HDV import problems with Leopard

I recently 'upgraded' to Leopard, when I try and import HDV (From HV20) to my iMac it has become a green-tinged video. Occasionally it will have flashes of the actual colour, which lead me to believe it may be a problem with the Firewire cable I'm using. So I changed my Firewire and the same thing is happening. It worked perfectly before on Tiger. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there anything else I can do?
Thanks

Yes, upgraded to Leopard and found the same problem going from my Sony A1 to 2.4ghz iMac. iMovie digitises a green & purple solarised picture when importing in HDV, but is fine when importing DV. When I try to import in Final Cut it crashes the program outright. It's obviously a bug, I can't understand why Apple aren't on to this it must be driving everyone nuts and costing pro users a lot of money. C'mon guys, you started getting posts in November 2007 about this, you need to get a fix out pronto! This is not what we move to Apple for!!

  • Digital Camera Connection Problems With Leopard

    Hi Everyone,
I'm having a big problem with connecting various digital cameras to my macs. I have 3 different machines (a G5 iMac, 2 MacBook Pros) all running 10.5.1 or 10.5.2 and none of them will recognize my canon Powershot SD800 or my SD1000. I haven't had a chance to test it out with my Digital Rebel yet but I'm suspecting I may run into the same issue.
I've read through all the tech notes in the iLife section and various articles on the web and from what I can tell Apple has a problem with usb device connections in Leopard. I've tried all of the fixes (deleting caches folder, resetting PRAM, updating all applications, etc) and nothing works. The cameras were working fine under 10.4.11. I was really hoping Apple would have fixed this in 10.5.2 but it is still not working. Does anyone have any ideas if Apple is working on this? For photographers like myself this is a major deal. I can get around the issue right now using an external memory card reader, but that's extremely inconvenient at times and I'm just not impressed that something like this has gone months without a fix from Apple.

And I'm not having any problems with Leopard mounting my Canon PowerShot Pro or Rebel though I typically don't connect them, choosing to use a card reader instead. (Saves camera battery.) This is true on the 4 computers I use at home and work as well as my wife's MacBook. Two came with Leopard pre-installed the other 3 I installed Leopard using Archive & install.
We can talk about how you upgraded to Leopard or what you have installed that might be getting in the way, or you can buy an inexpensive card reader and be done with the hassle.

  • Anyone else having a Problem with Leopard and Photoshop CS3?

I'm using CS3 with Leopard 10.5.4 at work and there are some very aggravating anomalies, that I'd like to nail down to a cause. Most frequently, when switching from apps to P'Shop, the menu bar stays for the previous app, i.e. when going from Finder to P'shop, the menu bar still says Finder and has Finder options. Changing from Lightwave to P'Shop, the menu bar remains Lightwave.
Occasionally, an Adobe app - P'Shop or InDesign - will simply disappear and not come back. The icon in the dock shows it as active, but no amount of clicking, Command-Tabbing will reveal the app and I have to Force Quit, losing unsaved changes.
I have a feeling it's Leopard, since, I've used CS3 on Tiger and CS4 on Tiger and never had a problem.
I'm wondering if upgrading to the latest Leopard would make much of a difference.
Has anyone come across this and found any kind of answers?
    Thanks for any suggestions.

    > Just because it doesn't happen to Phil (who may not use all of the same features of the Suite that others do anyway) does NOT mean that these problems are not real and are not mere PEBCAK.
Right. If someone is having a problem associated with Tiger, it's PEBAK. If Leopard is involved, it's automatically because of Leopard. Apparently, with Apple's latest OS, trouble shooting problems are no longer necessary - just blame it on Leopard and call it a day.
    b FUD
I find the dynamics here really interesting. This thread would have been very different if Vincent had posted with problems involving Tiger. Would have gone something like this:
After admonishing him for not providing more information about his setup by posting the obnoxious big blue link on how to ask questions (ahem - we know NOTHING about his machine or configuration, such as which machine, how much RAM, scratch disk or attached peripherals), there'd be all kinds of trouble shooting advice given - "try a new user", "repair permissions", "run DiskWarrior, and on and on ...
But no, since he mentions Leopard, none of that is apparently necessary and the completely, utterly
    b irresponsible
advice is given ... "that's just the way Leopard is".
Those are some serious problems he's reporting that have nothing to do with Leopard. Something is obviously hosed!
As for discounting my experience because I don't use every app in the suite as extensively as I do Photoshop, I'm FAR more qualified to discuss Leopard and CS issues than Ann or Neil who do not use Leopard at all (and have never used it as far as I know.)
"Others have problems with it", is their battle cry but it's extremely weak. Do I really need to remind you all that these forum are ALWAYS filled with people who have problems, regardless of version or OS? You act as if this forum was a ghost town when Tiger and CS3 were current!
Gee, Ann ... people are STILL reporting problems with 10.5 and CS3? How shocking! Guess what - people are STILL reporting problems with 10.4 and CS3 too! Let me make a prediction - people will have problems with 10.8 and CS9!
    Vincent-
    > I don't really deal with fonts anyway ...
Yes. You do. Even if you never type a single line of text, every application uses fonts to create menus and other GUI items. If one of those fonts are bad, it can create all kinds of problems, including the very problems you mention.
The fact that you don't seem aware of this and you're still using 10.5.4 leads me to believe you're not familiar with the basic practices of maintaining a healthy system. Again, how did you install Leopard on that machine?
Look, if you're simply trying to justify using CS4, go right ahead. It's a worthwhile upgrade in it's own right. However, if you install it on that machine in it's current state, CS4 will NOT fix your problems because you do NOT have a healthy system.
You asked for experiences with Leopard - I can launch every application in both CS3 and CS4 suites
    i simultaneously,
and STILL not have your issues. I haven't experienced anything like your CS3 problems in Leopard - on both a 2006 Mac Pro and a 2008 Macbook.
If you'd like help to try and figure out the real problem, I'm more than happy to help. If not, Adobe will gladly take your money ...

