Heading today for my 3rd iPhone - What is failure rate?

I am on my 2nd iphone now - first one was not stable making any calls. I spent all yesterday with tech support from Apple when my new iphone started rebooting repeatedly, and was not resolved even after a normal restore and then a complete re-setup as a new phone and reinstall of iTunes.
Phone now reboots on every startup and has the message that the iphone is broken and please contact Apple Support. Does not know its IMEI or ICCID and will not complete a restore or setup.
I am extremely frustrated at this device. I love it when it works, but feel strongly there are a LOT of problems that they are still working out with users as beta review. I will not accept a 4th phone - I would rather go back to Windows 6.1

I agree that it is very odd to be on the 4th, 5th or even more replacement phone but I disagree that it is always the user causing this. I had troubble with my Palm phone 2 years back. I don't temper with phones, download applications I was actually just using it for calls and text messaging. But my phone crashed every so often. It turned out that the phones had a problem and that incoming SMS could trigger the crash. Once they figured that out and distributed new firmware it never happened again.
My guess is that most likely people who receive regularly SMS will run into the trouble while others rarley using SMS don't.
Today my 6 week old iPhone stopped working (message is: phone needs repair!) over night while beeing charged. And I see lots of other users have the same problem. So I guess the iPhone has some kind of bug which needs to be solved.
I just hope that this time it will be my one and only replacement phone.
Just my 2 cents.

  • Head count for the 3rd at 3:00am

Even though there are a lot of people that are not on the verizon forums but if you are here, let's get a head count then we can estimate other's that arent on here. Who will be up at 3:00am to pre-order their iphone?
    say hello or me!

Sorry friends, but it 3:00 AM for one and all according to their time zone.  EST first and then it moves west, but it is 3:00 AM no matter where you live.
Not only that, but Verizon has allocated a specific number of phones for each time zone, and I would guess that zones with huge populations have more phones alloted to them.
I have researched high and low and I do know what I am talking about - no need to stay up until midnight, but there is a need, if you are as desperate as I am, to get up at 2:55 AM your time.

  • Up for my 3rd iPhone?

My first iPhone (16GB white, series 86829) I had to return to the shop because of three cracks round the headphonejack.
My second iPhone (16GB white, series 87830) I returned yesterday because the gps didn't work.
Is it just my luck, or do other early adopters have these same experiences with Apple products?
Hopefully Apple will get things right, because I enjoy their products very much.
My MacBook (with starters problems as staining and cracking topcase, which Apple solved under warrenty) works perfectly and so does my AirportXpress.
The wifi of the iPhones made perfect connection with my wirelessnetwork at home and the synchronisation of my contacts and agenda between MacBook and iPhone is flawless.
Hopefully my third iPhone will be perfect......

Just from my experience your experience isn't typical of other Apple products. I have a 5 year old powerbook running the newest versions of iLife and leopard. My wife has a 1 year old imac along with 2 airport Expresses and 3 ipods. All this stuff works seamlessly and has been extremely reliable. I tried an iphone about 3 months ago and decided it wasn't ready yet, at least in my situation but am about ready to try another one since the upgrade. Both att and Apple were very nice about my credit for the phone. I actually intended to sell the powerbook at 3 years when applecare ran out but it has been such a joy I just keep on using it. Best of luck with the new phone.

  • HT1695 Today for some reason my IPad won't fully connect to my iphone and tether.  For instance under settings it shows next to "Wi-FiI'm connected to the Wi-Fi but at the top of the screen there is no connection symbol and in fact i am unable to load web

Today for some reason my Ipad won't tether properly. The iphone says it's connected and on the Ipad next to Wi-Fi in settings shows I'm connected but at the top left of the screen there is no connection icon and I cannot load and display web pages. My Ipad is about three weeks old and I have never had this problem before. I have rebooted but this did not solve my problem.
    Any ideas?

    Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

My iphone 4s keeps overheating and will not let me go on any of my apps as well as send any messages. plus my contract isn't up for another 6 months, what can i do?

