Headphone jack on the X-Fi I/O drive makes everything go mute.

>Headphone jack on the X-Fi I/O dri've makes everything go mute.eBefore we begin...
Yes, my dri've is hooked up correctly.
Yes, the volume knob on the headphones are turned up.
Yes, I do have the latest drivers and software.
Running Windows 7 Home (64bit) and updated. ?All hardware is running latest drivers, software, and BIOS.
Now that that's out of the way, the headphone jack on the I/O dri've is causing problems. ?Audio comes out normally from the speakers. ?If I plug my the mic in to the mic jack on the I/O dri've, everything is fine. ?I can hear myself just fine through the normal speakers. ?Now if I connect to the headphone jack, everything goes mute. ?No sound from the headphones or speakers and the mic doesn't work. ?If I unplug the headphones, everything remains muted. ?Even after running diagnostics and restoring defaults, everything remains muted.
The funny thing is I can still plug into my case's headphone jack and music will play from it. ?Go figure.
The only solution thus far is a reboot. ?Unacceptable.
What's the problem and I how do I fix it's

B&Just realized that the Beta driver introduced a new problem. ?Although the inputs are now working, the sound is terrible. ?The volume keeps fluctuating rapidly (not the level that I can control). ?If you leave the volume at a set level, you can notice that it is behaving erradically.

    Michael,
Thanks. I haven't mixed down the audio or checked the number of tracks in Prefs. Good points.
As far as a mixdown goes, I'll definitely give it a try, though I wonder whether or not the tracks will be recognized during mix down recording - given that you can't hear either of those segments in playback. Just have to try.
Re the preferred number of allowed tracks - I'll go check as soon as I send this off, but I'm not sure that applies in this case, since the two Channels containing the segments that are pinked out are not in additional tracks. I should have mentioned that other audio clips and segments on the same Channels in the SAME tracks ARE heard in playback. As are two additional track in the 2nd Sequence. It's only when the two sequences are joined that the pink tinted segments can't be heard. Within the sequence the same audio cuts playback as they should. Thanks again &
    Best regards,
    David

  • Why is the headphone jack on the bottom?

I was really excited for the iPhone 5 but now I don't think I'll be getting one.  For me, changing the location of the headphone jack is entirely unnecessary.  I've been reading up on this, and the only reason I can find for it is because people say it's more "natural" to put their phone in their pocket upside down; this doesn't make any sense to me!  Is it really that hard to move your arm straight down to your pocket with your wrist straight instead of only rotating your elbow?  I find it irritating that I would have to store the phone upside down in my pocket, and that would just make it harder to adjust the volume or flick the vibrate on without taking it out of my pocket.  That's something I do all the time: walk into a classroom or theater, and need to make sure my phone is on silent without pulling it out and drawing attention to myself.
I also get that you can lay the phone flat on a desk and have the headphone cord hang off the edge.  But what about when I have the phone propped up?  I guess I can't do that anymore.  I also can't leave it upright in a cupholder while I drive.
I've been an iPhone user because I like how professional and uniform Apple products look.  But storing and displaying my phone upside down destroys that asthetic for me.  I know some people will say that orientation is a stupid thing to quibble about, but Steve Jobs was known to obsess over far smaller things (I'm not saying this was one of them), and that's what makes Apple products so well thought-out.
So what is the point of putting the headphone jack on the bottom?  Can anyone give me a real reason that I can support?  I really want to be able to get excited about this phone, but at this point I think it's unfortunately a deal-breaker for me.

Goldplatedrock, i agree with you. This is not an over reaction. Steve Jobs was meticulous with design and usability - and i am sure he would NOT have accepted the headphone jack going to the bottom. He was known to scrap designs 6 weeks before the first iphone was about to hit the market.
It really is a a terrible move but i think they had to move it for engineering reasons.
It has even been moved on the new ipod touch.
Think of all the car holders and desk docking stations that will not be able to be used when wanting to keep the headphones connected. Plus upside down in your pocket? - that really *****.
I also wonder how the new lightining connector will hold up the whole phone with accessories like speakers - it will not be able to hold it up.
    Steve come back..............

