HDV 720p 24@23.98

Hi! We are triying to capture some material which its supposed to be at 24 fps in FCP 5.1.2 not passing through Lumiere but we only got material in 23.98. Does anybody knows why is that? It isn't soppoused to be like this....
If somebody has an answer....
Dual PowerPC G5   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Only the HVX200 I believe captures true 720/24 and that's in the native mode.
Otherwise it is 23.98.

  • Sequence settings for HDV 720p 24 fps

Okay, now that the French is gone I'm back on track, but still confused. I've captured my HDV 720p @ 24FPS footage using LumiereHD & it's separated & ready to go. What sequence settings/editing timebase should I use? I've noted people here saying DVCPro, but others said DVCPro is just problemic/not correct for HDV . . . and the Lumiere forum reccomends using the Apple Intermediate Codec, which I think people here said NOT to do . . . and there's a 720p24 option in Lumiere, but not in FCP . . . is it just like using 24p DV where you edit at regular 29.97? My head is turing into goo. Any sage advice, O sage ones? And I'm finishing on DVD, if that's usefull. Thank you!!!

Don't stay nervous for ever, you're missing out on a lot of good stuff.
    1. Repair Permissions.
    2. update to OS X 10.4.8

    3. update QuickTime to 7.1.3
    4. make sure you have Motion 2.1 already installed
    5. update all your pro apps with Software Update

    Still nervous?
I can't tell you what setting in FCP 5.1 to use, because I no longer have 5.1.
I would convert the HDV to DVC PRO HD 720p.
Editing in native HDV is a pain because of the frame structure.
You will end up with larger files with DVC PRO HD, but since it's all "I-frames" editing and compositing will be much, much faster.

  • HDV 720p 25 and 24p films

    Hi,
I want to make a movie filmed with a DSLR in 24p. In FCE, I can just choose HDV 720p 25... so FCE adds a 13th frame (that is a copy of the 12th frame) for each second when I put a sequence in the timeline.
My movie is a dance movie, so I would prefer to not have that additionnal frame.
Is it possible to prevent FCE from adding a 25th frame in the timeline? Even if the movie is speeded up (if it would be possible, I imagine I would slow down the sequence at 96% - so I find back 24 frames per second).
Or, do you have an other idea? Is there a way to easily delete the 13th frame of each second?
    Thanks in advance,
    Yann

It would help if you specify the exact make/model DSLR you have.
FCE supports 720p25/30. It does not directly support 24fps anything.
I'd suggest looking at MPEG Streamclip to convert your camcorder videos to 720p25 or 30 (QuickTime/Apple Intermediate Codec) before importing the video into FCE.

  • Importing HDV 720p footage with HDR-HC1 - no video, but timecode!

    Thanks for reading...
I'm trying to import my HDV 720p footage from the HDR-HC1.
I get timecode but no video. I can control the deck but still no video.
I used the easy set up of HDV- 720p30.
I'm even trying to use HDVxDV and I can control the deck but no video.
    On the camera:
My iLINK is off. Settings set to HDV. Firewire is plugged in to HDV port.
    I tried:
    Different computers.
    Different versions of FCP.
    Different firewire ports.
    Restarting.
Anyone have this camera? I've been working on this for 5 hours now...

You really need to let us know what the original camera and HDV format was so that others here looking for answers can benefit from your issue. It was not known that you even had a tape recorded from another source in your original post and that would have made a big difference to the answers you where looking for. *There are many different flavors of HDV and not all work together with the various manufactures hardware.* It is clear to me that you found this out the hard way, and if you didn't post your last thank you post we wouldn't have known either.
There are many setting within FC that can be confusing and this is the place to come and ask for help. It is also the place you will get real answers to solve your issues. Jerry and I gave you solid answers to your original post and as always it is nice to see the Green or Gold Stars of reward for helping. But what is troubling to see is the other poster (who you mark as Solved) didn't understand your issue (due to the lack of original details) and thinks you have the same problem he does, *and he didn't even offer up any answers.* Know the next guy searching for answers will see the Green Star and look there first for his answers and there won't be one.
There are so many variables to factor when giving advice and many times we ask for more details first. I wish I had asked.

  • Capture HDV 720p on ATA 100 HDD ?

