I just found out I can't install my MXP extensions

I really would like to wrtie something useful and meaningful, and maybe even ask a question or two. But I apologize in advance if it just turns out to be a rant. There's a bigger picture here, and that involves the overall direction the internet has taken in the last few years. Ok, I do have a question, but let me rant just a little first.
I recently went from CS4 to Creative Cloud. Inbetween, I tried out a few trial versions of CS products, and all was fine with my extensions. I now have several CC apps installed, time to start working again, only to find out the whole MXP issue. It didn't take long to find out what I have to do, so that shoulnd't be a problem. But then again, I won't know for sure until I actually attempt converting and installling the extensions.
This practice of updating and upgrading that force us into additional purchases - both hardware and software is just out of control. It's all under the guide of providing a better overall experience, and I can go along with that to a degree.
So the first question requires speculation - when it comes to this change to the new extension format - WHY?? And if there is a way to convert an MXP, why isn't that just built into the CC extension manager?
The second question is more philosophical. What is the correct attutude a developer supposed to adopt? I know that we have to use the tools we've been given, or find something else to do. But we don't really have any options, especially when it comes to web development, and especially for those who do rely on extensions.
It also used to be, just stay with the older version if upgrading is impractical or unaffordale. But that''s that even possible any more. CS4 has barely any support for HTML5, and without that, may as well hang it up.
I know I sound like just another complainer, and for now I am - but I'm just one small voice is a larger chorus. It used to be all about Microsoft. Now it's Adove, and, yes, even Apple are targets. I read te blogs ad forums, and I know I'm not alone. But with all those voices out there, nothing changes. Wait, that's not right - it does change - for the worse.
Part two of the second question - does anyone know of any issue that anyone of these big companies have responded to because of some sort of consumer or user activism, suggestions, anything other than legislation? I don't know of a single instance.

For the sake of clarity, I would like to mention that during my seeking and finding I've yet to find the specifics on why the file formates were changed, other than the ZXP format has the capability of including more features.
Also, while the major extension providers have upgraded their products to ZXP versions, some of them are paid upgrades and part of bundles, so it can get a little pricey. The extensions will convert successfully, but get the database error during install in EM CC. Even with that, they still show up in DW CC and function properly, except perhaps for one or two of the features. Hopefully, when I do purchase the compatbile extension, I"ll be able to install it, as the one I installed doesn't display in the EM and therefore doesn't provide a way to uninstall!
On the other side of the coin, I've converted some extensions, and installed them without a hitch, they show up in DW but just don't work at all.

Preview and Thumb image in MXP Upload

I've noticed that other content types allow users to upload a
Preview and a Thumbnail image when uploading their extensions. It
seems that this option is only unavailable to MXP extensions.
Is there any reason why we cannot upload these images with
MXPs also? It would be beneficial from a marketing standpoint, but
also from the perspective of understanding the extensions before
downloading.
I'm interested in learning why this feature has been removed.

If you are using a Container you just leave your image files in the home directory of your web application. And forget this idea about database. It´s not necessary in this case.
To display the images just use HTML, <img src="url">.

Extension Manager CC does not see .mxp

I can not open .mxp in Extension Manager CC on Mac OS 10.8.5. Extension Manager CC does not see files.

Extension Manager CC no longer supports mxp extensions which have some limitations and were deprecated in CS6. You have to use Extension Manager CS6 to convert mxp extensions to zxp extensions. There is a menu item for it. If you don't have Extension Manager CS6 installed, you can get it from http://www.adobe.com/exchange/em_download/em6_download.html .

FC - Open source, MXP's, Adobe Bridge?

Check after reseting the preferences of the bridge ,
Start Adobe Bridge and immediately press Ctrl+Alt+Shift (Windows) or Command+Option+Shift (Mac OS) until the Reset Settings dialog box appear or press the Ctrl+Alt+Shift (Windows) or Command+Option+Shift (Mac OS) and then luanch bridge.
Select all three options--Reset Preferences, Reset Standard Workspaces, and Purge Entire Thumbnail Cache--and then click OK
Also check in the new user account does it work for you

1700 MXP Video Format Unsupported

We are getting a "Video Format Unsupported" with our Cisco 1700 MXP. We are able to connect and conference with distant end, but they are not receiving our video and we also don't have a self view, screen is black. We have tried all of the video settings on the configuration menu. Is it possible that the camera went bad or a cable is disconnected, or could it be something more serious with the Codec? Unfortunately I'm not at the actual site where the Codec is located, but they told me thatt they have tried different format settings. Please advise. Thank you.

CUCM 7.1 sip to Tandberg MXP 3000

Hi All,
Does anybody have any pointers on getting a CUCM 7.1 cluster talking to a Tandberg MXP 3000 via SIP.
We have separate ISDN Bri for our Tandberg and want to get rid of them and pass voice only calls via call manager and a 2821 gateway router with 2 PRI's.
Any pointers would be real helpful.

yes you can
just setup a SIP trunk or H323 ICT trunk with the CUCM
and make sure you have the right setup in VCS and CUCM interns of SIP uri, or H323 ID
and in CUCM make sure you setup the right, regions/codec, locations, and CSS
also by using search rules and transformations in VCS you can control which call to send to CUCM ( for example on PSTN calls )
you can test it before you remove the existing PSTN lines ( recommended )

Is there a way to load a digital certificate for 802.1x authentication on MXP and C series codecs? I looked in the settings and command line input options, but I don't see a way to do client certificate authentication.