  • A few problems with Leopard running on my White iMac...

I have only found 2 problems so far with Leopard running on my iMac. First off, the most annoying one:
Sometimes, especially when switching users, the screen turns to the "gray screen of death." You know, the one with the request to restart your computer in like 4 languages and a huge picture of a power button... anyway, it is getting quite annoying and I wish I could make it stop. It has also happened when I have been dealing with moving large amounts of data, "large pictures, movies, etc.)
And now, the second problem. I was just looking up the memory left on my hard drive when I noticed something I hadn't before. my 160gb hard drive had 50gb left. not too strange there. but when I checked through all the things (apps, users, system, library, developer, etc.) in it (I simply did apple-i and checked the gb each of them took up) and after a quick add-up on my calculator widget, all the things in the hard drive added up to 50gb. so I have 50gb free, 50gb used and a 160gb hard drive. How does that work? Do I need to do something to get that extra 60gb back or is it just gone???

Is there any way just to show hidden folders like on a PC?
There's probably a way to coerce Finder.app into showing everything
(all is possible in unix) -- but I don't know the OS-X magic words.
It told me that improper of the "sudo" command could lead to data loss
and i don't want to risk doing anything stupid (like a misspelling) that
could lead to my hard drive being wrecked.
Good advice. IMO, the 'du' (disk usage) command is safe, because it's
'read only' -- but I undestand that you'd be hesitant to trust your data
to advice fom an anonymous voice from "The Internets." I can't/won't
    argue with common sense.
You can run the same command without the 'sudo' prefix. It might
miss a few things and/or spit some 'permission denied' messages,
but the results will at least be a lower-bound of disk usage.

  • Importing problems with MP4 files.

A friend of mine wanted me to make a DVD  with some media files that they sent me (all with .mp4 extentions). I've just purchased CS6 Premuin Pro so I thought I'd try ENCORE to do it with (previously I've been using DVDStyler). However I had problems with importing the mp4 files they sent. Some of the files import OK, but with others I get this error:
Couldn't import file FILENAME, Quicktime and/or the appropriate codec do not appear to be installed.
Now I did have Quicktime Alternative, along with the K-Lite Mega Codec Pack installed. Did a bit of searching and found advice to remove the K-Lite pack and Quicktime Alternative, and update with Quicktime and another set of Codecs (I've installed the Windows 7 codec pack v4.06, as I'm using Win7). However, I'm still getting the same error message when I try and import some of the files. I don't know their origin or what created them as such. However, I did download a copy of MediaInfo and got the following for each type of file.

Just what is the problem here? Why will the first type of file import OK, but the second not, and what can be done about that (do I need to load an extra codec, and if so what)?  The odd thing is that using a program like DVDStyler, I can load those files and actually build a DVD. And yes, I know that's an entirely different program, but it just seems odd to me that an open-source program seems to do something Encore can't (and I'd much rather use Encore to build DVDs). No doubt this is something obvious but I'm a novice with Encore and Premiere, so I'm missing it anyway.

