HE AAC stream compatibility

Is there a way to encode and stream HE AAC live in such a way that it is possible to play the stream both in the Flash Player and in other common players? Thank you very much in advance for any info or ideas!
/Chris

mine will play CD, mp3 and AAC, still wondering if HE-AAC will work.
You'll have to consult your player's documentation. Unless it says specifically that it will play HE-AAC, then it would be wise to assume that it won't.
HE-ACC uses far less space allowing more songs on each CD,
It does, because it's using a lower bit rate. You'd get the same file size with regular AAC if you used the same bit rate. E.G. if you encode at 64 kbps, the file size will be roughly half that of a 128 kbps file, regardless of which codec you use. But in theory at least HE-AAC will give you a better audio result at those lower bit rates than the "normal" AAC codec.
I would suggest that you confirm whether or not your players can handle HE-AAC. Very, very few (if any) do, so that may render the entire issue moot.
Regards.

I don't now much about audacious, but it uses libmad for mpeg audio, right?
Not sure how this is related to the original question, since AAC is not mp3.
I am not sure, but afaik there is no aacplus decoder for linux. HE-AAC is supported, which is the same thing quality wise, but the implementation is different. aacplus is a total failure and was doomed from the very beginning. Sad to see some people keep using it.
FAAD and FFmpeg handle it perfectly. That covers almost all players. The URL in the OP is playable through both.
Oh yeah, AAC is mpeg audio. It's mpeg4 layer 3 to be exact.

  • Aac+ streaming unstable on multiple apps

All mp3 streams sound fine, but aac+ streams are all jumpy and stuttery. I've tried multiple stations in both Tuner and WunderRadio. Doesn't matter if it's WiFi or less.
    Anyone else notice this?

Hey self, don't get discouraged because no one replied. Actually this is a known problem in the development community with version 2.1. aac+ choopiness cropped up in this version but was not present in 2.0.2. Hopefully Apple will address the problem.

  • Live AAC Streaming - Help!

I would like to stream live AAC to the Internet via Flash. I
have been told the new version of FMS (FMS3) will support it. But,
I have yet to find a live encoder! Flash Media Encoder 2 only
    supports MP3 and NellyMoser audio.
I will have linear PCM audio coming in via an audio card and
I want an encoder that will encode it live into AAC and get it to a
    FMS server.
I have yet to find anything. Help!

    d3lf66,
thanks... you mean that there will be another version of
Flash Media Encoder? (I am guessing V3). There is very little
information out there about any beta or any new version... very
    frustrating.
Or did you mean other 3rd party encoders that will also be
    coming out?
    thanks!

  • IPhone HE-AAC Streaming over Mobile Network (3G)

Developed an internet radio streamer using utilizing the html5 audio tags with jQuery and with a flash fall back for unsupported browsers, streaming through an icecast2 server. Upon testing the player on the iPhone Safari (iOS 5.0.1), we ran into a very peculiar issue.
When the iPhone is connected to WiFi, it streams perfectly using the HE-AAC V2 stream @ 64kbps 44.1kHz (the preferred codec for apple products). However, when the iPhone is connected to the 3G mobile network (ATT and Verizon), it "stutters/buffers" or stops streaming for 1-2 secs every 1-2 minutes (does not stop streaming completely). The troubling thing is when the iPhone is forced to use a separate MP3 stream at the same bit rate, it does not have this issue and works very well on 3G.

    Hi Lawrence,
Thanks for the fast response. I'm confused as to how AAC requires higher bandwidth over MP3 when it can produce higher quality audio at lower bit rates therefore requiring less bandwidth to stream over 3G. Are you referring to the bandwidth of the audio signal itself (at the codec level)?

  • Why doesn't iTunes support aac streaming??

My favorite internet radio station streams in AAC+ format, but not mp3, to save bandwidth, which is a worthwhile goal. Considering that Apple was the pioneer of AAC, does anyone have any idea why iTunes doesn't support streaming in either AAC or AAC+ as far as I can tell? It seems kind of silly.
I hope someone from Apple is reading this thread and will maybe add a vote for adding this obviously useful functionality...

Only Apple know, and they're not likely to address a question like this directly. "Not invented here" might have something to do with it.

