HDV and I Movie HD

Anyone have any experience with High Def camcorders and importing HD video into iMovie HD and playing the the HD video back on an apple ACD or High Def TV? I know the HDV camcorders are very expensive but some are coming out that are for the general consumer and not the pro. Sony has a new compact HDV camcorder coming out in July for around $1800 and I'm just wondering what the experiences are out there with the previous consumer HDV's.....

I'm far away of jumping onto the HD bandwagon for some very simple reasons:
I don't own a few 10 for camcorder plus a "display apparatus", HD TV, plasma, tft, beamer, whatever (besides that we still have no standard for HD over here in Europe, h264 seems to be, 180i/760p still in progress, "HD ready" just claims a minimum of 800pix hahaha)..... AND:
there's no dvd-r solution for storing native HD material yet!
a standard video-dvd-r store just less then a quarter of resolution a HD camcorders stores..(besides color rooms, contrasts, bitrates etc) I haven't heard of any dvd standalone with a "digital video output"... so, even the best signal gets converted into anlogue, then re-digitized into digital (for usage on tft)>> THAT is what I call a lossy process.
the dvi-outs don't offer the HDMI specs. and the dvdplayer with dvi out, again, just playback PAL/NTSC, no 1080i/760p, whatever HD content...
no, I will wait, until blue-ray/HDvdvd will "win" the race; or, I win the lottery, getting 30"+G5 dual 3GHz... talk to you later

Can't Play HDV 1080p24 Quicktime Movie - PLEASE HELP!

I have a self-contained Quicktime file that plays fine using the Quicktime application on my computer that has Final Cut Pro installed on it. However, when I move that Quicktime to my computer that does not have Final Cut Pro, it says I don't have the proper codec. (It plays the audio fine, but the video is just a black screen.)
Can I download this specific codec on my non-FCP computer so that I can play this file?
Here are the specifics on the Quicktime in question:
Format:
HDV 1080p24, 1440 x 1080 (1888 x 1062), Millions
16-bit Integer (Little Endian), Stereo, 48.000 kHz
And, if it helps at all, we footage was created with a Canon XL-H1 camera, imported into FCP, edited, and exported as a Quicktime file using current settings. And, the non-FCP computer does have Quicktime Pro installed.

The DVCPRO HD, HDV and ProRes codecs only comes with FCP. If your computer does not have FCP installed, it cannot view these quicktime files. It doesn't matter if it is a Mac or PC, without FCP installed, you cannot view these files.
If you need to view ProRes material, you can download the ProRes decoder (mac and windows compatible) for ProRes

If you have MXF files from a P2 camera and you need to view the footage on a computer without FCP, you can download P2CMS from Panasonic:

Or you need the other party to compress the footage into a format your computer can play, like H.264.

