HDV footage won't play smoothly in CC

I found my question on the forum and I'm having the same problem too, this is very frustrating.  Once in a While it's necessary to use HDV footage (i wish i didn't have to, but...) "When playing the HDV footage, it freezes in the preview window and in the sequence too, until I hit stop it will jump to that point in the clip. If I lay just the audio clip play it plays perfectly (me too). The settings and loading is accurate to the project. Frame rate 29.97/ 1440x1080. I have imported these clips in CS6 which play flawlessly (in the past this was not a problem) but not in CC."
Please fix this problem or lets find a work around... this project is heavy based on HDV shot in 2011 - this will happen every so often - we're still going to need to get the job done.
thank you

When I have the symptoms you have described, I find switching to the software renderer rather than the GPU enhanced Mercury engine often fixes it.

  • Specific set of XDCam EX720p50 footage won't play in Premiere (or After Effects)

    Hi There
I've been given a media drive full of past projects and media by a client, which contains (among other things) .mov files which Quicktime Player Movie Inspector tells me are XDCam EX720p50 35Mb/s VBR 1280x720, 16 bit integer (little-endian), Stereo 48Khz.  The sound plays fine, but the video shows only a red screen with occasional digital-dropout-like square flicking across the screen.
This PC system is newly installed and running OK, and footage of the same type (given the same credentials by Quicktime Player) from a different client plays fine in Premiere
(Quicktime player will open both sets of files and give you the info, but sends you to the extra-codec page)
So my conclusion is there's a problem with the set of files that won't play (rather than the system)
    And my question is....
WHAT CAN I DO?  Can anyone give me some advice on how I might get these files working?  They have been edited before in a previous version of Premiere by another editor, without issue so they should work...
    All help appreciated
    Thanks

I have a similar problem. A friend sent me the .mov files he recordedin the XDCAM 16x9 1920x1080 . I can't import them into my Win7 Premiere Pro. Codec Missing or unavailable. Lots of people seem to have the same proble id using a PC - particularly when they have been sent the .mov files on a hard drive. The folder
I can play the videos using VLC but not on WindowsMedia or DivX (sound only) or with QuickTime ( won't load - needs new software from Adobe plugins)
If this is a codec problem why can VLC play it?
I have checked out the files with MediaInfo and they are slightly different to the above. Are there ary rules to determing the value of the parameter for the bat file for my mov file. I think this looks like stereo but you will recognise the information you would need. I tried the current bat but that has another audio file map.

  • Purchased videos won't play smoothly

I thought I would give iTMS a spin and download a couple free videos before I spent any money. Boy am I glad I did. I can't get any of the videos to play smoothly at all. They are a little better using just quicktime but it still isn't acceptable. I went through all the troubleshooting steps but nothing worked. I believe it is a music store-related problem because I have videos in higher resolutions that play just fine. Could somebody help me out?

The video is really jerky and the sound cuts out a little, kind of like a dial-up stream I suppose. If I had the patience, I could watch the whole 20-minute video but I doubt it would get better, the first two miutes are terrible and it doesn't improve at all. I don't have a virus and I have plenty of resources. I can play other videos just fine. The iPhone demo on "Large" plays just fine. This problem is only limited to purchased videos.

  • Playbck window is green and footage won't play

    Hi,
I'm using an ACER Aspire 5920, and the Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit Operating System. Last month I did some filming on a Panasonic HDC-SD60 camcorder then imported the footage into Premiere Pro CS4 and did all the editing bits and pieces I needed to do. A very smooth process.
However I've tried to do the same this month and although I've used the same camcorder and not changed any of my Premiere Pro settings I'm having trouble editing.
When I click the play button to show the footage in the playback screen, the screen is green and I cannot see any footage at all, but I can hear the audio. When I click on the playback window, the audio playback stops but the first image from the footage appears. When I click play again, the footage image disappears, I can hear audio but only see green screen.
    Image here show's the problem:
Any idea what's going on? Thanks in advance for any help anyone may be able to give!