RESOLVED!!! I logged on to my Straight Talk online account, and did a Tech Chat. They immediately gave me a direct phone number and a Reference PIN number and asked me to contact their iPhone specialty support. I called (of course the gentleman's accent was very difficult for me to understand, but managed with asking continually for clarity). He walked me through several tests, setting changes and had me get on my wifi to obtain the latest APN settings. None of his efforts worked ad it was obviously NOT my Straight Talk iPhone 5, 64GB CDMA (no SIM) - it was something with their setting on their end on my account. I was placed on hold a few times and he would come back on to have me try to get on Safari and even Google... after the 3rd on-hold, he returned and asked me to try to use my data again without the wifi turned on and BINGO it worked... I still do not have my wifi turned on and I'm still receiving texts from YESTERDAY too while I was away from wifi service. IF you come across this issue - please call Straight Talk and/or log on to your Straight Talk online account and talk to an online customer service representative and get their direct line phone number for iPhone support and have your Reference PIN number available. Good Luck

    If not this:
iOS: Wi-Fi or Bluetooth settings grayed out or dim
One user reported that placing the iPod in the freezer fixed the problem.
    Also heating sometimes works. See:
Why can't I select my wifi settings?
A trick that works frequently with iPhones:
Settings > AirPlane Mode ON, Do Not Disturb ON
Power down and wait 5-10 minutes
    Power up
Settings > AirPlane Mode OFF, Do Not Disturb OFF
If not successful, an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is usually in order.
Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar
    Then:
Does the iOS device connect to other networks? See other networks? If yes that tends to indicate a problem with your network.
Does the iOS device see the network?
    Any error messages?
    Do other devices now connect?
Did the iOS device connect before?
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on your router
.- Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    - iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    - Wi-Fi: Unable to connect to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network
    - iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem and it does not connect to any networks make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • What is the quickest way to get a new iPhone swapped for my current iPhone?

    Hello all,
I'm in search of a solution for my parents. The conundrum is this:
Parents have a pair of iPhone 4 8GB picked up for free on contract back in 2010 from Verizon Wireless.
They're interested in the new iPhone (6) and would like to get replacements for both. Issue is they don't want to pay. They want it "free" just as they did the first time.
Everyone has a decent idea about the carriers offering up to $200 for working iPhones from 2010 and later.
My parents do not want to be without their iPhones for any amount of time so they have ruled out Verizon's ship your old phone, let us confirm it's a working iPhone, and then wait for us to give you a virtual gift card for use later. Reading their small print states this could be weeks.
From what I was hearing AT&T was offering the $200 upgrade in brick & mortar stores, essentially allowing customers to walk out with a "free" iPhone 6.
My parents do not want to switch carriers.
Does the Apple community have an viable tips, suggestions, or comments regarding my parents situation? Any feedback is greatly appreciated as every option I've brainstormed with them results in a time loss.
They do not have back up phones to take the place of their current mobile devices and I don't believe they would want to issue themselves temporary throwaway phones, like a Tracphone. With that said... what do you think?

Trade-in: The trade-in value for an iPhone 4 with only 8GB will be minimal, but you may be able to get some credit through Verizon Apple. Those phones through Apple result in about $35 credit if in great working condition. AT&T is offering up to $200. I can tell you from experience you won't get $200 for an 8GB iPhone 4. We received $100 for a very good condition 4 with 16GB of RAM at AT&T.
    Verizon trade-in: https://www.trade-in.vzw.com/home.php5?c=en-us
    Apple trade-in: http://store.apple.com/us/iphone/reuse-and-recycling
New phone: Generally the only "free" iPhone on contract is the bottom-end one, which is the iPhone 5c at the current time. It is important to note that that phone is limited in terms of lifespan (won't likely get OS updates after next year).
That said, most US carriers are moving away from, or financially discouraging, completely subsidized phones towards monthly subsidized phones. The iPhone 6 is generally $199, iPhone 6+ is $299 on contract in the US, regardless of carrier.
You can walk out of a Verizon store (or AT&T) with a "free" iPhone 6, but you'll be paying for it monthly (~$27 for a 6, $31 for a 6+) over the two year timeframe instead. If they absolutely don't want to spend anything out of pocket but want a 6 or 6+, that's about the best they'll be able to do.

#1. Understand that if you switch carriers, you can NOT take your existing iPhone with you. It won't work. You will need to purchase a new one.
#2. Your only choices are Sprint and Verizon. Decide who has the better coverage in your area. Keep in mind that you will NOT be able to get simultaneous voice and 3G data on either of these, as their CDMA networks do not support it. The U.S. T-Mobile network is not supported and is not fully compatible with the iPhone as it operates on a rarely used frequency compared to the rest of the world.
#3. What in the world are "niners"? Do you mean you want to be able to keep your existing "phone numbers"? If so, that should be no problem. Most numbers in the US are now portable.
#4. Consider WHY you want to switch. If the issue is really price, you're not going to see much of a difference. A few dollars a month at best for comparable voice and data plans.