Long HDV and XDCAM clips through Final Cut Server

Hi,
I know that I could post this in Compressor and/or Quicktime and/or Leopard/Tiger Forums, but as this problem it`s causing my Final Cut Server to not working well, I think it makes sense to post here.
To resume: HDV and XDCAM clips (all on original codec, only xdcam transferred to mov in xdcam transfer) with file size bigger than exactly 4GB always FAILS in "Final Cut Server"/"Compressor alone in ANY machine installed from scratch"/"Anything that uses Quicktime". Source and Destination being localy or networked. DV or DV50 can get bigger than that, I`ve never seen this error with DV`s codecs.
I had seen this problem before I bought final cut server. When I was transcoding our interviews for transcription. We always worked with BETA SP and captured in DV or DV50. We were starting to go to HDV and now to XDCAM and this error has started to appear.
I have a "proxy" made a year ago from a HDV and it`s original has 8GB. I tried this file again and as I expected didn`t work. In ANY computer with any installations with only the latest updates. I`ve remembered that I was using Tiger at this time, and Quicktime/Tiger/ProApps had a old version.
My two cents are that some update from Tiger/Leopard/QuickTime/ProApps made this happen.
So ANY HDV/XDCAM file bigger than 4GB it`s FAILING in ANY system. (Tiger or Leopard, With or without FCP and QT PRO, Installed from scratch and updated every thing).
Some tests I`ve made:
-Compressor works with this two codecs to lower res in TIGER and with QuickTime Version 7.4.0 and LOWER. (had to be tested, but I think that was my version of QT when I managed to make the proxy of this two codecs).
-Compressor doesn`t work on any system with QT above 7.4.0.
-CATDV (http://www.squarebox.co.uk/) version 6 can make proxy versions of this two codecs in TIGER ONLY! They already know of this problem and CATDV 7 works on both.
-Compressing in compressor with H.264 (same codec as the FCSvr proxy) BUT without changing the resolution, size and etc. Works OK in both Tiger and Leopard.
-Exporting through QT works in ANY system BUT I loose TC, so it`s not an option (and I can`t input this workflow in FCSvr without using compressor).
-Exporting from FCP as QuickTime Movie with H.264 doesn`t work on Both (Tiger and Leopard).
-Exporting fro FCP as QuickTime Conversion with H.264 works but as exporting from QT I loose TC and can`t input this into FCSvr workflow.
Error message are always: "QuickTime error = -50" or "QuickTime error: corrupted data" (and of course it`s not corrupted because it`s used - even in FCP to edit - and opened viewed, catdv can do proxy and everything).
I`m surprised not to see anyone freaking out about this issue... I don`t think that It`s only me.

It doesn`t matter what version of Leopard I`m using (right know I`m using Leopard Server 10.5.6, but this issue has happened even with 10.4 if QT is updated and all updates of 10.5 up, as I`
ve mentioned above).
What file size are those clips that are longer than 10min?
I really don`t get, how it`s possible that just the two of us has HDV and XDCAM files with file size longer than usual? Maybe people that do interviews don`t like to record the entire interview and when capturing those clips would be under this file size limit? Or maybe we are the only ones in the whole world that transcode longer HDV and XDCAM clips (it`s funny that it doesn`t even need to be FCSrv, with only ONE machine and compressor this issue happens all the time).
I`m convinced that I have to install a Tiger version in a virtual machine with compressor and doesn`t update anything to test this further on. But I`m certain that with TIGER and CATDV this works ok! And I think that CATDV uses QT engine to do this transcodes.
This is too much of a mystery to me. Maybe it`s time to spend 24+ hours with apple in a international call and probably not getting anywhere.
I`m only posting this here in FCSrv forum because this issue it`s must worse when you have hundreds of clips with this issue and if you bought the package it doen`t matter if it`s a problem with QT+OSX or whatever, apple has to solve it for FCSrv use.

HDV and AIC has changes iMovie 10 to iMovie 11

This is baffling me .. Maybe its happened after I upgraded to iMovie 11. Maybe not - Im hoping someone at Apple is reading this ..
Firstly we use a Sony Z1E camera - Normally we use FCP to get in the digital files .. What we do is as follows
1. Capture all to the memory card in the camera
2. Use clipwrap to pull the files into the harddrive - Just re-wrap not change anything faster than log and transfer
We end up with Apple HDV files - They are seen fine in FCP ad also were in iMovie .. I shall explain
So here is what is happening
Over the last week - I have brought in some of the HDV files into iMovie - Whats interesting is that they are seen in iMovie as HDV files (Not Apple Intermediate Codec) - Great - They are at the best quality possible.
However now whats happening is when I move files into iMovie they are seen as AIC files - Somehow iMovie 11 is transcoding them from HDV to AIC -- This seems to have happened when I upgraded to iMovie 11 (I did that last week) - it seems to be happening after the upgrade
Anyone got any ideas on how to keep them as HDV -- (AIC just pops down the quality) as we have FCP on our machines we can then output in HDV again from iMovie -- Its just a really quick way of us editing .
Suggestions welcome -- Maybe there is a setting that Im missing - But I dont see how i got HDV files in before to iMovie and they were left as HDV but now they are transcoded. Perhaps I should reinstall the FCP onto the machine again - So that it goes on after the iMovie upgrade.
I would really like to maintain HDV as the codec in the files and not transcode them - It really pulls down the quality which is especially noticable as noise on dark colours in lower light .

