The option for the headphones and/or external speakers are not an option in the hardware config. Brand new computer right out of the box. HP Compaq Elite 8300 Small Form Factor

You will not be able to upgrade that PSU, model # 508154-001. It is not possible with those connectors. The most absurd item was that the hardware (drives) actually are powered off the motherboard. (Just like you said).

Headphone and other audio jacks not working on msi GT 70

I was wondering if anyone could tell me why the headphone jack isn't working properly on my new laptop. When I plug them in it only works in one ear and the onboard speakers still play. Also nothing pops up from realtek when I plug them in. I have already tried uninstalling and reinstalling the newest version of realtek.
I have been having a heck of a time with the graphics cards. It will not default to the Nvidia GTX 670MX when I am in a program such as adobe premiere pro or photoshop. I went into Nvidia and changed the certain programs that I wanted to run the Nvidia card - still wont run off of it. I changed the global setting to Nvidia - still nothing. Finally I just disabled the intel driver in the device manager. It works fine now except exported video is very glitchy on the players. It plays the videos fine when I enable the intel driver again.
I guess I can live with the graphics card problems, but can't live without the headphones working. Any help is greatly appreciated

[RESOLVED] How can I use front headphones and rear speaker jack as separate output ports?

My Optiplex 7010 has your usual onboard sound configuration -- speaker and microphone jacks in both the front and rear. Recently my USB headset (which I use for conference calls) developed a short and while I wait for a new set to arrive, I'm temporarily
using an old set that still needs mini stereo jacks.
So I plugged the headset in to the front jacks, and left the external speakers plugged in to the rear jacks. Unfortunately the Windows sound configuration for this system only recognizes one "High Definition Audio Device" and if I plug in the headset,
the external speakers stop working.
My goal is to have phone/Lync calls go through the headset, but all other sounds -- most importantly contact alerts -- go through the external speakers. Is that possible? OS is Windows 7 Enterprise.
[edited to close this question] The short answer is, you can't get there from here unless your sound card supports assigning a different device name to the front jacks vs. the back jacks, which mine does not.

Fairly sure that would depend on the specific sound card in the machine and the drivers and related software you have installed on your machine. By default I believe most sound cards are configured to report to Windows that you have one sound input/output,
so the same sound comes from both front and back depending on what you have plugged into them. In order to get Windows to see them as separate connections and allow you to send different sound output to each you'd need to configure that in your sound card
driver software.

where to configure it. I don't know if your machine is using a Realtek card for sure, if not you'd obviously need the driver software for the card, but looking online it looks like the OptiPlex 7010's do indeed use them.

If you are using an HDMI connection, go to Apple / System Preferences / Sound and see if you can select the Built-In Speakers?
If you have headphones, buds or something plugged into the Audio Output jack, unplug it.
If not then perhaps the micro switch inside the Audio Output jack is stuck? In that case, try plugging and unplugging some headphones, buds or something in and out a few times to see if it will un-stick.
If it will not un-stick, then you will need to make an appointment for service.

MS-7030 Motherboard front headphone and rear speaker out

I need help on my setting for the K8N Platinum Neo (MS-7030) Motherboard, so that I could have both the front headphone and rear speaker out working.
As in the manual (Page 2-20), for the Line-Out connector on the back panel to function, I have to jumpered pins 5 & 6, 9 & 10. This will disable the front audio headphone.
But I need both to work, then how should be my setup?

I wanted the same thing - rear speaker connection plugged in permanently but the possibility of plugging in headphones to the front connector when I need them.
My speakers have an SPDIF (coax) socket and I found to my pleasant surprise that removing the jumpers to redirect the line-out signal to the front does not interfere with audio out through SPDIF.
So one answer (if your speakers support it) is to take out the jumpers, use SPDIF for the rear speakers and plug the phones in the front when you need them.
(I have the Neo Plat but haven't updated my sig yet).
[edit] Continuing the theme, if you don't have SPDIF input and given that it's only the line-out signal that is redirected, you can get a coax cable for the SPDIF out and a converter to go between the cable and your speaker jack input. I used just such a converter (just 1"/2cm long) for my KT3 board which had SPDIF out on an S-bracket but MSI brilliantly used a standard 2.5mm jack socket for it!

Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
Before you reinstall the Apple software, also remove iCloud vi Control Panel Remove programs. The reinstall the Apple programs

If you are using automatic syncing with your old iPod, select that iPod in iTunes and go to its Music tab (next to Summary). Note how this Music tab is set up. Maybe you can do a screen shot.
Now, select the new iPod in iTunes. Go to its Music tab, like you did for the old iPod. Set up the new iPod's Music tab exactly like the old iPod, and Apply the change.
The music on your new iPod should now match the old iPod.

Another item I'd found when getting an SD card for an older camera was the lack of backward support from the SD card if it was too new, while a newer camera can sometimes use an older SD card at a slower read-write speed. There are limits and ceilings on what kind of card works with old/new stuff.
So I ended up taking a nice SD card back to one store and had to settle on a 'walmart kinda dubious kingston two pack a cure' for the older Panasonic Lumix. Smaller capacity but seems to work OK for the era. I don't trust kingston with macs, but this 10 y/o Lumix seems to not care about that.
Hopefully you can obtain the correct cards, because some stores only sell parts for their inventory of cameras. And some adapters are limited too.
Depending on what I'm doing with the card and the camera it goes with, I attach the camera to the computer and not just the card in a reader. That way I can file items inside the camera SD card in a way the camera won't overwrite them. Later when I save everything from the card into an external hard disk drive, all my filed folders of images by date (I created in the SD) appear in order, in the later archive. Easier too, when I burn to DVD or CD media, to create yet another archive away from the computer or the camera.

[SOLVED] Pulseaudio, sound coming from both headphone and laptop speak

I switched to PulseAudio a while back, everything is working fine, except I can't find a way to get sound "only" in headphones.
"Built-in Audio Analog Stereo" has three Ports: 'Analog Output', 'Speakers' and 'headphones'. Choosing Speakers give no sound, and choosing Analog output and headphones gives sound from both headphones (if it's attached) and laptop speakers.
I have pavucontrol installed but can't find any option for it in it either. Any suggestions?

That code looks specific to that sound card, though I tried it anyways, by changing
device=hw:M2496
to
device=hw:1
(where 1 is index of my card), but now I can't get any sound from my sound card. I have commented out those lines, removed .config/pulse, restarted pulseaudio, restarted laptop, but I still can't get any sound from that soundcard anymore. (EDIT: Apparently sound was muted in Kmix (thought it wasn't in pavucontrol), don't know how that works, maybe I missed something, anyways, I am again getting sound, but everything else is same.)
And my original problem still remains.
I am assuming if I know the names of channels (for headphone and laptop speaker), I can create a new sink/source and use that to route the sound properply, but I can't figure out exactly how to do all that.

I believe the keys on an imac are F11 and F12, for dark / bright respectively.
Try that, I think it'll work.
If not, then try out all the "F" keys, one of them will work.

You need to follow the instructions in the article you reference, restore using the recovery mode as described in http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1212 which should also make iTunes see the iPad.
