HDV just one large mpeg file after capture?

Hi,
i have captured one hour HD Video from a HDV tape into PE8. But then the cature is done it gets only one laaaaarge file.
Why doens't the scene dectection works? I have tried to do Auto analyze afterwords but it doesn't work either.
One more question. I have a small Canon Ixus 100 IS that recrods in .mov format. How do i import .mov into PE8?
I must install Quicktime? But if i don't want to?

i am using P8E to make the capture and i use the predefined HDV settnings in PE8 (1080i 25 frames /sec).
The camera is a Sony HDR HC3 (HDV cam).
Then i do the capture it results in a large single MPEG-file (the format PE8 use), So i guess the fileformat is correct.
My question was why the scene detection doesn't work? =)

Why no more clips and just one big .mov file?

I had been working in iMovie and iDVD 4 for some time up until present when I upgraded to iLife 6. One of the things I like about ver. 4 was that the whole movie was saved as a file but there were also the individual clips saved as well. I could use these clips when creating my iDVD project. Now I see that those clips are gone and there's just one big .mov file to drop into my iDVD themes. Why did they do this??? Is there some benefit to this that I'm not understanding? Maybe I don't have something set correctly in the prefs.? Is there anyway around this so that I have control over what part of a movie gets dropped into my iDVD themes?

Thank you so much, Matt. That did the trick. I would've never thought of that. I was beginning to figure that the clips just had to be somewhere else that wasn't obvious to me. I couldn't believe that they would do away with that. Thanks again!

Trying to split one large audio file into tracks

Hi;
Awhile ago I mistakenly imported a CD into iTunes, as one large audio file, containing all 10 tracks. Now I'd like to know how to split this file back into it's separate tracks, and re-import into iTunes.
Any thoughts?

MP3 editor is a lossless editor for MP3 files.
-> Fission, will do lossles editing of AIFF, WAV, MP3, AAc and Apple Lossless.
You can do it yourself but the songs will be re-encoded (not lossless) but may not be a big deal.
On the song, right click - get info. Click the Options tab and set the Start-Stop times for the first song.
Then select the song, menu Advanced - Create AAC version {or whatever is selected in iTunes prefs -General - Importing}.
This will create a new copy of the song between the time markers. Select the new song, righ click - get info and update the song title.
Then on the original song, set Start-Stop times for the second song and menu Advanced - Create AAC version the for the 2nd song.
Do this for all the songs in the original file.

PSE 10 will not edit large picture files after it accepts them. After editing it either changes jpeg to psd or greys out the file. What must I do?

PSE 10 allows large picture files into the organizer and editor but after editing, saving, and closing, the jpeg returns to the organizer either with a psd file extension or as a greyed out broken photo icon . Why does it cause users to waste time editing files that are too large. How do I solve the problem?

Which method to use to separate out invoices from one large xml file

I will generate one massive invoice file , say , containgoin aout 200 invoices.
However, I would like them to be produced as separate .pdf files instead of a singular pdf
Th eintention is to take each pdf and email it out to customers.

I found the chapter on bursting in another User Guide .
But since I have not worked with java ( classes), I am not sure where to place the separate code units.
From user guide I understand that the following need to be done:-
1. Write up a control file
2. Write up another little class , which will use DocumenTProcessor class and registerListener method.

Trying to Batch-Export Several .dv clips from one large .dv file

I'm having trouble cutting up and exporting discrete clips from larger .dv files; either it doesn't cut in the right place (weird parts of the file get glommed together), loses its audio, compresses and loses information, etc.
I'd really like to be able to cut up each file into specific clips and export them all at once (the files are roughly 13GB each), but so far everything I've tried has led to disaster, and all of the exported files are converted to .mov

The bottom line here is that if your .dv files are in FCP they are no longer . dv files.
I know that may sound heretical so some, but stay with me for a second.
Final cut will simply not edit .dv in its native state any more than it will AVCHD. What happens instead is that FCP IGNORES the audio portion of the DV stream and rewrites its own audio (32 bit float mind you, which is not the most efficient use of disc space)
Now you have a DV NTSC sequence but as far as FCP is concerned that means a .MOV shell containing video + audio. THAT is now the native state. The video has not been re-compressed yet but is still no longer experiencing life as a .dv file.
That's the first reality that you need to accept.
Next, if you do decide to export from FCP to the .dv codec I'm pretty certain that at THAT point you'll be re-compressing your video footage. So, Ironically, in an attempt to avoid generational loss by insisting that the new clips be ".dv" you actually could be making things worse.
The ONLY application in the universe that I'm aware of that will do what you're trying to do is iMovieHD 06. That application had destructive style file functionality that let you trash media that had been trimmed while still maintaining the original file directory.
Personally, I think it's incumbent upon you to inform "your boss" that his abstract idea about maintaining this media within FCP as .dv is simply fantasy.
Or continue to tell the emperor that his new clothes are beautiful !

Playing hdv files after capturing

hello~~
i'm capturing hdv files from my sony v1u and when i try to play them in the sequence they come out as unrendered. Are all hdv files suppose to be rendered before playback? I would really appreciate the help.

Its likely that you have incorrect sequence settings. Your G5 should be able to playback HDV without rendering.
To change your settings highlight your sequence within your browser window in FCP. Next hit the "Apple button" + "Zero" (the apple button and 0 is the shortcut key combination for sequence settings - you can also "control" click on your sequence or right click if you have a right click button and choose "Sequence setting").
Once inside sequence settings look at the bottom left of the dialog box. You will see a button that says "Load Sequence Preset." click that and inside there FCP will ask you what type of setting you want to change to - select your brand of HDV (i.e. 720p or 1080i) and click ok.
Now re-import your media to the timeline sequence and you should be ready to rumble.