  • AAC files from streaming audio????

Hi, my friend burned me a cd off an internet radio site, the songs were saved as .aac yet itunes won't let me import them nor will they play by clicking the file.
Could it be that these songs were copy protected in some way or is there a setting that will allow me to import aac files?
    thanks

These must be raw AAC streams. In other words, they aren't in a recognized MPEG-4 container. You would be able to fix this easily on a PC using foobar2000, but on a Mac you'll have more difficulty. I would suggest reading up on the subject using some Internet searches and looking for possible command line utilities at sites like rarewares.

  • ITunes and surround sound internet streams

    Hi all,
I'm looking to broadcast internet streams in surround sound and I want to select an audio codec which iTunes will play.
Does anyone know which surround audio codecs are supported for internet streaming?
    Best regards,
    Daren.

    Thanks for your reply Dave.
I had suspected that this was the case. I've been exprimenting with iTunes and haven't even been able to receive a stereo AAC stream. AAC and AAC+ only seem to be supported for files and not internet streams.
If anyone disagrees, please feel free to correct me.
Does anyone know if there are plans to support AAC and AAC+ in internet streams? ..and in particular for surround sound broadcasts?
    Best regards,

  • Sending iOS camera stream to FMS

I'm currently developing an app that requires video conferencing for iOS. I've used a fairly basic approach with Flex that streams the camera and microphone on H.264 with Speex to FMS. It does actually produce a stream but I pressume the quality is so increadibly bad because iOS does not officially support RTMP but instead requires HTTP Live Streaming (HLS). Thus I have a few questions because there is meant to be reasonable FMS support for iOS.
    1) Is it possible to convert the camera/mic stream directly to HLS in Flex?
    2) Is it possible to at least convert the audio stream to AAC where FMS can then do the work of converting the H.264/AAC stream with livepkgr to HLS for recieving on iOS.
    3) If not where should I look for information on streaming from iOS in general to FMS?
    Thanks

ffmpeg do a right job... generate meta data are valid. You
can try FLVMetaData injector for your meta but I think that your
problem come that your are not putting your flv in the stream
folder. You can specify stream folder and an alias in your
configuration files of FMS. If it's a video, in your code specifify
stream without .flv in the file name like this :
    aliasName/yourFileName

  • MPD won't play AAC files from Streamripper

I'm having some problems playing AAC files created by streamripper.  The files play just fine in Mplayer. This is the output I get in .mpd/log:
faad: error decoding AAC stream: Invalid number of channels
After googling I got the impression this might be a DRM issue.  I'm ripping a service I'm paying for (I only like about 80% of the music so I want to be able to skip tracks), so this seemed likely. On #mpd I was informed that mplayer wouldn't have played these files if they were DRM protected, so I've abandoned this line of investigation.
If I try to run one of these files through faad I get:
Error: Bitstream value not allowed by specification
    Is this fixable?

    arutemus wrote:
It seems you just need to rebuild your mdp package, because mpd supports AAC via ffmpeg but  new ffmpeg libs released yesteraday and you still have mpd built for old ffmpeg's libs.
Use ABS for this and if all will be ok then report bug.
I have the same problem from yesterday but with the moc  https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/31743
Doesn't the log message indicate that MPD uses faad to decode AAC file and not ffmpeg? A new version of MPD came right out after your post; it did not solve my problem.  For now I'm manually converting the files from AAC to ogg in order to play them, using the latest version of ffmpeg.

