Head hunting

A lot of bandwidth in this mailing list has been devoted to the question
of recruitment postings. At the risk of making the problem worse, I
would like to express my opinion against these.
I have enough miles on my chassis to know that it is more common for
commercial content to crowd out technical content than it is for them to
peacefully co-exist. I have no objections to headhunters plying their
trade; they perform a useful function. But I would much rather see
recruiting and technical issues be on separate mailing lists.
Newspapers do not disperse want ads randomly through the paper, but
consolidate them in the "Want Ads" section, for the benefit of both
their readers and their advertisers. I believe a similar scheme would be
of benefit here. With the present scheme of everything on the same
mailing list, we run the risk of loosing recruitment notices in a mass
of technical traffic (at the present mix), losing techinical info in a
mass of want ads (if my nightmare comes true), or having a melange in
which it's all munged together and it's hard to hunt up what I want.
If I understand Eugene Rooney's mailing, Sage Solutions wants to run a
technical forum. That's fine, because that means Sage Solutions' desires
coincide with mine, and it is ultimately Sage Solutions that determines
the content of the mailing. If they wish to restrict recruitment
content, they have my blessing.
So where do the recruitment notices go? Anyone with enough Internet
access to post to this mailing list in the first place has enough to run
their own list server. Sage Solutions could in fact start a recruitment
list if they so choose. So could GAP, or Relational Options, Inc.
"Existence" announcements could be cross-posted monthly.
In short, and IM(NS)HO, I would prefer to see recruiting and technical
discussion kept separate.

Tom, thanks for the heads up on the drive. The A30 was bought as able to write DVDs and the manual describes the process. I tracked the model of the drive from the hardware panel in Windows. Your advice ties up with the behaviour as it clearly does not recognise the blank disc. I will get back to Toshiba and find out via the PC model number - maybe!.

  • I just got called by a head hunter about a LV job

He said he got my information from the NI web site.  I've looked around for ways to get information about myself to determine what info is available about me and to ensure that it is accurate.  I wasn't able to find anything.  I recently passed the CLAD exam, so I suspect that is where it came from.  Where do I find this info?  Who is able to see this info about me?  What is the privacy policy concerning this info?  I was surprised that the info about me was available.  I don't recall granting permission to post my info.  Nor did I ask that it not be posted.
My profile is set to not share information with 3rd parties.

    Hi Ed,
The vast majority of people who hold a certification want to be listed, so details are posted to the web site by default.
I do understand that some people may prefer not to have their details listed and if you want yours removed from the certification listings, then we can do this. Please let me know your preference.
    Regards,
David Corney, Training and Certification Program Manager.

  • I want to send a video with RESUME! Please advise!

The company is a cool hip music software company and I have sent a email resume, had one small interview with head hunter (not the company), they forward my materials, said it might take a while, but since my skills and passion line up perfectly with the job (basically working with artists who use the software) and turning it into PR material - I want to send them a VIDEO or PODCAST (thinking more video) so they can get a feel of how I am (have worked with many artists) and am wondering how you would do it?
iMovie, Podcast, Keynote, combination of all therof?
    Advice?
    Thanks.
I REALLY WANT this job, as a producer that has created several CD's for SONY, this job is so perfect I would be happy doing this forever.
    Peace.
Also, I know you could do some cool stuff with KEYNOTE so wondering with iMOVIE isight camera with me and maybe a combo of keynote? Not sure, just want them to get a feel for my upbeatness and have them be able to see the DVD when they put it in there player but don't want to spend all day making menues and stuff, just a quick hello and why I want this job.
    Thanks

Yes, that's one option. In a Presentation Zen article, Garr Reynolds includes a simple example of a "digital postcard" made in Keynote with just three slides. Click on the thumbnail to view it along with some notes on how he did it:
...Garr published his "digital postcard" to YouTube via Keynote's File menu > Send To. This video tutorial about sharing Keynote presentations briefly shows this.
But for better quality you may want to consider exporting your presentation as a QuickTime movie via Keynote's File menu > Export... Then drag the .mov file into iMovie '08 and from there publish it to MobileMe Gallery, as was done with this Keynote presentation:

  • Lightroom 2.7 either freezing when loading or switching modules

I've started having a problem with LR 2.7 which has been working perfectly for months.  I've looked at other threads and the symptoms don't seem to match.  Here's the set-up
Dell quad core processor PC with 8gb RAM
2 x 1tb HDD.  One is drive C: with OS and LR installed on it and one is drive D: with all the catalogues and photos on it.  Plenty of free space.
    Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit.
    LR 2.7 64bit
Nothing else is particularly fancy on the hardware front.
I use individual catalogues per client so none of them are particularly big.  The catalogue is stored in a folder alongside the folders that contain the photos.  All this is stored on the D: drive
Everything has been working perfectly until a couple of weeks ago.  Then, I launched Lightroom and went in to the library OK.  Then I went to switch to slideshow and it just seemed to freeze.  I noticed that the disk activity light was on permanently and that every 3 or 4 seconds there was the sound of the heads hunting across the drive.  Everything else on the PC became pretty unresponsive.  I could move the mouse and click on things but it would be several seconds before anything responded.  This included Task Manager.  I could launch it and eventually it would load.  Absolutely no sign of any CPU activity and memory utilization around 25%.  After waiting several seconds between each mouse click I could evebtually select the LR process and kill it.  As soon as LR dissappeared, everything else was back to normal.
Rebooted the PC and tried running LR again with the same catalogue and this time it just sits there on the splash screen and the same thing happens with response on the rest of the machine.
The problem has been intermittent.  On Saturday I did some work with no problems.  Then yesterday went to load it again and it loaded OK in to the library but froze again going to the slideshow.  Since then I haven't been able to load it succesfully.  I've tried creating a new catalogue and get the same.
    I've uninstalled and reinstalled
Both disks have been scanned for errors and all clear.
I've uninstalled Wacom tablet drivers as I've seen some other posts about issues with them.
I'm getting close to considering a WIndows reinstall but obviously want to avoid that if I can.
    Anyone got any suggestions?
    Cheers
    David

    Hi,
It's looking like that it's a drive problem.  Dell asked me to run extensive low level tests on drives and memory and on the main system disk there were a number of unreadable blocks.  Hopefully they'll be sending me a replacement disk as it's under warranty.
I've tried various things to kick Lightroom in to life, one of which has been to uninstall it and reinstall it to the 2nd hard disk which went through the tests with no errors.  But still had the problem.  So if it is a disk problem and it is the system disk, even after uninstalling Lightroom there must still be something lurking on the C: drive that it still tries to access.  What's really annoying is that absolutely nothing else is having any problem.  Photoshop is fine, office apps, Outlook, web browsing, video editing etc. etc. all working with no problem.
    Cheers

  • Hiring Mangers - Where do you look for candidates?

I inherited an open Programmer/Analyst position and am looking to fill it.  Besides Spiceworks ($100/60 days is cheap) where have Hiring Managers had good luck filling entry to mid-level programmer/analyst positions?
I know I'll end up posting in multiple locations but we are giving this one last shot before hiring a head hunter to assist us.
    Thanks in Advance.

It is 20ms for Time to First Byte. 1ms applies to a stretched farm. You could look at your storage latency, although how you would do this would vary from NAS manufacture. You may want to look at your product documentation.

  • How to copy all video sources to one central location?

    Hello
Having picked up excellent tips from the forums and now overcome my initial hiccups I am now running Premiere Elements 8 very successfully and am, delighted with the results BUT I still have a nagging query.
I am using a USB memory stick and an external HDD to bring video sources into my project to be editied and rendered. This works fine but of course whenever I want to amend the project, I need to plug in these devices again, no problem until one day in the future I don't have that particuilar stick or drive!!!!!
Simple question is : How do I copy all these resources to one central location for current and future use please?
I suppose this is a dumb question but please take in to account I'm a keen but very green newbie!!!  Many thanks in advance,
    Paul (UK)

Steve, I just went through your Basic Training toturial and I have to say it was one of the clearest, well paced and immediately understandable series I've seen yet. You cover it all quickly and logically and I now see where I made soooooooooo many mistakes. Haven't Adobe head hunted you yet? One minor suggestion. . .  being a Brit, PAL is our standard and, because you have all nationalities viewing your material, it might be helpful for the PAL area to be mentioned in the initial project set up too. I know about PAL and NTSC but others may not. Hope you don't mind this tiny point? I can't thank you enough for the guidance you've given me already  . . . you're a very patient guy with us newbies! Thanks.
Bill, thanks for the "thumbs up" too on those Harm set ups, it's good to get confirmation from someone who's done it and proved the case. I don't have RAID either but the settings below that level are perfectly fine for me. I'm really looking forward to my next, properly configured project.
    Thanks Bill

