Headless Pismo needing pre-login screens

Hi, I have a Pismo without a display that has an external monitor attached. With the help of forum members I am able to have full functionality of this machine once I log in.
However, I am hoping to find if there is a way to get a displayed screen prior to logging in. For example, if I hold down the "C" key to boot into my system disk, or hold the "Option" key for selecting a boot disk, or for accessing Open Firmware, or for Single User Mode.
I was hoping that there might be a way to change the default display for booting or if there was some keyboard shortcut that someone knows about.
Thanks in advance.

Shermo,
I cannot think of a workaround for your configuration except to alter a setting in Open Firmware. Here is a very brief explanation of OF:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=24605
With some Googling, you can find out which version of OF the Pismo runs and some basic settings that can be changed. However, your configuration presents a problem; the default display for your Pismo is the powerbook's LCD and this is what Open Firmware will try to use. The Pismo will still boot into OF but you will have no way to view it.
My only suggestion is to just sleep the powerbook and display (or turn off the display but turn it on before waking the 'book), not turn them off. Since you apparently are using the Pismo as a desktop-only, I see no reason to shut it down...it can sleep in this low-power mode indefinitely.

  • Forwarding login screen over SSH

    Hi,
    I am trying to forward my Solaris login screen to my PC running an X server. I want to forward the login screen that says
    "Welcome to <hostname>
    Solaris
    Please enter your user name"
    How do I go about this? What is the file in Soalris that boots this screen on start up? I can forward a CDE session to my PC, but I dont want to do that. I need this login screen.
    Appreciate the help guys,
    David.

    Hello.
    With my old computer I managed to display this screen on a Windows X client using XDM. On my new machine I did not manage this because dtgreet does not work on remote machines when having installed the latest patches.
    Using SSH it is not possible to show this screen at all.
    If it was possible with another version of dtgreet you had to log-in as "root" using SSH (it would not work with another user) which is a problem because SSH typically denies root access.
    The question is: Why do you wish to show this display on the remote machine? Maybe there is a better way to archieve the goal you actually want.

  • Use formsweb.cfg to pre-populate database field on login screen?

    Hello,
    Is it possible to configure formsweb.cfg to pre-populate the 'Database' field on the Oracle forms login screen? I still want users to be able to overwrite what's entered there but just have it populated with something by default.
    Thanks,

    Hi,
    In Forms 10g you can set the userid parameter to something like "@DATABASEID LOGON_SCREEN=YES", where databaseid is your database server.
    In Forms 11g this doesn't work so well, but I got round this by doing the following in our menu form, if you haven't got a single menu form then you may need to do this in all your forms where the user isn't already logged on when the form opens.
    First off you need to set the userid parameter to something like "@DATABASEID".
    Next an on-logon trigger is required in your menu or first form, I used the following:
    on-logon trigger
    DECLARE
    cn VARCHAR2(80);
    BEGIN
    ** Get the connection info
    ** If userid paramater in formsweb.cfg is set to '@<database>' or
    ** '@<database> login_screen=true' then this will put <database> into database field
    ** in default logon form
    cn := Get_application_property(CONNECT_STRING);
    if instr(cn,' ') > 0
    then
    cn := substr(cn,1,instr(cn,' ')-1);
    end if;
    LOGON(null,'@'||cn,TRUE);
    if form_success
    then :global.login_success := 'TRUE';
    end if;
    END;
    Also, to deal with the situation where a user decides to click cancel in the logon screen, you need to put the following at the start of your wnfi trigger.
    when-new-forms-instance trigger
    default_value('FALSE','global.login_success');
    if :global.login_success != 'TRUE'
    then
    erase('global.login_success');
    exit_form;
    end if;
    erase('global.login_success');

    When i type in my correct password on the login screen and press enter it just goes to a blue screen for a few seconds then goes back to the same login screen again, please i need help?

    You can take some of the steps here, #4, #5 or even trying a #18
    Step by Step to fix your Mac
    but I suspect your going to first have to create a data recovery drive
    Create a data recovery, undelete boot drive
    to get your data off the machine,
    then do a #20 to eliminate the bad sectors as that's why your getting the "pinwheel" it's getting a delay reading from the drive, right when your trying to log in too, what a bad spot for it to happen.

  • Keys broken, need to enter Password? How to open onscreen keyboard from login screen?

    I have a macbook (just the original white one...I want to say it's a 2008). I haven't used it in a while because my keyboard is broken. I had to have some work done on it (other than replacing the ketboard which I will do later), and when I got it back and cut it on, it came to the login screen where I need to enter my password. My password contains some of the letters on my keyboard that are broken. How do you open the on screen keyboard (where I can use my mouse to type it in) from the login screen? There's no options or anything that I can click on other than where I enter my password. Thanks in advance for any help!!!

