HDV DVD sound problem

I'm shooting HDV 1920X1080 16:9 footage and editing with Final Cut Express. Everything looks and sounds fine when I edit but as soon as I create a DVD with iDVD the audio sounds overmodulated.
What's going on here? And why does everybody say you can't create HD discs, iDVD help says that I can.

Just in case anyone sees this thread and has a similar problem, I solved it. My Final Cut was automatically putting the PAN level to -1 on every audio clip. Since I'm using mono, not stereo, I switched the level to 0 on the clips. Now everything is fine.

  • IMovie sound problem - a solution discovery

After downloading a video in iMovie and completing all the processes steps that I wanted to include, I tried to burn this project in iDVD. A problem arose with the sound when I played the iDVD preview. The sound was grabbled and distorted. I contacted AppleCare and got several possible solutions, but none of these solve my sound problem. I even tried to send it back to my camcorder and use my older G4 computer to make a DVD. However, the program could not be transferred to my camcorder either.
Now a strange discovery was found. On the sound line in iMovie (where I had recorded my voice program) was a small yellow dot. Yes, very small yellow dot. I wondered why this was there and clicked on it. The dot move up to the top bar where my video clips were stored. I thought maybe this had changed things, so I rendered the program to iDVD again and previewed it. The sound problem was gone. I successfully burn the program to DVD and found it was okay to view. I have shared this discovery with AppleCare and was asked to share this information in this discussion forum. I hope that others may benefit from solving a similar problem. I still don't know how the tiny yellow dot got on my sound line. If somebody knows, it could be interesting and helpful to avoid this problematic yellow dot. Good luck - Seapark36

    Welcome to iMovie Discussions!
Thanks for mentioning this business of the "..very small yellow dot".
This sounds like a 'Bookmark'. Bookmarks can be placed on the Timeline, where your video plays, along the bottom of the computer's iMovie display, by purposely - or accidentally! - pressing the Apple key and 'B'. Bookmarks let you jump instantly back and forth through your movie (..to the next Bookmark..) by jumping forwards to the next one with Apple and ']', or backwards to the previous one with Apple (..also known as the 'Command' key..) and left-square-bracket '['.
They have, though, been known to interfere with proper playback when exporting (..'Sharing'..) to tape or to iDVD, so Karl's advice has been to delete all bookmarks when the editing's finished and just before 'Sharing'. All bookmarks can be instantly deleted by going to Markers on the top line menu and clicking Delete all Bookmarks.... (An individual bookmark can be deleted, once you've jumped to it, by pressing AltAppleB.)
The little diamond-shaped dots look almost identical to Chapter Marker diamond dots, which you can create by clicking the 'iDVD' tab at the lower-right beneath the right-hand 'pane' of the iMovie window and then clicking 'Add Chapter'. That creates a chapter marker to separate a particular section of your movie when it plays back from a DVD you've burned.
The Bookmarks and Chapter Markers seem (..to me!..) to have a very slightly different colour - maybe one's green and one's yellow: I don't know; I'm red-green colour blind, so I can't tell yellow from green, or green from red!
So perhaps you accidentally created a bookmark by unintentionally tapping the Apple key and then the letter 'B'. Removing it, and all other bookmarks, is generally acknowledged to smooth the process of exporting (..'Sharing'..) a movie project.
Thanks for posting your observation, and reminding us about how important it is to delete bookmarks before exporting!

  • Installing iTunes distorts CD and DVD sound

Please help! I installed iTunes on my new laptop and now any CD played through iTunes as well as ALL my DVDs sound scratchy or choppy. I restored my system to the day before I installed iTunes and the problem is gone. How can I install iTunes to prevent this sound distortion from occuring again? THANK YOU!
    Oaxaca Josh

some preliminary questions before proceeding, Rachel.
have the optical drives vanished altogether from "My Computer"? if so, can you check your Device manager for us? right-click "My Computer", select "Manage" and click "Device Manager".
are there warning/alert messages showing up in Device Manager next to your optical drives? if so, are they citing code 41?

  • Intermittent sound problems on MacBook Pro.