  • Settings refuse to die

    I'm very confused.
My computer has had CS3, CS4, and now CS5 installed on it. Each time, I have removed the previous version before upgrading. I have deleted any CS4 folders from the hard drive, and done cache purges etc.
I have a raw NEF file with develop settings, a tilted crop, and a 5-star rating. I can set rating to 0, and clear develop settings to get it back to defaults. If I then delete its XMP file, the settings return: rating, crop and develop settings.
Where on earth is it getting these settings from? I thought they were stored in the xmp file.

just a long shot, do you have google picassa installed,
as the data may be stored in its database.
picassa is pretty rapid at updating and easily tracks file moves.
for my money adobe should head hunt their s/w developers and put them straight onto bridge.

  • Default text is populated in header text while creating PO.

    Hi All,
Can someone help me with some inputs on this issue.
    1) <b> A particular PO header text is appearing by default when we click on Long Text tab and coming back in the TCode ME21.</b>
    2)  Irrespective of the organization details, Vendor or Material etc. for any PO these texts are appearing.
    3) The path for example :
Test Example –  Enter some PO no. (4502756226),                               Goto Header ->Texts -> Texts  Overview -> Header Text (Long Text Tab),<---This is where the defualt text is appearing.
    4) Imp Note: These texts are appearing ONLY while creation of the PO, but when in Change (ME22) and in display (ME23) not appearing.
Could someone help me out on this.
    My steps this far:
    1) I tried finding if there is any userexit. I found that all the include files of all the userexits were empty.
    2) Kindly suggest me if there any other way to search a solution for this.

    Krishna Hi,
                   Thanks!!!
Tried navigating through  MM>Purchasing>Purchase order>Texts for PO>Define copying rules for header texts.
These are meant for coying the header texts right?
I unchecked the box there and the default header text still appears.
Tell me if i erred somewhere in the above steps you had told.
In the meantime..am also trying to hunt down on the FM "read_text" that
probably is triggering the defualt text to get copied.
Your answer helped me look at the problem from a diff perspective.
                  Thanks Krishna.

  • Removing head switch noise from VHS video

    Hi experts,
I have imported a video from a vhs videorecorder - and now I want to remove the head switch noise by shifting the entire video 8 lines down and insert 8 lines black at the top and bottom.
How do I do this with Premiere Elements 11?
Thanks a lot for your help!

    joeK
I think that the scale up  ever so little (with Constrain Proportions Off) would have been the best, but if your image has problems with that (and as Hunt says can live with black bars), then
Approach 1 - On Screen Image Moved Down
The just moving the screen image down far enough to hide the switch head noise at the bottom of the frame. To do that:
    a. Click on the image on screen, and use the mouse cursor to drag the image downward far enough to hide the switch head noise bar.
    or
    b. Highlight/select the Timeline clip, go to Applied Effects Tab/Applied Effects Palette/Motion Panel expanded, and increase the second value for Position to move the image downward on the screen.
The black at the top of the image that you generate in this process is not the color black but rather the program using black to represent transparency.
Before Position second value = 238.8 in this example
After Position second value = 250.8 in this example
Approach 2 - Cropping out Noise
Go to xf Effects/Transform/Crop and drag the Crop Effect into the video on the Expert workspace Timeline. Then adjust the Left, Top, Right sliders so that the image is not cropped at any of those edges. Move the Bottom slider from 0 upward to replace the switch head noise with transparency/black border at bottom.
Please review and then let us know the outcome.
Any questions or if clarification needed, please do not hesitate to ask.
    Thank you.

  • Collapsed Tabular Form Heading when "No data found".