    I do not have an external keyboard...well I do, but I can't find it at the moment. So if there's any other way around it, that would be helpful

  • Help needed in making a login screen

    hi all,
    i need to make a login screen in flash in which a user enters
    a password and username and both are checked from an xml file. i
    need your help in making it. could anyone redirect me to some
    tutorial or if anyone can post the code here, i would really be
    grateful to you. thanks,
    gaurav

    First you need to load the xml file that contains the list of
    user names and passwords into variables using actionscript.
    Use this tutorial.
    http://www.actionscript.org/tutorials/intermediate/XML/index.shtml
    Then compare the value entered by the user with the list of
    usernames and passwords.
    But be aware:
    1>All the processing happens on the client machine
    2>Extremely insecure if you are after a secure login.
    3>and when you update the XML file it won't necessarily
    take effect immediately on all the user's machines as they may be
    using a cached version of it.
    Ideal method is to use server side validation script using
    asp, asp.net, jsp or php.

  • Login Screen freezes after Lion 10.7.2 upgrade - needs 3 hard reboots

    Just upgraded my 21.5" late 2009 iMac to OS X Lion 10.7.2.
    0. Power up from cold start: login screen appears, and mouse works, but clicking on users does not bring up the password box.  No option except for hard reboot.
    1. Hold down power button until it shuts down.  Power up, still no respponse (see 0.).
    2. Hold down power button until it shuts down.  Power up, still no respponse (see 0.).
    3. Hold down power button until it shuts down.  Power up, responds normally, can login (or start computing if login screen is bypassed).
    I saw messages (mostly for MacBook Pros) dating back to July/August 2011 with similar problems.  But none for 10.7.2, and none where it consistently takes 3 hard reboots to get a response.  I tried all of the suggestions that applied: SMC reset, repair disk permissions, change password, bypass login screen. If I use automatic login, it boots up into my desktop and all the services seem to start.  The mouse works, but nothing responds when I click on it (see 0.).
    Any ideas?
    thanks,
    david

    Thanks lynque.  It turns out I did need a keychain repair, but that didn't fix the problem.  I probably should have done this earlier, but I ended up unplugging all peripherals (2 firewire + 3 USB) then powered up without issue.
    So I shut down, plugged in one at a time, and ran into the problem again after plugging in an external hard drive (WD My Book Essential).  I repaired with disk utility, but the problem remained.
    I then rebuilt the partitions with Disk Warrior, and now everything seems to work....

  • How to get the Trusted Identity Login Page with the needed parameters to make custom login screen instead of sharepoint Login Page?

    hi guys
    i have configured trusted identity provider for my public facing internet portal, but i dont want to use the login screen
    since i have about 10 site collection which will use this authentication.
    is there a class or property that gives me the url ready with the parameters like "wa" and "wtrealm" and the redirect url based on the place the user click the link from.

    You can create your own login page and specify the URL for it in the authentication provider settings of a Web Application or Zone.  So the easiest way to do what you want would be to extend your existing Web Application to a new Zone, change the login
    Page url to point to use your custom zone, and tell users to use the url of that zone to login with the custom provider you have built.
    If you want a single zone then you will need to modify a copy of the login page you display above and have it redirect to a custom login page for your identity provider if the pick the correct entry in the dropdown.

  • Satelltie L855-s5155 freeze at login screen or was extremely slow - now need windows 8or 8.1

        I purchased this laptop about a year and half ago.  I have used it a total of 5 times.  It mainly remains in the laptop back int he closet.
    Model L855-S5155
    Serial Number: XXXXXXXXX
        I turned it on last week and it booted up to the login screen.  I typed my password in and nothing happened.  The cursor was flashing in the password field but when I typed my password, the cursor moved two spaces and remained there for a couple of hours at which time I had to turn it off by holding the power button for 5 seconds.  I repeated this process several times.  At one time it took my password and the dots started going in circles to I guess load the live tiles.  I left that go for about 4 hours at which time I turned it off again.
        Upon turning it on I did get an error message on a bably blue screen that stated 'Windows was not shutdown properly' and it restarted.  At the Toshiba splash screen the dots going in a circle showing that something was loading so I left that go for about 6 hours while it remained still at that screen.
        At one point I had gotten the maintenance screen upon boot up so I tried a system restore.  That didn't work.  Same issues.  Unfortunatley I hadn't made a restore / recovery disk which I guess being Toshiba that should have been my first task.   As I reviewed the boards I found that the system never shuts down and at the current situation I was in not being able to login to Windows I had to resort to removing the battery for a minute and restarting the laptop to get to certain areas.
        I attmepted to reset the PC from the maintenance screen in hopes that would fix the problem.  I had upgraded from windows 8 to 8.1, but it was working after the upgrade so I didn't worry about it.  Unfortunatley that didn't work.  When it restarted it remained on the Toshiba slpash screen for 10 hours with the dots going around in a circle.  Knowing some processes take a little time, I have been leaving the laptop on for a while to make sure certain processes have time to finish but 10 hours to me might have been too long after a recovery.   Everytime I turn on the laptop the Toshibal splash screen would come up and the dots would go around in circles.  I left it go over night  one night to see if there was some process that needs longer to run, but no.
        Being that I purchased my laptop with windows 8, I would like to have windows 8 on it.  Unfortunately I need to laptop for a project so I decided maybe I should put windows 7 on the computer just to get t running so upon restarting the laptop and getting the BIOS screen there was screen that came up that would delete all partitions.  I guess and HDD Recovery. Now that I have run that of course I have, what I think, may be a clean hard disk to start from.
        Something I did notice when I began to install windows 7 is that my 750 gb hard drive only shows 698 gb of free space.  Being that there aren't any disk maintenance tools to let me know if there are bad sectors due to a possibly bad hard disk or is the windows 8 image still hiding on there.  Doubtful if the partitions were removed.
        Can anyone tell me what happened?  Is there anyway to get windows 8 back onto the laptop without buying it again? Any assistance would be greatfully accepted.
    [Moderator edit to remove serial number.]