One large photo file?

I think I read this somewhere that iphoto8 now puts all the photos into one file rather than into finder folders. Is this correct? as it makes backup a bear. I hope not.

FYI: LaCie's free backup application, SilverKeeper, also sees the iPhoto library as a folder and can do incremental backups.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

Large ETLTraces files after Exchange 2013 CU6

After installing Exchange 2013 CU6, you may notice the Exchange Drive is consumed a lot than before and the size is increasing rapidly. After troubleshooting, you may find everything is running properly and
there is no issues with your Exchange Server.
Then you need to check whether the files in the following location is the root cause:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V15\Bin\Search\Ceres\Diagnostics\logfie
C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V15\Bin\Search\Ceres\Diagnostics\ETLTraces
(You may find log files like “DocumentProcessingTrace_XX.etl )
Prior to CU6, there is not ETLTrace folder listed in this location and there are log folders however the log file has files no exceeding 7 MB size.
Post upgrade, there comes the ETLTrace folder and the files in this folder are close to 50 MB and the log files folder have log files exceeding 50 MB size.
This is a designed behavior in Exchange CU6, if you have limited hard drive space, as a workaround solution, we can safely remove or move the location of these lo files:
Before doing the changes, please firstly stop the health monitoring service. To Change the Log File Path, the Registry Key value is:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Search Foundation for Exchange\Diagnostics
To Change the ETLTrace path the registry Value is:

@Simon_Wu, I tried your solution. However after a couple of days the logs were moved back to the original, default location. It looks like the server has a process which checks for hacks and undoes any attempts to change the path.
Interestingly the altered Registry entries remained altered, however the files were switched back to the default location. It generates just over 1Gb of logs per day on a largely idling Exchange 2013 CU7 server with 350 mailboxes.
Go figure!
What I found to work consistently and reliably is to replace default folders with junction points to another folder on another drive.
I also found that these files are created by a process which runs under the System process (PID 4), therefore you'll need to restart the server in Safe Mode to replace the default folders with junction points.

How would you do this? CD tracks from one large audio file

I just recorded in a live concert into Soundtrack Pro. The file was recorded at 16bit & 44.1KHz. I want to make a CD of this without any gaps. I am curious how to put in markers/CD tracks so that I can jump to each song.
Anyone know of a way to do this without breaking all the audio up into individual files?

Afaik, there's no way to do it in STP without doing independent audio files for each track. In theory, you could create an audio file for each track, don't have any space between each track and burn your CD DAO (Disk-At-Once) and everything should be fine. However, I'd rather have one long file and just put markers where you want the track indexes. If you have Waveburner, you can do this with it. If you don't, Peak can do this as well but my new favorite software for that job is Wave Editor:

Large pdf file after editing

Hi-
I recently scanned catalogs for a website I manage to make
them available on line. The company owner indicated he needed some
material removed from each page so I brought each page into
PhotoShop, cloned out the material and re-saved each page as a pfd
and reassembled each catalog in Acrobat.
Problem is, the new file sizes are huge! One catalog went
from 5.7 megs to 160.5! I've tired to the pdf optimizer to no
avail. Any Ideas?

Workflow Question w.r.t. one large WMV file....

Hi.. (noob question)
I have a 1 hour WMV file that needs to be edited. I successfully import the video using the flip4mac qt plugin.
What is the work flow best practice for editing a file like this?
My first thought was to drag the complete file into the timeline and start chopping it up because I can take advantage of the graphical timeline (video and audio) and make my edits. But it comes in un-rendered.
My next thought is to render the whole thing but that will take time.
I am now thinking that I can bring it into the viewer window and then make multiple IN/OUT points and then bring them into the canvas/timeline, but again, they are un-rendered.
Also, It would be good to be able to graphically see the viewer video/audio timeline like I do the canvas... how do I do that?
Can you point me to the proper place in the doc or within this forum or just your own experience?

Well I was just adding onto Jim's response...
But if we take it back to the beginning - you'll likely need to transcode your original WMV to something that is more "FCP friendly". Something like DV, DVCPRO50, ProRes, whatever is best for your needs. You'll need to make that decision.
To get there: you could open the original WMV in QT, or Compressor and transcode it. Be sure to change the audio to 48K. Drop this newly created movie into FCP and edit away. Then when you're done, if you need to create another WMV, I'd spit out a self-contained QT movie with the same settings as your sequence. Then drop this final output back into Compressor to make the deliverable WMV.
My original point was simply that the "full" version of flip4mac makes the WMV export settings available inside Compressor.

If you are looking for "sub-events" that is not a feature of iPhoto
you can use albums and folders - albums hold photos and folders hold albums or other folders

How to Play one Cap (swf) file after another?

I am going nuts trying to get the "Open URL or File" to work
at the end of my presentation!! Basically, I have a 17 step demo.
Each step is a seperate Captive file and are published as seperate
swf files. What I want is at the end of "Step1" is for "Step 2" to
be called up and played. So that all 17 steps will run continuously
WITHIN the same player. Right now, what it is doing is at the end
of Step 1, it calls Step 2 - but it tries to open it in a web
browser! I just want it to open and play in the same spot the first
step played. The reason I need each step seperate is because I also
have a menu I designed in Flash that calls each file seperately if
desired.
Any help will be greatly appreciated!!!

What I am going to tell you might not make sense, but please
beleive me, it works!!
At the end of "Step 1" do NOT "Open URL or file", rather
select "Open other project" and point to the "Step 2" Captivate
project file, yes, I do mean the .cp file.
Now do the same with all your other files.
Final point is to make sure that ALL the published files are
lying in the same directory.
Please try this before you question the sanity. Captivate was
built to operate in this manner.
