HDV Firewire capture....audio monitoring

I came across this post while searching the forum:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7212884&#7212884
Has anyone found a solution to this problem of being forced to listen to the audio when capturing HDV over FireWire. I really need to work on another app and listen to audio and I don't want to listen to what is importing. Thanks in advance for any help.

The big plus with HDMI is an all digital uncompressed signal in a full raster 1920x1080 resolution 4:2:2 color space hardware conversion into the capture card. It is my opinion that the quality is the best it will ever be. Yes you can transcode to Pro Rez given you have an Intel unit or quad G5 to keep up with the software conversion. Yes by transcoding you will avoid HDV conforming. It is well known that converting to an all i-frame codec like DVC Pro HD or Pro Rez is a great way to work from HDV sources. And yes you can either monitor HDV or any other HD format with this card.

  • Balckmagic Intensity Pro Vs. HDV Firewire capture

Assuming a suitable computer and FCP6.
what are the benefits , if any, of capturing via the Intensity Pro card using the HDMI input?
so far what i know is that it uses mjpeg compression (better than HDV compression?)
and you can capture using ProRes codec.
thus avoiding the GOP timeline and long renders.
some suggest the image quality is quite a bit better too.
plus you get a HDMI output for a monitor which seems a big plus for the low cost.
anyone used this card like this?

  • How do I turn off live preview during HDV firewire captures?

My cpu uses a lot of cpu during HDV captures, and I know that a lot of it has to do with the live preview (ie, the window that shows you what is being captured). How do i turn this live preview off? Thanks

If the metronome got recorded on your track from a mic with it coming out of your speakers (the only way it could have been recorded) there's no way to take it out. When you say you turned it off, did you just uncheck it in the control menu? Or did you go to the preferences and change its behavior there? I have mine set for recording only, not on playback. But if you turned it off in the control menu, then it should not be present, unless you inadvertently recorded it from your speakers as I described, and it is not going anywhere. This is one reason it is best to monitor your recording with headphones and not speakers, since anything that comes out of them will be recorded with a live mic close by.

  • Monitoring HDV through Decklink with Firewire Audio Monitoring - Latency

A question for all you pro's out there...
I am currently using Final Cut Studio on a Mac Pro with a Decklink HD Extreme card for monitoring video and a M-Audio Firewire 410 for audio monitoring. My output settings in FCP are having the Decklink for video viewing on a HD Monitor, and Using the firewire 410 for a multichannel audio output. I seem to be having a sync issue with the video and audio not in sync. Does anyone know how I might can correct this sync issue?
What is everyone doing for Multichannel sound?
    Any ideas?
    Thanks for any help!
    Bob

Did you capture threw the BM Decklink? You might have an issue with sync if you did. If you used firewire then its an adjustment I sure. I'm sure there must be a control panel for the BM Decklink. If you can't find it take two asprins call Black Magic in the morning.

  • Audio monitoring follows video to Firewire Output

I'm a new FCS/Soundtrack Pro user but have been using ProTools LE and HD for some time.
When I select Video Out Firewire to view my video on an external monitor my audio monitoring follows and feeds the firewire device instead of my internal Mac outputs or my DIGI-002R.
I only want to view the vision on the monitor and keep my audio outputs playing through the DIGI002R. Is there any way of achieving this or am I missing something in the setup?

  • How can I turn OFF audio monitoring during capture from tape?

FCP has a very useful check box that allows you to turn off audio monitoring during capture, so you can listen to other things whilst the batch captures.  Is there any way to do this in PP?  If not, how can I make a feature request?
    I'm using PP CS6.
    Thanks for any help.
    Dominic

The only other solution I can offer is to go to "edit" "preferences" then select "playback". Under playback set the default audio device to your capturing device instead of the adobe desktop audio. This will allow you capture but not have to listen to whats being captured. However once it's done capturing you'll have to set it back to adobe desktop audio otherwise you can't hear what you're editing in your timeline.
Other than that I'm out of ideas sorry.

  • Multibridge Pro no audio monitoring during capture

I cannot get audio monitoring during capture, from betacam (component) or dv, I tried everything I can think of, does anybody else is running to the same problem?
(running mac pro, plenty of ram, Os version 10.5.2, decklink software 6.6.2, FCP 6.0.2)
    Thanks for any suggestions.

I tried to reboot the multibridge many but to no avail. Regarding the monitoring, I do not really care about monitoring the upload, but I want to be able to log the clip via final cut, and it should work, however it does not.
Also I wanted to know if users of the multibridge have issues with the video levels? I just switch from a HD Decklink card and the difference in level is not right, the multibridge is much to bright. Any suggestions?

  • Capturing audio and video .....