    I wanted to login to iCloud from my ipad to view my calendar.  The message was that I needed to set up iCloud on the device but I have and it won't give me the login screen.  What am I missing? Thank you.

    I'm assuming you are trying to log in using Safari on your ipad - if this is the case, you can't do that on an iOS device.  You must use the Calendar app on the device.  If you are using someone else's device, then you have a problem doing this.  I just tried using Chrome on an iPad and that also doesn't work.  If there's on nearby, use a computer's browser, that works.

  • Customized netweaver login screen needs seperate login for every mime

    Hi all,
    we are running ECC6 and have customzed our netweaver login screen (copied CL_ICF_SYSTEM_LOGIN to <ownClass>, redefined HTM_LOGIN, maintained it in SICF, etc.).
    And it works great - but:
    At the first call the system wants login/pw of each mime used on the login screen.
    But only for the first time.
    I can't repeat it.
    But it happens to every user.
    Correctly deleting cookies (close all screens; control->internet options-> delete cookies) CANNOT repeat the behaviour.
    Globally invalidating http server cache CANNOT repeat the behaviour.
    mimes on login screen are called like:
    https://<servername>:<https-port>/sap/bc/bsp/sap/public/bc/bsp/<applname>/xy.jpg
    So we need a login to see our login screen
    pls help...

    > All URLs under /sap/public run with user SAPSYS and so don't need any login.
    Bugger here is that the code which retrieves the object from the MIME repository makes an authorization check.
    CL_MIME_SERVICES method -> MIME_CHECK_AUTHORITY
    So it cannot run under SAPSYS as the user cannot be assigned any authority, let alone S_DEVELOP... (which in my opinion is much too strict here...). You will need to save a SERVICE user's logon credentials into the ICF service to make it visible to the user who has not logged in yet.
    Or... use SSO..
    Cheers,

  • Startup Leads to Darwin/BSD Login Screen

    After scouring this discussion forum for solutions to my problem, I've come up with multiple partial answers, but nothing that really fixes my system. I was working in Photoshop (CS2) yesterday when the program quit and refused to open again. So I shut it down and rebooted the machine. The gray screen with the Apple and the progress bar came up for about 10 minutes, then switched to a black console Darwin/BSD login screen. Unfortunately, I don't know my login, because my machine is set to auto-login.
    I found this old post:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=1545778&#1545778
    Which was VERY helpful. I followed Michael Conniff's directions carefully, checking the log and running 'fsck'. But the error messages I'm seeing are different than the ones listed in that post.
    I tried restoring the NetInfo database, as per the previous post, but when I rebooted, I still got stuck at the gray screen with the Apple logo.

    AuthorizationRef doesn't have a usernameYou really should start a new Topic instead of tagging on to an old one, since frogface's problem has moved on from his original post.
    However, given the current behaviour of the forums I will reply here if I can, since there's no guarantee of me seeing a new topic
    Standard post follows:
    Where the system log shows "AuthorizationRef doesn't have a username" followed by "exiting to console", the NetInfo database is corrupt. so we will need to give you a new one. This will involve re-creating the user accounts (don't worry, this doesn't take too long) but the order in which they are created matters. I recommend you print this out in a largish mono-spaced font so you don't miss any spaces (or add extra ones). Note that case is important.
    Start up in Single User Mode (see Mac OS X: How to Start up in Single-User or Verbose Mode for details) and type carefully:
    /sbin/fsck -fyRepeat the above until it says your disk is OK. Then:
    /sbin/mount -uw /
    cd /var/db/netinfo
    mv -f local.nidb/ local.nidb.bad
    rm -f /var/db/.AppleSetupDone
    ls -ln /UsersThis last command will give you one line for each user, plus one for the "Shared" directory, which doesn't interest us. Each user will have a line like one of these:

    rebootWhen you restart, you should get the Setup Assistant, just as if it was a new machine. You will be prompted for all of your user information. Be careful to use the same short name as previously for user 501.
    If there are any further users, these can be added, in the order of their UIDs, i.e. 502, 503 …, using System Preferences > Accounts. Again, be careful to use the same shortname. If there are any gaps in the UID sequence 501, 502, … you will need to create dummy users to fill them. These can later be deleted.
