Headphone jack malfunctioning

The headphone jack in my less than 3 month old iPhone 4s is malfunctioning. I can't play music thru my external speaker and it only makes noise for my alarms and incoming calls. I can hear music thru my headphones, but that cuts out within 3 mins. My phone has not been dropped or exposed to water lately and I rarely use my headphones b/c the external speaker has been working up until Saturday night, but didn't work Sunday morning. My phone is not muted, and I've tried reseting and restoring it, but it still won't play...? Help?

I got this phone from my carrier Verizon as a replacement under warranty for other hardware problem with my old phone. Would you recommend taking it back to Verizon or should I try Apple?

  • The headphone jack malfunction Creative won't help me w

I have a Zen Micro 6GB with a headphone jack on life support. I've tried contacting Creative for the location of a repair depot, but since it's paid for and the warranty's finished they've quit responding. I guess I'm on my own now, and it may not be a "Creative" solution that replaces the Zen. Supposing every company abandoned their customer after the warranty ran out. Wouldn't YOU try another brand Their website offered NO "creative" solutions, or direction to where you could get an otherwise good product once they had your money and had a replacement model to sell you. Well, I'm now looking at home repair, because unless I cough up for a long distance call to someone who may or may not have a repair solution for me, this puppy goes into the drawer with the other dead battery-operated devices, the electronic graveyard. Bye, Creative.

Jonz,?I also am a newbie and I joined to look for people with your Zen Micro headset problem, so I could pass on the help I got. When you read below, you will know why Creative won't help you--Too much to admit!!!. The below web site provides guidance on how to probably fix the problem you have. I just fixed my daughters after finding this fix. When you open up your Zen, you won't believe how cheap the soldering is on both the Headset and the USB connection points. It appears to be generic the 6GB Micro. So, its not IF your Headset won't work, its just WHEN. These are not electrical connections, but rather connections that keep both Headset and USB pieces from moving on the circuit bd. There are 8 total. On my daughter's Zen, one of the four on the Headset module was just sort of laying on top of its mounting point, letting the Headset connector move a lot on the board, as if no solder was installed at all. The other 7 looked they were just glued down--waiting to come loose. Two things not mentioned in the fix.
. When you take the metal casing out of the plastic cover, you may encounter two small cotter pins (not mentioned in the article). Instead of finding where they came from, I just reassembled the unit without them. No problem. 2. One of the Heaadset solder points (for me the one that was completely loose) is mid-on-the-board in between the?Headset and USB?connectors.
The soldering iron adaptor I had would not?reach the point without melting all the Headset plastic and?possibly frying the Headset connection beyond repair. Had to buy a Radio Shack circuit board soldering iron?for about $8 with a narrow shaft and?long tapered point to reach the point. Fix went perfectly. Good luck.

  • Headphone jack malfunction

Since I installed OS Mountain Lion, I've tried many headphones, but none work the way they are supposed to on the macbook pro. Only the right side works and eventhough the volume setting is on the highest, the sound is very low. The internal speakers work fine. I've seen many posts on this issue and have tried the possible fixes I've read, none have yet worked.

    Try a PRAM reset:

  • Headphone jack hardware malfunction?

My 5g 80GB ipod is less than a month old and something has gone wrong with the headphone jack. It's not the headphones - I've tried 3 different pairs. It sounds like there's a short - sometimes it plays for a little while, then cracks up and stops. If I wiggle the headphones where they're connected, sometimes is works again, but not usually. Anyone else have this issue?
macbook pro   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

Eberica I think I might have the same problem as you. Mine is I plug in my headphones and then it goes into pause mode I have to push play again for me too hear anything. I can listen for a few seconds then off it goes again sometimes it work for a min or two but it will go to pause again. I tried to play it in my car but it also does it with that extensions so I am not sure if it’s the iPod or what. I came home to do a reset did it and will try later today too see if that helped if it dose I will let you know that why you can try it and I hope it works for both of us. I also read someplace on this site that we should fully charge our iPods that it might help but like I said I will tell you if it helped so I did both.

  • Headphone Jack minor malfunction

I bought this great device back towards the end of August and its only been 3 weeks since i've had it. im having trouble with my headphone jack and i know for a fact that its totally not the headphones. i've tried 4 different headphones and they gave the same effect as the factory ones. i fiddles a little with the headphone plug and when it touches the rim of the jack, it loses sound. what can i do about it's? HELP ME!

Presumably a Zen Micro? If so, you're one of the many that have experienced it. Next port of call is Creative Support, links for contact are in the FAQ post.

  • IPod headphone-jack no longer making connection

The headphone-jack connection is worn-out. I've tried using 3 different headphones with the same male specifications and music was still audible from the iPod and not through any of the headphones. Thus, I am sure that the iPod headphone-jack is malfunctioning. It was purchased about a year ago, but it only has a one year warranty and I no longer have the receipt.
Any suggestions? It would be much appreciated.

The earphones must be pushed very hard into the iPod. So hard, that the white part of the plug must touch the iPod in order for the external speakers to turn off. You will hear a click.
If you do a forum search, you will find this same solution. If it does not work, you will need to take your iPod to an apple store or call the Apple iPod tech support if still under warranty or you have Apple Care.  You may have a hardware problem.