    Liv,
The embedded Intel graphics chips are good for general computing, but fall very short for either image editing, or especially video editing. It's not so much the chips themselves (though they are limited too), but the lack of driver support. With a desktop, the "fix" is to bypass the embedded chip (by DIP switches, jumpers or through the BIOS), and replacing their function with an nVidia, or ATI card. Unfortunately, with a laptop, this is not normally possible (would say is totally impossible, but there might be some exceptions).
The problem is that an NLE program, like PrPro, has to interface much more closely with the video driver, than almost any other program on one's computer. Photoshop is similar, though not to the level that PrPro is. Video drivers are very, very important with video-editing.
Glad that you have a new machine on order. Go with nVidia, or ATI for the graphics, and be wary of any mfgr., that does a proprietary driver. I ran afoul of such with an older Toshiba. Though it had nVidia chips, it would ONLY work with the Toshiba re-written drivers, and Toshiba never issued any. I had to "roll my own," and that was a bit of work. Both Dell and HP seem to do some video driver tweaking, but are much more regular with their releases. Not sure how Toshiba does nowadays.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • HD 1080i footage won't play

I'm trying to play multiple pieces of footage shot in 1080i. Quicktime will not play it. I do get audio on some of them, but the video is white which makes me think that I'm missing a codec.
I'm using a dual 2.7 with quicktime pro. So, I have no clue what I would be missing. Does someone know which coded handles hd footage and where I can go to get it. Or if I'm going wrong in some other area, let me know.
    Help!

Have you tried playing the video using VLC? I've always found this alternative player to be a good option, especially with regards to providing specific information on video and audio formats from the drop-down menu.
Otherwise, once you launch the video in QT, go Window>show movie properties. What format is displayed in the video track window?
Certainly your machine should be able to handle the weight of the video, and the white screen at least pulling up tells me you are missing a video codec, which is your idea as well - the question is, which one...
I doubt you are looking at video from MPEG-2HD, but it is possible as you mentioned "footage."

  • After quicktime upgrade, old movie won't play smooth

Hi, I had an older verson of quicktime and a movie I had edited in imovie worked and played fine, then I upgraded to quicktime 7.0.1 and now the movie plays unsmooth with pasues and skips. All my other movies that I edited in imovie play fine, but they are not as big. Any ideas on why or what I should do? thanks
    powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

The object tag code is used by Internet Explorer and the embed tag is used by all other browsers.
Your page code is missing quote marks around the words true, loop and controller. This may be causing other browsers some trouble.
I tried downloading the file via QuickTime Player's Open URL feature:
    http://inthestudioshow.com/media/Inthe_Studio_ep_promomed.mov
The movie is not set to fast start. You can fix this by using QT Pro.
Open the file (the version on your server) and use Save As (save location is your Desktop). Upload this "new" version to your server and replace the "old" one.
Save As will restore the fast start properties in the file.

  • Why don't videos don't play smoothly? They take forever to buffer

I'm running FireFox 11.o on Windows XP. I clean my history and cookies. I defrag. My add-ons and plug-ins are up to date. I've gone into about;config and played with the dom.ipc.plugins and changed them true/false each one. Why won't the videos I want to watch play smoothly? I use VLC media player and Windows media player and enabled and disabled each one to see if a video will play better on one or the other. No change on the players. Can you recommend anything else I can do to see why videos won't play smoothly?
    Thanks in Advance.

  • Premiere Pro CS6 won't play imported files even after changing format, etc?

    Camera: Canon Legria HFM41
    Video file format: MTS (1920 x 1080)
For the past few days I've been trying to understand why my video files won't play in Premiere, I'll import them, and when I press play the audio will work, but the video will play smoothly for only a few seconds then stop, skipping frames/slowing the speed of the video - I've read a lot of these forums on similar issues, then I tried converting the format to avi/mp4 and they still won't play smoothly when importing to Premiere Pro.. Does anyone know what I may be doing wrong/how to solve this.. Thank you!

  • Purchased movies won't play

I'm not sure of this is the section...
I just purchased a movie through the iTunes store and it won't play smoothly at all.  I get 5 minutes (if I'm lucky) of smooth play and synced sound but then the picture freezes and lags then unfreezes all the while the audio is still playing without issue.
I've downloaded the most recent version of iTunes (I dl'd the correct bit version).
Any ideas how to make this work?
    Thanks in advance.

Yet such information (or anything useful for that matter) was not present in your OP. Good luck.

  • HDV imported from After Effect not playing smooth

    Hi,
I work with HDV footage from Sony V1E in FCP. For some reason, i need to do a few things in AE. I then export it there, work it out and rexport it from AE. There I use the HDV 1080/25fps quicktime compression. When I bring it back to FCp, it even shows as no need to be rendered on my TimeLine. But it doesn't play correctly at all. Like if it was to big or... i don't know... I can;t even render it since it appears as not needing it...
What can I do? Help would be very much appreciated...
    Thx
    Federico

If it looks good in AE then the aspect will be correct already (tends to get set incorrectly when using capture cards like decklink etc), have you tried forcing FCP to render the AE footage on the timeline (tick full in render all then press Option+R)? The HDV codec is really harsh, it could be the multi converting is introducing the error you are seeing. I tend to export using the animation codec, then re-render everything in FCP, not ideal when you have time constraints.
One last thought, have you checked the AE output setting has field rendering enabled or not, this is independent of the timeline setting.