The ' Collapsed Tabular Form Heading when "No data found" ' problem (speculated to be bug 9893564) is discussed here: {message:id=4419231}. Warning link is out of date. I'm still seeing it in APEX 4.2.
I support Kelly's comments "looks like something is broken" and "Now this header (which is sized smaller before data is retrieved) comes between the search items and the help message and looks clumsy.".{message:id=9185914}.
Any suggestion to get around it when no data is found?
    1) Is there a way to hide the header when there is no data? Or,
    2) Is there a way to adjust the width of the columns if the header must display? I'd like them to be about what they are when data is displayed. I know those lengths but not how to affect the header width for a tabular report with no data.
    Example:
    WS APEX_EXAMPLES_01
    demo
    demo
Appl 78329 Tabular Form - page 1. (I forced query not to find any data for demo purposes.)
    Thanks,
    Howard

Great! So many new techniques here -- new to me. Generally, I much prefer positive logic as well. But this solution seems to have more pieces than the other. There is method in that.
Firstly, with Aljaz's approach you can see a flicker as the tabular form is actually rendered and then hidden when the script in the footer is eventually run. This will be more apparent with a longer or more complicated page where it takes longer to reach the script and more content needs to be adjusted following removal of the form. Reversing the logic and hiding the form using CSS in the page header prevents this as the form elements are initially created as hidden nodes in the DOM before any of the page is rendered.
More important is that this approach applies the principles of the separation of concerns and unobtrusive JavaScript. At some point when developing in APEX you're going to find yourself seriously losing your cool in a situation where you know the app is executing some JavaScript, but you can't find where that script is defined (maybe you've already been there). Look at the page 2 definition using the tree view: where's the JavaScript that is going to run? Now look at page 1: ah, there are a couple of dynamic actions...
APEX now includes a lot of containers specifically for JavaScript: File URLs, Function and Global Variable Declaration and Execute when Page Loads in page templates and page headers, and declarative and custom Execute JS Code Dynamic Actions. These provide for good separation of concerns: we should use these locations for JS code, and avoid the exasperation of hunting through templates, page/region headers/footers, page 0 regions, pre-/post-element text or wherever to find the script we can see in the page source or JS debugger.
Aljaz's solution also depends on detecting the presence of the No Data Found message with class <tt>nodatafound</tt>, and on modifying the Add Row button.
What if someone changes the class of the No Data Found message in the report attributes? The Exists... condition on the dynamic action performs this check in a more direct way (although it's not ideal: DRY is violated by having both 2 copies and 2 executions of the report SQL; nor is it reusable on other form regions).
Modifying the Add Row button JavaScript directly is intrusive. Like footers and templates, it's another non-obvious location for JS customisation. By using a dynamic action to bind another click handler to the button we're making the modification more obvious, and more importantly we don't have to modify what it's already doing&mdash;or in this instance, even care what that is (in other circumstances we might need to change the order or propagation of events, or suppress the original behaviour).
As for reusability, my original solution didn't really consider this (as it wasn't mentioned in the OP). Since the subject has been raised, and in accordance with my comments above, I'd approach it in a different way.
As discussed, I suggest not squirrelling JavaScript away in region templates. I'd create a reusable report template for tabular forms rather than a region one. A <tt>class</tt> defined on the report container there will provide a more direct selector for hide/show behaviour. I'd stick to initially hiding this report via CSS, and use dynamic actions defined on the global page to conditionally show it on page load and bind show behaviour to the Add Row button click. To make these DAs reusable I'd remove the Exists... condition from the first one and replace it with a JS condition that checks to see if the tabular form report contains any visible data rows (the class on the report template will help there as well). Binding the show behaviour to the Add Row button would use the <tt>onclick</tt> attribute as a selector (rather than an ID selector that requires an intrusive edit of the button) so that all Add Row buttons would be affected: <tt>$('button[onclick^="apex.widget.tabular.addRow"]')</tt>.
    And about the style code:
    #report_tabular-form,
    #report_tabular-form .report-standard {
    min-width: 90%;
} That is an improvement. I had read about it but not considered it for this. I tried the technique used to adjust column width on other reports but when I use "div," it makes the data in that column display only. I really want to adjust the width of the individual column header. Is there a way to do that?I'm not really clear what you're asking here. (Use "div"? Where? How?)
To control the width of individual report column headers, use the following CSS:
    th#COLUMN_ALIAS {
      width: 10em;
}Where <tt>COLUMN_ALIAS</tt> is the alias of the column in the query: APEX uses this as the HTML <tt>id</tt> attribute for the column table header element. (Note that <tt>id</tt> attributes must be unique within a document, so it the same column appears in multiple reports/forms, ensure each column alias is unique.)