  • Where can I buy a new HEADPHONE JACK PCB for Zen Mic

    Hi,
I have resoldered my headphone jack 3 times, but it has once again started malfunctioning. This time, I tried superglueing the jack to the board, but I think I have accidentilly short-circuited some of the board that the jack rests on with the glue.
Where can I just buy a brand new board with the jack on it's Or does anyone have a scrapped Zen Micro with the part lying around? If anyone can provide info about where I can get a new board, please let me know.
    Thanks,
    Scott

Yeah, whatever <FONT color=#339900>i<t is, you can fint it on Ebay.
Just be careful, some of the things on ebay are not always what they seem. Depeding on the price, you may be better off buying a new player.

  • T400 speakers not working - headphone jack functional?!?

That happened some weeks ago, no software or hardware changes were made prior to speakers gone mute. The other day however speakers were back from malfunction and operative again 100% - for no apparent reason, but as soon i plugged headphone jack in and out - they were gone again!?!? Is there a catch or something that i'm doing wrong!?!? I've tried: removing and reinstalling sound card drivers (no success), different OS (no success), checked headphone jack for foreign objects (found nothing, it looks ok in comparison to other jack (microphone)). No warranty on this machine (expired). Any suggestions??? Thanks in advance.

  • The sound is playing up on my i-pad 2.It works thru the headphone jack and onlt spasmodically thru the speaker. When playing videos, music or utube the volue up/down slider isnt there any more. Help!

My i-pad 2 speaker sound has started playing up.
Sound works fine thru headphone jack but only some times thru the speaker.
Volume control on the ipad doesnt work and the on-screen slider volume controller is missing on apps like music, videos and u-tube.
After I have flaffed around with it I can get the slider back for a while but then it will just disappear and sound stops from speaker.
    Any advice appreciated.

I had the exact same issue with my iPhone 4S.  The news I got from Apple was that the internal sound card was malfunctioning, and they replaced the phone for free (still under warranty).  Hopefully, this is not whats happened to you, but the symptoms are the same :/

  • HT1665 iPhone 5 headphone jack problem

I have noticed that whenever I insert my earpods into the headphone jack, it sort of looks like the headphone jack is sort of tilted to where you can notice the earpods tilted. Is this a malfunction or is every iPhone 5 like that??

    Hey Johnmann.
just push it in harder, and it will click and then be in properly. i had the same problem, and took it back to the shop. the service centre guy had the same phone as i do, and showed me what to do.
    try it.
    peace

  • Audio jack malfunction

One channel of my audio jack is not working. Could anyone suggest a simple fix to this problem? Jiggling the output jack does not resolve the problem and I wonder if there is an inexpensive way to resolve it. Internal speakers both work so it seems to be a problem with the external audio 3.5 mm jack.

There are many, many threads on this same problem, and the best people seem to come up with is "physically wiggle the plug" but this seems ill-advised to me (not that I didn't try it, but it didn't work, and can't we do better?)

  • ITunes no longer keeps speakers running on headphone jack

iTunes no longer keeps my external speakers running when connected by audio cable to the headphones jack. After 1:45 min:sec, my Logitech Pure-Fi Anywhere 2 speakers power down when connected to my computer playing iTunes.
The speakers do not power down for audio generated from other sources on my computer. When I play a video or audio file through Safari or another browser, the speakers work fine. When I listen to an audio file by selecting it in the Finder using Apple-Y ("quick-view"), the speakers run continuously until the end of the track without powering down. When I use the speakers configured the same way with other software (such as Skype), they work fine.
The speakers do not power down for audio generated from other DEVICES. When I plug the speaker cable into the headphone jack of either my iPhone 3Gs or my partner's mp3 player and play audio, the speakers work continuously.
I've looked at trouble-shooting for iTunes and found nothing on the Apple site or the web or in the iTunes preferences to keeping wire external speakers live during iTunes playback. I've tried having the speakers connected to a power source or running on batteries but the problem is the same. I've reset the speaker device with no change. I've reinstalled iTunes, no change. The Apple Store genius bar cleared all caches and restarted, no change. They reinstalled the computer system, but found no change.

    Hi Dexterdawg
Can you direct me to the thread as I can not sort out the same problem on my iMac
    Thanks

  • Headphone Jack No Longer Works

Does anyone know of headphones that may plug into the bottom outlet of the iPod, where it connects usually to stereo equipment. My iPod still works with this connection, to charge it, to listen on my computer, on my stereo but the headphone jack no longer works so I can't use it in my car or at other times.

Ok I just talked to headroom and with this adapter you can go directly to a set of headphones or to one of their amps. Additionally the pin connector provides improved sound quality over the cheap headphone jack that comes stock on the ipod.

  • IPhone 4 headphone jack not working right.

So the headphone jack in my iPhone 4 i don't think is working properly. The right headphone does not put as much sound out as the left. I'm not sure why it was working perfectly just yesterday. I haven't dropped it or got water in it or anything. I tried plugging it in and unplugging it a few times, i reset my phone, turned it off then on and nothing seems to be working. Its not on silent and the volume thing is centered. Idk what could e happening. Help!!!

I would test the headset in another device such as a computer
and test another 3.5mm minijack headset in the phone to tell if it's the phone or headset

how do i use the headphone jack as an input on a macbook pro 9,2.... the option just isn't in the sound app.
all i have is the internal mic option, can anyone help?

You should also ask this in the MacBook Pro forum. This is the forum for the white and black plastic MacBooks that were discontinued in 2010. You should also post this question there to increase your chances of getting an answer.
