Did this machine work before you tried to install 9.2?
you may not have the correct cd. i think you need the restore cd that came with the machine.
Where did you get the cd?  black or grey?
We need your exact machine.
Query by serial number
"A serial number is a unique, identifying number or group of numbers and letters assigned to an individual piece of hardware or software. It's used for various things depending on the product / brand but what is your Mac's serial number for and more importantly... what is it hiding and what can it do for you ?"

does the cd boot into the software installation process?
Where you able to pick what disk to install onto?
>after boot thee first disk wasnt finished loading
Could be a damaged disc.  How long did you wait?
>now the g4 wont boot
We understand this line.
>it goes to the system the system software mon
Don't understand this.  What appears on the screen?
>this startup disk only functions on the original media not if copied to another drive.
& your point is?  You need to use the installation software to install.  You cannot copy the cd.
>Has a restart tab but at this point it has frozen and the mouse and keyboard do not functiuon.
I don't understand this.  Can you take a picture & post here.

First we need to know which one of the 9 different models of MacBook you have. To see which model you have go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. When System Profiler comes up check the Model Identifier and post it back here.
The Early 2006 model 1,1 Core Duo can only run a maximum of 10.6 Snow Leopard.
The models Late 2006 Core 2 Duos 2,1 through Early 2008 4,1 can only run a maximum of 10.7 Lion.
The Late 2008 model 5,1 Aluminum Unibody through the Mid 2010 White Unibody model 7,1 can run 10.8 Mountain Lion and 10.9 Mavericks.

Privacy is an Option in the Settings App, its not in Safari as that applies only to Safaris browsing.  Its called Privacy in  IOS 6  In previous versions the same thing can be found under Location Services.

Where can i download the Vista system support drivers?  It's only giving me the Windows 7 version...

I'm a lousy guesser so if you give more information on what year/model MPro  and what MacOS version your running it'd sure help? Two different OS's two different ways to install.
If your running 10.7( Lion) then Apple no longer supports XP OR Vista and no longer makes Boot Camp drivers for them.

  • Error: this song cannot be played because the original file cannot be found

I recently purchased a new computer and restored my music to the new computer. Although all of my songs are being displayed in the itunes library only half will play. When I try to play the remaining songs I get a message that says "this song cannot be played because the original file cannot be found". I'm at a loss and need help because all of the songs are in the same folder.

    Hi
I've pretty much got exactly the same problem. We've just replaced our old computer with a laptop and I've transferred my iTunes library over but I can't open almost all of my songs as "the original file couldn't be found." I've tried the "locate" prompt but that gives me so many different options, all to no avail. However, I have added a few new CDs since transferring the library to the laptop and they open up without any problems.
Can anyone help? I've got to go through all of this again soon as my daughters both have ipods as well!

  • Startup Disk - only Network Startup available

    Hello,
I've got a problem with startup. I have two partitions on my internal hard drive - HFS+ for Mac OS X Leopard and NTFS for Windows XP. I wanted to check the setting of startup disk but in the Startup Disk pane in System Preferences there is nothing but Network Startup. I can boot to Mac or Windows but I always have to wait like a minute while it tryes to connect or something. Do you know how to solve this issue?
    Thanks

For starters, deselect the network boot option so it does not spend time searching.
Holding down the Option key as noted by another poster is one way to select your OS.
Another option is to install rEFIt, a BSD boot selector program.

I am presuming you did not use BootCamp to install your Windows program, which might account for the missing boot manager that BC provides.

  • Windows disk doesn't show up in Startup Disk -- only on reboot w/option key

    Greetings,
I installed Windows XP on a separate SATA drive, and all is well with it. But it doesn't show up as an option in Startup Disk. The only way I can boot from it is to Restart and hold the option key down. Its icon DOES show up in the "choose disk" screen that follows.
Another user posted the same problem here, and someone suggested zapping the PRAM. I did this, allowing it to cycle through four times, but it didn't help.
    Any other suggestions?
    Thanks,
    DM

  • No Windows startup disk - only Mac

HI, I installed Windows XP SP2 hassle free a day or two ago. the first time i tried to choose a startup disk during startup (holding down 'option' key) the windows disk was there.
the next time it was not.
from looking around i found the 'rEFIt' download and installed it, shut down rather than restart like they say but still no windows disk.
i am able to startup using system preferences and choosing it etc. but it would be a lot easier to do it during startup.
    thanks
    Andrew
oh and i did change the name of the windows partition to WINDOWS HD instead of unknown - if it has anything to do with that.

just started it up and tried holding down 'option' and it decided to work.

  • My HD needs to be reformatted according to Disk Utility, but even when I use an external device for startup, Disk Utility cannot reformat the HD

I have a Macbook with a 500 GB Hard Drive. A routine check on Disk Utility told me the disk needed to be reformatted. I restarted from an external USB drive, but when I try to use Disk Utility to repair the HD or to reformat it, Disk Utility is unable to do anything with the HD (cannot repair, cannot erase, cannot reformat the HD).  Is there a utility App that can help me with this, or is the HD unrecoverable?

    Hi
Thanks very much for your reply. We have been starting up from a backup (USB) drive and use the disk utility that is on the backup drive so the internal (problem) HD is not being used for anything (except for wanting to repair it). Still Disk Utility cannot reformat or repair the drive. I have also run Onyx but it tells me everything is OK on the drive.
But I have made a little progress. Using my old install disk for Snow Leopard (10.6.3) I have managed to do a fresh install of the system on the internal HD. Unfortunately, I also asked the install disk to transfer/migrate the settings and documents from the backup drive back onto my internal HD. The install appeared to work, but then it got hung up on copying the documents from my backup drive to the HD. After letting it sit for 2 days without going anywhere, I stopped the install process. I am going to try again, just using my Snow Leopard  CD to install Snow Leopard, and nothing else. If that works, I will then get on to the problem of copying the rest of the settings and documents from my backup.
But since the Mac works OK off the USB  backup, and will also run off the install CD, I am guessing the problem is with the HD and the only solution might be to replace it if I can't repair it. But the macbook is several years old, and I am not sure it is worth buying a new HD for it.

  • TS4088 Does this extended warranty only apply to the 15" MacBook Pro's as i have a 13" that is experiencing the same problems and was manufactured during the same period...

as stated in the title, im experiencing the BSOD, have tried all possible solutions and its poihnting to the logic board being duff. did they extend the warranty on the 13" 2010 MBP's??

Bad Idea. You see, you are basing your decision on a flawed concept: that a desktop is the same as a portable. While the iMac does use some miniaturization concepts in order to stuff everything into a single box, in no way does it approach the degree it is done in any portable, much less in a 1" thick 13" MBP. Then add the added risk factors involved in something that goes to and fro all over the place, and you will have to agree that a portable's life is much more prone to danger.
But what's done is done and this can now only be a learning experience for the next purchase. Only glimmer of hope is that Apple recently lost a court ruling in the EU and is now mandated to honor the standard 2-year base warranty for electronic goods you all have over there; use that either as a negotiating tool to get it fixed outright or to see if you can still purchase the AppleCare extension. After all, AppleCare states that you need to purchase it while the base warranty is still in effect.
    Good luck.