  • Converted .avi to .mp4 for Premiere Pro CS6 but receive a header error.. help?

When I imported .avi video file into Premiere Pro CS6, only the audio played. I used VLC to convert the .avi file to .mp4 through a batch file. Now when I try to open the .mp4 file into Premiere Pro CS6, I receive an error "File cannot be opened because of a header error".
I've tried converting the .avi file to .mov and .wav but they receive the same header error.
I've also tried opening in Audition and resaving it as .wav pc but it still won't import to Premiere.

First, depending on what is inside the AVI file, it should/might be "naturally" supported by Premiere

  • Hunt Groups to login

Can you create a hunt group for multiple users to login in CM5.x so as to use it like a helpdesk environment and you can track whether the user has logged in or out of the queue. Any help would be great

    Hi Satu,
Just to add a note to the great tips from Pam and James (+5 points each folks :)
Don't feel stupid my friend, there are so many acronyms in this business it will make your head spin :)
ACD = Automatic Call Distribution (calls are distributed between active/logged-in Agents)
This term relates to Call centre applications like UCCX.
    As to Hunt Group Login/Logout, sadly this feature is only available CCM 4.2 and CUCM 6.x/7.x with the Login/Logout of Hunt Groups feature (as James nicely noted). This is not available in CCM 4.1.3 or 5.x. Have a look;
    Log Out of Hunt Groups
The Log Out of Hunt Groups feature allows phone users to log their phones out from receiving calls that get routed to directory numbers that belong to line groups to which the phone lines are associated. Regardless of the phone status, the phone rings normally for incoming calls that are not calls to the line group(s) that are associated with the phone. The phone provides a visual status of the login state, so the user can determine by looking at the phone whether they are logged in to their line group(s).
The Log Out of Hunt Groups feature also comprises the following components:
The HLog softkey allows a phone user to log a phone out of all line groups to which the phone directory numbers belong. Configure the HLog softkey in the Softkey Layout Configuration window. When the user presses the HLog softkey, the phone screen displays "Logged out of Hunt Group." When the user presses the HLog softkey again to log back in and receive hunt group calls, the "Logged out of Hunt Group" notification on the phone screen clears.
The Hunt Group Logoff Notification service parameter in the Clusterwide Parameters (Device - Phone) section of the Service Parameters Configuration window for the Cisco CallManager service must be configured to enable this feature.
Hunt Group Logoff Notification Service Parameter
The Hunt Group Logoff Notification service parameter in the Clusterwide Parameters (Device - Phone) section of the Service Parameters Configuration window for the Cisco CallManager service provides the option to turn audible ring tones on or off when calls that come in to a line group arrive at the phone and the current status of the phone is logoff. The default value specifies None, which causes the phone not to ring.
The Log Out of Hunt Groups feature, which is device-based, operates differently for non-shared lines and for shared lines.
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucm/admin/4_2_1/ccmsys/a03rp.html#wp1091630
In the CCM 4.1.x and 5.x trains there is really not an equivilant feature. The best you can do is probably using AC Hunt :(
    Hope this helps a little!

  • Heading on final line of a page

I've just finished writing an essay in Pages 5.0 on my Mac. In two instances I happened to have headings that were on the final line of a page (as in there was a heading and then the following paragraph started on the next page). Since this looks quite strange I put a blank line above the heading to force it onto the next page. Is there a way to setup a heading style so that it is can't be the final line on the page, or so that it is somehow connected with the following paragraph (which is in a body style)?

Frankly it took me a while to hunt it out, in the new improved Contectual UI, and I'm pretty familiar with all the old hiding places.

  • Header Authentication (Number  III)

I am stuck with the header authentication
First I tried to follow the "Secure Guide" and using authschemes.xml. But I could not make sense of the authschemes requirements. Both, header and userid/pw needs to work in the same scheme.
I implemented header authentication using the example in the pdf from Mr. Wulftange. This one was configured using only the Visual Admin as a login module.
Do I need to make changes in the authschemes.xml as well or is it just enough to configure the security provider?
I really wish someone had a step by step guide for this header authentication. It is like hunting piece by piece for information, everybody knows something but nobody knows the whole truth
We have a Juniper Systemen for VPN and Sign on, and Juniper needs to make a header based connection to the EP.

    Hi,
i have a problem with header authentification. Can you fwd the pdf guitde to me?
