HDV material captured using FCP - need to import it into Avid Xpress Pro

Any way to do that and stay HDV??

Well, only Xpress Pro on Windows does HDV. I've been editing Avid SD footage in FCP by exporting QT Ref Movies from Avid (quick) so maybe it'll work the other way . . . if you have a PC.

  • Importing subtitles into DVD Studio Pro 4 that were created FCP Studio 6

    Greetings!
So in all the DVD Studio Pro 4 documentation, I couldn't find any work flow that allowed you to create subtitles, via *Text or Boris 3D Titles* in Final Cut Pro Studio 6 and then export or import your work into DVD Studio Pro to be used in the subtitle fields... Is that possible?
After painstakingly entering in subtitles for a feature film line-by-line, timing them perfectly to picture and making them look beautiful with crisp-text & a slight drop-shadow... It would be wonderful to import those files (as graphics files? DVD Studio Pro can import those...) in our DVD for release, with optional subtitles-- Instead of making/encoding 2 versions; with & without subtitles.
What is the best way to export these files, created for the film subtitling in *Text or Boris 3D Titles* so that we can import them into DVD Studio Pro 4 subtitle tracks... Could they be exported with an Alpha Channel so that the background is transparent? And will this then be excepted into DVD Studio Pro 4 to be placed in the subtitle fields?
Please help us conquer this seemingly-necessary procedure... I would really hate to think that to achieve this task we'd have to re-enter, re-design & re-time ALL subtitles to make our DVD... All of your suggestions would be most appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Jason

OK-- I love that I've found a way to answer my own question on this forum (but actually I must credit my buddy James for finding out about 'TitleExchange Pro') It looks pretty cool and should do exactly what I've asked about: Exporting/ Importing subtitles made in FCP to DVD SP...
TitleExchange Pro is a unique tool which makes complicated things simple.
If you ever wished to get your titles out of FCP into DVDSP (or another DVD authoring application), get titles into FCP from another source like DVDSP or STL, or ceate a QT with all your FCP subtitles without the need of rendering (and get automatic selection of language) or just "equalize" your FCP titles TEP will be the right tool.
There's a slight catch but it might be worth it, if this works as well as it states...Cost 135 EUR:) You can download a limited demo version that works for 30 days & 50 titles...If anyone wants to give their feedback on this software, please post it here-- We'd all be interested.
Download & more information about this process at: http://www.spherico.de/filmtools/TitleExchange/
Also, check out this video tutorial on the product... It explains exactly how to do the task-at-hand... http://www.studiodaily.com/main/minisites/finalcutpro/f/mtutorials/6851.html
Hope this finds you all well--
    Peace,

  • How stable is FCP 5 in comparison to Avid Xpress Pro?

I've been using Avid Xpress Pro on a brand new PC, and it hasn't been going well (problems with the preroll, etc.). I've been using a Sony DV camera as a deck to import the footage. Does FCP have any of these problems? It seems the Avid forum is rife with preroll problems.
    Thanks.

Attempting to cure a preroll issue by changing computing platforms is not recommended. You may or may not like FCP at all. You might not like Macintosh at all.
Stability is relative. Are you saying Avid crashes on prerolls? That's absurd for a video editing application to do that and, no, FCP doesn't do that. But we have tons of recent reports of FCP crashing for other reasons. A quick search of the forum for CRASH or QUIT and AVID will disclose tons of interesting issues.

  • Need to import .swf into Flash 8 project

I'm working on a project that requires me to use an already
made .swf file in it. I'm creating the whole project (which is a
presentation) strictly in Flash 8. This project requires a user to
be able to navigate through various menus and categories to see
what's in them. Most of the categories have a slide-show of images
that are accompanied by a voice over sound track that explains to
them what they're watching; however, for other categories I already
have a previously created .swf file that I need to import into
Flash 8. The issue that I've noticed when I just import the .swf
file into Flash is that the file plays at about 100x the original
speed. I think that it is because Flash looks at this file as one
frame and tried to play everything all at once. I also looked into
the possibility of trying to the loadMovie() function, but that is
not that convenient for me because this requires me to decompile
the .swf file into .fla and edit it so that a user has a way of
coming back to the main menu of the presentation from that movie,
unless there is a function parameter of loadMovie() similar to
HTML's "_blank" where a new window opens so that the user can close
this window without having to worry about restarting the
presentation. I hope that what I'm doing is clear, and I'm very
much open to any suggestions about what I should do about it or any
other ways of doing what I'm trying to achieve, which is to be able
to play already-made .swf files in my Flash project. To give more
details on these .swf files, they were originally created in Adobe
Captivate and exported into .swf. They play perfectly when you play
them, but it's just that there is an issue when I try to play them
from my Flash project. Thank you in advance for your help.

