HDV coming out squished after H.264

When I run a HDV timeline through H.264 the result comes out squished.
The compressor inspector tells me:
Settings based off the source resolution
Format QT
WIdth: 100% of source
Height 100& of source
selected 1440 x 1080
pixel aspect ratio; HDV1080i (16:9)
So, I can't figure out what I am doing wrong. The inspector on the file that comes out of compressor says 1440x 1080 (1920 x 1080). The parentheses are not mine, that is what it shows in the inspector?
Any help would be much appreciated as always.
Thanks
m

Or, resize the clip in Compressor with the number of pixels to display the aspect ratio correctly when displayed using square pixels.
For 1080 it is 1920x1080
For 720 it is 1280x720
Whether it is best to leave it as anamorphic or resize to square pixels really depends on the display destination of the clip.
x
p.s. If the material is only for display on a computers - you can use any pixel dimensions as long as their ratio is 16:9

  • Pictures Coming out darker after I turn them into jpegs/tiff.

    Hey everyone,
I've been having a problem with my photoshop for quiet a while.  When I edit my photos in PS, everything is fine, they look great and all but when I save them as JPEGS or tiff they come out darker. I dont understand what the problem is. I've been trying to figure out if its my color settings. But iam not sure. I even tried downloading some calibrators from online but I didnt know how to use them. I thought it installing the latest version of PS would make a difference but nothing works at the moment. Its really giving me a hard time and a lot of my clients have complained about the photos being dark.
Has anyone else came across this problem? I would really appreciate the help. Thank You.

A chart such as this one can help you check to see whether your monitor gamma is set close to the 2.2 that's typical for PC displays.
View it at full size by clicking on it.
Your gamma is set right when the vertical gray bars look like smooth gradients, with no brightness nor color shifts from side to side.

  • Will ios 7 be coming out today after the event or sept. 18?

    Please help

The media event is over and Apple said iOS will be released to the public on 18 September 2013

  • Pictures are coming out blurry after ios5 dnld. Anyone please helpppp!!!

When I take a pic it shows up blurry in my camera roll. And when I try to delete I get a saving image icon that shows forever and never seems to go away. Had these problems since updating to ios 5. Someone, anyone please help. I use my camera all day everyday and this is just crap!!

I found the following post in another forum and tried it this morning and it worked great.  My problem was when I took a picture and viewed in the camera roll it was either heavily pixated or it had a white screen with a box in the middle of it.  It would become clear if I hit edit but if I hit auto enhance it would become a black screen.  Anytime I tried to choose an option, i.e. delete, or email the picture, it would have a saving photo message and stall.  I could at times get it to email the picture to my wife who has same specs as myself, (iPhone 4 iOS 5) and hers was fine.  But I had not synced hers recently, and I had mine.  Only thing that was not the exact same, settings were.
    http://www.iphoneincanada.ca/how-to/how-to-fix-iphone-camera-roll-crash-and-phot os-turned-to-other-in-itunes/
The only thing that I would add is when I first did this, when it said to reset I did a Lock/Home reset.  When I opened photos they were the same and when I opened iExplorer the files were still there.  So I deleted them again and did a soft reset and when my phone came back up I opened my Camera Roll and in about 5 seconds all my photo's were there and you could view them like normal.  Very easy and you do not have to restore your phone!!!  Highly recommended to try first.

  • Windows 8.1 not connecting to DirectAccess after coming out of hibernation

Have a strange issue with Windows 8.1 and DirectAccess on Server 2012. Initially after performing a clean install of Windows 8.1 my directaccess connection was working fine, even after coming out of hibernation, it would reconnect to directaccess with no
issues. Yesterday after applying Windows updates and rebooting my Windows 8.1 would connect to DirectAccess fine. If I hibernate and come out of hibernation my DirectAccess status is stuck on Connecting and only connects if I reboot.
I performed a system restore as of last week and my DirectAccess connection is back to working as expected. So it seems a particular windows update is causing this issue. Anyone knows which one in particular?

Hi There - nothing specific that i know of but have all the Hotfixes been applied to both server and 8.1 clients (which may fix the issue)

  • T440s new wifi 17.12 driver fails after coming out of hibernate

Coming out of hibernate no wireless networks are available. A reboot resolves the issue.
Plugged in or on battery - same issue.. Bluetooth enabled or not - same issue. Tested twice to make sure I wasn't crazy. I hibernated and came out at least 8 times a day on old driver. Same with sleep.
Downloaded this driver here for AC7260 which connects to an Asus RT-AC66U. This new driver (mine is for 8.1) is for a lot of machines and a lot of wifi cards.

