Headphone jack plug loose

When i plug in headphones, or a simple audio cable, sound works fine.  My concern is that whenever pressure is applied to the jack that is plugged in, the sound skips out.  There is a physical problem with the connection, that happens regardless of the standard 3.5 mm cable i use.   This only happens at certain angles of slight applied pressure.  The part is loose. The laptop is brand new, and I assume this is a physical defect.  I got the laptop quite recently and wanted to know what I need to do to get this issue fixed.  How can I find out if my laptop is currently under warranty?  I'm frustrated at this problem, especially because of how new this laptop is.  Please let me know what I need to do to get this fixed!  Is there a screw inside that needs to be tightened, or would this defect require experienced hands to fix.

Hi,
Every HP PC carries one Year Warranty period. Please contact HP Suppport to confirm your Warranty Status.
About Headphones set, connect an other HeadPhones set to the PC, and check to see if it works fine. If that also has same issue, get the PC serviced.
Thank You.

  • Headphone jack very loose

I received an iPod nano 3G for Christmas this year and the first thing I noticed about the little guy is that the headphone jack was so loose that the headphones would fall out anytime I moved the iPod. I returned the iPod and exchanged it for another and this new one is a little better but not a really tight fit. I recently tried a different pair of headphones because the Apple-included headphones don't really stay in my ears and the new headphones now have the same problem with my new iPod. So right now I'm on my second iPod and I can't understand why the headphone jack is so loose. Has anyone else had this problem?

Nevermind the headphone jack being loose. Apparently I hadn't pushed the headphone plug far enough into the jack to fully seat it. I hate it when I realize I've been a dork. Chalk this one up to being an iPod noob.

  • Gen7 nano headphone jack is loose, moving headphone plug stops music

When I move the headphone plug that is fully seated in the headphone jack on the nano it will stop playing the music like I pulled out the headphone plug. I have tried three  different apple headphones and can replicate the issue by moving the plug.  Using the same headphones in an older iPod will work fine when moving the plug.  I believe there is an issue inside the nano and would like to be able to send this in, would this be possible?

Yes. But before you do get a flashlight and see if there is dirt/debris/obstruction in the jack and clear it if necessary.

  • Headphone jack parts loose/broken

Over the past few weeks I've noticed that the inside part of my iMac's headphone jack has started to become loose, causing my headphones to not be able to be plugged up correctly without having to put a large amount of pressure on it over and over again, which may just be making the problem worse in the long run. I decided to ask here before taking it in for help so anything will be appreciated.

what did your local genius bar say when you telephoned them?

  • Headphone Jack seems loose.

I just got my Ipod nano, and maybe its just me - but the headphones dont fit very snugly into the jack. A tiny tug pulls them out, which is a pain when putting it in my pocket or etc. Is this normal, or am I just paranoid?

DOH! Didn't apply enough pressure, they snapped right in. MUCH better.

  • Is a loose headphone jack normal?

I just got a nano 3G for my birthday, but the headphone jack seems loose. The headphones seem to wiggle in the jack and easily fall out. If I'm running, it sometimes stops mid-song because of the jiggle. Is this a result of the design (jack being on a curved surface), or should I exchange it for a new one? It does this with all the headphones I've tried, and I want to know if anyone else has encountered this issue or if mine is defective......

I took the nano back to the store tonight, and the counter tech guy couldn't click it in properly either. It just wiggled in the jack, and he claimed that he'd never seen this problem before. They exchanged it for an identical new one, and now Katie is a happy girl! Thanks!

  • Headphone Jack Appears to Be Loose

It appears that my headphone jack is loose and this is causing me to hear static through my headphones whenever I play music. Should I call Apple and get this fixed? Am I still under warranty? I bought my iPod on 12/29/06. I actually still have the receipt to prove it. What should I do?

your warranty is good for a year, so you are fine. I would call Apple.

  • Headphone Jack Question

    Hi guys,
My headphone jack came loose and snapped, I have a replacement one coming but one of the two small screws that holds the headphone jack in place is missing. Does anyone know what type of screw that I need to replace and where I could find one? Would going to the Genius Bar help me? (I'm out of warranty).
    Thanks!

My ipod battery seems to short out through the headphone jack unit---if the wire/
exterior post of the headphones gets jostled while the unit is playing, it stops and then displays the screen announcing that the battery is dead and the unit needs charging. This happens even though the unit has been used only 15 minutes since the last time it was charged. I can't figure out how the battery and headphone jack would be hooked up such that the two would interact in this manner.
This has happened frequently enough and with numerous headphones (apples, sony, GE, as well as a few others). I have also heard that using non apple headphones are deleterious to the jack. Yet, apple headphones hurt my petite style earholes (ha). Is this true?s

  • Headphone Jack sticking and screen turning on

I bought a sim free palm pre (non plus!) a month or so ago from handtec UK and now the sound intermittently doesnt work. its like the headphone jack is sticking which ive seen is common but when there is no sound the screen randomly turns on like i pressed the unlock button. So i think its a dodgy connection on the slider because when i blow in the slider/headphone jack it fixes it for a bit then it comes back, which is annoying because it drains my battery quicker.
    Any ideas?
P.S i spoke to someone on palm live chat and they said to run webos doctor, (i dont think its software tho) but i thought id try it anyway so when i entered the serial number it said its invalid!!!!! Then i discovered theres another sticker underneath the sticker with the imei and serial numbers on the box which says its a movistar phone. When i tried this serial number to download webos doctor it said for movistar and i dont want to use this incase it locks the phone to that network :/
So im stuck as to whether to try and get the phone fixed or see if theres an easy fix but i just dont know what to do

I think you are correct, I would think it is the headphone jack connector. You can try some compressed air in a can in the jack hole, or maybe a little contact cleaner that has some very light lubricant in it to try and free up the micro switch in the connector. The exercise the switch by quickly inserting and removing the headphone jacks plug. I you do not have any luck wit this process you would be forced to get a repair or replacement.

