Headphone jack is messed up

Ok so my headphone jack wont work i plug in my headphones and it just keeps playing out of my computer but the only way i can get sound to my headphones is if i shut it then plug in the headphones and open it. but if i take out the headphones then it wont work again unless i shut my computer and then plug in the headphones

If you have any autio enhancement programs from Toshbia you should uninstall them. I had the same issue with the volume being too low and flat and I uninstalled the 2 Audio programs that were for enhancing or EQ'ing the sound and it resolved the issue. Just make sure you do not uninstall your driver. The driver is the only thing you need.
I have a Toshiba Satellite P70 customized laptop.

Headphone is not repairable. Please visit

  • Alarm Clock messes up the UI responsiveness and headphone jack is messed up.

I have a problem where the alarm going off makes the UI almost impossible. I have to keep tapping on the snooze or the disabling button until it finally takes my input, it is aggravating. Another one is that when I tap on the headphones, from the jack, the music switches to handset, I have to tap it a bit hard and at a certain point again to get it to switch back to headset.
The headset jack problem got worse in an update with 6.0(later type of 6.0 version), so I reverted(maybe the first 6.0 version), but that doesn't fix the problem, still, but it is less aggravating than before.

  • Help! my headphone jack is messed up

Everytime I put my headphones in my Ipod, it sounds terrible. Static, rumbles, on and off of the music, and volume changes. Most of the time the static, rumbles, etc. come out of only one headphone, the left one. I've tried about three different headphones, and they all do the same thing, so it's not the headphones. I've also tried resetting my Ipod, and it's still doing it. I have a Ipod Classic 80gb, on the back of the box it came in, it says the year 2007. Anyone know how much this costs to be repaired? any help will be much appreciated. Also, if I posted on the wrong discussion board I'm sorry, this is my first time posting on this forum. Thanks for the help.

Any repair needed for an iPod Classic 80GB out of warranty is going to cost $129. Try to see if there is any debris inside the actual headphone port, maybe some dirt or dust. If there isn't and you've tried multiple sets of headphones a repair is most likely needed to fix the iPod.

  • Another headphone jack prob

I appear tbe having the same problem as everyone else, a dodgy headphone jack that messes uo unless it is kept entirely still (defeats the whole purpose of a portable music player).
But, I'm also having a problem in that the headphones have to be unplugged in order for my player to remain switched off. If they are left plugged in then as soon as you switch the player off it turns back on! A complete waste of battery and just annoying.
Has anyone else had this problem?
I bought the Micro over the i-pod as I'd read such good reviews about it, more fool me!

As per the FAQ post, no-one knows if an updated player has been issued.

  • Headphone jack buzzing

My ipod touch headphone jack is messed up.  everytime i use the jack the speakers buzz really loud.  i know its not the headphones because it does it to everything i plug it into.  it works fine with out any speakers plugged in to it.

It sundls like you need to get the headphone jack replaced.  Apple will only exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for:
Apple - Support - iPod - Repair pricing
There are third-party places tham may be less expensive.  Here is one, Google for others.

  • Messed up headphone jack

the headphone jack on my classic 5g video 30g only plays in one ear and its not the headphone jack because i replaced it twice and its not the headphones because i tried 5 pairs.  i have the same problem on another ipod aswell another 5g video 60g any ideas?

Probably you can't do nothing by self if your warranty is vaild. This can be hardware problem.  But first you have to make sure that everything is ok with your headphones ... Have you tested it on other laptop?
You can also check headphones output on some Linux Live distribution, but I doubt that this is software problem...

  • IPOD touch. - Headphone jack no longer working.

I'm new to this site, and it's sincerely making me angry.
I got an ipod touch NG december 2008. It ran fine, but it seems as soon as my warranty ran out, the headphone jack decided to mess up. Now, I only get audio out of my right headphone, and not the left. It is not to do with the headphones, as I've tried multiple pairs. So, now I read that I have to pay 99 dollars for a repair fee? Is this how it is? Or are there any loopholes around that ridiculous fee considering I paid three hundred dollars for something I expected to actually work.
Has anyone else had this problem? How'd you fix it?
I'm sincerely annoyed with apple, and very much considering changing MP3 forms. Because, my family have all owned a certain IPOD product, and they've all had problems.
    Someone, please reply.

the same thing happened to me but i didnt know it would cost about 100 bucks to repair. ive tried it with 3 diffrent pairs of headphones

  • My iPod touch (3rd generation) has been going to voice control constantly and on top of that, I think my headphone jack is destroyed...what can I do?

My iPod is a 3rd generation used iPod I bought at Gamestop this past January. At first, it was working great, but roughly around August and September did it start it's annoying "voice control" thing along with it messing with the headphone jack. I think I destroyed the jack, and maybe have broken something inside after toying with it repeatedly to get it to work, but all my iPod is good for now is a paper weight and for the apps. I can't listen to a song with out it going to voice control, or the headphone jack fizzing in and out. I've gone through maybe three pairs of headphones trying to get it to work properly and headphones aren't the cheapest things ever. My ipod is up to date, I've had to reset it constantly, week after week it seems like, but nothing seems to fix the problem. I'm getting so infuriated, that I might just break down to purchase a new one, or to give up on it completely and revert back to the iPod nanos. At least those didn't give me any issues when I used it.

Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for this price. They do not fix yours.
    Apple - iPod Repair price
A third-party place like the followingwill replace the jack for less. Google for more.
iPhone Repair, Service & Parts: iPod Touch, iPad, MacBook Pro Screens
    Replace the jack yourself
    iPod Touch Repair – iFixit
It is very likely the jack is causing the VC problem since VC uses the jack for input.

  • Headphone Jack doesn't work and internal speakers are stuck in mute.

So I have an 18' macbook pro with a 2GHz Intel Core i7 and running version Mac OS X (10.7.5). I recently dropped my computer off my lap while my headphones were still in. The headphone jack smashed into the computers headphone output jack I took out the headphones and they still work but now no matter what pair of headphones I use I cannot hear anything when plugged in. As well when I take out the headphones the sound output does not switch back to internal speakers but says Digital Out. I know the speakers work because when I was messing the out jack because I read when a red light is on inside the jack (which it goes on and off) means it is stuck in mute. That however has not worked so far and neither has putting in and taking out the headphone jack.

Use OnyX to clean your system and User cache files. It's free to download. Just click on the "Automation" tab, check the boxes and run it.

  • T540p headphone jack stopped working

I have a T540p, a little over a month old. Sometime in the last week (not sure of the exact date) the headphone jack in my machine abruptly stopped working. I've tried multiple sets of (known to be working) headphones in the jack, and they're definitely recognized when I plug them in (they pop up as "plugged in" in the list of playback devices in windows sound manager). The regular speakers work fine, but no sound comes out of headphones.
I am pretty certain that this is NOT a driver/software issue. I haven't tried messing with drivers yet, but I dual-boot Windows 7 and Linux Mint, and the problem is identical on either operating system, so I have my doubts that the drivers on both systems failed simultaneously. Any suggestions? Thanks.

    Hi Mo,
Since the issue exists in different operating systems, the chances of driver failure are minimal. It sounds like a mechanical issue with your audio jack. I would strongly recommend you to contact our technical support for assistance.

  • The headphone jack desease has cought me too

Well after like 2 months of having my zen micro.. the headphone jack is screwing up on me... sound shuts off.. i hear only the backround of the songs.. sometimes i hear the music in mono.. i dont know what to do i cant even listen to my music any more cuz it keeps messing up when its in my pocket or just sitting...
what should i do? i bought it strait from creative.
    thanks

Me and my roomate both have Zen Micros, bought around when they first came out, so they were probaly some of the first models. His jack went out after about a month, mine lasted 2. We both sent them in with little hassle and got replacements promptly. But he has had the replacement for less than a month and the jack is starting to get screwy again, leading me to believe that they have not fixed an obvious manufacturing flaw but are just sending out replacements. The warranty on my player just ran out, but you can bet your ass if the headphone jack gives out again I will not be paying for it to get fixed. I think it's ridiculous that a company with such a good reputation wouldn't take proper action against a flaw like this and issue some form of recall or extended warranty for the problem. Happy for now, even though i do have to re-transfer all my files.Message Edited by Velvetunder66 on 05-4-2005 :46 PM

  • Headphone jack distorted, but internal speakers fine?

I haven't even had it a day and I've already run into problems on my Macbook 2.2GHz C2D. It seems the internal speakers work just fine for music, but when I plug in headphones or earbuds into the output jack the vocals and anything that's not panned hard left/right basically goes away. And when I plug in a stereo system to the output jack it gives me a loud low frequency hum. This happens both in Leopard and in XP (I have both installed on the macbook). No red light in the output jack, and everything else works just fine (although I recently noticed I no longer get an XP boot screen... Kind of odd, but it may have to do with the fact that I have so much RAM installed).
What's weird is, if I go into the system sound preferences either in XP or Leopard and mess with the left/center/right balance, all the way left or right the vocals come back in (although it's still in both ears, which it shouldn't be), but when you center the balance you lose everything that is centered in the mix (mainly, the vocals and any main instrument that's not panned hard left/right).
I tried updating my drivers, using different headphones/earbuds, wiggling the jack around, different songs and players, even went so far as to reformat and reinstall Leopard. Still messed up :-[
The only aftermarket modifications I've made has been an upgrade from 1GB to 4GB RAM and a boot camp install of XP. Unfortunately, as I'm going to be using this computer mainly for Pro Tools music production and editing, I really need the headphone jack to be at 100%!
Any suggestions? I'm thinking it's hardware related, as it happens both in XP and Leopard with all the latest drivers installed.

Try switching back to your previous ram and see if there is any difference. It may be hardware as you say, and a quick trip to your Apple tech should verify that. I work with audio too ...I like to use the Griffin iMic for both sound in and out - it's a USB devise that'll give you a better signal and keep your line in/out ports free so you're not jarring them when you have the small 1/8th adapters/cables plugged in.
