HDV out of sync

I recently purchased a Canon XHA1 video camera. I use FCE HD 3.5 to edit video. I always seem to have to add, or subtract, 18-Frames from the video clip so it can sync properly with the audio. Is there something I'm doing wrong that FCE HD just does not capture from camera to FCE HD to sync properly?

Hey,
I didn't try HDVSplit.  When I read about the program, I thought that it was suitable for Sony only.  I'll go back to check that out.
For the time being, I identified the clips that were out of sync and I moved each audio track over 4 frames.  Initially, I interpretted the files at 24fps instead of 23.9... but that doesn't correct the problem if you clip goes out of sync exponentially.
My HP has a Cyberlink PowerDirector software that I wanted to try but I didn't want to pay for another program without knowing if it works.  I have the basic version but you can upgrade to HDV.  Maybe that will be beneficial for capture.  Anyone used it before?
Again I have the JVC GY 200UB and
an HP Pavilion dv7
6mb
ATI Radeon
Intel Core 2 Quad CPU q9000 2.0 Ghz
Prior to purchase and as of late, I've read about the 3.4ghz req for HDV.  I get mixed comments on whether a 2 Quad processor handles HDV well in that situation.  Can this be what is creating so many problems?  3.4 seems to be quite high even for a desktop.

  • HDV out of sync in DVD

I have an HDV Pal Project that plays fines on my computer, but when we burn it to DVD, it slips out of sync randomly.
    Details...
We captured the HDV material through the camera (Sony Zu1), onto a Lacie firewire 400 drive on a Dual 1.0 G4 (1 gig of Ram). Editng went fine. We upgraded to a Dual 1.8 G5 and used the Lacie through the firewire 800 port.
I exprort the 2 hour sequence as a QT movie from FCP and then move it into compressor. All I check is Bottom (for field order) and make the audio an AC3 file.
I then build the project in DVD SP and then burn it in Toast 7.01 with Taiyo Yuden discs.
When I play the DVD, after an hour or so , it will go a few seconds out of sync and then within 10 seconds, slip back into sync (and repeats randomly). If I go to another DVD player, it may or may not happen. In my DVD player (all of my DVD players are modern PAL DVD players) if it goes out of sync, I stop the disc and then start it back at the same point, and it will be in sync.
    ANy thoughts
    Final Cut Studio 5
    Dual 1.8 G5, 2 gigs RAM, OS 10.4.6
Lacie 500 gig Firewire 400/800 drive
2 Seqeuences of 2 hours each

Try opening the project file on the G5, and export the finished sequence using File/Export/Using Compressor... use one of the stock presets... then burn the DVD in DVD SP using the resulting MPEG files.

  • IMovie: I uploaded HDV video from a Canon HV20 and then to YouTube. The video and the audio are out of sync. The audio seems to precede the video by a tiny bit which is disconcerting. Any recommendations about how to correct this? Thank you.

I downloaded video via iMovie from my Canon HV20. The video was in HDV. I then published it to YouTube and Vimeo and in both cases, the audio is out of sync: the video precedes the audio by a fraction of a second. The original is fine as viewed in the camera.
Any suggestions as to why and how to correct it?
    Thank you,
    David

  • HDV clips out of sync in viewer window and timeline. (Final Cut 5)

Hey there, just new to HDV and already hitting problems. On all my clips the video and audio are out of sync in final cut (watching them back on quicktime they're fine) when I view them and then once they've been rendered on the time line.
I've changed the settings on the project and sequences to match the clips, but its helped none.
Anyone have any ideas? Any you have would be much appreciated, thanks.

  • Red frames and sound out of sync in HDV

I'm fairly new to capturing HDV. I'm trying to capture from a Sony A1E into PPCS6. I'm choosing capture format HDV and Preset HDV 1080i25 (50i). I'm in England on the PAL system.
I'm able to capture, but the resulting footage always has the sound a good few frames out of sync. This can of course easily be dealt with. But more worryingly, I frequently get 1 or 2 or 3 frames of solid bold red. Clearly something is not right. Can anyone please advise? I'm about to do a big project which will entail digitising about six hours of footage, so I do need to get on top of this. Thanks.

The dropped frames can result from bad tape,
dirty or misaligned heads in the deck, etc.
Could anyone possibly be kind enough to run quickly through the settings that I should be using on both camera and project?