Hello everybody, I'm new to the world of Adobe Premiere Elements, a source present. I have a pavilon pc hp m9040n, Windows Vista Premium 32-bit, Adobe Premiere Elements 3.0. I want to capture audio and video on a DVD, the pilot is set to DV / HDV and the HDV format in the acquisition and says that the peripheral acquicision is not online. The same happens when I connect a video camera Hi8 Sony. Can help to solve this?, Thank you very much.

It sounds like you are having problmes capturing from two separate cameras. What are the manufacturers and the exact model numbers please? Also, how are these cameras attached to the computer, i.e. FireWire cable into the corresponding FireWire port on the computer?
It sounds as though you are attempting to do the Capture from within PE3. Is this correct? If so, what is the order that you connect the cameras, turn them on, their settings and the order that you launch PE3, and also the Capture module of PE3? Might be something there.
    Good luck,

  • Windows 8.1, Premiere Pro CC, Intermittant firewire capture problems

While firewire capture works perfectly from time to time, it seems that more often it does not. Specifically, the capture freezes on the first frame present when opening the capture window. Sometimes it just starts working later in the day. Any ideas what conditions could exist to cause firewire capture to work perfectly sometimes but not others? It doesn't make a difference what deck or camera is attached. It is hit or miss with any device.
    Thanks,

  • Capturing Audio from DAT

    Hello,
I'm trying to capture audio from a DAT deck (Tascam DA-20) into FCP HD by routing it through my JVC BR-DV600U DV deck (RCA output from DAT, RCA input to DV deck, Firewire into FCP).
The DV deck's input is set to line-in, and the audio is being routed through (audio meters on DV deck mimic those on DAT deck, and I can hear the audio through the headphones jacked into my DV deck).
However, when I try to capture the audio on FCP, I am unsuccessful, prompting the following window from FCP: "Error: Final Cut Pro HD was unable to read the movie file just captured."
Now, I use the same set up I described above to capture footage from my Beta deck into FCP with no problems (route Beta signal through DV deck and firewire it into FCP). This leads me to believe that perhaps the glitch lies within my Capture Presets.
At first, I tried to capture the signal as an Audio-Only DV NTSC 48 Khz/Non-controllable device. After that failed, I tried to create my own capture preset, but am not sure it will make a difference, as the only input choices I am given are DV Audio, Built-In Audio, and None.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

Why not capture the audio content outside of FCP, check the sample rate for 48Khz/16-bit, convert if necessary, save as an AIFF file, and then import that resulting sound file into FCP?
Any good audio app, including STP will do captures.
You are probably going to need to do some cleanup on the audio anyway before you use it, so why not just use an audio app to do it beforehand?
Besides, if you have an audio device (PCI card or Firewire device) in your Mac, you can use the S/PDIF port for your connection to the DAT and do a digital transfer when you import.
As I understand the way you are doing it now, you are taking digital content from the DAT, converting it to analog for the connection into your deck, and then re-converting it into digital when you capture it back into FCP.
One big advantage of digital audio (and video) is to avoid generation loss and added noise during transfer if you go D-to-D.
If you don't have an audio card or Firewire A/D audio I/O device with S/PDIF ports in your Mac, then see if you can find a friend who has one and can do the transfer for you. Then he can give you the file on a CD-ROM.
    That's what I'd do.

  • I cannot capture Audio

    MacBook Pro 2.33 GHz
    Final Cut Pro 5.1.4
    Quicktime Pro 7.1.5
    JVC Camcorder GR-DV4000E
Connected via firewire direct to the MacBook
I have reinstalled Quicktime and trashed the FCP preferences.
When I go to Audio/Video settings>Capture Presets and edit my DV PAL 48 kHz settings under Quicktime Video Settings I get [Missing] DV Video and under Quicktime Audio Settings [Missing] DV Audio.
In the digitizer menu under Quicktime Video Settings there is an item DV Video. If I select DV Video it does show next to input my camcorder (GR-DV4000). But when I select DV Video, there is not anymore a setting DV Audio in the menu under Quicktime Audio Settings (not even the [Missing] DV Audio setting).
This behavior does not change if I select View>Reset AV Devices.
I can capture video, but though there seems to be an audio file, it is silent. If I select Show Audio Waveforms in the timeline, there is no waveform visible. The viewer does have a stereo tab but it shows no (visible) audio waveforms.
In System Settings, Capture Audio and Video to Separate Files is disabled. Enabling this does not make any difference.
Is this a known bug? Anything I do wrong? Anything I could try?