  • Question about the Headphone Jacks on the DDTS-100

This is probably a strange question, but I am goona ask anyway...
Anyone know whether the headphone jacks on the DDTS-100 gets Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Pro Logic II? I know it supports it for speakers, but I am unsure about headphones.
I am considering buying this with Medusa 5.1 Headphones, and I am trying to figure out whether the Dolby Pro Logic II would work with those.
From what I understand regular 5.1 Headphones do not use the 5 channels unless it is a 5 channel source like a DVD. What I am thinking is that the Dolby Pro Logic II on the decoder might solve that?
    Would this work?
    Thanks for your time!

Thank you both very much for your help!
Yes, I was considering pluging it in exactly as ya just mentioned connecting the headphones via the speaker ports, since the Medusa Headphones do have the same plugs as the 5.1 speakers.
Soo, that might work then? Cool! ty
Now that I look at it, the headphones instructions on the cords on the net mentions pluging it in exactly like that.
    Thanks again!,

  • I connected my iPod Touch to a stereo system phono input using a cable with stereo jacks (red and white) on one end and that plugs into the iPod's headphone jack.  The problem is that the sound is extremely muffled and bass-heavy, with little treble.

I connected my iPod Touch to a stereo system phono input using a cable with stereo jacks (red and white) on one end and that plugs into the iPod's headphone jack.  The problem is that the sound is extremely muffled and bass-heavy, with little treble.  I have to turn the bass control on the stereo receiver to pratically zero in order for the sound coming through the stereo to be acceptable.  Is there a setting on either the iPod or the stereo that I need to change in order to fix this?

The phono input is for a phonograph.  The iPod does headphne output is not that same as a phongraph output.  Does th stero have an AUX input?  That should be compatible.

I connected my brand new iPod Classic 160 GB to my brand new Sony home entertainment system through the headphone jack (to the audio line in). The volume is ridiculously low. Can somebody help me out here?

Make sure the volume on the iPod is turned up fully, since this will affect what you hear through the stereo.
Make sure Volume Limit is set to full. (From Main Menu, Settings/Volume Limit)
If you purchased your iPod inside the EU (European Union), then the maximum volume from the headphone jack is lower than elsewhere in the world. If this is the case, buy yourself a 30-pin Dock Connector to 3.5mm jack lead, such as the one linked here...
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Decrescent-Connector-Stereo-Auxiliary-iPhone/dp/B007NIE5 EE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1386012456&sr=8-1&keywords=30+pin+to+3.5mm
That connector will take a higher volume out (than the European Union's output) and that will be louder (and hopefully loud enough) through your stereo.

  • Connecting Case Microphone/Headphone Jacks To The Sound Blas

I just got a new computer with a Foxconn TLA-776 case that has microphone/headphone jacks on the front. There are 7 seperate plugs that come from these jacks. Ground, Right Out, Right Return, Left Out, Left Return, Mic Power, and Mic In. I tried plugging these into the white connector on the card with 0 pins, but they didn't fit correctly. Is there somewhere else these connectors are supposed to plug into on the card? They were originally plugged into the motherboard's onboard sound.

You didn't mention which card you have there but as an example, this is for Audigy 2 Zs. Arrangement for pins may vary between different models of cards. For example on Audigy 2 (SB0244) -->
    - Analog Ground
2 - Analog Headphone Out Left
3 - Analog Headphone Out Right
4 - Audio Backpanel Mute -- short to ground to mute the backpanel (when headphones are plugged in)
    ... (i.e. pins 3 and 4 were swapped vs. A2Zs arrangement)
    Didn't connect the mic.
Here is another link covering subject (st link seem not to work right now.

  • Question about the front headphone jack and the X-Fi SoundC

    <font face="Times New Roman" size="2">?
I just bought the ExtremeGamer Fatalty Pro series card and have a question. This is my first time building a pc.
    <font face="Times New Roman" size="2">?
I have a headphone jack on the front of my case in the bezel that plugs into my motherboard. Do I remove this connection (HDD/AC 97) from my motherboard and plug it into the SPDIF I/O connection on my X-Fi card? (hehe it fits) Or is the only way I can listen to my head phones is?on the back of the card? Meaning; now that im using the sound card and my onboard sound will be disable is headphone jack on the front no longer in use, dead?
Im in the middle of the build, and wanted to ask before I powered up and ruined something.
    Thanks in advance!