  • HDV capture audio out of sync

I'm having some problems with some captured HDV footage. After a while, the video footage gets out of sync with the audio.
Premiere reports some error in the mpeg stream and inserted some red frames when importing the avi. After these red frames, the audio sync problems show up. Is there any way to fix the avi file? I can't recapture the tapes as they are not around anymore. It might have been a tape problem that caused the error in the first place.
What programs are recommended for fixing avi?

I have had the same problem recently and I definitely chase it back to the HDV tapes (I recaptured and at the same spot the problem occured).  I had to carefully cut the bad frames and then resync the audio.  I am wondering if Sony had a bad batch of tape.  I have another batch now an will be conducting some tests to see if it is tape or cameras (had it happen on two different cameras in a two camera shoot--what an editing nightmare!  Fortunately I always had one good track to cover and be able to resyc the other one.

  • Sony HDR-HC3 1080i imports out of sync to iMovie

My old DV camcorder imported into iMovie 6.0.2 just fine. Have just bought the new SONY HDR-HC3E HDV handycam - component set to 1080i/576i and HDV/DV converter set to off.
Created new iMovie project and selected video format HD 1080i. iMovie sees the camera okay but when i press play control or import control, iMovie tells me it is previewing or importing iMovie content at 1/2 or 3/4 speed. Picture in iMovie window is clearly moving slower than picture on camcorder screen. When i press pause or stop and review clip that has been imported into iMovie it plays back with the sound out of sync. Can anyone suggest what I'm doing wrong?
    Thanks

    Hi kosmo
    Most obvious thought.
    - is Your Camera set to 12-bit sound or does it have LP/EP mode (long/extended) that
records more minutes on a standard tape than normal play.
    - should be 16-bit sound and SP (standard play) mode.
If this is relevant to Your situation !

  • Dropped frames or out-of-sync audio

Using Sony HDR-FX1 and FCE-HD is set to DV-NTSC. I've also tried DV-NTSC Firewire Basic. I've been trying various suggestions I've found in the Discussions to cure dropped frames that prevent me from capturing and out-of-sync audio making footage I do capture useless. Mac is running 10.4 with 5.5 GB of RAM and dual 2 GHz G5.
I'm capturing to my main hard drive which has plenty of space - when I'm done editing, I archive old footage on an external drive.
"Abort capture on dropped frames" is currently checked. Lately, this means I can't get more than a few seconds without the capture stopping. This never used to happen, now it happens all the time no matter what tapes I'm capturing from.
If I uncheck it, the audio on the captured footage is out of sync. Over time, as I've been trying to trouble shoot this using the Discussions, my projects remain unfinished and deadlines are looming sooner and sooner.
If someonce could please help me I'd be very grateful.

    Hi(Bonjour)!
Did you shoot in DV or HDV ?
Did you try to capture HDV with Apple Intermediate Codec 1080i60 (or 50 for europe)?
Does you downconvert HDV shooted to DV upon capturing from camcorder ?
DV-NTSC 48 kHz is the way to go with downconverted material.
Does your DV audio setting is 16 bit on FX1 ? (HDV is a fixed one).

  • Audio and video out of sync when using quicktime conversion

    hello,
i am editing a hdv project and want to export to quicktime. the client needs it in a specific size (700x394). they do not want the video in the file compressed, just the size of image. they are compressing the video through flash for the web. anyways, i used to just use quicktime conversion, custom size and use 700x394, but now when i do that the audio and video are sparadically out of sync in the product. the wierd thing is that the project plays fine in the timeline, but when i export the problem occours. i then, exported to a full res fcp movie and it is fine. then tired reexporting through qt pro to 700x394. when i did this their were no sync issues but the quality of the file was not so good, it look more pixely, certainly not as good as when i did it using quicktime conversion.
how can i export through fcp to get the 700x394 file? someone said 'use current settings' instead of using quicktime conversion? how do i do this? what do i need to do and what are my settings?
any help is appreciated. thanks a ton in advance.
    cheers,
    clay

What format are you converting the HDV to?
If it's animation, it is quite possible your computer can't pull the data rate. In this case it would be a processor / hard drive issue not an out of sync issue.