Codec packs, even the "better" ones, do not typically provide codecs that Premiere and Encore can use.
The "problem" file is a flash format (whether it is an mp4 container or not).
"Consumer" type DVD authoring/burning applications, and even more so, all in one apps like windows movie maker etc, may be more "powerful" when you are trying to take a large range of formats and create a DVD with relatively few options. This is not Encore's strength.
Encore will reject almost anything that has flaws it isn't able to handle, but more importantly (once you get to this step), it will treat as noncompliant (and  re-transcode) anything that is not DVD compliant.
My guess is that you need to get  the flash into something that will work better for transcoding to DVD compliant.
I would first try to bring one of the problem files into Adobe Media Encore, and see if you can export an MPEG2-DVD file.
Not that, while there are some less known DVD resolutions, I assume you are going to end up with 720x576 PAL. I wonder what the quality will look like....
If you are just looking to get the files onto a DVD to play on a DVD player, just stick with DVDStyler.

  • Problem with leopard DVD loading in PowerPC G4

Hi having problems installing Leopard DVD on Mac G4 desk top - 1GHz PowerPC G4 (3,6), 1MB L3 Cache, 768 MB Ram.
    A few of the details:
    1) I have installed Leopard on my Laptop and it is running fine and it is a family pack edition DVD.
    2) I wiped the G4 I am trying to install clean and re-loaded the original system software, then loaded to Tiger to see if that was the issue...When I put in the Leopard DVD it doesn't even show as being in the computer. It doesn't come up on the desk top...it doesn't show in the HD...it doesn't make a sound at all when put in the DVD slot...basically, the computer is not recognizing the DVD. I have tried other cd's and DVD's in the drive....everything is working except the Leopard DVD.
    Any ideas?

  • Weird problems with Leopard on iMac G5

I've started having some weird problems—I think they may have started after running iDefrag, please no discussions about whether to defrag or not, but I'd done it before since upgrading to Leopard and nothing like this ever happened—sometimes while looking at a picture in Preview I'll click outside the frame onto the desktop, but it won't switch to the Finder, no matter how many times I click, also sometimes the computer will go to sleep *while I'm using it* (i.e. moving the mouse); I have set to put the display to sleep after five minutes of inactivity, and the computer never (I donate my CPU cycles).
Also sometimes when I click on the Firefox icon in the Dock it appears as well in another section (so I have two FF icons at once)--I've been having some problems with FF and I think it's a bad profile but would this be related?
All this started within the past week or so, but there wasn't a clear-cut before-and-after with the defragging (I did run OWC Media Scanner for the very first time, but it didn't find any errors, so presumably it didn't change anything), so I'm a little stumped. I ran Disk Utility and DiskWarrior, but the former didn't find anything and the latter only found a custom flag icon error.

  • ASCII import problem with symbol 0xFF

When I'm importing ASCII file which contain the special symbols like 0xFF it's recognized as fields separator. The impcat is incorrect structure. I need this symbol because it is cyrillic character which appears in contact names very often. How may I import contacts with correct names.

    Jean,
This appears to be a bug in the way the export program runs on 9.2. It seems to be a problem only in the API call that you showed us: wwv_flow_api.create_report_columns and its p_pk_col_source=> value. This can get corrupted when you have a tabular form column that uses a Primary Key Source Type of Custom PL/SQL Function or Existing Sequence, which is a choice you make in the builder wizards or later on the report column edit page in the Tabular Form Element region.
If you can find all of these situations (using the builder) by looking at the report columns for reports related to the new 1.6 features that you mentioned, then change them all to use an existing trigger instead (create a dummy trigger T_DUMMY first), you might be able to get an uncorrupted export file. The next step, which is an unofficial workaround, is to find those API calls in the export file, looking for     p_pk_col_source_type=> 'T',
p_pk_col_source=> 'T_DUMMY',Then change the 'T' to 'S' and the trigger name to the correct sequence for the column involved and that should do it. If you need to enter a PL/SQL function, change 'T' to 'F' and enter the PL/SQL code in place of the trigger name.
We're still investigating this problem, so please let us know if this helps you out in the short term.

  • Import problems with LR 4.4

I am suddenly having problems importing photos with Lightroom. I get an error message "Some import operations were not performed. The following files were not imported because they could not be read." Doesn't matter what camera I am using. I can open, convert and import the photos with Bridge. I have the Destination dropdown menu set to "All folders."  I am using a Mac.
    Can someone help?

I too am having this issue. I bring them in from the card and all is well under bridge or PS. When they come into LR I get some windows that say (library/import) say that some images can not be displayed. Then I import. It bring all the images in, even the one that it said it can't read. Then in the end it reports back that XXX number of images could not be read.
However, after clicking OK, they are in the library. When it goes to render the preview that were it all goes down in flames. Renders turn out pink, yellow, green bands as if the images are corrupt and in short the whole thing looks like your worst nightmare. In review of the image on the drive all is well.
In desperation I down loaded a trial version, loaded it in and wrote over the LR4.4 file on the drive. Launched LR. It read the  SN# and we were off and running. I have had this issue on two computers.
    Bug?
    Best of luck,

  • IDVD problem with Leopard

I just installed Leopard a week ago and only discovered the "blank screen" problem today when I tried to load iDVD. The problem is NOT my graphic card, nor is it my understanding of HOW to use the program, and I have installed all updates available to date. I have created many successful iDVD projects in the past using several different themes. Now the themes show up in the customize menu but when I select one and when iDVD first opens, no theme displays. This is evidently a bug or something with Leopard that needs to be fixed. Anybody have any real solutions here? If not, Leopard isn't worth it to me because I use iDVD frequently and have a large media project I need to do in the next few days and I cannot do it because of the blank screen.

