Headphone jack: normal headphones dont fit

I tried to plug headphones in to my computer the other day, but ran into a problem: the headphone jack on the computer is too small for standard headphines! I dont understand this at all... I thought there was only one size of headphone jack. I tried two pair of headphones, both normal ones that fit into Iphones and everything else I have ever used them on. Are there special headphones for HP? When I googled this problem, I couldnt find anything.

Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have looked into your issue about your HP Pavilion 11 x360 PC and issues with the Headphone or earbud not fitting. Your notebook supports a device cable that has a 4-conductor
connector that supports audio-out.
Your manual page 12 shows the head-phone jack located in the middle of your volume control and usb port on the left side of the Notebook.

Modifying headphones to fit iPhone, my results - add your own

Like many others, I'm sure, I decided to try cutting some of the rubber away on my headphones' jacks so they would fit my iPhone properly. I thought I'd post my results and see if anyone else had experience with which headphones lend themselves more and less to this option.
I tried modifying my Koss Porta Pro headphones first, and it worked out extremely well. The rubber is very soft and the spot where it becomes thinner is a perfect place to cut, almost looks like it was suppose to be like that. They fit snugly in the iPhone now and sound great. Unfortunately using them with an iPhone doesn't make them look any less like they're from the 80s.
I tried the same technique with my Sony Street Style foldable headphones with less success. My first attempt (again at the spot where they get thinner) apparently wasn't far enough back and the jack fit in, but only at one angle (with the cord facing the hold switch), and if rotated they would unplug. I tried again and eventually got it cut far back enough to work, but there were two layers of plastic, and the bottom layer is much much tougher to get through, also the result wasn't very pretty. They do fit snugly in the iPhone now, and still sound fine, but it wasn't nearly as easy.
If anyone has tried this on a pair of Bose Around Ear headphones I would love to know how that went. I'm thinking about getting a pair but I don't really want to carry around one of those Belkin adapters.

I forgot I have a pair of Sennheiser PX200s. They have a straight plug that looks pretty skinny so I thought they might not need to be modified, no dice though. The rubber is similar to that of the Koss headphones so the cut was easy, since it's a round straight jack you can just roll the jack under a knife to make a straight cut, but there's no real guide for where to do it because it's all uniform thickness. In the process I cut some sort of small clear plastic piece underneath, hopefully it wasn't critical (heh), but they still feel sturdy and sound fine, and of course fit in the iPhone now.

Is a loose headphone jack normal?

I just got a nano 3G for my birthday, but the headphone jack seems loose. The headphones seem to wiggle in the jack and easily fall out. If I'm running, it sometimes stops mid-song because of the jiggle. Is this a result of the design (jack being on a curved surface), or should I exchange it for a new one? It does this with all the headphones I've tried, and I want to know if anyone else has encountered this issue or if mine is defective......

I took the nano back to the store tonight, and the counter tech guy couldn't click it in properly either. It just wiggled in the jack, and he claimed that he'd never seen this problem before. They exchanged it for an identical new one, and now Katie is a happy girl! Thanks!

Headphones dont work only speakers

When i plug in my headphones no sound comes out of the head phone just the speaker. I dont know if you have to go to settings to change something.

Thanks for the question. I understand you are experiencing issues with your iPad 2 and headphones. The following resource may provide a solution, while it was written for the iPhone, most of the steps are applicable for your issue:
No sound through stereo headset
1. Inspect the headset jack for debris and clean if necessary.
2. Connect the headset and make sure the connector is pushed in all the way.
3. Check the volume setting. Adjust the volume by pressing the volume up and down button on the left side of the iPhone.
4. If you are trying to listen to music and cannot hear any audio, make sure that the music on iPhone is not paused. Try squeezing the headset microphone to resume playback. Additionally, from the Home screen you can choose Music > Now Playing, then tap Play.
5. Make sure the latest version of iTunes is installed on the computer that you are syncing the iPhone with (songs purchased from the iTunes Store using earlier versions of iTunes won't play).
6. Try another Apple headset (some third-party headsets require an adapter to be used with original iPhone).
7. Try a different song or video.
8. Check to see if the iPhone alert sounds or other iPhone sound effects exhibit the same audio issues.
9. Disconnect the headset from the iPhone and see if sound comes from the built-in speaker.