Adding/Installing MXP Theme file to Eclipse (without AEM)
Recently downloaded Adobe Flex (FlashBuilder 4 plugin LS10) for Eclipse, and going through some Tutorials where they want me to install a Theme to learn Styles.
They want me to install MXP file, but I cannot find where to. Every place on the web assumes you haev Adobe Extension Manager(AEM) installed, so I went and installed that, but even with that, it doesn't seem to find the Flex install (under eclipse) so won't allow me to install the Theme.
So how does one go about installing/adding a MXP file to Eclipse without the full Flex distribution (though with all the searching and talking/waiting for tech support - which they then directed me here) it probably would have been quicker to install the full dist.
But I figure I can't be the only one who would ask this so hopefully my pain will help someone in the future.

There is no shortcut known to me to to prevent a file from being copied to the 'iTunes Music' folder.
To add a file to the library, without copying it to the 'iTunes Music' folder, uncheck 'Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library' in Preferences>Advanced>General.
In the subject of this topic you are referring to 'importing', but from the contents of this topic, I presume you're only talking about 'adding'.
To understand the differences, read this article:
iTunes: About the Add to Library, Import, and Convert functions.
BTW: If you 'import' files, the files are always copied to the 'iTunes Music folder location' as set in the preferences, regardless of the status (checked/unchecked) of the checkbox of the 'Copy files to etc.......' setting.

Let me share my experience.
That Adobe Extension Manager CS4 was not working correctly for me.
System: Win XP Pro SP2, Adobe CS4 Master Collection. Flex Builder 3, SDK 3.4.1, Flex Component Kit 1.1.2, Adobe Extension Manager 2.1.112
In folder
C:\Documents and Settings\{username}\Local Settings\Application Data\Adobe
I haven both
Flash CS4 (current)
and
Flash CS3 (left with few files after uninstalling of CS3)
Apparently Extension manager put FlexComponentBase.swc to Flash CS3 folder. So I Removed CS3 folder and tried again.
Then I've also using Russian language (for non Unicode characters) while my default (keyboard bindings) is English. So Extension manager installing to ru folder and as result I can not see "Convert to Flex Component" in commands of Flash CS4. Simple copy of FlexComponentBase.swc to en folder (Adobe\Flash CS4\en\Configuration\Components) did not help.
So I set default language (for non unicode characters) in Regional setting of Windows CP to English. Reboot Xp.
Install Flex Component Kit again.
Finally it went to correct folder: C:\Documents and Settings\{username}\Local Settings\Application Data\Adobe\Flash CS4\en\Configuration\Components\Flex
Flash CS 4 shows now 2 new options : Convert symbol to Flex container, Convert symbol to Flex Component.

Cf8_tags_for_dw.mxp won't install

DW CS3 is closed and CF 8 is installed and running . When I
try to install cf8_tags_for_dw.mxp I get errors saying:
The file
'C:\DOCUME~\<MYNAME>\LOCALS~1\TEMP\CF8_DW9_Ext_Final_xmi\Content\Reference\CFML\<various
file names>' is missing. The extension will not be installed.
The files ARE there however. Does anyone have a clue as to
how to fix this?

Using MXP (package) files in Flex?

So, many of components and code libraries of different kinds and flavours get distributed in the lesser known MXP format, which many believe makes for "ideal" distribution. My problem is I am a skilled ActionScript/Flex/Flash developer who not always has access to a Windows box, and even if I have, I can't seem to find any valuable information on how to open/extract content in this format. The only thing I know is that it is obviously a drag-and-drop operation in Flash CS* to import and use these files, but most likely I will be using Flex. Is there any chance of using these files in Flex instead? I have to use several code libraries that are only distributed as those MXPs, which does not seem to be a very "open" format.

MXP files do not appear to be any variation of ZIP archive format.
I will be using whatever as long as I can make use of the component itself, which is packaged as an MXP. Inside this MXP there is an MXI file too. I do not have any control over the distribution format of this component, these are developed by another party. All I need it to make use of the component(s). If this involves opening the MXP, extracting the MXI, and getting an ActionScript or SWF bytecode out of it, fine. I really do not care much for the format, I just need my application to make use of the component itself.
Are there any tools that convert an MXP package to something less binary perhaps? Or something that Flex can use at least?
After all the component is the same bytecode that Flash Player uses anyway, compiled from either Flex or Adobe Flash.

Bundling Action in MXP File

Hello, I've created a Configurator panel containing a series of Photoshop actions. The Configurator panel loads successfully from the .MXP panel provided the Action Set is manually loaded through Photoshop. Otherwise, the panel attempts to run an action that doesn't exist.
In the Extension Panel documentation it shows I should be able to bundle the action with the MXI package and have it automatically installed in the correct location when the user installs the Extension. Unfortunately, I'm having difficulty getting this to work correctly. I'd love to be able to have the user install the Extension and have both the Configurator panel and the corresponding action loaded after Photoshop restarts.
The Extension Manager Help file specifies that packaged files need to have the <file> tag in the extension installation file. Do I need to add that in Configurator or in Extension manager. If it needs to take place in Extension manager, where do I add it? How do I specify a location to install the action on the installer's computer?
Would someone be able to help resolve these issues? I feel like I'm 80% of the way there, but the last 20% is a bit fuzzy.