    Hi Braulio
a good tutorial site can be found at
    http://www.kirupa.com
and also, look in your Flash Docs, for loadClip() and
loavMovie() methods. They should get you started on some ideas to
    import external content.

  • Need to import VIDEO_TS into iMovie and I cant do it.

I have several discs with clips on them that I need to import into iMovie to edit all together, I can not seem to do it. On one disc for example is a Video_ts folder and in the file are .bup .ifo .vob I dont know if these are the clips, if so how do I get iMovie to recongnize them? Please Help!
    j

This sounds like videos that are actually DVD videos.
It's possible that they were copied from a DVD onto another disk, but the layout you describe is a DVD format.
You need a program that can convert these into QuickTime format.
I have used a program called DVDxDV to convert DVD videos that I made back into QuickTime format.
This program, will automatically extract the audio and video into clips that are sized and formatted for importing into iMovie.
iMovie not only has a file size limit, but also time duration (length) that each file must be under.
So, it needs to be the right file format, right length of time (shorted than 8 minutes), and less than 2 GB in size.
This program automatically does all that for you. If the video segment is longer than the requirements, then it creates multiple files that you can drag and drop into iMovie.
It is available in a trial version for you to experiment with.
Once you find that it does what you want, they offer a variety of packages that you can purchase. I went with the $25 level, and that worked fine for me.

    Hope this helps.

  • Aperture/iPhoto - Use Unified Library or import iPhoto into Aperture?

So as it is June 30th, I've been forced into upgrading to Lion.  Now I know I can take advantage of the Aperture/iPhoto unified library structure.
    But should I?
I am new to Aperture and use it for photos starting in January 2012 going forward.  I have already upgraded to Aperture 3.3.  I am still currently running iPhoto 8.1.2  for photos from 2011 and earlier.  My plan was to eventually import my iPhoto library into Aperture.  Now it appears I don't have to.
So I'm standing at a crossroads and I'd like feedback.  I have read some of the discussions where folks are having issues with migration with both avenues so I'd like to know which one makes more sense.
Should I upgrade to iPhoto 9.3?  Should I keep each library separate?  Should I merge?  Should I import iPhoto into Aperture still and have one library going forward?
Looking for folks with some experience to give me guidance!
    Thanks in advance!
    Chrystal in TX

Merge them.  When you upgrade to iPhoto 9.3 and Aperture 3.3 the programs use the same library format... you can open it in either one.
Note people rarely post feedback about something if it's working for them, so results will always be skewed toward the negative online.  Still, it makes sense to have a backup before upgrading, as a general best practice.

  • Importing SWF into Final Cut Pro with no Background

    Hi Everyone:
I've created an animated macromedia .swf file and imported
into Final Cut Pro successfully just as an .swf file. I can see the
.swf file animate in Final Cut Pro, the only problem is there is a
white background along with my animation. I've seen many slighly
related threads to this problem, but no end solution or work
around. any help? here's what i've seen in posts and other forums:
    - create another layer below your object and place a
tranparent color swatch box the size of your stage size
    - export the flash file as .mov with an alpha channel
    transparency
    - export the flash file as a .mov with an alpha channel, then
open in quicktime pro, then re export again as a quicktime movie
    with the "Millions +" option.
    - i've also heard something about having the right codecs, or
purchasing some other 3rd part software.
none of these approaches have worked for me. My Dream would
be to just import the .swf file straight into Final Cut Pro. I've
been exporting my flash movies as a png sequence and importing
every image into FCP for the time being. I'm also thinking about
just making the background bright green, because i think i just
chroma key it out, but i'm not sure how clean this will be.
    here's the related thread:

    Thanks for any help.

You need one of these: http://desktop.thomsongrassvalley.com/products/videoconversion.php to do it properly. The ADVC 300 is the best option for the money.

  • I imported M2T into CS4 Premier Pro on Mac OSX Snow Leopard does not play

I imported several M2T files into CS4 Premier Pro on Mac OSX Snow Leopard, the files import just fine and when I double click on them, I see the video in the preview panel. However when I hit play, nothing happens. It does not play, just sits on the first frame. Even when I drop it into the timeline, same thing happens. Does not play but if I export what I put into the timeline, the video exported is fine. So I can't edit it, because I cant see where to put edit points. I really need help, need to get this project done asap.