Hello,
The problem with my skype is that although I connect my headphones to the computer, the sound does not come through the headphones. The sound comes via the laptop speakers as if I am using the skype without any headphones. It becomes very inconvenient as everyone around me can then listen to my conversation. The headphones work fine with all other applications on my laptop like youtube, itunes or anything that I play on the laptop. It just doesnt work with skype. I uninstalled and installed skype again still the same things happen. Please help me out with this problem.

If you've tried several pairs and none work try doing a hard reset. If that doesn't correct the problem, take it to an Apple Store.

Try clearing the smart connect application.
Menu > Settings > Apps > All > Smart Connect > Clear Data.
Once done try using the headphones.

Flash button text dont fit!

when i create a flash button, the text i have provided for

What do you mean by 'does not work' ? If you would like help from these user-to-user forums then more info would be useful.
Do they songs show in the Purchased link under Quicklinks on the right-hand side of the iTunes store homepage on your computer's iTunes ? If they do, but they don't have the cloud symbol against them for redownloading, then do you still have them listed in the Music part of your library (where you would click on them to play them) ? If you do then try deleting them from there and they should then get the cloud symbol against them in Purchased for redownloading.
If you are in a country where music can't be redownloaded,or if you've changed countries since buying them or they are no longer in your country's store (content providers occasionally remove their content), then you will need to copy them back from your backup of your downloads/library.

Sometimes when Flash is embedded into a page, it doesn't resize proportionally when you zoom. Could you try adjusting the zoom level and see whether that helps?
* Hold down Ctrl and tap the + key to enlarge, and the - key to reduce
* Hold down Ctrl and tap 0 (zero) to return to the base level of zoom
* Or use the zoom buttons on the "3-bar" button menu panel

Headphone Jack seems loose.

I just got my Ipod nano, and maybe its just me - but the headphones dont fit very snugly into the jack. A tiny tug pulls them out, which is a pain when putting it in my pocket or etc. Is this normal, or am I just paranoid?

DOH! Didn't apply enough pressure, they snapped right in. MUCH better.

Thrid party headphones

I have a great pair of very expensive sony headphones and want to use it on my IPS. however the headphones dont fit in properly and the left headphones only works if it is in a certain position.
upon research i discovered if i buy the apple sports case i get a wire extender that overcomes this problem. only problem is i dont want to spend £19 to purcase it simply for a simple piece of wire. does anyone know where i can buy just the wire or a similar item

hmmm. i didn't even bother with the included buds, just assumed they were crap, so, i ordered some Sony's at the same time, no problems... sony ain't great but they're a little better, I don't think i'll go with in-ear ones in the future, the big ones sound better and cause less damge to your ears.

Headphone jack does not fit in iPhone socket

My brand new pair of Bose MIE2 headphones don't fit in the iPhone socket.
This is the original iPhone with the recessed socket.
I purchased these headphones because my old pair of Bose headphones stopped working. They used to be pretty good headphones, and fit perfectly into the iPhone socket. This new model, which is supposed to be for mobile phones, doesn't fit.
I can't return the headphones to the store, as they do not have a return policy. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on how I could get them to fit into the iPhone?
If I apply a lot of pressure, then the rubber warps a little, and it goes in, and I can hear audio perfectly, but the moment I release the pressure, the audio dissappears as the jack comes out of the socket.

OK,,, I guess I will have to try,, but the way the hole is structured, I am afraid to push too hard, and perhaps have the plastic around the metal rim crack the top of the unit from the stress. Is this a one and only time I have to go through, because I have given it a more than ample push,, and if I have to experience that every time.. I had better go to the Genius bar to find out if I can get one with a more forgiving insert. I will also go to the Rogers store and see if I get the same experience on their demo

Headphone jack fits bose but not beats

i have and Early 2011 13" Macbook Pro, My Bose headphones cord fits in the jack, but my Beats headphone cord wont, but both cords fit and work in my iphone and other jacks perfectly.

The built-in speakers and microphone should also be able to work with Windows default High Definition Audio Driver. Have tested out on my W520. alex1906 have already typed out on how to test out whether your device is working or not.