The reason I made a new post is because I read the other posts you refer to and there was nothing helpful in them. Nothing. You can see that in that no one in the other post found a solution either. Perhaps a new thread will encourage someone else
I am not running iDVD 7, I am running 5 that comes bundled with Tiger. I used it successfully until I installed Leopard. I would appreciate a real solution to this, at least a real reply rather than going through tutorials for iLife 08 which I do not have, and when I've been using iDVD successfully for a couple years now a tutorial is of no real help. This is what some of the others have been saying as well.
Can someone please actually address this instead of sending us in tutorial circles, etc? If there's a glitch with using anything prior to iLife 08, we need to know this upfront BEFORE installing Leopard so Apple needs to know about this.
Does an upgrade to iLife 08 fix it? Do I need to go ahead and get rid of Leopard? Thanks.

  • Folder Action Problems with Leopard 10.5.8

My company recently upgraded from 10.4.11 to 10.5.8 and our folder actions have been stopping mid-process or not working at all. Sometimes a few files will process and then everything stops completely.
Our workflow involves the use of several different hot folders that use folder actions (converting InDesign CS4 documents to various quality of PDFs). All of the actions are single stream, meaning each folder does the action it's assigned and the original file is trashed and the new file remains in the folder. There are no subsequent folder actions that pull from the newly processed files. We also only run one folder action (with several files dropped in it) at a time.
I have also tried running a pre-made generic folder action script from Apple and it, too will stop mid-process, process a few files then stop, or not work at all.
Does anyone know what might be causing this problem with either the new Applescript or Folder Actions with Leopard 10.5.8?

I have several scripts that all work different ways. One script I have opens the InDesign document, exports a PDF to a different folder located elsewhere on the hard drive (where a different script searches for PDFs). After this the original document is sent to the trash. Nothing new is created in the original Folder Action Scripted folder.
What's more, even Apple's stock Folder Actions don't work properly and stop mid-process. I've seen vague reports of 10.5.8 having issues with Applescript or Leopard in general. The fact this script works perfectly in 10.4.11 makes me think that something has changed with the way Leopard handles the FA's.

    HELP!!!
    LK

    Hi Folks!
Well, I have spent a lot of time going back and forth between Adobe and Apple techs for days, and it comes down to this:
I was told by both that I could do a clean install of the Leopard and chance that the Adobe Photoshop and InDesign will still have the same problems, or I can wait for Adobe to work on fixes for the software.
When I originally installed the Leopard it was installed over the original Tiger operating system. I have loads of software on the computer, Quark, MS Office, CS3 Design Premium, and much more and other than some issues with my AOL everything works perfectly except the problem mentioned above with Photoshop and InDesign. AOL is working on a new software for Leopard which should come out soon. It seems that Adobe needs to do the same with Photoshop and InDesign, or make fixes for the many problem, which from I read they are trying to do.
I would really hate to do a clean install on my computer, with all the work that comes with it reinstalling software, printer drivers, etc., just to find that Photoshop and InDesign will still have problems.
From some of what I read from others on this string, and in other areas of the forum, it looks like people are often having problems with Photoshop and InDesign even if they did a clean install.
If anyone had done a clean install and are still having problems, please mention it on this string.
    THANK YOU!!

  • Printing problems with Leopard

Using Macbook pro and loaded Leopard. Using Airpot network and Xerox Phaser 4500DT. With Leopard I can't print documents - the printer goes into self-test mode when I send a Word/Excel doc and then freezes. Document needs to be deleted from printer queue and then printed again. Anyone else having problems printing with Leopard? Mac Support argues that Xerox need to develop new rinter driver for Leopard.

I think i figured it out ... Apple has intentionally disabled printing because this is a way to control the manufacturers who stole laser printing and ink jet printing technology and started mass producing these items—filling stores with clones of clones. Did you notice Apple stopped making printers a decade ago?
Its either that or this is a simulation to control the market when paper shortages become a reality. All our computers will be disabled immediately via a meta bot that activates wirelessly with your computer even if you don't even connect to the internet.
Pretty Cool Eh ! I just made that up now.