  • TS4113 Is there a terminal or other type of workaround to allow sound to come from the HDMI and headphone jack at the same time?

I have a late 2012 Mini, running 10.8.2.  I have a set of powered speakers plugged into the headphone jack.  My TV is running on a direct HDMI connection.  I can only stream sound through HDMI, or even select it as an output, if I unplug my headphone speaker plug.  Apple's knowlege base says this is the case.  I am looking for a way to have both plugged in all the time, and have the sound mirrored to both.
I use the speakers for itunes music, system sounds, skype, etc..  The HDMI sound is for steaming content to the TV.  I don't want to have to reach around behind the computer and unplug/plug each time I switch, for a multitude of reasons.  Any ideas out there?  Google wasn't getting me very far.  Maybe a terminal solution of some sort?  Thanks in advance.

it seems that m1r3k found a very good workaround, at least for the Mid 2010 Mac mini models (that I'm using right now). I don't know if it works also with more recent Mac mini models.
Re: After upgrading to lion, cant select HDMI sound setting
Open Audio MIDI Setup.app in /Applications/Utility, click the + (plus) button in the bottom left corner of the window and choose "Create Multi-Output Device". In the new device settings tick the HDMI "Use" checkbox and you're done. Simply go to the usual System Preferences Audio panel and choose the newly created device, without the need to unplug the audio cable from the back of the Mac mini. You can also name the new audio device as you want.
    NOTE:
This is only a workaround for a deliberate choice made by Apple on OS X Lion 10.7.2 and beyond:
Mac mini: About HDMI audio and headphones
Please let Apple know (here or here) how this has made things unnecessary awkward for users and needs to be fixed (these forums don't count, they are not read by Apple's employees)!

  • My headphones suddenly won't fit into the headphone jack on the 1st generation ipod touch

Has anyone had the problem where the headphones would only go about 3/4-way into the jack on the ipod touch?  I tried cleaning out the jack but there's no lint or dust that I could get out with a qtip or blowing air.  Any suggestions?

Could there be a tip from another set of headphones stuck in the headphone jack?
Have you tried another pair of headphones?
    Does the plug look OK?

  • My ipod video wont play sound through the headphone jack or the bottom connector

Hello everyone. I have an iPod Video 60GB (supports video output through the headphone jack). Which I believe was the last one before the iPod "classic".
Anyways awhile back it stopped outputting sound through the headphone jack, I assumed I had damaged the jack itself as commonly happens but it stopped outputting sound through the dock connector to my ipod speaker dock and my cars ipod connector. The clicker wont make any noise either.
When I tried to search for an answer to this problem years ago I couldnt find anything and knowing it would be out of warrenty I put it aside and forgot about it. Having searched again recently it seems as if this could be the audio processor or some component on the board coming loose? Has anyone outlined this problem with pictures and steps to repair it?
I *may* take it in and pay the $30 but I would much prefer to fix it myself. Thank you for any help with this.

Update: The model # is MA147LL. Not sure why my edit didnt take effect.

  • HT201471 Does anyone know if video comes out of the headphone jack like the Itouch does on a Ipad3?

No. Video will need to be shared via Home Sharing, Airplay or using an AV adapter.

  • Is it possible to repair the headphone jack on the Imac?

I have an older iMac.  I bought it back in 07 and the headphone jack/audio jack is starting to go out.  Is something like that fixable?

Since the jacks are generally mounted on the motherboard the only way to replace them is with the replacement of the motherboard. That will be costly.

  • Can anyone tell me if the headphone jack on the IMac is hot?

I plugged a small external speaker into the headphone jack on my IMac.  I was attempting to run the battery down to zero so I could put a good initial charge on the battery.  However, the little speaker that could has been running for over 18 hours and has missed a beat.  I have to guess it is charging from the IMac