    Skoop:
Interesting.  Fortunately for my T440s, this was resolved a couple releases ago.  Or maybe the last one. This particular update broke it therefore in the long run, Lenovo will have to take a look at this, at least for some of us. To note the bluetooth driver was not updated with this package. Only the Wireless.
I myself have had no issues with the 7260 on a couple different machines, including an HP and this Lenovo.  Although, I am on Windows 8.1 with the latest updates and you are on Windows 7.  Perhaps prolonging the jump to 8 may be bad to your health. haha.  Why are you on Windows 7?  Don't like Windows 8?  I remember when Windows 98 came, I refused to go to it.  The same with XP lol (I skipped the umentionable) I had a really hard time letting go of that one.  skipping another unmentionable) For awhile I didn't let go of 7, however by Windows 8.1 update 1 (or whatever they call it) I was sold.  Things are handled more efficiently.  Perhaps Windows 7 only came with your machine, however if you have Windows 8 recovery discs for your machine, I suggest you use them or buy a license (especially if the trackpad matches the T440s hahahaha trust me like night and day, but still bad) Windows 8 will soon be an unmentionable because of the charms bar, lack of start menu etc with the upcoming release of 9 beta. (screenshots recently or possibly leaked) At least getting to 8 may solve some problems until 9 comes.
I attempted a manual install of the wireless drivers alone myself to skip the software install.. This was a trick we used to use in support back in the Windows 95 days.  ESPECIALLY for modem drivers. hahaha Then we had to change IRQ's and so on, search for phantom drivers blah blah Anyway I am reliving the old days. There was a Win8 and Win8b directory for this particular driver package.  Neither worked for manual install.  Which is VERY odd.  I checked out most directories and could not find anything applicable...but i didn't put too much time into it so perhaps it is there lurking in one of the folders. I had a close look at the .inf's within 8 and 8b as well, but only long enough to no waste the day.
Looks like you being on different hardware (perhaps) and on Windows 7, you have been experiencing this problem for much longer than us T440s folks on Win 8.1.  I myself resolved the issue a long time ago by not allowing it to turn off or "save power".  At least i think that is what I did. Make the jump to 8 and simply install that classic start menu software.  It at least gives you a normal start menu and more and then you can disable any other Windows 8 stuff you don't like.
By the way, as far back as I can remember Lenovo's (previously IBM) extra wireless mgmt software has been breaking machines.  Like forever. I really cannot believe that this has not been done away with yet. Like, I REALLY can't believe it. I saw that yellow bulb and my eyes popped out of my head and I threw out a big chuckle.  I mean at least they could have fixed the fact that perhaps after install, it prompts you as to whether or not you would like to use the "Windows tool, or the Lenovo tool" haha nope.  Such an easy thing to code. However as I type this, I realize exactly the types of machines we have here....they are the same as they were a decade ago. These machines should be marketed to tech geeks who like to tinker and fix things. No offense to Lenovo...however a lot of software, bios updates the machines themselves, (buggy down to lights not staying on on the keyboard as you boot up) and even their support website....(I mean seriously when you return to the main driver page you really have to sort by date, again?  Like again? hahaha The layout is terrible,,and pricing errors.  How can I explain this.  I know - ueverything is unnecessarily complex. Even the bios looks yesteryear. (other than Uefi portions I'm sure although I have not trod there) I always come back though, probably because I like to tinker
I'm rambling. Bottom line I may be wrong however maybe a jump to Windows 8 may help some others on other platforms.  Who knows.  In the meantime, it seems at least two of us on two different hardware platforms had things busted up by this release.
    Cheers

  • No USB Functionality After Coming Out of Standby Mode - Windows XP SP2

I currently use my MacBook with Boot Camp to run Windows XP SP2 (as the default boot OS). I have enabled standby so that I can save battery power. However, whenever I come out of standby, it seems as if the USB ports no longer work. Sometimes I'll have a USB mouse plugged in and it will no longer work after coming out of standby (in the past, it would take like 10 minutes to work, but now it seems to not work at all). I have tried unplugging it and plugging it into a different USB port with no success. I have even tried another USB device (a digital photo frame product) and it doesn't detect either (although it seems to provide power via the USB port because the digital photo frame shows the "connecting..." screen). Any help regarding this is greatly appreciated, since its so frustrating to have to reboot to gain access to my USB ports. Thanks!

