about 4GB) left on iPad after the new files' transfer, the audio is not playing on iPad?

  • .mov file in Adobe Premere Elements 13 Video Editor

Colors keep changing, black to white and to all odd colors of the rainbow.

On what computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 13 running?
And what is the brand/model/settings of the camera that recorded the .mov file?
Please go to Publish+Share/Computer/QuickTime and tell us if you see QuickTIme presets there.
I am suspecting that none of the above is at the core of your issue and I want to explore that.
Open a new project. Go to Edit Menu/Preferences/General and make sure that there is a check mark
next to the option "Show all do not show again messages".
Then, import your .mov file into the program. When it gets to the Timeline, do you get a pop up message - Videomerge or other?
Whatever the message, first place a check mark next to Do No Show Again and then click No.
Please let us know if that worked for you in this mini test run. If it did, I will tell you how to fix the issue in the original project.
    Thanks.

  • When I import .mov file to Idvd I lose audio in certain clips

The .mov file I can paly everything fine thru quicktime but on import to Idvd I lose audio on some of the clips. Why? all the boxes are checked on the I movie.

Where did your .mov file orginate from? If it came from a camcorder or a digital still camera that takes MPEG movies, then you need two pieces of software to separate the audio from the .mov file. First, download the Free MPEG Streamclip (do a Google search), and once you download that, there will be a link to download the $20 Apple MPEG Streamclip plug-in for Quicktime. MPEG Streamclip is brilliant in that it will convert your MPEG .mov file back to a DV file for proper input into iMovie for editing while the QT plug-in will separate the audio. In it's original form, the audio to your MPEG movie is imbedded into the video. QT will play it fine, but iMovie needs to have it separated.

  • Mov file plays ok in quicktime but video is black in final cut

I'm using Final Cut Pro X - just installed the newest version 10.1.3 and applied all updates.
I have a .mov file that plays fine with QuickTime 7 - but when I import the file into Final Cut pro  only the audio imports.  All video frames are black.
Not all .mov files do this - I have another that worked just fine.
The file was created 7 years ago - probably with Final Cut Studio 2 (I no longer have any older version of FinalCut).
Here is the info from the file that is causing problems:
    Screenshot of the import:
Screenshot of same file opened in QuickTime - with Inspector open:
Any suggestions on how to resolve this problem?
    Thanks -

    Thank you!
Looking at the properties in QT7 shows 2 Video tracks - I disabled the second and that corrected the problem - although it does show that it doesn't start until after the 1st Video track is over.  But, I can work with this - thank you.