I have fixed this problem myself by searching the forum with argument "playback" "playback_issue". This a known problem. Go to link for a solution http://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/kb/playback-stops-loops-soundbooth-premiere.html
    Thanks to myself.

  • Audio lost when importing MPEGs into Final Cut Pro

When I import MPEG files into Final Cut Pro 4.5 the audio disappears. When I play the clips in Quicktime the audio and video are present, after I import only the video is present. I have tried adjusting the sequence presets for MPEG, but that has not helped. Any advice? Thanks!!

  • Why does FCP X chop import files into tiny clips?

When I import from my mini DV camcorder or my mini DV videodeck, the video is chopped up into hundreds or thousands of small files, some shorter than 1 second in length. This happens on all tapes I try to use, and all tapes have continuous time codes. When I simply play the video (using the space bar or  the 'j,k,l' keys) from either the camcorder or videodeck, the video is seen to play smoothly in the import monitoring window. But as soon as I click 'import', the video display is very rough and cuts out frequently, sometimes with audio pops, even though there is no sound recorded with the video. I have tried saving the video to a video archive, but when I import the archive into FCP X, the same problem of hundreds of small files recurs. I have tried deleting my FCP preferences and restarting, but nothing helps. This makes importing usable files very problematic. Even if I save the files as a compound clip, some of the little mini-clips have not imported properly and can't be used, which creates little blank spaces in the output video. This problem did not exist using the same mini DV video equipment and the Log and Capture window in FCP 7 and it should not be occurring in FCP X. It's as if Apple has engineered FCP to be too tight around video clips which may have a tiny time code problem. The problem seems to be getting worse, since now a 1 hour videotape results in over 1,500 individual clips.
I am using a Mac Pro tower, OS X 19.7.4, recording to a 2 disc RAID array with 2.6 TB free space available.

I've given up with Final Cut X. For the beginner it may be an easy way to learn to edit video but it is far removed from the professional editors such as Mediacomposer, Finalcut Pro, Premier Pro etc, that we were hoping it could grow towards in the future.
I know that Apple decided they wanted to deal only with the consumer and created an enormous backlash from the broadcast TV community who had invested in Macs and FCP but I would have expected the application to have been tested properly with all versions of the OS. Apple afterall have full control of the platform unlike any other software developer.
What greatly disappoints me though is to come to this app and to immediately find a problem with it. I can only assume this has been broken by Mountain Lion as it did work briefly under Lion.
So, back to Final Cut Pro, which incidently ingested all the clips that failed under FC X without issue.
    Richard.

  • Need help importing files into Dreamweaver CS5.5

    Greetings,
Currently I have website that is hosted on GoDaddy.com http://www.4thdist.org/home.php  . This site was created by another person that is not available to help with my problem. I am attempting to modify or edit this website using Dreamweaver CS5.5 and having difficulties loading the files into Dreamweaver.
First, using Filezilla I downloaded all the files and folders to my PC. At this point, I am stuck and cannot figure out how to upload or open the files and really need some advice. I read the Adobe help section on "importing" and it describes a .ste file. I searched the download folder and cannot find any file (*.ste)
I am hoping to salvage the site and not have to reinvent the wheel and start over. Any advice would be extrmely helpful........Gary

    Thanks for the quick reply.
Your comments raised some new questions. Let me update all on where I am. First, I am able to connect to GoDaddy server via the the local and remote views in the bottom right corner of DW. I see the file folder structure on GoDaddy. I can also see the file structure on my local hardrive that I copied using filezilla. Although, using the server connection I notice that I can download the files using this connection now. Should I delete what I did via filezilla and start over using the romote server connection? One more problem. I have content for two (2) websites on the remote server. http://www.vfwstatepoolleague.org/ This is in addition to the listed in my original post. Although, it appears the other website content is in a seperate folder. I assume that I will need to separtate this content somehow. At least link to it when I begin to start to create a .ste file for each site.
I started to read the article "Creating your first website"in your post and should be very helpful. I did run into a little road block.
I created (2) site names and linked to the appropriate folder on my hard drive. Although, I do not have: "check_cs5" folder on my local or remote folder. What does that mean? Should I create one?

  • Can I export 8i data using 10g client to import it into 10g

    Dear All,
I have 8i databae and want to import few of its data in 10g.
Can I do it and how?
I tried to export using 10g client but not worked.
    Aqeel Nawaz

    Hello,
You should export the data of the 8i database using the *8i* export utility.
Then, you import the generated dump to the 10g database with the *10g* import utility.
Else, you may care of the character set so as to avoid conversion.
Sorry Azar, I didn't see that you answered already.
    Hope this help.
