Headphone jack input

Can I input audio through the headphone jack? What I am looking to do is transfer audio recordings from a tape recorder (old lectures) into the iPod, transfer them to my Mac, then use Toast to burn them to a CD.

I have transferred old taped stuff to CD.
I plugged a patch cord into the microphone jack played the tape and recorded it with a program called Sound Studio.
With sound studio you can choose the type of file you want to save it as. You can also enhance the quality of the recording.
The file can be saved as an mp3 and transferred to the ipod if you want. You only need to burn a CD if you want the file on that media. It is not a necessary step to getting the tape onto the ipod
Works like a charm.
Sound studio was not expensive and I believe I downloaded it from the net.

  • Housing is broken by headphone jack input

Hi there! I bought a 16gb iPod Nano (7th Gen) less than a year ago. This is the third iPod that I've owned and have never had an issue. Until this one. The housing by the headphone jack input has broken. Can anyone here give me insight on what I need to do to get it either replaced, or repaired? I still have the box, but I don't have the receipt.
Here's a picture of the housing.

    How did it happen?
Make a Genius Bar appointment at your nearest Apple Store. You don't need the receipt.

You should also ask this in the MacBook Pro forum. This is the forum for the white and black plastic MacBooks that were discontinued in 2010. You should also post this question there to increase your chances of getting an answer.

  • How to I change my headphone jack to a input jack

I have a macbook pro and wonder if I can change the headphone jack it an input jack so I can copy my record collection.  Other sites said to look for a drop down under sound but these isn't that option on my computer

so there is no way to input sound?
Keep in mind that serious audio enthusiasts would not use a built-in audio input, because of the high level of RF noise inside any computer case and to use a better jack than the mini 1/8" jack used on most Macs and PCs. So even if a computer had a built-in port, those enthusiasts would still prefer to use an external USB (or FireWire) interface for better quality and more input connector types.
Because a wide range of these interfaces are sold from cheap to pro, there are actually lots of ways to input sound into your Mac.
If you do copy your record collection, make sure that the interface or the USB turntable includes a proper photo pre-amp.

  • IPod not working with headphones or input jack

I guess I'm probably effed, but I dropped my iPod mini today, and now it only works thru my computer. not thru headphones or input jacks. I imagine I damaged my input device.
    Any ideas?

Consider setting up a mail-in repair for your iPod http://depot.info.apple.com/ipod/
Or visit your local Apple Retail Store http://www.apple.com/retail/
In case your iPod is no longer covered by the warranty (or warranty does not covering the dropping)and you want to find a second repairing company, you can try iPodResQ or ifixit at your own risk

  • How to use headphone jack as audio input

I just bought a 13" Macbook Air.  I can not seem to find the setting to use my headphone jack as an audio input.  How do I get audio in to record with Quick Time and Garage band??  I am using a sound board that works fine with my 13" Macbook Pro.  I do sound for a christian band and they like to relisten to make changes to the songs and sermon.

the macbook Air uses a 4 contact headSET jack, .....instead of a speaker and mic jack (2 jacks).
headphone (typical) output (or Mic input) jack on LEFT...........headSET 4 position on right (for both output and input/Mic)

  • Input won't work, Headphone jack's gone mono

A little while back I was doing some home recording running direct into my Macbook.
After doing a bass track I lost all direct input signal and ever since I can only hear the left side through the headphone jack.
The bass player I was recording failed to mention we were running 4ohms out the back of his amp and I think it may have blown my input/output. The internal speakers still work so I think the sound card is fine.
Any insight on this would be wonderfully help full.

yip it sounds like you have fried a circuit..
have u tried different head phones? the input/output should be different circuits so not sure y the output is going funny?
you looked at the input/output settings on the macbook?? what about the "AUDIO MIDI SETUP"?? it may have an inbuilt cutoff that tripped??? well hopping it has for ur sake..
    good luck...