    Hello,
I have to capture HDV 720p/25fps footage on a Windows machine and I was thinking to use an ATA 100 hard disk.
There should be no problem since the hard disk is 7200rpm (as required in the system requirements of Premiere CS3) but I would like to hear the opinion of somebody who already used such a hard disk (or similar) for capturing.
    Thank you all,
    Alessandro
PS: since I don't have a capture card I intend to use the firewire port of the motherboard.

That is how it is designed to work.

  • HDV 720p 25 codec

Can any one please tell me when are we going to have the codec for the HDV 720p 25, I mean the one used by JVC.
I've benn waiting for this codec for 3 months now and it seems that there isn't any. Does this mean that I cannot use my JVC camera on FCP?

You can use that footage, but it requires a bit more equipment.
Either use Lumiere HD or HDVxDV to convert it and lose timecode information, or get the JVC BR-HD50U deck, an HD capture card and external SATA Raid and capture the footage at DVCPRO HD resolution.
NO support for the JVC other than 720p30 natively.

  • HDV 720p to DV conversion jaggys

All the posts are about de-interlacing.
I had to deliver a short movie shot in 720p HDV, on a DV tape.
What is the best way to down convert HDV 720p to letterboxed DV without making it look awful?
    Thanks in advance.

    Jim,
Much will depend on your particular camera, and whether it has DV Lock.
What make/model camera do you have?
    Good luck,

  • Can't import HDV 720p from my Sony HDR HC1 camcorder to my FCP 5.0.1 help

I have footage that was shot on a contractors JVC HDV camera at 720p. I play it in my Sony HDR HC1 and i can view it and it plays awesome. It even recognizes its 720p. But i try to import it into Final Cut Pro on my IMac G5 or powerbook G4 17inch and it can play the camera but not capture footage. I have FCP version 5.0.1 How can i get this video into my editing software ive tried it on imovie as well and cant import video but i can control the camera. Please help.
Do i need to buy the updated FCP i noticed doing some research there is a FCP 5.1 now that i heard nothing about?
Thanks for the help in advance.

Get a hold of the JVC camera the footage was shot with. When FCP 5.1.2 is released (this month), you'll actually be able to capture the footage directly... problem is that the JVC recording is short GOP, and FCP currently only supports LONG GOP... You will need to upgrade to capture the footage directly, or buy this: http://www.lumierehd.com But in any event, you'll need the JVC camera to capture it's recordings, now or in the future.
JVC's iteration of HDV isn't the same as Sony's... that's the problem. PLUS FCP doesn't support any recordings of the JVC format except 1080i60 as of now. 5.1.2 will change that I believe. IBC was where this new update was announced I think, and you'll need to "cross grade" your FCP 5.0.x version to FCP 5.1. to get this update down the line... Yeah, I don't like the situation either, but there it is... Canon's HDV and JVC's HDV are very similar FWIW...

  • Using 4/3 clips in a 16/9 HDV 720p project

    Hi everyone.
I am trying to make and iMovie project which combines photos and movies.
Since my TV, MacBookPro aso. are widescreen, and more or less HD, I chose a 720p widescreen format (which has to be HDV for iMovie)
    Photos look great.
Themes look great, using photos or clips.
However, I have shot all my clips in SD (and very average quality) 640*480, which is 4/3 aspect ratio.(shot with a Sanyo Xacti C5, they are MPEG 4 part 2)
When I use the clips in iMovie without themes, I have black bars on the right and left.
That is expected, but I cannot zoom and crop the top and bottom of the clips.
And I have not been able to find an iMovie plug-in that does it, and works on an Intel Mac.
I do not even know if an iMovie plug-in would be the best solution, since it seems that effects can only be applied to 10 seconds of movie at most.
I thought about exporting the bunch of clips using compressor (I have Final Cut Studio, but am not a pro do not want to get into sàmething complex this time, and I like iMovie's themes), but I have over 200 clips for 2Go, a quite small and full internal hard drive and really like the convenience of keeping the clips in iPhoto.
Any suggestions ? Thanks in advance.

How it displays on a television set depends on the playback device not the application. How are you planning on putting this on a television set?
If you edit your material in an anamorphic sequence that will give you correct widescreen material with pillarboxed 4:3 material. Or you can edit in a 4:3 sequence which will give you letterboxed widescreen material and 4:3 material that fills the screen. Which you do depends on how you are going to show this on a TV. If you're going to make a DVD for instance, the DVD player will control how the media is displayed.