I have for the last few months had this intemittent sound problem. The speaker greys out and the sound 'jumps' between speaker and internal sound. The little red light inside the headphone port comes on. This could last for a few minutes and then everything is fine again. It happens when I play DVD's as well. The sound goes and the DVD practically stops playing or the picture is slowed down and jerky. Usually after ejecting the DVD and inserting it again it sorts the problem out. It used to not happen very often but for the last two days it has happened at least 5 times. It happened during a presentation once and I need this to work. Any advice please.  I am worried it could be a hardware issue.

I can watch a trailer in Windows Media and its perfect...try QT Version and the sound is terrible...I have tried many things but could sure use more help...I want to be able to get things set up before I get the IPOD...your help is appreciated...Podcasts I download are garbled (the video ones). I have no problem with MP3's...they sound fine...its the quicktime video...I have also used DVD Decryptor and Videora IPOD converter to convert movies etc...and picture is great but sound is hosed...please help...it won't go without thanks...

  • Video sound problem

My music on iTunes plays perfectly but I have bought 2 videos from the music store and downloaded a few podcasts and the sound stutters really badly as if two different soundcards were trying to play the audio at the same time -needless to say I only have one soundcard installed. If I open QuickTime and play the videos in there directly they sound fine so the problem must be with iTunes itself. I am using iTunes 6 and the latest version of QT. I have tried all of the QT settings trouble-shooting suggestions on the support pages. I have got the most recent driver for my soundcard, I have the most recent version of DirectX and I have even tried changing my soundcard but the problem remains the same. Has anyone any idea what the problem is?

I am a new owner of iPod video and have used Videora. Tried several times and it is successful. For sound problems, I suggest you to look at 2 dimensions as well.
    1. On the "setup" menu (right below "Convert"), there is a sound volumn for you to adjust. I found that I have to adjust it to at least 225% to make it audible thru my headphones.
    2. For some DVD, there are multiple sound tracks of different languages, DVD Decruptor allows you to choose the subtitles and the language. Only click those that you want.
    Good luck!

  • Superdrive replaced, DVD-DL problem still exists (sorta)

I have a Mac Pro 2 x 2.66 ghz Intel Xeon - the machine shipped with a SONY superdrive up top, and I installed a Pioneer in the bottom slot.
The SONY drive was able to burn dual layer DVDs - I am using Memorex DVD+DL disks. The SONY drive was NOT able to read the DVD dual layer disks that I burned.
The disks are readable in all other machines in my house (All Macs)
I called Apple, they said this is a known issue, and I needed to swap out my superdrive. I just picked it up from the Apple store and it now has an OPTIARC AD 7170A drive, which I believe is a SONY as well.
I just tried burning a dual layer DVD with the newly replaced drive, and it worked fine the first time, however the verification failed. The 2nd dual layer DVD I tried to burn just plain failed - MEDIUM ERROR.
The drive CAN burn dual layer DVDs, but it CANNOT read them. The drive can read and burn DVDs no problem.
Why on earth would the brand new drive fail to read the dual layer DVDs, but everything else reads just fine???

I had very similar problems with the Sony OPTIARC drive in my 2007 Mac Pro (Intel Xeon, 10.4.11).
I found others having the same problems here with the OPTIARC and some said it was 2nd-rate quality. Also - I never liked the noise it made while burning, sounded "cheap."
I got the Samsung Internal DVD/CD 'Super-MultiDrive' DVD DL/CD w/LightScribe. From macsales.com ($29.95 USD). This unit requires you install Patch Burn (software) but runs fine, no more "coasters" from any format DVD, including DVD-R DL (but never tried DVD+R DL). After testing, bought a 2nd one for the lower bay.
The Samsung unit comes with a plastic front (bezel) which must be removed to fit properly. This is easy & quick: illustrated instructions on the macsales.com website.
I wanted the Lightscribe labeling system: no fuss & bother with design / printing labels. Burn DVD, flip it over, launch Lightscribe, enter text in"Edit mode" - click "Print" and 3-4 minutes later your DVD is labeled.
I do wish I could find a way to get both drives working at once (i.e., labeling two DVDs at once, burning two at once). Otherwise: completely satisfied.

  • Imac G5 isight sound problems.It's muted!!!