Same with BootCamp v2.1 and in XP SP3. More Apple software bugs it seems (seem to be rampant across all their gadgets - e.g. iPod Touch 2G v2.1.1 WiFi WPA/WPA2 failures, etc.).
Frustrated, thinking about third party Bluetooth keyboard mouse (e.g. Logitech DiNovo Edge works great on my Mac mini with it's own mini USB bluetooth receiver, just tap a key to resume from standby like you're supposed to be able to!) -- or a traditional Logitech wireless.

  • Apple app windows disappear after coming out of sleep

In Yosemite, after coming out of sleep, some Apple apps are still active but the windows have disappeared. I have noticed this with the Activity Monitor and with the Calculator. I played around with Hide/Show Windows, etc and was finally able to make the Activity Monitor window show up. I was unable to get the window to show up in the Calculator. Killing and restarting the app resolved the issue.
I have not had any problems with non-Apple apps, and Finder and Safari seem to be OK.

Further correction: Even when initially launched, after a restart Activity Monitor and Settings will both launch with no windows. There is a window name shown when right clicking on the icon in the Dock and in the application menu, but clicking on the window does not bring it up for display. With no Activity Monitor, you have to use command line, ps command and kill to clear the processes, following which they can be relaunched with all windows displayed.

  • Locked out of machine after coming out of sleep mode (passwd not accepted)

info macbook (intel) 10.5.1 (was upgraded from Tiger)
    single user setup
after waking up machine or coming out of sleep mode (i.e lifting lid) occasionally cannot login at all, password is refused. Multiple failed attempts. Its not a problem of caps lock on.
Only solution is to force power down of machine and then OS comes back up, HOWEVER, without demanding a password after power up (hardly very secure), afterwards it may work OK for a few days (with a number of sleep cycles) before same login problem happens again.
    Is this a known problem?

Please do both of the following:
    1) Turn the computer off. Press and hold shift. Turn the computer on. Continue to hold shift until you see the spinning gear below the Apple logo. Once it is started up, log in. Does it do the same thing here? If it works, please know this is not a fix, just an isolation step.
    2) Test this in another user account on the computer. If you don't have one, create one in: Apple menu> System Preferences> Accounts. Click the lock in the lower left corner if it is locked and enter your password. Click the + just above the lock and type in "test" for all the fields it asks for. If you are on 10.4 or earlier, check off "Allow user to administer this computer". If you are on Leopard, make the account type an Administrator. Click "Create account". Click the Apple menu and select the last item ("Log Out" Account name). Log in as the test account and test. Note: You will have to set it to ask you for a password when waking from sleep (Apple> System Prefernces> Security> Require password to wake this computer from sleep or screen saver)
Let me know the result of those tests. Please make sure to try both, as they will allow me to see what may be causing the issue.

  • Windows 7 Sleep issues--freezes after coming out of sleep

Running Windows 7 rig with MSI MS-7511 Mobo. Back in October, I purchased a refurb Microsoft Wireless 6000 keyboard and installed it. I THINK this is what started my problems. Since then, computer will go into sleep mode as usual, but at some point after coming out of sleep (maybe a few seconds, maybe an hour) it will totally freeze. The only way to get the system back up is to unplug it and re-start.
I have since uninstalled the keyboard, and tried to restore, but still having the problem. Pretty sure it's a USB problem, but I have tried re-installing drivers (mcp732) and even the MB BIOS. If I run the system without my wireless mouse and with no USB devices, it works fine. I have also tried switching USB devices to different ports, to no avail.
It's not just the mouse that causes the issues, it seems to be any connected USB device.
Also--and I think this is weird-I installed a PCI USB card in one of the slots and transferred my mouse to that and the same thing still happens. Wouldn't that be a totally different set of drivers than the ones that drive the main MB USB devices?
Don't know what to try next . . . want to avoid having to do a Windows re-install if possible.
Below are the errors I get when I run powercfg -ENERGY.
Any ideas? Would like to avoid giving away another two days of my life re-installing my software.