  • Audio and video out of sync on capture

I have been using the Canon HV20 and MacBook Pro for about a year now with no problems and for the first time today on capture the audio and video are out of sync. I have been using an external LaCie for capture and stoage but even using the internal HD, the same problem is occurring. I checked my preferences in FCE and used the disc utility to make sure my HD had no permission problems. I am not dropping any frames on capture. What do I do next to correct?

Hi - Thanks for you response.
It's a Canon XH A1 which is an HDV camera. As far as output is concerned when I play the camera it says HDV 24 and the sound is 16KB.

  • Audio and video out of sync after capture from Canon

Help for a newbie please?  I have a Canon XHA1S and have a problem after capturing HD video.  After capturing a 40 minute clip, the  audio and video are out of sync.  Seems like there is about a 3 second difference.  The entire clip is like that in the source window; I made a couple of quick edits and have the same problem in the program window.  Tried exiting and re-opening PP, but that didn't help.  I'm running PP in CS6 on an iMac 3.4 GHz i7 with 8G of ram.  Thanks!

I have NOT used it, but many say to try this for HDV capture http://strony.aster.pl/paviko/hdvsplit.htm

  • Dealing with dropped frames and out of sync audio

    Hi!
I'm using Final Cut Studio 3 and I'm trying to record some video from a pretty old MiniDV-camera. The problem is that a have some dropped frames and when I record the whole thing it gets out of sync.
By default Final Cut aborts the capture (without saving) when it finds dropped frames. That won't work for me. I start recording, it records a couple of minutes and then it just aborts without saving anything.
I tried to record the entire tape when using the option of not aborting on dropped frames. I recorded the entire video but not it gets more and more out of sync later and later in the video.
So, do you have any suggestions on how to deal with this? Maybe I can use an external application for this cause I haven't found a way to deal with this in Final cut.
    Best
    Felix

  • Print to Video out of sync

    More PTV problems.
Ok, I've gotten the video and audio to appear on the deck, and record, but the video and audio are wildly out of sync, maybe at least a few seconds.

Well, I found the answer to this question from help at (credit where credit is due) Ken Stone's excellent FCP Discussion, and at lafcpug's great Café LA, where they've apparently been specializing in HDV work lately.
So here's the solution -- well, at least to the sync issue. The connectivity issue still has me scratching my head
Derek at lafcpug suggested that I shouldn't be doing a PTV directly from the timeline, but rather export full quality video first, and then PTV that from a new project.
Well, that didn't solve the issue, but led to the solving of it -- not to mention teaching me a good technique for doing a PTV.
The solution turned out to be under A/V Settings-->A/V Devices. I decided when running Derek's test, using the exported QT file, to turn off the "Mirror video on desktop" option. Voila -- perfect sync at the deck.
I decided to test whether it was the QT export or the mirror option which had fixed the sync issue by going back to the original cut sequence in the timeline and doing the PTV directly from there. Again, it worked.
It looks like my machine just can't handle doing both. I wonder if any others out there can try to reproduce the issue?
    All My Best,
    Jeffrey

  • Audio out of sync on source file

So I've captured 4 tapes from an event. The 1st two tapes captured produced a quicktime file with the audio out of sync. The last two tapes are fine. The sample rates match both the capture settings and sequence settings and "make new clip on timecode break" is turned on. "Abort capture on dropped frame" was left off.
I set up a new scratch disk after already capturing all the footage. I moved everything (render files, capture scratch, audio render, etc.) from one folder to another. I had suspected this being the problem until realizing the problem was not only on the timeline, but also on the source files opening in quicktime player.
I've done searches and everything, but cant seem to find anything helpful. Could dropped frames be doing this?
    ~ Jim

First, scroll to the right in your browser and make sure the audio 'format' is 48.0kHz...just to check.
What is your media source...DV, HDV, DVCPro...etc?
Is the sync issue a consistent amount, or does it fall further out of sync over time?
If there were timecode breaks or any other reason that caused the capture to 'drop frames', then chances are your setting for 'make new clip on timecode break' is the culprit. FCP will continue to capture beyond the break, but with improper TC.
If the sync just goes further out of sync over time, then it could be the audio was captured at 47.998 or 48.002. This can usually be fixed by 'Exporting as aiff - 48khz/16bit.
Drifting out of sync can be an issue with long captures as well. Might consider breaking captures down to 20 minute chunks.
    Post back with info/answers.