After repairing the permissions, verified disk and repaired disk with the Leopard DVD everything worked ok, but after a few days the same think happened again and again and again... Please help me because it's VEEEERYYYY annoying to waste my time with these thinks that were suppose to work in the first place.
    Thank you in advance.

please tell me what is problem in My Laptop. i have window 7 ultimate operating system.
    Please help me sir

What sound problem - no sound on anything, no sound on some apps ?
Have you got notifications muted ? Only notifications (including games) get muted, so the iPod and Videos apps, and headphones, still get sound.
Depending on what you've got Settings > General > Use Side Switch To set to (mute or rotation lock), then you can mute notifications by the switch on the right hand side of the iPad, or via the taskbar : double-click the home button; slide from the left; and it's the icon far left; press home again to exit the taskbar. The function that isn't on the side switch is set via the taskbar instead : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4085
And for future info typing in all capitals is considered to be SHOUTING

  • Desperately need some help!! iTunes/Quicktime/iChat/Sound problems....

So, yesterday, I was online, on google video, and when I pressed play on the video, there was no sound, but the video worked...the same was true on every video site i checked. My computer volume was at max, and I even tested the speakers to make sure they were on, and they indeed were.
I thought that was odd...but then the problems really started.....
After that, I clicked on my iChat icon. It bounced once, and did not open. The same thing happened when I clicked on iTunes. 1 bounce, and then nothing. I checked to make sure all of my iTunes mp3 files were on my computer....they indeed are all still here, bit nothing I can do opens iTunes. I've run disc utilities, and disc repair...according to that, everything is peachy-keen on my computer.....but iChat and iTunes STILL will not open, and there is still no sound on anything.
Now, i'm leaning towards the archive and install option....or even just backing up what I want to save, wiping the drive, and starting from scratch.....but i'd really like to not have that happen.
(and, as a side question, if all I want to save are images, several documents, and many mp3 files, would everything be okay if I just backed them up on an external drive, and then loaded them back on to my computer after reinstalling OS X?)
Sorry about the length of this, but I am at my wit's end, and I have no idea what to do.

by third-party, do you mean things I installed that are not manufactured by mac? If that is the case, I have microsoft office, Smart Music, Flip4mac, and Senuti.
I got rid of Flip4Mac to see if that affected my sound problems, but it did not. So, as of now, my problem remains the same...

Did you download and install the Windows Support software? First step in Bootcamp Assistant is to download the support software. Then did you install the support software from within Windows?

  • Sound problems on ProBook 6550b, running on Win 7 Pro x32bit..

I have been getting very similar sound problems on my notebook as posted by most: internal speakers work on original Audio HD drivers, but there is no sound when I connect external speakers or headphones. I up-graded the audio drivers to IDT HD Audio and I get sound coming from external speakers or headphones, but nothing from internal speakers.
I have tried everything from reporting the problem on public forums, live help, and done this or that, but nothing changes. It's so very clear to me that it has to do with audio drivers, which don't seem to work appropriately to cover all aspects of sound output.
I also, often, get this loud, weird, irritating noise and a frozen PC when I am playing music with the notebook, while on the internet. The best I do is not to do both at the same time. I have seen similar problems on blogs, but tangible solutions are NOT offered!!!! Please help...

Audio Switching coudl be due to several reason. if you have tried latest audio drivers and latest Video drivers from hp.com, i suggest you to get audio board replaced for your computer.
    Hope it helps.

  • Any resolution to the sound problem?

I have been having the same sound problem with my Mid 2010 Mac Pro tower ever since I got it.  I have been in touch with Apple and have been told that they are familiar with the problem, but that they are still working on a fix.  The problem is that I have external speakers, and every time I shut down and then start up again, I have to go to preferences and physically change the sound output to go to the speakers.  I have also been tole that the Mac is supposed to sense the external speakers and go directly to them.
Is there anybody else out there with this problem, and has been able to resolve it?
    Thank you.

I have a 2010 Mac Pro and use the stereo line out jack in the back of my machine for my speakers with no problem.  I don't recall any problems setting it up.  But check the Audio MIDI Setup (in your utilities folder) to see if you can set it from there (should be able to).  Not sure why the preference wouldn't stick.  And I don't believe there is automatic detection of an attached sound output device where the sound preference switches to that (unless maybe the front jack which I never use).