  • HDV 720p 24

I'm using a JVCpro HD workflow, and am struggling to find the best way to finish to a standard def DVD. The footage is captured into FCP via firewire using the HDV720p 24 easy set up. This yields gorgeous results playing out to HD TV. Anyway, I've used the 90minute two pass setting in compressor to output a standard def. compressed version for DVD studio pro, and it looks just "ok". I've also used the JVC deck to downconvert the footage via component analog into FCP through an AJA IO. This footage has better resolution results, but the color coming back in through the AJA is not even close to the original HD. Am I missing something? Is there a better way to make a standard definition DVD?
    Thanks, Matt

Your best option will be to export directly from your HD sequence to Compressor, and turn on the frame controls.
You can encode to an SD 24p m2v, which will keep your frame rate the same, but you'll want to activate the resize controls in Compressor.
Keep an eye on any generators or placed stills in your sequence when you do this - I have seen boris generators in particular get distorted when using this workflow to change the frame size.
If you do a test and find that your genrators are getting squeezed, you can export a self-contained movie and feed that to compressor. Turn on "all markers" when you export, and you should see these show up as compression markers in the compressor preview window.

  • Printing Frames from hdv 720p footage

I am doing a project which requires me to print out frames of footage I have shot onto a4 and a3 paper,
When I tried to print going into quictime + selecting print i got tiny images and i need to get full a4 and a3 sizes. Is their an easy way to just line up a frame and print it out in good quility and size?.
I tried exporting out of compressor as jpeg but that did not work either. Is this Fcs fault or a printer problem or more than likely user error! i was doing test prints on a deskjet canon ip1500.
I have never tried printing on a mac only recently converted. But i desperatly need to get started I have a 6 week deadline and about 15000 frames to print!
Any help would be greatly appriaceted!

I would do it this way:
In FCP find the frame to print and select it.
-You should now see it in the "Viewer:" window.
    Chose: File-Export-Using QuickTime Conversion...
    -A "Save" window will open.
In the "Save" window under "Format:" chose: Still Image
    - you can now click the "Options" button and chose your export settings (quality, format, etc.) then name your picture and save.
Open iPhoto, and drag your exported file in to iPhoto
    In iPhoto Chose File-Print
-Chose your paper type any you will be ready to go!
    Hope this helps!

  • Suggestion for capture(hdv 720p, 30)

    Dear All,
Just a "cheap" work around for the capture issue for JVC HD100; simply ask your cameraman roll for another 5"~10" before and after, then In FCP do not capture entire tape, believe me even u enable the break new clips function there are at least 4 seconds missing on each "break new Clips". Mark each of you desire clips, I know it's hard & extra time is needed, if u are able to mark the in out points on location, it will speed up....
    Cheers/Daryl

That is how it is designed to work.

  • Problem with 720P HDV

I am having a problem playing Quicktime movies HDV 720p 60 and 30 shot from a JVC 250 onto the DR-HD100 it only plays the first couple seconds then stalls. Also on the MAC in finder the quicktime movies that work correctly the icon is a video of the movie, but the 720P movies that aren’t playing correctly show a quicktime icon no video. Have you heard of this issue? I didn’t have this issue before but we recently upgraded Qucktime and FCP.
    I have a MAC OS 10.5.8
    Quicktime 7.6.6
    DR-HD100
    FCP 7.0.2

When I play a 720p HDV in quicktime it will play for a few seconds then the video will freeze but keep playing the audio.

  • Help HDV quicktime export is breaking

I am working with this footage in FINAL CUT PRO that was shot on HDV 720p format.
So i needed to lay off a small Quicktime for the music composer. I used a Custom Setting with the same settings as my sequence and exported. When i tested it on another computer, it was White and had been cut short. ( i am assuming it was a missing codec on that second computer that caused the White image)
My second attempt was to export the second 1/2 and used DVCProHD50 and it cut off again!!!
Please let me know what i can do to have it export entirely. The piece is 20 minutes.
    THANKS!!

I think i found a temporary solution, when I export as a Quicktime, i use a custom setting, and in their matched up my sequence settings to the Quicktime export settings.
I was able to export the HDV footage in 3 different pieces. i ran out of space when i left my whole 16 minute piece exporting overnight.
we will see tonight if i am able to export my entire timeline.