  • After a itunes update my HDV mov files won't play on my mac.

I have two anserws I think might work for you. The first one is: This solved the issue down loading and re-installing Quicktime 7.5.5
    http://www.digitalrebellion.com/blog/posts/using_pacifist_to_downgrade_quicktime .html
I'd create a backup of the System / Components and Quicktime folders first though, just incase you need to revert back.
    and the 2nd one is:
I HAVE A FIX...AND IT WORKS!!!!!!!!!  Actually a friend found this fix somewhere else, but I just did it and it worked.  The only rub is you need to have access to another system that has not been updated to iTunes 10.5 or QT 7.7.
On the system that has not been updated, go to:
MAC HD/System/Library/Components and copy that folder to an external drive...next go to
MAC HD/System/Library/QuickTime and copy that folder to an external drive.
On the system that is not working, go to the same places on the MAC HD and delete those two folders.  Then copy the folders from your external drive to the same location.  Restart you system...i did it twice...and everything should be back to normal.  This has worked on both systems here that were previously jacked up.  If you do not have access to a system that was not messed up, let me know and maybe we can swap files.
I havent tried any of these yet because I'm in the middle of a project and I dont wnat anything to go wrong right now. After I'm done I will be sure to get started on one of these.
If you try any one of these let me know how it works out.

  • Files don't play smoothly when exporting from Final Cut Pro

    Hello,
I have this strange problem that's haunting me for weeks (well months now)...
I've made some videos, shot with a HD-camera (Sony, HDV HDR-FX1E (PAL)), 1080i), and I want to export it to the apple TV.
The problem is that the videos on the appleTV dont't run smoothly, they don't really stutter, but they do have a problem, like they're missing a frame...
Now, I don't know what it is, but I tried everything.
I've tried all different settings in
    - Compression, like progressive, deinterlacing, keeping the interlacing, changing it to lower field, changing the framerate to 24 fps (as I read somewhere in another post as that 25 fps would be the problem).
    - MPEG Streamclip
    - ffMPEG
    - Visualhub
Well, I even tried it on a PC...
But all with the same result.
Then I tried it to convert the to DV (through the camera). But all with the same result.
So I thought it could be on my footage, but my originals are fine. When playing on my TV they play smoothly, even the edited ones.
When exporting the same edited files to DVD, the DVD plays fine without a hitch, but you can see a downgrade in quality...
    The standard conversion settings where:
1280x720 (PAL) @ 25fps, 3 kbs (I started higher, but i downgraded), and then I tried all the above settings...
I also lowered the dimensions, but that didn't work either.
Then I dit a few tests with Handbrake and converted a (home-)DVD and, as to my surprise, I had the same problem!
BUT! The apple TV plays trailers and movies from the store without any problems...
TV is set to 1080i (Sony). But I also tried 720p, 576i, 576p, all with the same effect...
On the tv side... The files are not streamed. They are played directly from the hard disk.
Even though, streamed or directly, the problem stays the same...
    I'm really desperate.
If there's anyone who could help, thanks in advance!
    Kind regards,

Been trying something else in the meantime...
On a Plextor MediaX, the files play fine and perfect, either in MPEG2 HD (ts), or Xvid HD (avi), on the same TV as the appleTV.
I've encoded them through Xilisofts video-converter (PC) and ffmpeg (Mac).
But still no luck with appleTV and the h264 encodings... The stuttering there remains
Could anyone give me the right settings for PAL and HD? Can I use 25fps?
(Well, the usual settings in Compressor doesn't seem to work, so if anybody has some more advise?)
Or could there be something wrong with my appleTV?
My rentals play fine? I don't understand it...
    Well, thanks for your time,
    Regards,

  • Premiere Pro CS4 Won't Play Anything Without Stopping

I have captured HDV and DV footage and Premiere won't play anything. Not in the Source monitor, not in the Timeline/Program Monitor. It won't even play a color matte or bars and tone. It will play for less than a second, stop and the marker will go back to the original starting point.
I am running PPro on a Macbook Core 2 Duo and the footage is fine. I can play it outside of Premiere in other programs but I cannot figure anything out inside of Premiere. Its fully updated and everything.
    Can anyone help me?

    Hi Rod,
After some hardcore Googling and some nifty search tricks, I found I wasn't the only one. I found this thread where people were having the exact same problem:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/2575099
I did what someone else said where I enabled the root user, logged into that account, loaded Premiere and changed the Audio Hardware to System Default. I then went back to my user account and loaded the project file I was working in. Everything works great now. Thank god.