I don't think I've had a setup yet where sleepmode wasn't causing issues, I shut it off.
Sleep has only become an issue with Windows 7, where MS got so aggressive about it, and caused so many problems for so many people, that many have done as you and turned it off! Shame on you Microsoft! Instead of saving energy your customers are leaving their PCs on!
I suspect the OP's problem is with (of all things) the MS wireless mouse/kb driver(s). At first my setup wouldn't work at all, then I dl'ed the newest Intellimouse drivers/software and it worked "better", but I have never been able to get Sleep to work reliably. I finally found that Hibernate works reliably, so that is all I do now. When the PC is done working, it saves to HDD and shuts off. Resuming from this state takes longer than resuming from Sleep, but at least it Works Every Time.

  • The first time I start Firefox it is very slow coming up but after it is up and I want another window it fast again. What do I need to do to clean out whatever is clogging it up.

    Question
The first time I start Firefox it is very slow coming up but after it is up and I want another window it fast again. What do I need to do to clean out whatever is clogging it up. edit

    * The first time you start up any application after turning on your computer is called a cold start, which is why Firefox takes a while to load right away. (I've noticed that future versions of Firefox start up faster on a cold start then Firefox 5.0.1.) Also, a lower amount of RAM could be slowing its start-up down since Firefox is kind of memory hungry.
    * As for the second part of your question, press ctrl,Alt, and the delete keys on your keyboard. The Windows Task Manager should start. Go to the processes tab and look for 'firefox.exe'. Right click on the firefox.exe and click 'End Process'. Hit Yes and wait for a minute.
    * Then opening Firefox again.
    Hopefully this helped somewhat!

  • Slight crackle coming out of the speakers after waking up from sleep?

anyone else had this happen to them? I just hear a short, quiet crackling noise coming out of my speakers after waking up. My MBP 17 is great otherwise. Its not really even a big deal, just wondering. Thanks

I've been encountering this problem recently with my left speaker when waking my laptop from sleep. It doesn't happen all the time though - almost seems like it happens when it's hot and humid out, like today, even though my A/C is on. I've seen one or two more threads about this topic but with no real help other than "I wouldn't worry about it". Does anyone else have any ideas? It's not a life-or-death ordeal, but still, I know the speaker shouldn't make this noise.

  • Cannot Connect to AE After Coming out of Sleep Mode

This happens on both my iMac and Powerbook. I don't normally use wireless on the iMac but I discovered that both computers are having the same issue when troubleshooting. When coming out of Sleep mode, the Airport device cannot connect to the Airport Express. The only thing that can consistently connect is my Blackberry.
I know it's not a reception problem as when I am able to connect, the signal is strong and speeds are very good.
Some things I have tried to fix the problem have worked but not consistently as the problem keeps happening:
-Turn Airport off and back on (On the computer)
-Unplug and plug back in the AE
    -Turn off MAC Address Filtering
    -Factory reset the Airport Express
-Select the Join Other Network option and re-enter my wpa2 credentials
    -Uncheck Closed Network option
What could be the problem? I'm really thinking there is a software bug somewhere. I have also noticed if I make any changes in the Airport Utility the AE never recovers as it stays a solid amber. I have to power cycle the device.
It's using software version 6.3 and all my OS X updates are the latest. This is very frustrating. Any help appreciated.

I have tried both remedies mentioned above. I double-checked and my network is listed in the wireless advanced settings. It's the only network in my list. Airport is at the top in my Network Preferences as well.
I was hoping the update to 10.5.8 would help but the problem keeps occurring. One thing I have tried is leaving the "Closed Network Option" unchecked for my AE. Now, I am discovering when exiting sleep mode, I see my network but when it tries to connect, I receive the error "Connection Timeout". This happens on both computers.
The only thing that works the most consistently is unplugging the AE and plugging back in. Once I'm connected, it works great.
I tried using iStumbler to see if there were any other networks using the same channel but that looks okay.
I guess I can try using a different security setting other than WPA2, but then that is not really a solution. I'm about ready to just try some other newer wireless solution. It used to work flawlessly. I think until 10.5.4, I had no issues.

  • Airport doesn't locate my network after coming out of sleep mode

Hi, seems that my imac has a hard time connecting with my network when coming out of sleep mode. Even when I choose the proper network, it still asks for my password (even thought it's populated in teh password field) and when I choose OK, it still times out quite often. Eventually if I turn it off and on or restart comp, it comes up OK.
I'm a little afraid to repair permissions as I have a HP C7280 all in one that the general school of thought is don't repair permissions as Leopard thinks they need repair, but in fact are OK and when "repaired" stop the machine from working properly. It took me a while to get it going in the first place, I dont want to break it again! Any ideas?? Thanks, Dan

Apple Store currently thinks it's a hardware problem