  • AE CS5 (v10.0.1.19) export as .h264 Streaming Problem

I already submitted this to Adobe as a bug but want to inform everybody about this issue.
If you export/render a file (Render Queue) as .h264 (mp4) and set under Output Module -> Format Options -> Multiplexer -> Stream Compatibility = Standard
you do not get a streaming file!
I tested this and I was not able to stream the file from an online webserver with a standard Flash video player.
If you want streaming files then use the Adobe Media Encoder CS5.
I tested it with the same file or After Effects composition and the same exact settings with Adobe Media Encoder CS5 and the resulting files stream perfectly from an online webserver!
So be aware of this issue...
I have to encode my 50 files again!
Just to clarify: when I am using the word streaming I mean I think it's called "progressive download" and not real streaming like flash media server would do.
If you want to try it yourself or for confirmation here are the steps to reproduce the bu
    ***BUG***
    1. Import a video file and drop it into a new composition of same size
    2. Add Composition to Render Queue
    3. Render Queue -> Output Module -> Format = .h264
    4. click on Render Queue -> Output Module -> Format Options
    5. set Multiplexer -> Stream Compatibility to Standard
    6. Render File
    7. Try to stream this file from an online web server
    8. Streaming this file is not possible. A Flash video player have to load the whole file before it can play it! File does not stream!
    ***Workaround***:
    1. render the same composition or video file with same settings with Adobe Media Encoder CS5
    2. This file streams perfectly! A Flash video player does not have to load the whole file before it can play it! Playing of the file starts immediately. File streams!
I hope this is somehow helpful for some users
    http://www.felixdames.de

I used AE for encoding because I have had a bunch of old video files (some are interlaced and needed a special deinterlace operation, some needed to get edited, some files were combined into one file....) for a redesign of my web page ...
So the easiest and fastest workflow was to use AE.
You are right with the 2 pass encoding... but I usually only use 1 pass encoding because it's much faster to encode and the difference in terms of file size and quality is not that much...
I only posted this issue here for users (like me) who think that it is possible to export .h264 files for streaming purpose out of AE but as this test shows to me AE is not a good choice if you need the files for streaming.
If you don't care about the streaming.... the files from AE look as good as when encoded with Adobe Media Encoder.
My workaround was to save every AE project to disk and then I imported the AE composition directly into Adobe Media Encoder CS5 via Dynamic Link.
    Worked great...

  • Audio streaming apps

Are there any streaming apps which allow you to input your own URL?
WunderRadio is one but does not appear to be stable on aac+ streams.

  • Zen 8GB. Nero AAC support? SD expansi

Does the 8GB version support the Nero AAC codec Either LC-AAC or HE-AAC
I've been doing some reading and only the iTunes codec works. Nero cannot be played back.
And what is the status on integrating SD cards into the 'memory' of the player Any planned firmware updates to add some real functionality to the SD slot Message Edited by MoreMiPlez on 2-9-200703:20 PM

Again.... first of all, your just another user who hides the file extension on your OS.
2nd, Nero Digital's encodes (and) muxes the AAC stream into an .mp4 "container"
3rd, Apple have that opportunity, but depending on how old whatever lol encoder hey have, they may mux the AAC stream into an .m4a (a stands for audio, v for video which is really obvious)
An .mp4 container (file/filetype for you average human/user) can handle both video/audio streams, alas .m4a only handles audio and vice versa.
Todays AAC listeners often use .mp4 since it works only multiple hardwares like cellphones (take SE's phones for example) or the PSP, or perhaps a PC (with the right OS and software of course)
.m4a/.m4v is something from the past that many already left (pre 2004!), but then again some still do tend to bring up the past, and why's that? That's cuz some still don't know the difference and that's why people always suffer from the consequences.
Some might learn from other's, but in this case, this forum-user helping whatever thing they have isn't really helping at all.
My cellphone (a k750i, 3 years old perhaps?) handles AAC streams muxed into .mp4 containers (now only defined as AAC tracks) they decoding may not be the best, but it still does it job. So right now, my cell does it better than this player was meant to be.
Come on folks... be "creative" and learn from the users.Message Edited by aicu on 2-26-200705:55 AM

  • AAC Support

I am working on an audio player and have the requirement to support AAC .m4a/.m4b audio files on both Windows and Mac. I have played with JMF and the standard sound libraries, finding they don't seem to support this format. Does anyone know of a library or other way that I can make my code play them? Similarly, I'd also like to be able to access the chapter information.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    korbar2005

You downloaded a podcast which was an aac/m4a file. That this file plays is not surprising, but is not a test of an aac stream.
To make sure we're on the same page, I downloaded an aac/m4a file then uploaded it to my webserver, and then went to Open Stream in iTunes and the file streamed. This is not true streaming like Shoutcast/Icecast/QTSS/Darwin, but it is loading the file and playing it though iTunes without storing it on my hard drive to save for later.
But yes, if anyone can find an AAC broadcaster that'd be excellent