I have noticed the same thing and here is how you "fix the problem"
1. Start a new event and import 1 HDV file and that will be converted to AIC
Let´s call the event TEST. When that is done close iMovie
2 Go to where you have your iMovie events folder and open the folder and in there you will find your TEST event, open that also and there you will see your imported HDV/AIC file.
Delete the file and leave everything else in there as it is.
3 Move your HDV files that you want in the event (Copy and paste) in to the same folder and then close the folder
4 Start iMovie and when it starts it will say something like that it is creating thumbnails or whatever.
The point is that now you event will be native HDV and not converted to AIC

Shoot HDV and Capture as DV ?

I have been looking at the Canon HV20 which is able to shoot both HDV and DV.
I assume that one could shoot HDV and capture it as DV in FCE and FCP. If this is the case, what Easy Setup would be used in both apps ?
Also, as HDV deals with frames differently, resulting in poorer movement rendition than DV, would this mean that the captured DV's motion would not look as good as usual ?
If that was true, it might be better shooting in DV initially ?
Any comments or thoughts would be welcome.

I have just remembered that 4 members of my video club recently shot a theatrical production.
They used 4 "manned" cameras shooting SD and had a "locked" unmanned HDV camera shooting the whole of the stage.
The theory behind it was that the locked camera footage could be used on occasions when the manned cameras did not capture ideal shots of the actors etc.
The fact that it was HD meant that they could zoom into the appropriate section of the stage, during editing, and still end up with quality roughly equal to SD.
Trying that with an SD camera would have resulted in a noticeable degradation of the image.
From what I could tell from the DVD they projected, it seemed to work OK.

GR with Excise Capuring and Posting ( Movements 103 and 105 )

our requirement: while doing GR with Movement type 103 will capture the Excise . While releasing Blocked stock to unrestricted will post the excise . please advise me how to configure .

Hi Sakhi,
When you post 103 the system takes it as GR blocked stock,not a valuated stock in plant.
But you can capture excise invoice at the time of 105 --i.e Release blocked stock and Post the same in J1IEX transaction.

Check stock availability in GR block stock if same is 110 then only u can pass trnx. with 110 qty and 105 movement .if stock is less than 110 system will give stock deflict error which is currently ur getting

These apps cannot be accepted by your Apple ID.
These apps were already assigned to another Apple ID, and they will be available in that Apple ID's Purchases list. If you don't have access to that Apple ID and want to receive future updates, you will need to purchase the applications.

You need to either delete and buy them, or get whoever holds that Apple ID to tell Apple to release them. On a Mac, deleting the applications won't affect their data, but that should be backed up anyway.

I have these movies downloaded on the old computer from digital hd redeemed codes: Fantastic Mr. Fox, Super 98, Thor, Inception, The Hunger Games, and Star Trek Into Darkness. I bought Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl on itunes with money, and that one isn't showing up either. When I search it on itunes to see if I can just re-download it, that isn't an option. I would have to buy it again. Home Sharing isn't what I want because the old computer will not be here forever and it is not connected to wifi.
It's kind of a lot of movies, and I want them on the new computer.

Try these in order testing your system after each to see if it's back to normal:
1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
    b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
     Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
     COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and
     after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears.
     Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
     Reinstall the 10.9.2 update: OS X Mavericks 10.9.2 Update (Combo).
4. Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
Reinstall the 10.9.2 update: OS X Mavericks 10.9.2 Update (Combo).

But I must point out that leaving the iPhoto Library on the external is worth considering. Your internal drive would be better off without having to carry the photos.
When you booted with the external connected and you were asked for the library, did you try navigating to the Library in on the external drive?