Were the capture settings and any other settings the
same for your test with the powerbook?
Have you successfully captured on your macbook pro
    prior to your current problems?
If so, have you made any changes to your system,
software updates, system updates, Third party apps or
    plugins?
In your original post you mention that though
there seems to be an audio file, it is silent
what exactly does this mean? Do you get a green
audio track after capturing, but it is silent? Is
there any movement in the levels meter (next to the
toolbar)? Is there definitely audio on the tape(s)
in question (do you hear it playing it on the cam?)
    Do any other tapes work?
When I originally asked what the capture settings
are, I was wondering if you have set FCP to capture
audio from Ch1 when it was recorded to Ch2 on the
    camera i.e are you capturing audio 'Ch1 + Ch2', Ch1
    (L), CH2 (R), 'Stereo', 'Mono mix'?
The Capture settings were exactly the same.
This is the first time I try to capture on the MacBook Pro.
I used the migration assistant to transfer my software on the Powerbook to the MacBook Pro.
I get 4 green audio tracks that are silent. There is no movement in the audio meters, nor on the timeline, nor in the capture window.
There is audio on the tapes. I have captured 11 different tapes that are all silent. Everything works on the Powerbook. The sound on the tapes is 16 bit stereo. Capture was set to record Left and Right linked as a stereo file.
I think this happens because I cannot select DV Audio in the Audio/Video Settings.
The strange thing is that I get [Missing] DV Video and [Missing] DV Audio in the Audio/Video Settings. In the menu under Video Settings I can select DV Video, but when I select this, there is no more DV Audio in the menu under Audio Settings.
The tapes were captured with [Missing] DV Video and [Missing] DV Audio. This captures the video but not the audio.

  • By passing  Kona for direct firewire capture/control

    Greetings
First let me qualify this by saying that it's quite possible I'm missing something very basic in FCP and MAC config and use. I'm not immune to overlooking the obvious or stupid mistakes. So having said that...
I'm running a FCP 5 on a MacPro with a Kona AJA card.
In the course of trying to capture HD video from a Sony HVR-M25U deck I've had problems matching capture res/format and deck control. Tried every possible combo of capture and control preset available.
To make a very long story short, the best I could do was capture 1080i via the "capture now". (Obviously I don't get TC from the tape which will cause problems in future edit sessions.)
In the course of many discussions a possible problem might be that the KONA card is some how preventing direct Firewire capture and control.
So my question is, is there an easy way during boot up to disable the KONA? If there is a way it would (probably) allow a standard firewire ingest.
    I hope this makes sense.
I guess what I'm asking for is a way to fool my Mac into thinking there is no KONA without having to physically remove it from the slot.

You don't have to disable the Kona to capture firewire, just select an appropriate easy setup (non Kona)
so you have a Kona LE?
What we usually do with HDV that needs to be repeatable or be used in other systems is bump to HDCam with new code (to avoid TC breaks) then capture the result of that.
If it doesn't need to be repeatable we come in pro res or DVCProHD so editing/ finishing is a frame based codec.
If you have hdmi on the deck and or camera you might want to look at

Log and Capture window --> Clip Settings tab
right hand side, lower "Audio" pane ... there should be a checkbox called "Preview" , make sure it is checked.
Or monitor it from your capture device...deck, camera, whathaveyou.

  • Premiere Pro 1.5.1 HDV VIDEO CAPTURE - Canon HV20

    Hi,
For the life of me I cannot get my camera to capture in HDV. I can switch over to DV and it will capture everything just fine. The settings I recorded in are HDV standard, Widescreen 29fps. Not the 24. But it just tells me the device is ofline no matter what I try. I grabbed a stand alone CineForm HDLink and that doesn't detect it either. Any help would be greatly appreciated. The Client wants HD, not DV.

    Thanks in advance!

Ok, I spoke to soon. I kept searching and searching.  Finally found this..
    http://www.hv20.com/showthread.php?t=12131
My camera was locked in DV mode. So I had to switch it to HDV/DV
"b) As many have said you need to be sure that the camera is set ot output in HDV, and not DV locked. Because I am a bit of a dunce I found it difficult to locate that, even with the manual so here are some foolproof instructions on how to get there:
    in "Play" Mode > FUNC > MENU > PLAY/OUT SETUP2 > DV OUTPUT [set this to HDV/DV]"
    That did it.

  • Firewire for Audio Input

I have Soundtrack Pro 3 running a Mac Pro. I have a Canopus ADVC-100 A/D converter attached via firewire. I am able to successfully capture audio and video via the ADVC-100 using Final Cut Pro 7.
I would like to use the ADVC-100 to capture audio for Soundtrack Pro 3, however the firewire link does not show up in STP's recording inputs. The only options are: Default, Built-in Line Input and Built-in Digital Input.
I have the feeling that the problem may be that the ADVC-100 needs to be configured in OS X as an audio source. It does show up in the Profiler as sitting on the FireWire Bus.
I realize that I could simply capture the audio into FCP and then port it to STP, however I want to do voiceovers directly into STP.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated, including smacks on the back of the head for obvious solutions which I have missed.
    Cheers
    Randy Mennie

Your feeling is right. It needs to be configured as an audio device. If you can't see it in Audio Midi set up (in Applications -> Utilites) and it doesn't have an audio driver, then it won't show up as an available input in STP.