  • Speakers only play when headphones are plugged in.

My internal speakers only play when the headphones are plugged in. (System preferences-Sound tells me I'm using Internal Speakers, audio port for sound input).  When I remove the headphones, the red light in the jack goes on and the computer says I'm using Digital Out ("The selected device has no output controls.)
I have read many community responses, most saying that the switch inside the headphone jack hasn't engaged, that I should fiddle with it using a paperclip/bobbypin/toothpick or just plug-in and unplug headphones repeatedly.  I have repeatedly both of these to no avail.  When fiddling, I don't really know which bump inside there is the switch, I've played with them all.
No, it's not dirty, I've blowin air, vaccuumed, dusted. Same problem.
I do use my speakers often for work and pleasure, go between different external speakers and a projector.
It seems that the computer has things backwards- headphones unplugged is pluged and vice versa.
Any suggestions or clear guidance as to what I should be fiddling with when I stick a bobby pin in there?  No need to refer me to old posts, I've read them.
    Thanks in advance,
    TheKip

Did you check the headphone port for any kind of debris or lint?
Did you already try another set of headphones? Are you suing the headphones that came with the phone?
Is the headphone jack plugged in fully into the headphone port?

  • Sound Output - Internal Speaker and Headphone Jack?

I just installed my new iMac, which replaced my Mac Mini. I hook my Mac to my stereo via the headphone jack for playing iTunes. But most of the time I don't have the stereo on.
is there a way to keep the headphone jack plugged in and still have audio come out the internal speaker? Basically send audio output to both the internal speaker and the headphone jack at the same time?
On the Mac Mini this wasn't an issue because I had a splitter that ran from the mini to my monitor speakers and to my stereo.
    Thanks!

Hi, you can get the internals to give notice of emails & actions..externals for any other sound..
Sadly your wishes on this matter will not come to fruition...L

  • Memory Leak/Track Pad/Mouse and Headphone Jack

    Help-
I have a Macbook with the intel core duo. 4 GB of RAM.
    Context.
Computer is used as a media server. Stereo is connected via an optical link from the headphone jack to an external digital to audio converter. Music is stored on external 1 TB My book. Computer is left on and idle for extended periods of time.
    Problem:
As the computer is left idle, the trackpad/mouse become increasingly unresponsive. Eventually they stop responding all together. Un-responsive means they jump and can not be maneuvered around the screen in smooth movements. System fan begins to run as this problem gets worse and system monitor indicates memory continuing to be consumed despite no applications running other than startup apps. ---*When the optical jack is removed from the headphone jack this problem disappears*--- and the system returns to normal.
Please help. I specifically purchased the macbook to serve as the platform for this media server and leaving it running for extended periods of time with no use is normal for me. Having the computer lock up because I have the optical headphone jack plugged in is unsat.
    Thanks -
    Hud

i also made a topic about this, i'm not sure if you're still watching it, but I found the solution by coincidence when playing around on youtube.
    http://jp.youtube.com/watch?v=iAQ79JT0agY&feature=related
"Discovered it was an issue with the headset jack. Something was triggering the digital audio jack inside. Simply cleaned the jacks and everything started to work again."
I didn't mention earlier that when i left my headset connected, the volume icon in the menubar would go up and down in short intervals (similar to the youtube clip) Even though I can't understand how, this must have been the issue, as I just cleaned the jack, and the problem is gone. Hope this helps you as well!

  • Will they repair the headphone jack on a 5th gen that is way past warranty

my headphone jack is loose and/or broken it only plays through the headphones albeit intermittently when pushed to one side or the other. I was wondering if this can be taken care of at a genius bar at a relatively low cost?

Don't know if they will do it there, but you can do it yourself.  Mine did exactly the same thing about a year ago, and I replaced the jack without too much trouble.  I think I found a replacement on Amazon for about $4.00 (plus shipping).  It's a little more involved than replacing the battery (while you're at it, might as well do that too), but definitely within most people's capabilities.  I think there are videos on youtube showing the procedure.
    Try these guys.

  • Will Apple replace the headphone jack?

The headphone jack on my ipod classic work, but also doesn't work. I can still play music and listen to my music fine, but the headphone jack isn't working like it did a few months ago.

  • IMac: How to use internal built-in microphone when Bose mic-headphones are plugged?

    Hi there,
I use my  Bose AE2 for Lync conferences in my iMac, but the problem is that, when the headphones are plugged I seem "obliged" to use their  made for iPhone/Mac mic.
The problem is that, however, the sound through this Bose's mic is terrible so the others in the conference can't properly hear me. So I just want to use the internal computer's mic, and it seems not possible when the headphones are plugged.
In that situation, Sys Preferences > Sound > Input, only shows "External microphone" and "Line in".
Meaning, what normally is "Internal microphone" automatically, when plugged, turns into "External microphone" and that's it. It's not possible to use the internal mic anymore if mic headphones are plugged.
Do you know any way to workaround this?
My OS is 10.6.8 (it's work's iMac), but I'm afraid this is not different in 10.9.X.
    Many thanks in advance!

Hi, I plug in the headphones set with a regular  headphones jack plug. They don't go with USB.