I connected my iPod Touch to a stereo system phono input using a cable with stereo jacks (red and white) on one end and that plugs into the iPod's headphone jack.  The problem is that the sound is extremely muffled and bass-heavy, with little treble.  I have to turn the bass control on the stereo receiver to pratically zero in order for the sound coming through the stereo to be acceptable.  Is there a setting on either the iPod or the stereo that I need to change in order to fix this?

The phono input is for a phonograph.  The iPod does headphne output is not that same as a phongraph output.  Does th stero have an AUX input?  That should be compatible.

  • 8pre for input, MBP headphone jack as monitor... HOW???

I'm going to be running four microphones off of the 8pre and would really like to be able to monitor the audio via the MBP's headphone jack as opposed to the phones jack on the 8pre. In something like garageband, this is pretty simple to do, but I'm having a devil of a time finding how to do it with Logic Express.

I answered my own question. Aggregate device is the answer. One just must remember once it's set up in Audio/MIDI, you still need to tell Logic which ports to output from - that was my biggest stumbling block with this setup.

  • Is it possible to use a cable with two headphone jacks on either end and an electric guitar adapter to record in Garageband?

    Hey everyone,
I got my Macbook Air (Mid 2013 model) last month and I want to record my acoustic-electric guitar on Garageband (which came with the Air).
I don't want to buy a guitar that has a USB. I have a cable with a 3.5 mm headphone jack on both ends like the one pictured here on this website http://www.bestdealaz.com/item.php?id=628 (i didn't buy it from this site though).
I connected a 6.3 mm guitar adapter (http://www.ebay.com/bhp/headphone-guitar-adapter) to this cable. Then I connected one end of the cable to my guitar and the other end to the Headphone/Microphone jack on the left side of the MBA.
I saw how other people were saying to go to System Preferences / Sound and then change audio output to audio input.
    I can't do that. I tried.
    Please help!
    Thank you.

    Hello Massimo Pascucci,
The issue that you are facing when creating an endpoint with internal loadbalancer is the limitation of not allowing same ports to be listening under a single cloud service. This reason for this is that there is a limitation of only one private IP (Also
known as the Internal load balanced IP) per cloud service.
There is also a limitation on the Internal load balancer more than one port to be published per load balancer:

  • "Squelchy" noise from external speakers plugged into headphone jack

I get a strange, warmly, high pitched static continuous "squelchy" noise from my external powered speakers when I have them plugged in via cable to the headphone jack of my iPad (3rd gen). The noise occurs only with the iPad - the noise is not present with other devices, such as my iPhone 4S, older iPhone 3G, or my Samsung Galaxy or Toshiba Thriven (both Android devices). Also, the noise is present only with external speakers - never with headphones. Doesn't happen with Bluetooth audio.
The pitch of the squelchy noise seems to be related to how much load the iPad processor is under, though I can't say for sure. I honestly have no idea why it's making this noise. I thought it might be a ground loop issue which occurred only when I had external powered speakers plugged in while the iPad was also plugged in, but the noise happens when the iPad is running on battery, as well.
Does anyone have any ideas how I might get rid of this noise?

I don't know if this could be your problem, but...
On some systems the BIOS will sometimes disable the on-board audio controller at startup if it doesn't detect anything connected to the inputs or outputs (older HP computers did this to me ).  You usually need to enter the BIOS and permanently enable the On-board Audio by changing the setting from 'Auto Detect' to 'Enabled'.
    Hope that helps.

  • Headphone Jack Dying

My headphone jack no longer works. I was hoping that maybe someone could recommend a product that can connect through the dock connecter, but still be portable. and ideas?

I have tried to do few searches for you and hardly find any earphones with the dock connector, unlucky the new Nano's earphones cant fit it as it comes with an additional minijack. I have asked a technician in Hong Kong, he suggested that you can buy an (USB) dock adapter and cut the USB-end plug and replace it with a minijack (input) and plug an ordinary earphones with it.
